January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

TealSloth · 04/01/2025 20:19

I have issues eating at evening too i need to stop too. May be drink water more after last meal of the day.

LuckyMauveReader · 04/01/2025 20:19

It's great to hear of everyone's successes and a massive motivator.

Today I went out for a walk and just fell short of 10k steps. I also did an easy beginner yoga workout. OMG! I forgot how good yoga was for stretching all your muscles.

Today I hit a small milestone - I could tighten the bra straps. It is amazing what has happened to my body since giving up a few bad things. I've had no cravings whatsoever and I'm not ravenously hungry like I would be usually. I am thirsty all the time though.

@Puffalicious is it your recipe for the slaw? Would you be able to send me the recipe, please?

Well done everybody, sounds like everyone is feeling positive still and making a great start to the year! Going to try making the 'zingy slaw' myself today, I love those sorts of flavours, also going to get some kimchi, I love that to just have a spoonful of for a snack! Yesterday I was under my calorie count despite having a few squares of chocolate so all good. Today's planned food is soup for lunch and salmon with roast med veg for dinner - may add some butter beans to dinner as well. Happy that I am back into tracking food and also have been weighing out portions again, makes a big difference in accountability! I do a daily yoga practice anyway but wanted to start doing kettlebell workouts this year, once or twice a week - kettlebell arrives today! If anyone has any tips for the best online kettlebell workout classes for beginners let me know 😊😊

Wanting to join for some motivation please! Have just over 10kg I want to lose.

In the past when I've dieted I have weighed myself daily and slowly gone down (obviously with some days slightly more but downward trend quickly). I started on the 31st dec and have done so well, minimal sugar, healthy eating, exercise daily. However have weighed the EXACT same amount every day. Whaaat. I don't understand why when previously it'd go down a few grams. I'm going to have to switch to weekly weigh-ins I guess as previously weighing myself daily was a good motivator but this feels depressing haha!

Try and count your calories, am hoping to do that and keep up your healthy eating and exercise you will do it. Am in the same boat myself. Need to stop eating junk and comfort eating. The rest will come it self.

justanotherboymum · 05/01/2025 08:45

Thanks yes is just consistency isn't it. Just done a 20min walking workout on YouTube, I recommend for exercise-haters like myself! I muted it and put my own music on so it was enjoyable. With kids 20mins is realistically all I can do but daily it should add up compared to the past which was no exercise at all...!

UnreadyEthel · 05/01/2025 09:00

Morning all. Joining as I have 2.5 st to lose to get back to my pre-child healthy weight. Youngest child is now 3.5 and there’s no more planned so time to get on with it! Have shifted my first lb this week by just eating a bit less (and less sugar). I’m considering trying an intermittent fasting approach and/or cutting carbs.

Getting more exercise in is going to be the hardest thing. I changed career due to childcare and used to have a reasonably active job, but am now stuck at a desk all day. DH has also taken on most of the dog walking due to our new working patterns.

This is an amazing effort keep it up. My weakness is when am down il hit all the bad food you can think of its been taking place for over years since lock down shall I say. I just want to break that bad cycle. With all support of wonderful ladies on here and your self I know il do it.
Great work and keep it up thats your first step once your in a routine there's nothing stopping you.

Goodafternoonmillie · 05/01/2025 10:34

@justanotherboymum that does seem strange that it hasnt fluctuated even slightly? I used to weigh daily and look at the average across each week. I am switching to weekly weigh in this time just because weighing daily sometimes makes me a bit obsessive.
I love a YouTube walking workout too.

Yesterday was on plan @ 1472 calories.

Todays plan:
25 mins Heather Robertson workout completed first thing this morning ✔️

Breakfast: Smoothie
Lunch: have made a salad with Pearl Barley and Mozzarella
Dinner: DH is sorting this and undecided atm.

Has everyone had much snow? Just a sprinkling where I am which the kids are disappointed about!

It's snowing here inches where I am. My youngest daughter is playing in it.
Had musli and blue berries with coffee for breakfast. Tastes amazing and healthy. Keeps you full for longer.

Another request for the zingy slaw recipe please 🙏🏼
(I know it is on here somewhere but had a quick browse and can't find it)

A lot of people are making good progress which I love reading 😀

Some others, like myself, feeling quite down on themselves and unhappy with weight/how we look/how it's going currently....but WE GOT THIS 🙌🏼

Love this group, it's now my bedtime reading.

HappyLittleTreeFriend · 05/01/2025 11:41

Lots of snow here! Just been sledding with the DC! About to go out again, love it 😊 building with the snow this time though! I'm sticking to no brekkie, lunch and dinner, no snacks. Yesterday's dinner was great, salmon and a roast veg ratatouille with butter beans - worked out low cal and very filling and tasty. Got lots of the ratatouille left for dinner tonight and some salmon for lunch. Going to have flaked salmon salad for lunch 👍🏻👍🏻 though it's not very salad weather 😂😂

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 05/01/2025 12:02

Update here. I’m just over 13 stone now, approx 13 stone 2 llb down from 13.5 stone which I’m really pleased about.

I watched a good Channel 5 programme about diets and exercise and how if you have a few treats but your diet is otherwise good plus exercise then that’s ok. That ruled out the vegan sausage roll and coconut macaroon and chocolate tiffin I had yesterday then.

I found out last week though that the Pop Chips and other things I used to gorge on, I don’t like them as much as before and could divide them into eg 3 separate portions but obvs less calories.

So yesterday:

Vogel soya linseed toast with pro active spread and marmite for breakfast

half a bowl of spring vegetable soup plus a Warburtons thin bagel protein with pro activ spread lunch

gammon ham, 2 roast potatoes plus red cabbage broccoli and Carrots dinner

2 x plums snack plus mince pie and a spice bar Christmas cake plus the other treats.

exercise 45-55 walk

@justanotherboymum agreed shorter work outs like HIIT ones can be shorter than even 20 minute ones and make the use of that time.

@Goodafternoonmillie I find weekly weigh ins are better than daily ones personally.

Midnightstar76 · 05/01/2025 12:44

Happy with my small steps so far. Am mainly sticking to two meals but not today. I am not being too strict with myself. I did help finish the Xmas chocks but in moderation and didn’t have too much. All gone now so no temptation at arms length. I did my first park run yesterday and yes it felt like a marathon afterwards but I did it. Some gentle yoga 🧘 later today and have managed no alcohol so dry January going well.

Puffalicious · 05/01/2025 12:47

Morning!

It's Oncemorewithattitude's recipe for Zingy Slaw. I screen shotted it but deleted it! Hopefully she'll be along to post again.

If it's helpful, I put mine on recipes in MFP and a huge portion came out at 114 calories, bit you could easily have half that at a time.

Lovely brunch today:

2 boiled eggs
Smoked salmon
Spinach
Blueberries
Yorkshire Biscuit Tea (I know it sounds wild, but it's delicious & really tastes like tea & a biscuit! The toast & jam tea is also fantastic. Maybe not for tea purists, but I love them).

Midnightstar76 · 05/01/2025 12:49

Also not going to weigh myself until beginning of January just because I get so obsessed and it really alters my state of mind if the go up which I know can be for all sorts of reasons. So just what will work best for me is one a month at the beginning.
SW on 30th December was 12 stone 7 1/2 pounds. Hoping to reach 12 stone by July 28th for my hols. Would be great if any more.

TheRealHousewife · 05/01/2025 12:50
