Hello Can i join please?
Just decided to start SW as need to lose a stone (maybe bit more) am starting the Easy diet - but struggling a bit calculating my syns.

I need some exciting recipes to inspire me - anyone recommend a good cook book?

Also snacks - Im only on day 2 and already fed up of fruit - any suggestions

snottymcgrotty · 20/02/2009 21:49

Hi Racmac, I make a batch of potato wedge chips to snack on. Cook them then just reheat in oven whe I fancy some (free on green day or extra easy day). Have also made houmous before as well (chick peas, lemon juice, red chilli, garlic - all blended with some olive oil), this is free BUT uses HE b for the olive oil.
Sure someone else will have other ideas (soup has been discussed recently, so might be worth thinking about). Good luck !

Would have said I'd race you to target, but too busy scoffing the rest of my thorntons chocs !! Once they're gone they're gone

keepingitRia · 20/02/2009 22:58

hi racmac

fruit salad is good - big chunky bits of pineapple. kiwi, orange, apple and pear, and some grapes (my favourites) with 2 tablespoons of squirty cream (1/2 syn?) makes it a bit more special. I cover it in soda water and add a bit of sweetner.

I find green days easier for snacks. Rice salad and pasta etc. SW chips with brown sauce is a favourite too.

You can do bizarre things with chick peas and make "peanuts".

At times I find all the cooking and food preparation high maintenance and tedious (can you tell I'm having a bad day) but other days I love it and feel really good for cooking such healthy stuff.

Good luck!

dearprudence · 20/02/2009 23:39

Well done snotty. I just love those stickers.

You OK Ria?

dearprudence · 20/02/2009 23:42

Hi racmac! If you're on Extra Easy you can snack on almost anything - ham, chickpeas, bits of leftover dinners, mullerlight yoghurts, to name a few.

snottymcgrotty · 21/02/2009 01:00

Okay, thorntons all gone .
New day tomorrow, back on track ! Need to reach target (1 stone 1 lb to go) before I go back to work (May)as want to look good in my uniform (well, as good as possible, it's really NOT my colour !).
Superspeed foods here I come !!!!!!!

keepingitRia · 21/02/2009 22:06

It may not be going well, but I'm not giving up on the thread

well done to all of you with willpower.

Dnephews birthday tea today. And Dsis forced me to eat Thorntons toffee (so she didn't have to admit to eating it all!)

Things a bit here as DH has lost his job in very interesting circumstances. AM waiting to see what after the weekend brings. There may be nothing in it, but I am suspicious... (not of DH, but of his colleagues and a few things that have been going on). He has found a bit of P/T work to tide him over until something else comes along, but we will be on short rations for a bit I think

Pasta bakes and potatoes though, might have to go back on to green days!

Once the kids are back at school on Monday, I should get my head sorted again.

dearprudence · 21/02/2009 23:55

Oh Ria, that's horrible. My DH lost his job too in November. Although we'd been half expecting it, it was still a shock. Luckily he has now found another one. Less money but he likes it much better, so a good result. Glad to hear you're sticking with us on the SW thread.

jenk1 · 22/02/2009 13:08

Ria we are in the same situation,DH lost his job just after xmas, his firm laid a 1000 workers off.

He has been to the job centre and online and looking through newspapers but there just doesnt seem to be much out there, but we are not getting depressed by it and just taking one day as it comes, i hope your DH finds something soon.

i have a quick question to ask.

yesterday i didnt have my HE B choice which is 2x slices of warburtons small bread,so can i use them today or if you dont use the HE on one day thats it.

TIA

snottymcgrotty · 22/02/2009 16:33

Sorry to hear of all the job problems, I think every day how lucky I am to be so secure in my line of work. Good luck to all finding something else suitable.

jenk1 sorry to be bearer of bad news, but you can't "carry over" HE's like you can syns. Wish you could as would have HUGE meal of cheese on toast with pickled onions !!!

