Are you up for getting Summer Ready? There’s still time to make a change, to make a difference and feel confident in your body in time for the summer sun ☀️

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost just around 45lbs. After having been on the wrong side of 12st The last time I weighed I was hovering around 9st 2lbs. I would like to get back into the 8’s 🤞

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

New members … Give it a go; it’s never too late! Come summer you’ll be pleased you did 😊

Beloved long timers it would be great for you to keep going❤️

PS - Grok 3 created my picture … not the best but perhaps I’m instructing him wrong. I still thanked him 😅

@LightGirl I use Myfitnesspal, it's free, but you can pay for premium perks (I don't). Can't help on early rising, but I drink coffee on empty stomach, never had any issues, at least so far 🤞

TealSloth · 09/05/2025 11:25

Hello everyone. Having a bit of a down day today. Weight is going up and down on the scale not very pleased. Would like to see some positive results. I am traying my best with the meals ect. Need to stay on top of my workout and calorie count which I am struggle with.

Vacuummyblub · 09/05/2025 11:34

Hi. Doing OK so far today. Breakfast and lunch how I want them to be. Dinner will be chicken, pearl barley and beans. Need to make sure I don't snack/pick.
@LightGirl agree 5 seems quite early to stop for a long term habit. I can be quite all or nothing so I'd end up breaking that and then binging because I'd broken the rule now anyway so fuck it! . Maybe something like 'If I choose to eat after 5 it will be yoghurt & fruit or avocado salad.'
I'm sorry it won't let me delete the tag below. But I hope you are having a good day. 🙈

Hi everyone, is it too late to join?
I literally signed up on MumsNet for this particular thread. I am not even sure how this works, but I need some accountability in my weight loss journey. I am desperate! And I need to lose A LOT (we are talking 20+ kg).
Tried to do it alone and end up either being too restrictive or binging, and I am so ever tired of the endless repetition of the cycle.
Anyone?

So yeah. I just need someone on the same journey to hold me accountable.
Please let me know how this works! I am so excited to join!

Have you tried the "chub club" calorie counting on Facebook? They work out a calorie deficit for you that's sustainable long term. Mine is 2001 and I find that much easier to stick to than my fitness pal who told me 1570. I usually fall somewhere in between the two!
It's a bit slower eating more but I feel like it's worth it if I stick to it long term (coming on for 5 months now), whereas when I've restricted more harshly I've lost weight but then regained it quickly when I go back to "normal".

HollyGolightly4 · 09/05/2025 17:59

I completely recommend nutracheck - it's much more UK based than my fitness pal. The premium is £30 a year. It also has UK eating out on it, so if you end up nipping into Greggs, or Pret you can make sure you include it in your count.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 09/05/2025 19:05

Just cannot bloody stop eating today! No idea what's triggered it but I'm having what I fancy (crisps, chocolate) and will try and get my act together again tomorrow I hope. I wonder if I have eaten less protein than usual, or maybe a cold coming on (thanks, children). No idea.

WearyAuldWumman · 09/05/2025 23:20

Currently 15 st 2lbs. (Gulp!)

5ft9.

Had a gym session Tuesday. Wed - 5 lengths of the pool in the morning; gym/exercise class in the evening. Today - gym/ex class in the morning.

Trying not to overeat. Cutting back on oatmilk in my coffees.

Telling myself to concentrate on building muscle and the rest will follow.

LightGirl · 10/05/2025 05:07

@TheWayTheLightFalls
I think it depends on your cycle! Sometimes (during ovulation or right before a period), it feels like I am possessed by some sort of chocolate-eating monster. It's so hard to control myself during this time! Stay strong, this phase will be over in a few days.
I usually try to trick myself during these days with a cold shower, a walk, a movie, or an outing - just about anything to keep me busy and my mind off treats!

QueenMabby · 10/05/2025 06:06

I was very proud yesterday that I managed to fit pizza and a glass of wine into my calorie allowance! I made the pizza on a wrap rather than my usual homemade pizza dough but it was surprisingly good. Reduced the cheese right down to leave enough calories for a small glass of rose. Bliss! I also did a walk with a friend and a gym session.

