Hi, I have started the Dukan Diet. Managed to get thru day 1. Anyone else trying it? What do you think ?

Dott have you been on attack all this time in effect? Would you feel a bit happier about it all if you were slightly less hardcore maybe? I get the impression that you haven't - well enjoyed isn't the right word, who enjoys a diet, but you haven't felt comfortable with doing it?

And Lottie - you have a lot to cope with - your mother has gone home, you are still in a foreign country with small children etc - I guess the excitig "tourist" phase has long since worn off and the reality of being in a diferent culture is that it can be quite hard work, not to have everything come as second nature. (Speaks from v. slight experience)

Thing is if weight loss were easy then we'd all be thin - I think Dukan is kidding us if he thinks we are all merrily eating zero fat yoghurts and no carbs for fun. Stick at it girl - the weight loss will be worth it. really it will. Try to turn to something else for comfort and not food (easy to say I know) - but like Dott says go out, or read, or watch something or buy some flowers or something. Find alternative comforts if you possibly can. Don't find your self face down in the biscuit tin Wink

Yes plateau mountain!

Thing is K if I do less hard core then I shall increase my weight. And of course I am not enjoying it but it is not so bad, but TOTM and at tat time I am DESPERATE for carbas and always feel lousy.

I like the sound of bacon and eggs and I am going to get some bacon tomorrow.

But I shall have to have a vegetable next week! Lordie knows what will happen then Grin

glitterkitty · 13/09/2010 12:38

Hi, just started Dukan today after reading this thread a couple weeks ago.

Had to get book and plan- I really want to get 3 stone off before xmas if humanly possible!

V inspired by the ladies upthread! Am currently 12st 4lbs and a horribly tight 16, trying to focus on lovely size 12 clothes from before DS that have been stored in bags for last 4 years!

Anyone else found that their overweight friends are not that supportive?

Vinbo · 13/09/2010 15:48

Hi everyone. Wow CONGRATULATIONS to you all.

After weeks of Mum trying the Dukan and shredding a stone, and now 2 aunt's on top of that I thought I had better suck it up and give the Dukan a go.

Its been a week and only have lost 3lbs :( how annoying. All that frustration and cravings for just 3lbs!!

But I'm determined to keep going. PLEASE HELP!

The worst is during work. In a tiring environment full of yummy (naughty) food, it's not the best.

I have a sweet tooth the size of Mt Everest so was wondering if anyone had ideas for Oatbran Biscuits? Or anything thats dukan friendly and ever-so-slighty resembles a bisc??

moonshine · 13/09/2010 16:46

Hello - please could you shove up on top of that plateau mountain and make room for one more? Actually did lose 0.5 lbs this week. Saturday had 2 large glasses of wine and some crisps - and boy I have to say crisps have never tasted so good!

I wasn't annoyed at my diversion as I too think that you have to perhaps account for them on any diet. Just don't think of them as falling off the wagon or 'cheating' but 'planned'.

I am still more annoyed at being such a slow loser so sorry Vinbo, can't help you except to say 3lbs is still very good and 3lbs nearer to your target than you were a week ago.

Glitterkitty - tbh I just don't talk about my dieting habits with my colleagues and friends. If they notice I keep it brief and hope the results will speak for themselves eventually. Most people do really seem to hate others losing weight - guess it makes them feel 'bad' in some way and they take it out on the loser.

Lottie, hope you are feeling better about being in a foreign land - is it for long? Think of the shock and wonderment of everyone when they see the new slimmer you come back.

Has anyone escaped the plateau? What's the secret?

Apologies for the source material but have you all seen this? Some things sound quite nice but I suspect I will still be too lazy to branch out.

dott · 13/09/2010 21:53

Hello all.
Had quite a good day survived teh posh restaurant with a caesar salad only bliips dressing and parmesan but left croutons and had no wine or pud.

I am hoping that today will get me the other side of plateau mountain. Just had quark, bran and eggs. Hoping that I amy be 74.something instead of 75...

Vinbo · 13/09/2010 23:21

Does anyone know where I can buy Wheat Bran? Wandered up and down the cereal isle about 5 times with no luck...although did buy this thing called ''Grape-nuts'' What is this??

I looked at the ingredient list and its wheat flour and wheat flakes along with a concocsion of vitamins.

Found these bad boys online...

mydukandiet.com/recipes/chocolate-oat-bran-muffins.html

Ill let you know tomorrow how they turn out.

Katisha · 13/09/2010 23:24

You need oatbran, not wheat bran. It's next to the porridge in Tesco. Also in health food shops.

Vinbo · 13/09/2010 23:44

It's in the recipe that's all. I'll try it with the oatbran. Thanks

dott · 14/09/2010 00:40

I have oat and wheat bran every day as helped with keeping my guts moving. I bought it in Holland and Barrett.

dott · 14/09/2010 00:41

The wheat bran in H and B got the oat in Waitrose.

