January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Today:
Small bowl of porridge, with flax seed and extra oat bran, blueberries. Coffee

About 60g of halloumi (fried but scant oil), salad leaves, tomatoes, a few olives, thin slice of wholemeal bread

Cup of cocoa (semi skim milk, no sugar), 2 oat biscuits

A few of those Roka cheese biscuits ,
Pasta. Stuffed with aubergines, peas, drizzle of olive oil, thin shavings of grand padano.
A grapefruit.

No alcohol!

I will lose weight in this level of eating, slowly, but typically it will happen. But it seems a lot more than some others eat.

OnceMoreWithAttitude · 03/01/2025 21:21

Oh wow @Puffalicious that view! I would love to be there too! Really missing my walking since a December accident but I am ready to get back at it.

Won’t be as spectacular as that until later in the year (Yorkshire, Lakes, Dorset, Northumberland likely this year).

Yes , Zingy Slaw is my proud invention and I am glad you like it! (Tbf I probably adapted it)

It can last 3 days if you make a big lot. It is so great when you are tempted by a little something from the fridge.

Puffalicious · 03/01/2025 21:30

Sorry to hear about the accident OnceMoreWithAttitude.

Little bits at a time & you'll get there. Beautiful places you have lined up to visit. We are huge lovers of Northumberland. We've been many, many times, & it really is a hidden gem (shhhhh don't tell anyone). I actually can't wait to go back soon- the beaches are calling me!

Puffalicious · 03/01/2025 21:31

And, yes, I have hundreds of Slaw left for nibbling on!

littlepurplerose · 03/01/2025 21:37

Hey everyone

Just a check in to day I had another positive day . Did a run (got a PB!) and kept within my calories.

Feeling so happy!! I hope I can keep this up x

LBB2020 · 03/01/2025 22:08

Just checking in. Not started on the diet yet but have hit my steps target the past couple of days (will definitely be harder when back to work next week as I WFH).
Looking forward to getting back into some sort of routine, eating more healthy foods and starting some exercise next week!

talkingdeadscot · 03/01/2025 23:34

Another good day

Greek yoghurt, prunes and low sugar granola for breakfast
Ham salad for lunch
Bean and vegetable stew for dinner

Roll on tomorrow!

I am off on a walk! A lovely flat park with beautiful stream, trees: the first walk for the sake of walking since Mid -Dec (I was hit by a car).

And I have booked a gym class for a week today!

Have a great day, everyone!

HappyLittleTreeFriend · 04/01/2025 09:18

Well done everybody, sounds like everyone is feeling positive still and making a great start to the year! Going to try making the 'zingy slaw' myself today, I love those sorts of flavours, also going to get some kimchi, I love that to just have a spoonful of for a snack! Yesterday I was under my calorie count despite having a few squares of chocolate so all good. Today's planned food is soup for lunch and salmon with roast med veg for dinner - may add some butter beans to dinner as well. Happy that I am back into tracking food and also have been weighing out portions again, makes a big difference in accountability! I do a daily yoga practice anyway but wanted to start doing kettlebell workouts this year, once or twice a week - kettlebell arrives today! If anyone has any tips for the best online kettlebell workout classes for beginners let me know 😊😊

happytobemrsg · 04/01/2025 10:49

Today is the first of 4 pre-planned meals out this month. It’s going to be so tough sticking to the plan. My worry is that if I eat a big meal before I go, rather than stopping me eating when I go out, I’ll just eat anyway & I end up eating twice. It’s a cafe with yummy cakes. Advice??

Sparxdislike · 04/01/2025 11:07

Does anyone have overnight oats? I was thinking of trying this as sounds filling. Any top tips if you do :)

HappyLittleTreeFriend · 04/01/2025 11:50

@happytobemrsg I'd just enjoy the meal out and eat what I wanted but then compensate with reduced calories the rest of the week, one meal won't affect your progress if all the other days you eat well 😊👍🏻💜 do you calorie count in an app there's a week view in Nutracheck which is helpful for this approach!

I have it most work days for lunch. I keep it simple- porridge oats, Greek yogurt, splash of milk & whatever berries I have- fresh or frozen. I sometimes add a tiny bit of honey/ maple syrup.

My DC like it with apple juice instead of milk & added nuts.

Goodafternoonmillie · 04/01/2025 12:47

Those recipes do look delicious @TheRealHousewife !! Your DH sounds like me in the kitchen 🤣 I make such a mess and my DH goes around cleaning up after me 😅 he says why do you have to use every single pot and utensil!!

