Anyone else doing 30 day shred?

I heard lots about it and got the dvd. I'm on day 2 and can feel my muscles aching!
I'm trying to combine it with a diet too.

Is anyone else doing this/thinking of doing it?

Just got mine over with, really struggled today. Had to pop some Ibroprufen before I started.

Glad I did it though.

ShinyAndNew · 14/04/2010 14:56

Is it any good? I bought it, but the next day badly sprained ankle. By the time that had healed I had done something to my shoulder. Now that's getting better I have sprained my ankle again

Feenie · 14/04/2010 16:38

I did my 2nd day today, with a day off in between

I could do the push ups (easy version, natch) on Monday, but it hurt too much today!

Bought some proper weights, so hoping that will also make a difference!

PurpleFrog · 14/04/2010 16:52

Thanks Joby1970 - I guess I could manage to clear enough space to do push ups and star jumps I'll have another look at the DVD online.

twinkle183 · 14/04/2010 19:01

Am going to take the plung today and get it over and done with and try and managed it!! Am nervous though this Jillian looks like a real bull buster... but will recit to myself 'No pain, No gain' over and over again while it hurts!!!

Start Zumba on Friday as well just to break up the exercise aswell so will let you know how that goes...

As motivation go myself three exercise outfits for £23. What a baragin!

Squidmission · 14/04/2010 21:06

I love the idea of having a spreadsheet but I have an even better tool - an app on my iphone which plots my weight its accessible all the time and a constant reminder.

Twinkle what a bargain indeed! I can't believe you got 3 oufits for that much.

Shineyandnew how annoying. Are you running or something to gain all these injuries?

Mil dropped round some samosas and other tasty but very unhealthy spicy pastry things. They were delicious but argh! I really shouldn't have eaten them.

robino · 14/04/2010 21:37

Squidmission - don't feel guilty about the pastries. I have forgone the 30DS workout this evening AND had a couple of sneaky pints. It's all OH's fault; he doesn't even know I have the 30DS but he did drag me out to the pub (and organised a sitter for a couple of hours)

justaminute · 14/04/2010 21:54

Yippee! I've just done Day 7. I even found it a little bit easier tonight, still bloody hard work and I still want to give up after 15 mins but I made it.

I even tried to do a proper press up but I soon reverted back to the easy version.

Feeling very smug,I've found an exercise regime that suits me, now need to sort out the eating....

Joby1970 · 15/04/2010 08:22

well done justaminute. I love the favt its all over quickly & just when you start to think level one is easy (ish) then off you go to level 2.

robino · 15/04/2010 08:38

Well done justaminute.

Have just done day 3 (it's taken me 4 days to do though!).

I love that it's just about short enough to get done even with a 3 yr old and a 1yr old in the same room. And I don't know how Jillian does it on a DVD but she makes me complete it - she scares me

justaminute · 15/04/2010 10:38

Thanks Joby and Robino. I had great intentions to get up early and do it before work after being on such a high last night but my bed was too comfy. Let's hope I've got the enthusiasm later.

Jillian's no nonsense approach and the length of the DVD is just what I need. I have a couple of Davina's but I lose motivation / effort after 15-20 mins.

Stupidly though I stepped on the scales this am and I've put on another pound...ggrrrr. Perhaps my fat is turning to muscle - they say it weighs more don't they?

GoldenSnitch · 15/04/2010 12:19

Missed doing anything yesterday but did manage to get myself all puffed for a reasonable length of time while pushing the double buggy through the woods so I did get my heart going for 20 minutes or so...

Had a really busy day though and no time to fit anything in.

Hoping to manage a DVD and a run today

Joby1970 · 15/04/2010 12:23

Muscle does weigh more & take up less room lol.

Squidmission · 15/04/2010 13:20

Well done justaminute and everyone else managing to do it.

I did day 4 this morning.
I really need to sort out my diet. I was losing weight really well then a few things happened and I just can't seem to get back on track.

ClaireDeLoon · 15/04/2010 13:27

justaminute I set the alarm early to do it before work and just rolled over and went back to sleep I'm off out tonight so will skip a day

So on the DVD she says you will find it easier from day 5/6/7 anyone got that far and can confirm it?

And I really need to know - can you honestly all do the push ups? I can't at all

Squidmission · 15/04/2010 13:45

Claire, I really struggle with the push ups too (and the first aerobic bit is a killer!)
Try this

When are we supposed to go on to Workout 2, etc? I forgot to listen to the bit at the beginning

LostGirl · 15/04/2010 14:20

I think the original idea was to do 10 days on each level, but basically move on to the next level when you think you need more of a challenge, or when you get bored of level 1!

With the push ups, can I suggest you try doing them on an incline, with your hands on the back of the sofa or similar, then as you get stronger you can decrease the incline, using a chair, or low table, and then eventually you will be able to do full push ups on the floor. This way you can gradually increase the amount of weight you are putting on your upper body.

justaminute With regards to muscle weighing more than fat this is true but it takes a looooong time for actual measurable muscle growth to occur. However, if you have had a challenging workout and are feeling sore it could well be that your muscles are retaining more fluid (temporarily) which can make them look larger and could also be responsible for the slight increase in numbers on the scale. Make sure you are drinking enough water on a daily basis, but especially on the days you are exercising.

Feenie · 15/04/2010 14:25

Thanks, Lostgirl.

cyteen · 15/04/2010 15:15

twinkle I do Zumba too, it's really fun

Ordered myself a copy of this today, so expect me to be sweating and cursing by next week,

justaminute · 15/04/2010 15:46

I do the "easy" push ups. Don't think I've done more than one proper push up in my life!

I am hoping the weight gain is water retention as I've been fairly good foodwise this week (apart from an incident with a jar of Green & Black's choclate spread )

I agree that the workout gets slightly easier after 5-7 days. I started to wonder about when to progress to Level 2 but I can't bear the thought of the pain of Day 1 again!

poshtottie · 15/04/2010 15:59

I'll be doing day four today. Going for a relaxing facial first.

Not sore at all today.

Push ups are very difficult. It was only when I did a lot of astanga yoga did I get the strength to do full ones.

Joby1970 · 15/04/2010 16:07

I didn't get the day one paid when I moved up to level 2 or 3 - thankfully

mrswill · 15/04/2010 19:36

hello all!

After 3 months of dieting and exercising religiously, Ive fallen off the wagon for 2 weeks, but now Im firmly back on it!! I just finished day 1 of the shred, I did find it tough, and am not too keen on those sideways lunges, dear god. Think I'll be teaming it with a bit of Davina on days Im feeling extra perky, which is not very often! roll on day 30.

GoldenSnitch · 15/04/2010 20:02

Managed to finally break the 1k continuous run mark tonight (I've been running/walking/running/walking etc to get my stamina up) I found pre-preg that once I'd broken 1k, I could increase the distance quite easily so I'm hoping that happens again.

30 day shred arrived too and I've worked out that if I start tomorrow, I've got 30 weekdays (don't do weekends except running) until my birthday which seems like a good target and motivator.

Going to try to be skinnier for my birthday - fingers crossed.
