These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost just around 45lbs. After having been on the wrong side of 12st The last time I weighed I was hovering around 9st 2lbs. I would like to get back into the 8’s 🤞

HappyScale (the free version). It’s good, would recommend. I do weigh daily though, it seems to suit that.

@TheWayTheLightFallswell done 🎉. Fantastic achievement

devoncreamtea · 03/05/2025 21:08

Well done! 💪🏽

You sound like me @SnowFrogJelly
Im under tall not over weight 😵‍💫
I think it’s a tough gig to be short, I always think even those with a couple more inches height get more wriggle room! I used to be naturally slim, but now in my forties and I just look at food and jumps on my tummy. Annoying! I know it does work for me if a low carb/keto but that involves such will power and mental strength at the start, and I just don’t feel I’ve got the reserves at this moment of life!

LBB2020 · 03/05/2025 21:37

Thank you for the new thread @TheRealHousewife and hope you are doing well.
I fell off the April thread, after the Easter holidays I really struggled to get back into routine. May has completely snuck up on me but I’m determined to get back into it this month (so far this year I’ve lost and gained the same few lbs which is so frustrating as it feels like I’ve been doing the same for the past few years!).
Have been out for the day with DH today so food not great but have done just under 19,000 steps! Going to get back into C25K tomorrow and healthier food choices from tomorrow!
Happy bank holiday weekend everyone x

Fellsbells · 04/05/2025 07:23

Happy Sunday.

I went for a run first thing. I did have quite a lot of carbs yesterday so things have balanced out.

Vacuummyblub · 04/05/2025 08:42

Hello everyone. Hope you've had a nice start to a Sunday.
I was reading the thread last night and I've decided to join today.
This is me
Height 5 foot 2
CW 75kg
GW 64kg
I was hoping to get to my GW by my 40th in October but I fear I've left things too late.
Right now I need to loose a few inches to at least be able to squeeze in to my summer clothes.

My biggest barrier to weight loss at the moment would be my 2 kids. One is 3 and we often struggle to get him into bed until 9:30/10 leaving no time for exercise. I then doom scroll on my phone until second baby (6m)wakes for a breast feed about midnight.
Then I'm up feeding a couple of times in the night.
Then I'm too tired to get up early to exercise and I eat my way through the day for energy.

So my number 1 rule is going to be bed at 10 and Reading (not on phone) until 10:15 latest. I've done it a couple of nights already and managed to get up for a run this morning!

Looking forward to being part of the community to make ourselves that bit fitter and healthier.

PatienceOfEngels · 04/05/2025 09:18

Morning all!

Went for a food shop yesterday and over half the contents of my trolley were fruit and vegetables so feeling worthy.

Did a stir fry last night with chicken, carrots, spring onions, peppers, chilli, garlic, mushrooms, beansprouts and noodles.

Tonight it'll be wraps with pesto chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber or prawn/veg/egg fried rice.

Boiled egg, rye toast with butter, and coffee for breakfast.
Lunch will be something with vegetables (maybe an omelette with peppers and mushrooms).
Have some strawberries to enjoy for a snack later.

Been a very lazy morning, still on the sofa in my PJs, but delayed my breakfast and devices until now. Plan for today is to stay off devices, get some steps in and tidy up all the post holiday detritus around the house, maybe some gardening, do something creative. DH back to work tomorrow but I'm not back till Wednesday.

Will weigh in tomorrow morning. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

NerrSnerr · 04/05/2025 09:31

Hi all. Have had a really good week eating. Have restarted on low carb and still in the initial low carb weight loss. I have some trousers that just don’t fit and I’m hoping to fit into them soon. I am short so once I am losing weight I go through the sizes pretty quickly so hoping that every heatwave we get over the summer I’ll be fitting into dresses and shorts I haven’t fitted into for a while.

Really motivated to do it this time.

AnonymousMum37 · 04/05/2025 11:19

Would anyone fancy joining me in cutting down/out alcohol?

I got down to 155.6lb this week but back up to 157 this morning thanks to a few glasses of wine last night. I realised I didn't even enjoy it past the first glass, but once I've had one I want another.

My plan now is to quit drinking any booze at home. I have a couple of nights out planned that I'll still drink for but having wine with dinner at home is just a waste of calories and makes me less likely to exercise and eat well the next day!