I’m going to really try hard this weekend to stick to my calorie goal. I struggle massively at the weekends and it normally all goes to pot and cancels out all my hard work in the week. We have nothing on this weekend but I’m going to try and keep busy to avoid random eating.

Vacuummyblub · 10/05/2025 06:56

Morning everyone.
Beautiful day here.
I'm up and dressed in my running things. Need to find a 20 min (yes that's all for now!) time slot in the morning madness to get out for a quick jog.
Tired this morning. Baby woke just as I was nodding off to sleep and then. A few wakes in the night so I don't feel like I really settled. Then 3 year old's nappy leaked this morning so no lazy morning.
Gonna be mushroom omelette for breakfast, lunch can be a salad and dinner is a tofu pepper pasta. Need to remember some car scat lunch or I'll get so hungry and binge mid afternoon.

LegoTherapy · 10/05/2025 07:45

Morning all! I’m down a kilo since Wednesday! 57.6kg this morning and very happy about it. 2.6kg to go to get to my goal of 55kg. We are off on a trip this weekend and will be eating totally off plan until tuesdsy morning. I also won’t be walking as much so my good work might be undone. Hopefully it will be temporary but there’ll be Wetherspoons pizza and Starbucks and hotel breakfasts of pancakes and juice.
I’m gutted that a tshirt I had altered especially for this trip has shrunk in the wash and faded slightly too. It does great things for my boobs but not so much the roll of flab above my navel 😩 Dd says it looks fine but I feel humungous. It’s ok unless I’m sat down. My abs will be getting a good workout by me sucking my belly in all day!
I hope you all have a great weekend. I’ll be weighing on Tuesday morning to prepare myself for the WOW which will be wow, why did I eat so much on our trip 😩

LightGirl · 10/05/2025 07:58

Thank you everyone. You guys are so encouraging and inspiring to watch!
We are celebrating Mother's day here this weekend. Anyone? I've been invited to some sort of Moms party that involves lots of homemade food. I set my mind on sticking to my resolutions hence I am eating a salad as I type so that I will be full enough not to endulge later on.

How do you guys handle parties/get-togethers? Should I say I am on a diet and won't eat their delicious food ? Or should I eat a bit? (having problems with self control all right) I am tired of all the excuses I used to make "just this once" and really want to go different way tonight included.

LegoTherapy · 10/05/2025 08:13

@LightGirlI personally don’t tend to eat at all at get together but that’s due to being weird about food and doubting other people’s hygiene. I’ve not found that anyone notices I don’t eat. Last time I went anywhere I went to M&S and bought breadsticks and red pepper hummus and ate it away from everyone else handily helped by sitting with my child on the play equipment. I am very weird around food though so I appreciate most people would just eat the food. For a one off occasion with food I trust I would throw all caution to the wind and just enjoy it. It’s one day and isn’t going to undo your hard work. Life’s too short not to enjoy good food on special occasions so go and enjoy it and have a great time 😃

error in previous weigh in- 57.35kg today so I’m very happy with that. If I can get to 55kg by my birthday I’ll be happy.

Honestly I would eat and enjoy. Perhaps skip the meal before or after as damage limitation, maybe a little less alcohol or bread/carbs. Diets need to work long term and depriving yourself at a big fun event will sour your mood and affect your resolve ime.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 10/05/2025 08:32

@LightGirl I am ovulating I think, and I certainly have a cold. Chalking it up to one or the other. Ate breakfast (eggs) rather than try to push through to lunchtime on willpower, and hoping today is easier. I’m normally fairly restrained so one “fuck it” day felt ok. As long as it stays one day!

WearyAuldWumman · 10/05/2025 11:12

15st this morning. I'm guessing that some of the weight has been fluid retention - my HRT was changed over two weeks ago. (Now Mirena plus Elleste Solo. I'm 65, but there's severe osteoporosis in the family.)

TMI - it took about two weeks before spotting stopped. I wasn't able to lose weight at all during that time - partly because I felt so awful. My knee issues were also a problem.

Now back to training properly and I'm concentrating on eating more protein, more salad and not so many carbs.

I'm not sure what my goal weight is. In my 20s, I looked good at 10st. In my 40s I looked good at 5ft 9 and 11st, but, so long as I also trained, 12st 2 was a good weight for me - more muscle, I guess.

At the moment, I aim to get below 14 stone and then to take it from there.

