January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Well done everyone so far! I am finding reading this thread and everyone’s perspectives really inspiring!!

yesterday was on plan! My snacks were 1 x satsuma and some dark chocolate ‘bark’ that I made with pistachios and sea salt. Yum!!

todays plan:
40 min walking workout
Smoothie
Veg Risotto
Meatballs and salad

also working from home so may add in a quick lunch time walk outside if I decide I can brave the cold 🥶

Twateralflow · 03/01/2025 07:52

Yesterday started well with 30 minute strength work out. Lunch was yoghurt, cherries, cashews, sunflower seeds and protein powder. Dinner was tofu bolognese with pasta. All sounds great but then I had a few chocolate truffles! I'm trying to get my chocolate hit from low cal hot chocolate but then I think ooo I know what would go nice with this! Trying to not slob on the sofa too much so watched Traitors then cleaned the bathroom before bed. Well done everyone

PatienceOfEngels · 03/01/2025 08:10

Thank you for all the birthday wishes! Lots of birthday treats.
-boiled egg and rye toast with butter, coffee
-doughnut, shortbread
-white baguette with cream cheese and salmon
-ice cream
-broccoli and cauliflower cheese, fried potatoes

Things didn't quite go to plan as 2 close family members admitted to hospital and spent last night in A&E (both admitted, one to ICU). Bit of a mess and will be heading to hospital again later today. Ended up eating very late with kids when we got home (and not exactly what we had planned).

Today will be difficult but will try and plan ahead a bit. Just had my usual breakfast. Will take food with me if we go to hospital near lunch and will get something out the freezer for dinner (probably pea soup).

Tinytigertail · 03/01/2025 08:33

Good morning everyone, I got knocked down with the horrid Christmas flu that's going around. I'm finally feeling better today, so this is my Day one and I'm weighing in at 74.5kg. I've a long drive ahead of me today, so limited time for exercise, so will focus on food and making good decisions. Also aiming to drink 2 liters of water. Good luck everyone!

LegoTherapy · 03/01/2025 10:59

@PatienceOfEngels I'm sorry to hear that and hope your relatives make a speedy recovery.

Still in full holiday mode here. Lots of food left although I seem to have eaten most of the M&S chocolate biscuits 🥴 I've told Ds that from Monday we are back to our normal meals and I'm planning a food shop once I've sorted what food we have in the house. I'm hoping to meal plan better this year. Tonight is homemade pizza because I had dough and sauce in the freezer and it's an easy meal.

I'll be getting a walk in today if around 3 miles. Monday will be back to the school run and a minimum 5 miles a day. I really want to start some resistance training to complement the cardio I do. Caroline fireman on YouTube is someone I've followed before. I'm not sure I could do this first thing in the morning but I might give it a go.

TheRealHousewife · 03/01/2025 12:23

Good Afternoon

@PatienceOfEngels Im so sorry to read your update. Wishing your relatives a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹

Menu
Meal 1 - Prawn & Boiled egg salad.
Meal 2 - ??? Really don’t know what I fancy. Had intended a chicken tray bake but it isn’t floating my boat.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Gosh so sorry to read that @PatienceOfEngels, I hope you and family are doing ok!!

@LegoTherapy I love Caroline Girvan (?)! Maybe one day I will look like her 🤣 her workouts are hardcore!!

OnceMoreWithAttitude · 03/01/2025 12:35

Yesterday:
Small bowl of porridge (semi skimmed milk) with blueberries, flax seeds and extra oat bran. Coffee.

Thin slice of wholemeal sourdough with thin slices of the most fantastic Comte left over from Xmas. Zingy Slaw. Clementine.

2 oat biscuits, 2 choc gingers

Pasta stuffed with aubergine (370 cals) on a bed of spinach, drizzle of Olive oil, thin shavings of Grand Padano

Look away now if you prefer happy endings ;)
A Margarita, a mojito and a small glass of red.

No official weigh-in until Wednesday but all was well.