Anyone else in? I could do with the moral support 😁

Vacuummyblub · 04/05/2025 12:17

@ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself
I am so with you on the love of butter (and honey on toast) . I'm just weaning my youngest so switched to having unsalted butter in the house instead of the delicious irresistible salty kind. It's much easier to not put lashings of it on toast/ bread / everything. Just a thought.
@AnonymousMum37 I'll join you on cutting alcohol. Basically hoping to do the same no alcohol at home. Sounds like your social life is more active than mine though! I'll be on holiday in a couple of weeks and don't want to abstain completely but ud like to keep it to every other night then. My problem is that I tend to drink half a bathtub worth of diet coke in an effort to distract myself from wine 😩.

socks1107 · 04/05/2025 12:21

@AnonymousMum37 I have cut down this year, I was drinking Thursday to Sunday.
Since Xmas I cut out Thursdays and Sundays and reduced medium wines to smalls. Recently my weight loss has stalled so this week I ditched the wine and switched to gin and slim line tonic or sugar free lemonade. Never really had gin before! Had just as good a time last night with over half the calories saved and I’m down 2lb this morning! Plus it’s less units.
happy to join you and continue to reduce my alcohol

LegoTherapy · 04/05/2025 12:34

May the fourth be with you all! I’m watching star wars for the first time. It’s not really my thing.
well done on the achievements and welcome to the new losers!
I’m down to 57.8kg this morning after a fairly good week. I’ve walked 63 miles this week so I’m happy with that.
Dd and I made scones last night and I did a very cheesy pasta bake for dinner. I’m keeping it light today and next week. We have an event next Sunday and are away for the weekend so I want my stomach to be less bloated. I find being away really tough on my digestive system and finding food to eat that’s not pizza and chips. I won’t have access to a fridge so we will be eating out or picnicking via M&S.

CanIdoit2025 · 04/05/2025 13:23

@NerrSnerr are you following a specific low carb diet, or count calories? Interested as I love carbs and know I overeat pasta, bread etc

PatienceOfEngels · 05/05/2025 07:10

Weighing in for May at 74.8kg. That means I put on 1.5kg over April and our holiday last week. Expect it to come down a bit this week as my body recovers from the UK (we ate supermarket pizza twice, had 2 barbecues so lots of bread, mostly white).

So:

SW 77kg (Oct 2022 when I started on here - was 79kg August 2022)
CW 74.8kg
GW1 68kg (Healthy BMI)
GW2 63.5kg (10 stone! Not sure how realistic this is).

So, for this year I have almost 7kg to lose. I almost did it last year - got down to 69kg in January 2024.

Yesterday ended up with prawn/egg fried rice for dinner, and banana pancakes with strawberries for lunch. Grapes for snack. Did eat some salted pistachios and cheese in the evening, and a few chunks of Toblerone. Must knock it on the head during this week.
Got in a walk before dinner - took the scenic route to the supermarket - and an hour gardening. That with an hour of chores and up and down the stairs meant I got my steps in.

I did a far bit of reading during the day but did end up on devices before bed (because the film DH chose was so dire). Didn't get to anything creative or journal so that's on the list for today.

Semi-bank holiday here as it's Liberation day (WW2) but they only close state/public companies once every 5 years (the schools are off, but DH is not).

Today:
-boiled egg, 1x rye toast with butter, 2x coffee with milk
-leftover prawn and egg fried rice
-chicken pesto wraps with salad (cherry tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, cucumber, spring onions); with strawberries for dessert.

Have a lemon drizzle cake in the oven (meeting a friend with kids for a walk in the woods in a few hours and can't go empty handed!!!).

Would like to get some chores done today in the house or garden but also aware that I have marking sitting to be done, and I want to extend the holiday feeling just a bit longer! Kids loved going to the theatre last week so may coerce them into a NT at home (I think Life if Pi has just been added and think they'd love it). May take a little bribery though.

@LegoTherapy how did you get on with Star Wars? I don't think they have aged very well - our kids are just not interested! But I do like some of the new stuff. Andor and Rogue One my favourites so far. Got a bit fed up with the Daisy Ridley/Adam Driver Plot line in the final parts of the series.

Good luck @AnonymousMum37 and everyone else committing to ditching alcohol. I stopped drinking in January 2023 and don't miss it at all. Occasionally I'll have an non-alcoholic beer in the summer and if out (which happens very rarely) a non-alcoholic gin with some nice tonic/cucumber or lemon and lots of ice.
The only thing I do miss is a NZ sauvignon Blanc. Non-alcoholic wines are pretty much just sugar.

