January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Food delivery arriving tonight. Really scraping the bottom of the barrel with food today

Fellsbells · 11/01/2025 17:06

Sorry for your loss @PatienceOfEngels x

TerroristToddler · 11/01/2025 17:24

So lovely to see everyone sticking with it!

I'm still going strong and keeping around 1,300 cals. Annoyingly my period arrived out the blue yesterday so felt a bit bleugh, but managed to keep to cals but had a day off exercise. Back at it today though and managed a 4k treadmill run/plod this morning.

Spent today batch cooking for the week - so have made a lower cal lasagne, vegetable curry and some soup. Freezer is well stocked now!

If anyone has any good slow cooker recipes for low cal meals I'd be really interested to see them!

TerroristToddler · 11/01/2025 17:24

Good idea using a smaller plate! My mum does that when dieting too.

I did this it does help its all what we see and how our brain reacts

TealSloth · 11/01/2025 19:26

Vegetable pasta and cheese for my dinner with diet fizzy drink.
Not going for any seconds am going to be good.

PatienceOfEngels · 11/01/2025 19:33

Thank you for all the good wishes.

I just tried on a clothing order I put in last week.

The size 14 cords were a bit snug, the size 16 cords were massive, then I realised the 14 was a 12!!! They sent me the wrong size so no wonder they didn't fit. Trying a new style thing - bigger trousers to put comfort over fitted. Have got a really nice pair of black cord joggers from Next and blue cords from Seasalt, some roomier T-shirts and spacious jumpers/cardigans. Also bought some bright purple trainers to make me smile.

It's been a shitty start to the year with a difficult week ahead (funerals happen very very quickly here so we expect it to by the end of this week) but we'll get through it.

Today:
-boiled egg and rye toast with butter, 2 cups coffee with milk
-2 slices bread and butter
-chicken stew (mushrooms, onions, carrots, bacon) with mashed potatoes and broccoli
-apple and glass of pear juice

Have just been out to stock up on healthy food (DH usually does the shop but with everything going on...).

Hi I would like to join please. I’m stuck in a rut of eating comfort food and being glued to the sofa keeping warm! I’m 50 in a few months and am going on a special holiday so thought I could use that as a goal to sort myself out. I’d like to lose up to a stone but mostly I would like to just feel healthier & fitter & look better. I have Adhd and so I find it really difficult sticking at anything and looking at where to even start I find quite overwhelming as there is just so much info online.

Has anyone got any tips for reducing the overwhelm, getting started & making myself stick to new routines? I have a gym membership but unsurprisingly I rarely go! I lack motivation & I need to change! Many thanks

👋 Welcome. I've re-joined the thread after putting all the weight back on I lost a few years ago 🙈. I'm 53, so know all about the menopausal no motivation! After being lifted by all these lovely posters, I've got a determination to lose again & keep.it off.

BC (before children!) I was an absolute gym bunny, size 8 with a 6 pack. Over 20 years later I'm needing to get right back to basics & have decided to start I need to keep.it simple- I've committed to walking quickly 45 minutes a day. I'm trying to mix up the routes, but what's really helping is a) listening to a pod-cast b) it being cold - I love the frosty weather. Perhaps the pod-cast/ audio book will help with the adhd? My middle DS has adhd & he never has his headphones off when he's out & about. The cold means I don't get too sweaty, which I hate. I really do feel that I'm breathing better even after just 10 days (I had a chest infection before Xmas & had been struggling).

I know you might prefer other exercise, but I like it as there's no agenda to make a class on time & I can do it straight from home/ whatever I am as long as my trainers/ walking shoes are in the car.

Sending you ❤️ & thoughts Patienceofengels

Today was a hard day. I had lunch at my best friend's house with other brilliant friends I hadn't seen in ages. We had 4 hours straight of laughter & chat!

I was careful & had just a little of everything (salmon blinis/ little sandwiches/ slice of quiche/ olives/ few oatcakes with lovely cheese, and one, small slice of home-made cake- all delicious.. I really, really didn't over-eat, I could easily have eaten double what I did and counting it all on MFP I'm about 1000 calories over my usual daily allowance!!!! And this was only one meal - didn't.eat before, and not eating again today

Whilst I'm not beating myself up- we all need to live & have good times- it has really shown me how the calories add up extremely quickly without eating that much. I think I'm finally realising that this is why I've put so much weight on over the last 2 years. It's been a real revelation!