I think I might have to try this zingy slaw too 🤔 going to add the ingredients to my shopping list for next week!

A good day yesterday, stuck to my plan and came in @ 1460 calories. Completed my walking workout in the morning and during my lunch break went for a 40 mins walk which was so nice, frosty but the sun was shining.

Today I have done a 40 mins Caroline Girvan strength workout, inspired by @LegoTherapy 💪🏻

Food:
Breakfast- Smoothie
Lunch- last of the veg risotto
Dinner - we are having carbonara so limited spare calories for snacks but thats ok.
I have been having herbal tea when the snack urge comes on.

LegoTherapy · 04/01/2025 15:27

@Goodafternoonmillie which one did you do of Caroline's?
I've made my lentil, carrot and celery soup this afternoon. I'm not sure we will have that for dinner today. I might save it for Monday after school. We are eating at odd times and I'll be glad to get back to normal in some ways.

TheRealHousewife · 04/01/2025 16:36

@Goodafternoonmillie Well done on completing CG's strength workout 👏👌

@happytobemrsg Cant you share a dessert? I'd have a couple of hard boiled eggs and a large glass of water prior. That way you could go for a soup or salad and half a dessert 👍 🍨

happytobemrsg · 04/01/2025 16:49

I ended up having a homemade vegan sausage & egg muffin & in the cafe I ate a slice of lemon drizzle with a hot chocolate 😂

Goodafternoonmillie · 04/01/2025 17:09

@LegoTherapy I did Fuel Day 30 as it was the first one that came up and I like ones that have No Repeats in 🤣 I havent ever followed the plans (maybe I should) just always pick a random workout based on what I want to do Legs/Arms etc.

Puffalicious · 04/01/2025 17:19

I'm out tonight with my girlfriends. No dinner, just drinks & bit of dancing (calorie burning since I've had visitors today & my niece still here playing I've had no chance to walk). I don't drink, so that helps, but wanting to try & avoid fizzy soft drinks. I know they're zero calories, bit they're not good for weight loss I hear, so thinking of alternatives that are non-carbonated??

PatienceOfEngels · 04/01/2025 18:10

Today:
-boiled egg and rye toast with butter, tea and coffee
-apple
-leftover broccoli and cauliflower cheese bake
-bag of malteser's
-fish pie (white fish, prawns, sweetcorn, leek and cheesy mash) with carrots
-last half portion of birthday tiramisu
-glass of apple/pear juice

Tonight I will be enjoying some new year cheese and a non alcoholic gin and tonic in front of top the TV.

Spent this morning at the hospital - emotionally shattered.

Managed to do an hour work this afternoon and then headed out by myself for a walk to clear my head.

Twateralflow · 04/01/2025 18:27

Argh I had high hopes of running today but woke up at 4 feeling very unwellEnvy I must have picked up a vomiting bug from work. Only bonus is I can't eat! As I was really struggling with unhealthy choices in the evening. I'm seeing this as a reset and once over it will get back to healthy choices and lots of movement

LegoTherapy · 04/01/2025 18:29

@Goodafternoonmillie thank you. I've found it so will give it a whirl. We are going on holiday in half term and despite being what a lot of people would deem slim now in my head I still look the same-awful unless clothed but even then it's not great. My legs are bluish white like a true Celt and it really doesn't help the slightly lumpy and rather wobbly look I have going on. Smooth is not a word in my legs' vocabulary. I've started moisturising regularly and will get the body brush out. I hate being in a swimsuit so much. I bemoaned it on these threads nearly 2 years ago and my opinion of myself is still the same. I weigh a few pounds less now but I'm still the same bluish white lumpy legged lass I was.

Goodafternoonmillie · 04/01/2025 19:29

@LegoTherapy I went a lot slower than she does it, Im sure she is fast forwarded 🤣 enjoy!
I am also deathly pale, I used to fake tan all the time but now I just cba with it all. I think body brushing has other good health benefits too 🙌🏻

Hen2000 · 04/01/2025 20:11

Hope those who are poorly feel better soon!

I've had a good couple of days. Had a new kitchen scale arrive this evening. I have done cal counting in the past and honestly I don't enjoy it but I think it helps with portion control. I often make a couple of days lunch at a time and I do notice a difference when I track protein and carb weights.

Planning to do some meal prep tomorrow
Thinking of doing an egg bake for breakfast and some soup for lunches. I have a chicken to roast and some steaks before our next food delivery. Would love some dinner ideas. My husband likes meat heavy meals and we have active children with big appetites. We do simple meals a few nights a week (protein, couple of veg and a carb (rice/sweet potato/potato)