I wish I could switch off my cravings for savoury snack foods as easily and I have alcohol. Crisps, nuts, cheese, crackers, fried snacks......I know I feel rubbish in the long term (and even the short term). never really had sugar cravings but salt?!

Anyway, enjoy your bank holiday if you're in the UK. Beautiful sunshine here!

I use my fitness pal and try to keep under 30g of carbs. That also counts calories but but don’t pay much attention to that. If my carbs are low I tend to only be eating about 1200 calories anyway.

WoodlandDragon · 05/05/2025 09:38

Hello everyone!

I was on these threads up to March I think (have slightly changed my user name), then a whole heaping pile of life stuff derailed me a bit. Hoping to pick up now where I left off as these threads are so lovely and supportive, and really helped me achieve actual weight loss for the first time since I had my kids (thank you @TheRealHousewife !)

I'm calorie counting, and have established some good options to get to 1800 calories per day which is right for me to lose at about 0.5kg per week. Problem over the last few weeks has been anxiety/stress leading to excessive snacking and a couple of occurrences of binge eating, which I hoped I'd left in the past. So for me resetting this week means a plan to manage the time when I go off the rails - I have some babybel lights and apples to reach for a low calorie filling snack at home if needed, and I have bought chewing gum for me journey home from work and any other occasion where I have to pass lots of very tempting food outlets - I never want to eat when my mouth is minty after toothbrushing so I'm hoping this works! I've got meals sorted for the week and will keep to the carb portion sizes that work for my calories. I've been running (have a 10km race in about a month) so will keep that up, and walking.

Right, plan made! Stats:
SW 94kg (1st Jan 2025)
CW 88.9kg (BMI 28.1)
GW 75kg (BMI 23.7)

So I think I'm now about 1kg up on the lowest I got to earlier this year, so I'm hoping I've stopped the backsliding before it's too late (I think I've been a bit higher than this but have been dodging the scale). When I got below 90kg I remember saying I never want to see a 90 again. So I'm sticking to that and now I'm going to work towards an interim goal for summer holiday in late July of being consistently below 85kg (and hopefully staying there after some time in France...) I'm going slow and steady with this in the hope that it's then sustainable and would be entirely happy to get to my goal weight around Christmas.

Ok, enough of a long post to get started! Going to go read everyone else's posts now! Good luck for May everyone!

Peachypips78 · 05/05/2025 09:48

Hi - could I please join you?

5 ft 3
14 st 9 as of this morning

I started last week. For me it works to eat a similar thing every day so I don’t have to calorie count.
I have:
1 x nut butter porridge pot for breakfast
A sandwich of any description for lunch - generally egg or cheese salad
A healthy meal with lots of veg for dinner.

I am very active - dog walking twice a day and in the garden digging all day on the four days I don’t work. Work days are more of a challenge as it’s sedentary but I walk to the station then the other end to work.

I might weigh at random times but will try and post every week!

socks1107 · 05/05/2025 10:45

My moving overage is on the down again and it’s increased to an overall 1lb lossa week from a 0.5lb gain last week. Hooray for increasing calories but also watching all macros. Super pleased. I could make my first target by my July holiday now and then focus on my second target for my September break. Fingers crossed. Away now today and tmrw but with lots of walking and will be mindful what I choose to eat.
Ive officially lost 23lbs now and when I measured this week a total of 66.4cm across my body

LegoTherapy · 05/05/2025 10:46

Morning all and welcome @Peachypips78! The weekend has seen plenty of chocolate and very little activity. I’m ok with that. It’s great to see the scales shifting down and my happy scale app back on green. I’m keeping meals light with either red pepper hummus and breadsticks or yogurt and fruit compot. Very little UPF because it makes me feel awful and bloated. Next weekend will be hard on my digestive system so I might not eat much at all. The plan is Pizza Hut for dinner one night and premier inn pancakes breakfasts. It’s going be an emotional trip and I’m feeling odd about it even though we are going for something really great. Ah well, I’ll try extra hard this week to get down to 57kg by Saturday.
Enough of the misery, onwards! Have a great day everyone!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/05/2025 12:54

Morning all. Going to try and Sat posting my menu and activity to help with my accountability!

Today…

B - boiled egg, slight of seeded toast with butter, half a mug of tea
L - homemade sweet potato and tomato soup, couple of falafel, humous, apple, quavers
D - roast halloumi, broccoli, potato dish

that is only about 1,000 calories, so I will probably have some kind of snack later. Planning to do a strength class after work.