Peachypips78 · 10/05/2025 11:33

Morning all. I am feeling very pleased with myself as I just completed my first park run. I haven’t run in five years! I managed to run about half of it and had the dog which was a challenge.

it’s really helpful to read all your posts and check in.

Fellsbells · 10/05/2025 15:44

Despite going out last night I haven’t gained today. My weight loss is so slow, but I’m being consistent so hoping there will be a whoosh soon.

Sighthoundsforever · 10/05/2025 16:01

Got a boost yesterday from my vet of all people yesterday. I brought my 2 dogs for vaccinations and she said “it’s so funny how so many people look like their dogs. You’re both tall and slim”. My 2 dogs are whippets. Well…… it absolutely made my day. I’ve lost 2 stone and am now maintaining. Funny how it gave me such a boost. I’ve had so few comments on my weight loss which I understand as you have to be so careful not to comment. Anyway….. yesterday I was a whippet 🎉🎉🎉

I love this! That should be your mantra "I am a Whippet!"

TheWayTheLightFalls · 10/05/2025 17:51

I’d be over the moon with that @Sighthoundsforever !

HollyGolightly4 · 10/05/2025 19:50

@WearyAuldWumman I think little targets sometimes help you stay motivated - a bit at a time!

I've been lazy tracking - I'm back on it from Monday, but still being mindful!

LBB2020 · 10/05/2025 20:31

Happy weekend all! I weighed this morning and was 2lbs down from last week so happy about that! I had shot up last week so I’m still heavier than I was a few weeks back (now 11st3lbs which is annoying I keep bouncing up and down!). Trying to stick to three meals and no snacks which is fine during the week but more difficult over the weekend when we’re out and about. Have slacked on the C25K the past couple of weeks so planning to get back into it tomorrow!

Toffeelover · 10/05/2025 20:41

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 30/04/2025 12:58

I’ll join in!

I’m fatter than a fat pig I’m in need of some assistance to trim my waistline a little.

Stats - 105kg (maybe 16 and a half stone???)
5’ 5”
vegetarian
teetotal
sugar lover
not very active

I have a few ideas - give up butter unless using it for cooking (this will be really difficult for me), eat three proper meals and no snacking, watch portion sizes, no sugar in drinks, one day of fasting per week, plenty of water, daily heart pumping exercise, twice weekly yoga. Does that sound okay? Anything else I can do? I’m unwilling to calorie count as I home cook 95% of the time and wouldn’t know where to begin to work out calories. When I make a recipe I’ll change it according to what I’ve got in, it won’t be exactly the same every time.

What do you think?

And what can I expect to lose by the end of May?

Most importantly, can you beat me with a broomstick if I don’t stick to this? Thank you.

I can relate to this 100%, just like I “didn’t identify as someone who had high blood pressure so wouldn’t take the meds correctly, I’ve stoically resisted calories counting… and I’ve been overweight for 40 years 🤦‍♀️.
i’ve finally decided to knuckle down and to count my daily intake (or macros as it’s called, which makes it more palatable for me) because I wanted to see how much protein I was eating. I was shocked to discover just how much fat and carbs I was actually eating. The calories counting was secondary.
it does take a lot of time initially to list everything you eat, there’s no getting round that, but the reality is (and I’m sure I’m no different to most) that I eat the same foods/meals quite frequently.
I've been pleasantly surprised at how I could make small changes to my diet and how listing what I eat keeps me more accountable.
Couid I persuade uou to rethink? I’m happy to support you if you like?

Vacuummyblub · 10/05/2025 21:29

@Peachypips78 Well done on the park run. I wish they dud these near me, they look like a great motivator.
@Sighthoundsforever That compliment is so lovely to read! So random and so genuine. Not surprised it gave you a skip in your step.

I'm. A bit down this evening. Looking at the upcoming weather and the fact my summer wardrobe simply doesn't fit, I've bought some new summer clothes in a size up. Hate having to spend family money on myself because I've eaten myself a dress size bigger. But I hope it means I won't feel subconscious nor curse myself trying to fit in to too small clothes. You never know, if I do keep things up then by the start of summer proper I might be able to get some of my old clothes back on!

I'm 15 minutes past my screens off curfew to that's shit too!
