Hi. I have decided to join this month. Have a big holiday to Florida this August and I need to lose weight, I don’t want my thighs sticking together! I have been messing around for the last couple of months but have now found my focus.

My stats are
Height 5ft1
Start Weight 12 stone 8
Current weight 12 stone 2

I am low carbing, I find it easier to lose this way and have done well on it in the past so fingers crossed I can get more shifted.

LegoTherapy · 01/05/2025 07:49

Make that 0.1kg up from yesterday. I’ve been bunged up 😳

Sighthoundsforever · 01/05/2025 09:31

Thanks OP for setting the May thread up. It’s a great motivation. My aim is to lose 2lbs this month and then maintain. If I manage this, i will have lost 30lbs since new year’s eve

PatienceOfEngels · 01/05/2025 09:40

Hello May!

Just heading up to London to see a show so will be having an M&S picnic lunch in the park and dinner out. Goal for today is to make good choices and enjoy the food I do eat!

Be back later to set my goals for the month.

LemonDrizzle23 · 01/05/2025 10:30

Thank you @LegoTherapy It was very hard. A couple of months down the line now and it’s starting to feel a little easier. Definitely due some self care!

Have been out for a good walk first thing, before it gets too hot - already over 20C here! Car is in for a service, so will have to run all my errands on foot today which should add to my step count.

3 and a bit weeks til half term break, so aiming to see some movement on the scale before then.

Fellsbells · 01/05/2025 17:53

There’s nothing like hot weather to make me feel big. I’m so aware of my thighs touching or how big my arms feel. Winter might be grey, but at least the clothes are comfortable and hide wobbly bits.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 01/05/2025 17:57

Checking in at the end of my (eating) day. Two meals today, in both cases grilled chicken breast plus lambs lettuce plus another salad, and kimchi. And a square of dark chocolate just now. Did some gardening, walked a reluctant doggo… happy with proceedings here.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/05/2025 18:49

Hi all, signing in for May. I have zero energy still after my failed exercise attempt earlier this week. I’ve had some weird sinus thing ever since a nasty cold early in the year. But, I also have my period and have had a crazy busy week at work, and I think all these things combined are leaving me feeling under par. Need to find my mojo!

LemonDrizzle23 · 01/05/2025 20:09

@Fellsbellssame here 😬 I have enjoyed the sun this week, and have dared to get my arms and legs out a bit. But it is definitely spurring me on to make some changes before our beach holiday at the end of August!

AnonymousMum37 · 01/05/2025 20:54

Hi all 👋🏼 can I join?

I've lost 20lb since Jan 2nd. 1.2lb a week on average, slow and steady wins the race! 😅

SW 176.6lb
CW 155.8
TW ~150lb

OpalTurtle · 02/05/2025 08:47

Hi all. Can I join? I have 50lbs to lose and have broken it up into small targets for various events. I have been yo yo dieter for most of my adult life and I am done with it. I am 60 now and have has a dreadful couple of years due to bereavements and have been so depressed that comfort eating has piled on the pounds.

I am starting with a sort of mindful eating approach- eat only when hungry and stop at enough not full. I am vegetarian and aware I need to increase protein in my diet.

Also focusing on water and sleep.

I have started aqua classes and want to combine them with swimming and starting to run. I think Couch to 5k is too hard for me so am starting a more gentle program that I used about 30 years ago.

I feel really grateful to have found this thread and looking forward to sharing the process

CanIdoit2025 · 02/05/2025 09:11

Hi All, can I join?

Now that my 4 year old is finally sleeping through the night (!!!), fingers crossed... and that I've left a really really stressful job in February, I want to take care of myself and go back to a healthy weight.
I'm currently 83kg (183lbs) and want to go back to a healthy weight of 70kg (156lbs). I haven't been at this weight for probably 6 years, before my children were born.

My biggest weaknesses are carbs (I love bread and pasta with a passion), sugar (mainly chocolate), and cheese.

Biggest danger zone is after dinner when the kids are in bed and the house is quiet, I secretly eat all of the above while scrolling on my phone/reading a book/watching tv, to the point where I sometimes feel a bit sick :( If you have any tips on how to handle this time of day I'm all ears!!

I have been keeping a food diary for a few days, signed up for a Pilates class, and plan to start some sort of daily short HIIT or pilates routine, but will definitely need some motivation and accountability, so I'm glad I found this lovely thread!

Looking forward to reading you all :)

SnowFrogJelly · 02/05/2025 09:22

Hi can I join? Currently the wrong side of 12 stone and only 5ft 2 😬 I’ve recently lost around 5/6 lbs but have now stalled. I am trying IF and calorie counting but struggle to stick to 2 meals a day. For exercise I swim and walk but generally find it so hard to shift any weight.. great to join you all!

PatienceOfEngels · 02/05/2025 13:11

Okay, still on holiday (heading back tomorrow) so will start properly on Sunday and weigh in.

Had a good day out in London yesterday - theatre was amazing, restaurant and heat not so great but got lots of steps in, lots of water and fun with family.