Good news for me is that I walked the furthest I have since having an accident half way through December. The bad news is it was to a local bar and back with a friend. I really need to get back to some proper exercise.

That sounds awful @PatienceOfEngels - fingers crossed for everyone.

LegoTherapy · 03/01/2025 12:40

@Goodafternoonmillie that was a funny typo of mine 🤣 my phone seems to change things in the split second between me reading it and it being ok and me hitting post.

TerroristToddler · 03/01/2025 12:51

Day 2 for me and my meals today will be:

Brek -
porridge (150 cals)
Protein water (61 cals)

Lunch -
Sausage, homemade chips and broccoli (771 cals)

Snack -
Satsuma (30 cals)

Dinner -
Jacket pot with tuna and salad (340 cals)

Off to panto today with the kids but hopi g to squeeze in a peloton ride or quite workout later on!

HappyLittleTreeFriend · 03/01/2025 13:09

I have had two cups of coffee, a cup of tea, a cup of chamomile tea and a small banana so far today - dinner tonight will be Caesar salad with croutons, Parmesan, anchovies and a roast chicken thigh. Not wildly healthy with the Caesar dressing but I'll keep it minimal. I did have some chocolate and root vegetable crisps as snacks yesterday but small portions and ended the day under my calorie count (Nutracheck has suggested 1566 a day which I'm trying to stick to) so I'm hoping to drink more water today and not snack/have fruit as a snack instead of chocolate!

TinDogTavern · 03/01/2025 13:19

Right I've now gone all in.

Done the Big New Year Shop of Good Intentions yesterday so fridge full of healthy food. Have meal planned for the next few days and will be batch cooking calorie counted meals at the weekend (I'm doing calorie counting and MFP).

Did my first exercise class in forever this morning. I was terrible and had to do all the easiest options and take breaks but it's done.

I have a LOT to lose, so please don't judge, I only decided today to post my actual weight, on the basis of being accountable here;

SW: 12st 10lbs
TW: 8st 10lbs

Will be weighing in on Mondays.

happytobemrsg · 03/01/2025 13:55

👋🏻👋🏻 Joining you as need as much motivation as I can get.

Currently on maternity leave after having baby #3 in May. I’m 9st 5.2lb. I want to be 8st 10lb by the time I return to work in May but it feels unlikely as my weight loss has been painstakingly slow. I lost about 2lb last month. I eat one big meal a day & something lighter. Trying really hard not to eat of an evening whilst watching tv. DH is trying to lose the same as me so that’ll help. I’ve thrown out all crisps!

AnonymousMum37 · 03/01/2025 14:24

I took the kids on a 'run' this morning which ended up being mostly a long walk, with me circling back to the youngest and dragging her along plus climbing hills and running down them 😆 but we were out for 3 hours and I did have to give her a piggy back for some of it ... So definitely some exercise!

We didn't have breakfast as it was meant to be a quick run before breakfast, so had a brunch/lunch of bacon and egg in half a part baked baguette.

I also had a triangle of toblerone 🤫

Planning on a plant based fillet, salad and coleslaw for tea, maybe with a pitta bread if I'm hungry.

PatienceOfEngels · 03/01/2025 15:33

Big New Year Shop of Good Intentions 😂

Sounds familiar@TinDogTavern

We are still trying to get through NY and birthday food.
One of the many reasons I hate my birthday at this time of year is that people want to treat me at the excite time I'm trying to shift bad habits. Not as bad as it used to be but even this year I was given a pack of shortbread, Terry's chocolate orange, crackers for cheese, and a bottle of non-alcoholic gin with some tonic (2 years ago my brother gave me a lovely gin and then I gave up booze! I only gave in and let DH drink it this year).

Today:
-boiled egg, rye toast and butter, cup of darjeeling, 1 cup of coffee with milk
-leftover broccoli and cauliflower cheese bake
-birthday tiramisu and herbal tea
-dinner will be pea soup with extra potatoes (need using up! were going to be for dinner last night). Bread and butter.

Got DC out for a wet walk this afternoon for an hour so have got my 10k steps in and my outside time.