PandaBear · 14/09/2010 08:13

HI All. Well weekend survived - but didn't manage to avoid alcohol. However, I had a lot less than I usually would have so I'm feeling ok about it. Last night I found it sooo difficult to decide what to eat - could not face just a slab of meat on my plate. In the end I made a chicken curry with fat free yoghurt and it was delicious!!! Looking forward to veggies today!! I did weigh in today and I've lost another 2.5 pounds which makes it 12 in total - so really chuffed!! Not quite reached the point I usually plateau at, but it's coming!! Keep it up ladies, you're all doing so well and giving me lots of inspiration, so thank you!!

Well I survived day 1, and lost 4lbs! I know its only water, but still nice to get some off!

Feeling really UGH today, headachey and just generally a bit rough. Heard day 2 is the worst so hoping things will improve...

Tried making that pancake thing but it went all strange like scrambled egg! Did like the porridge tho. Especially as I had it with low carb sugar free maple syrup...Grin

You lot are v inspiring, keep it up- how much have people lost so far then? Anyone else got +3 stone to lose?

Ahhh...londonlottie, jeans... I have two pairs of v expensive ones too. Cant wait to get them on again- at moment they wont go past my knees!

Katisha · 14/09/2010 14:40

Ah OK Vinbo - hadn't realised it was in a recipe.
Well sounds like people are getting back on track!
Glitterkitty it took me ages to get the galette/omelette thing right - I found making it with 2 eggs made all the difference to it holding together.
Lottie - you'll be back in those jeans - a RL friend is doing Dukan with me and she has lost 35lbs since we started. I have done about 20, but we didn't start in the same place as it were.

insertexpletive · 14/09/2010 15:51

Hi everyone - really good to read how well you are all doing.

Consolidation phase is going well, infact, I have lost another 1lb in the last two weeks Smile

I am still trying to avoid bread, but have treated myself to a round of toast and it tasted so good!

My highlight so far was going into Gap on Sunday and buying two pairs of size 12 jeans. I have never been able to do that before. Even at my slimmest before getting married, I was still in size 13 and 14 jeans.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the feeling of asking the changing room attendant if she would mind exchanging the size 14 that I had picked up for a size 12 - I could do that everyday just for the buzz Blush I clearly have a sad life.

Keep going everyone - I really like reading about your progress.

dott · 14/09/2010 16:00

Hi all I think I amy be slithering down plateau mountain, I have lost one pound and I hope tomorrow to be 74.something so not the three I hoped for but getting there.

Insertexpletive congratulations re your jeans.

Yay I am 74 (and something) kilos this am. Yippee I have been stuck on 75 for ages.

I have been doing this diet for 2.5 weeks and I have lost aruond 5kg/11 pounds. Delighted.

Well done all keep going, I am really sold on this diet.

I hope to lose another 5 to 10 kilos.

Grin
saltcod · 15/09/2010 15:45

Wow, briliant results, Dott.

I've had a terrible few days (taken out to lunch on Sunday and had chips and a dessert!), then had pizza and half a box of chocs yesterday Blush.

Firmly back on track today - oatbran & ham muffins for breakfast & chicken slices for lunch. Hopefully no more blips for a while now!

dott · 15/09/2010 17:59

Well done for getting back on track today hope it is still going well.
I fell orf today I ate a whole pack of diabetic toffees, contain polyols and reading up after the event Blush apparently not recommended for low carbers - anyone have a view on polyols?

PandaBear · 16/09/2010 07:54

Nevermind Saltcod - I did that a couple of weekends ago. Sometimes you've just got to binge - and I bet it tasted sooo good Smile.

I've reached my first stone off this morning so I'm dead chuffed.

dott · 16/09/2010 09:50

Well done PandaBear that must feel fantastic.
How are you doing today Saldcod?

I was down again today so the 73's are not withing grasp.

I had dreadful tummy pains yesterday as a result of my binge on the diabetice toffees

insertexpletive · 16/09/2010 10:11

Hi Dott

Not sure about polyols, but I buy sugar free sweets and ketchup from here and they do not seem to have done me any harm.

I would agree with Pandabear too that the odd binge is only to be expected - as long as you get straight back on the wagon Wink

I was out with friends last night and so had my 'celebration meal'. What was interesting though was that although it would have been perfectly ok for me to have pasta or pizza I decided to go for a chicken salad instead - getting them to leave out the avocado and dressing (I just asked for balsamic on the side) I had a large glass of wine, but no dessert. I think getting my head around being able to have pasta for example is going to be tricky.

But, because I knew that I could choose anything from the menu, it was easier to feel good about being sensible (if that makes any sense to you at all?)