April has been stressful at work which means not enough exercise and too much junk. Scales have definitely gone up rather than down. But after 2 weeks school holiday I feel like I've found some calm again and with spring in the air, am ready to have a fresh start.

My main goals:

-move: try to get steps in everyday, evening walk if work day, pelvic floor exercises everyday, try to add something else (either yoga or some weight exercises a few times a week - have been looking at Sally Gunnell on Instagram!). Loved my daily outside yoga which I did last year for 4 months in a row over summer but need to get back into the groove of daily exercise. Make sure I get outside everyday - bonus if it involves exercise like walking, yoga or gardening.

-eat: be strict with no eating after dinner and stop 'treating' myself on days off to junk. 3 meals a day, fruit/veg for snack in the morning, and stick to my drinking habits (no alcohol, caffeine only at breakfast and never past noon, water and herbal tea and that's it!). Treat myself to delicious stuff instead - homemade wraps with halloumi or pesto chicken, prawn stir fries or omelettes - be decadent but healthy! That means no crisps and keep cheese to meals.

-mind: stop mindless scrolling on my phone. No devices after 8pm, set my app limits on again and find other things to focus on. I already read everyday and never take my phone upstairs to bed but am bad at looking it as soon as I sit down with breakfast/coffee. We're strict with our kids but I need to model the same behaviour for them. Time to pick up my magazines, music, puzzles, play games. Try to do more regular mindfulness - have the Calm app on my phone so should use it!

I need to lose 5-6kg (depending on how much I weigh at the moment). Am already 6kg down from 2.5 years ago but have been yo-yoing the rest and struggling not to get sidetracked.

Kazziek · 02/05/2025 16:21

Hi, Kaz here.
CW 13st 1
GW 12st

Got some work to do. I exercise 4/5 times a week, plus walking to work. I have found that now I'm in my 50s my body needs far less calories, and if I even look at bread I put on a pound 😆

Going to try lots of fat free yoghurt, with hummus & veg for lunch and a regular dinner.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 02/05/2025 16:49

@CanIdoit2025 don’t have those things in the house, and brush your teeth immediately after dinner. Works!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/05/2025 18:26

Hi everyone. Fish I was feeling demotivated and sorry for myself yesterday. I am trying to give myself a shake. But I’ve got a big old dose of pmt in addition to this crappy sinus thing I can’t shake off.

Anyway, I managed to do a core class today so that was progress!

Welcome lots of new people!

I like your list @PatienceOfEngels i think I need to get outside more and ditch my phone a bit to get myself into a better headspace.

I Am not having wine tonight - that’s my big commitment to my goals this week. I’m a fan of slumping on the sofa on a Friday night with a glass or two, but not tonight!

CosmicScouser · 02/05/2025 18:57

Hi all. I checked I last Friday (on the April thread) to say I'd done my first jog in a long time. Only 30mins. But it's something.

Today, 1 week later, just done my second jog. Again, 30mins. Really didn't feel like it, however I really enjoy it once I was out.

Im just doing one day a week at first. Partly because of past injuries. But also because I get overwhelmed if I try to change my routine too quickly.

I'm establishing a Friday habit. Once I've got used to that, I'll add another day to my rhythm...

Omg great tip about teeth brushing!

socks1107 · 02/05/2025 19:00

Welcome to everyone new! And hi all us returning.
im trying gin tonight in a bid to reduce the wine calories. I only drink at weekends and account for it but with my plateau I’m trying to switch things about to get it moving again

QueenMabby · 02/05/2025 21:24

@CanIdoit2025 - after dinner as I leave the kitchen I pull the door to, and say “the kitchen is closed” to myself. That helps me draw a line under eating and means I rarely snack after dinner.

LemonDrizzle23 · 03/05/2025 07:27

Welcome to everyone joining! We’re a very friendly group 👋

@PatienceOfEngels I love that list of goals. Especially the decadent but healthy one. DH and I are proper foodies, and this is where it has got me after a decade of marriage 🙄 Am aiming to try some wonderful healthy foods, and expand on the chicken / rice / veg combo.

Week going well for me so far. Ive had a further loss since WOW, so Im doing the right things. Just need to not fuck it up over the weekend! Having a roast tomorrow, but otherwise I think healthy meals are planned. Just need to keep moving and avoid snacking…

devoncreamtea · 03/05/2025 07:48

Hello everyone, joining the new thread after appearing and then disappearing in April! Had a good start - weight loss wise - but struggled when we had ‘special visitors’ in school for a few days. I’m going for it in May!
Just weighed for accuracy and appear to have gained 2lbs! How depressing!
CW - 170 lbs
GW - 140 lbs

😳

socks1107 · 03/05/2025 08:41

Since increasing calories but increasing protein I’ve lost two pounds and my moving average has come down. Hopefully the tweak is enough to break the plateau. Ten weeks until my first holiday so I’m focused on that now and how I want to feel. If I can do 10lbs I’ll be at my goal weight (just!)