Been at my sisters this wkend (she's away so helping my parents look after my DNephew), so haven't had the same raiding temptations - although my dad did bring out the cadbury's last night (then said I was only allowed 2 pieces !!!) Torture !

MmeJaffaB · 23/02/2009 21:42

about the jobs ladies, it's scary times out there. I hope things turn round for you all fast.

My dance demonstration was amazing on Sat night, had SUCH a fun time. We started dancing at 8.30pm with our demos, then got the public up to join in, and finished at 2.30am. Got home at 3.45am, felt like a teenager again.

Lost 3lb this week 1 stone down now!

Ria, stick around.

Jaffa - sounds like you had a great time, and it clearly did the trick with your weight-loss!

I'm having a good week, so I hope to get rid of some of my gain from last week.

ProfYaffle · 24/02/2009 14:07

Hi,

Can I join please? I've been doing sw by post for 4 days, enjoying it so far. Can't quite believe how much I can eat, I'm sure I won't have lost anything by the end of the week!

MmeJaffaB · 24/02/2009 15:09

Oh yes you will prof! If you stick to it, you'll lose. Welcome.

Hi
I`ve been doing SW for a week now just online and at home .

I`ve also started the couch potato to 5k in 8 weeks running programme .

Am enjoying the food but we have no cooker at rthe moment so thats a bit difficult. Waiting for gas man to come a connect it .

Can anyone please tell me what Snack a jacks count as ?
I keep munching the caramel ones with my cuppa and think i`m , eating too many !

ProfYaffle · 24/02/2009 20:44

Just checked, the large ones are 2.5, all varieties except chocolate which are 3.

The bags are 6 syns which seems like a huge amount for what they are! Think I'd rather go for wheat crunchies at 7.

katylou25 · 25/02/2009 17:22

or golden wonder light crisps which are only 4.5!

keepingitRia · 25/02/2009 19:16

french fries are only 4.5 too.

A silly question. Am trying to remotivate - with the EE plan so I have to stick to it all week, or can I have a day thrown in with green days if I like (I should know this)

jenk1 · 25/02/2009 19:21

WI Tonight, a pound off so thats 4 in 2 weeks, i am pleased but i was hoping for more, the leader said to eat more superfree and superspeed foods and i havent been eating a lot of those really,so ill try that this week.

Ria yes you can mix them around, the leader actually said tonight you can have red, green, and easy express during the week, you dont have to just stick to one.

keepingitRia · 25/02/2009 19:22

also, I'm sorry for my self-indulgent self pity the other day. I know there are people in the same position, even worse positions with jobs and stuff, so I'm sorry if I was a bit insensitive. Good luck to your DH too jenk.

I am aiming to be back on plan tomorrow, or Friday at the latest (depending on our plans tomorrow, which is a cop-out I know, but I think we need a bit of a boost, and if that amounts to a walk on the beach and a bacon sarnie, or our favourite tea of pork steaks, chips and onion rings, then so be it)

jenk1 · 25/02/2009 20:50

hiya ria, i dont think you came across as insensitive at all,and if i were you id walk on the beach and want a bacon sarnie or pork steak and chips as well!!!

this weeks password is CHERRY

keepingitRia · 25/02/2009 20:56

thanks Jenk. well done on the loss.

well, I was going to have a go on the treadmill, but I can't undo the screw thingy holding it folded. So I'm having a beer

dearprudence · 25/02/2009 22:29

Ria! Not insensitive at all. We were just sharing to show that we understand and sympathise! Did you find out anything about the suspicious circumstances? (Don't share if it's private, of course).

Well done on the loss jenk. Welcome Prof I lost 1 1/2 this week. Am trying to forget that this is less than half my gain from last week.

Jogging in the morning...

ProfYaffle · 26/02/2009 09:57

Thanks Prudence, lol @ Ria and the beer. I had intended to go jogging this morning while dd2 is at nursery but seeing as she kept me up til 2am this morning I'm lazing on the sofa watching the Wright Stuff instead

jenk1 · 26/02/2009 12:52