I did manage my 45 minute walk beforehand. I walked to my childhood home, which I've not been round in years (it's not enroute to anywhere I go), so that was quite emotional.

Back on plan tomorrow.

I'm really annoyed with myself and my husband 😅 on track all day, went for a run this morning and took kids for long walk with friends this afternoon. Bought small individual pizzas to add veg to rather than ordering in or buying big ones...

The DH poured us both a cider and made us all sponge pudding and custard. I thought why not, I'll have a small portion,it's been a good day .. well I just added it up and he added 555 calories to my day!! Grr. I know it's my responsibility what I eat but I'm still cross!

I've over done my eating by having extra portion of pasta. During week I've been good. No work out today going to have an early night start fresh tommorow.

Just caught up on the posts - late to the party. Conscious that some of you are going through some very tough times. Be very gentle with yourself. I remember when I lost my gorgeous mum - everything went out the window. I’m hoping 2025 will be a good year for us to become healthier. I hope to lose 2 stone and won’t feel so alone knowing you are all on a similar journey. I walk for an hour each day with my 2 rescue pups 🐶 - it’s not very fast as they do so much sniffing but at least it’s better than nothing.
SW: 12st
CW: 11st 9
GW: 10st
Best of luck everyone

happytobemrsg · 11/01/2025 23:39

@Puffalicious it really does add up doesn’t it! MyFitnessPal is a real eye opener.

Good morning ladies hope your all well. Am up having my breakfast. Musli and coffee. Off to work around 8am. It's been a heavy night with heavy meal. Need a good Sunday where am having right portion of food and plenty of work out. That's what I need to do today. Finger crossed need to stick to the plan.
Have a good day ladies see you all in the evening.

eekwhatnow · 12/01/2025 07:13

Hello! Please can I join you? I was already a bit overweight but have let things go even further over the last six months as I've had some health issues. Mostly under control now and it feels like time to start trying a bit harder. I've also given up alcohol which makes me eat a lot.
I'm really inspired by some of your posts as I think in my head I believe weight loss not to be possible in real life. Thank you for the inspiration!

Goodafternoonmillie · 12/01/2025 10:32

yesterday ended up over calories again, I think the cold is just making me miserable and I ended up having some chocolate in the evening. Hey ho. Back to it today!!

usual breakfast smoothie
gado gado for lunch
spicy pork and rice (hairy bikers recipe)

we are moving house and yesterday I found and old workout DVD from 10 years ago or so. completed 25 mins of it this morning, but I didnt enjoy it at all!

happytobemrsg · 12/01/2025 11:19

I’ve gone up 0.4lb since yesterday. Out of interest I put my food in MFP & it was similar calories to the day before. The only difference was that I ate breakfast yesterday (porridge made with 100% oats, water & 1/2 mashed banana). Any ideas why??

Carbs attract water, for every 1g of carbs you consume you hold something like 3g of water, but this passes through as you burn it. This is why people go on very low carb diets because you hold less water and it looks like less on the scale.

Same calories on different days one with more carbs and more exercise you will hold more water in your body. Then you will wee or sweat it out, It’s not fat gain. Carbs don’t make you gain fat as a macro. Too many carbs can make you feel bloated for this reason.

Menu for today

Breakfast - small loaf toast, coco pops
Lunch - scrambled eggs on crumpets and a grilled tomato
Tea - jacket potatoes with ham and coleslaw

It's been a week since I had any sort of Coca Cola!! That in itself is a massive hurdle. There's six in the fridge and I don't even want one 😊

FaeryQueen · 12/01/2025 14:40

So far, hard boiled egg and salad with one slice of toast
Rather a lot of black coffee.

I have a ridiculous amount of beetroot in the fridge ( thanks veg box). It's roasting with some onions in the Remoska at the moment. I'm due to go out for the rest of the afternoon as soon as it's done so I'm hoping some inspiration on what to put with it will strike at some point.