DH is heading back to hospital this evening so I'm pretty sire after the stress of the last 24 hours I will cave and clear some of the cheese in the fridge. Not going to to buy any extra treats in but will treat Monday as my back to work/school new year.

May do some batch cooking this weekend to stock the freezer to deal with hospital visits (expecting one family member to be discharged at beginning of next week if not weekend, but other will highly likely be in longer) and the fact hat DH is starting new job next week. It never rains but it pours 🌧

happytobemrsg · 03/01/2025 17:47

I think I’ve got DS8’s tummy bug so at least I don’t fancy the Cadbury mint crisp in the fridge

allthenoise · 03/01/2025 17:52

The leftover Christmas/new year food is the worst! I'm trying to hard not to eat all the sweet treats but end up caving in the end.

Weighed myself today, eek. Taking it as my starting weight. I've joined a rugby club (middle aged crisis anyone) so hopefully that will help fun. Going to focus on fat percentage rather than overall weight as I'm hoping to put on muscle.

SW: 66.9 kg/25.6% fat

GW: 20% fat

TheRealHousewife · 03/01/2025 18:55

Welcome and congratulations on your new baby @happytobemrsg 👍You did well to lose in December, well done 👏

@PatienceOfEngels ❤️

@TinDogTavern Well done on getting your first exercise session done ✔️ 👏

Enjoy the panto @TerroristToddler.

Yesterday had a menu change and had a prawn salad with seeded crackers.

Shattered after taking down Christmas decorations (I know it’s early) so bath and an early night for me.

Thank you @happytobemrsg I make a lot up as I go along. This was a chopped mixed salad with my own dressing and prawns straight out of the packet. Easy 😬. Photo is of another chopped salad with an home made individual quiche.

I have some low carb books I use sometimes, I’ll post a photo of their covers tomorrow 👍

Oh that quiche looks yum! I’m not a great cook. TBH I’m not a good cook either 😂 I need easy, quick, healthy, filling & yummy recipes- the holy grail 😂

TheRealHousewife · 03/01/2025 20:35

@happytobemrsg Im sure you could be a good cook … are you distracted by work or young children? If you’re like my OH he really enjoys nutritious food but hates cooking. When he does venture into the kitchen he is impatient and cooks at too high a temp … plus he makes soooooo much mess that it looks like Armageddon 😅

Glad you are feeling better @Puffalicious .

Sounds as if you had a great day, looked after yourself and that sounds like tasty delicious food. Fab!

I love raspberries.

That's so kind. Thank you.

I too love raspberries- had more today!

happytobemrsg · 03/01/2025 21:01

@TheRealHousewife I think my lack of confidence holds me back. Everything seems to have so many ingredients that if it doesn’t work out it’s usually quite an expensive mistake. Plus my DH is vegan & DC are crazy fussy eaters 🤦🏻‍♀️ any new recipes I’ve tried tend to be vegan so at least me & DH can try together.

Puffalicious · 03/01/2025 21:10

Oncemorewithattitude

Was it you who posted the Zingy Slaw recipe? I think it was. I made it yesterday & it's delicious. I definitely went a bit mad as I chopped up a whole red cabbage, was shocked at the amount, so had to match with carrots 🤣. Added all the other ingredients & had a huge portion with prawns for dinner last night.

Dinner tonight was more with 3 eggs & tuna (I has hungry!). It's really bulked out my dinners, meaning I've been really full, which is brilliant. I have loads left!

Other meal: Greek yogurt & raspberries. Tea.

Snacks: Naked Blueberry bar & sugar-free Kombacha. An apple. A few dates with cashews in (lovely & sweet).

Walked again today. A long, frosty walk through the West End of my city. It was so beautiful. DC were at the carnival & I got a precious few hours.

In my getting back to basics, I aim to walk at least 45 minutes each day. Today was double that, so if I can do that every now & again all's the better.

However, I'd rather have been up the Munro that DP was today. Look how glorious it was! We're so lucky to live close enough to these kind of scenes. Maybe next month!
