January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I'm not weighing myself yet this year as I'm sure I won't have lost. But I'm making baby steps towards healthier eating. Bit fed up with horrible ice and snow that mean I can't go walking outside, I have genetic brittle bones so don't want to risk any accidents outside.

B - Fried egg on toast, chilli oil
L - Instant noodles (didn't have time today, work too busy) an apple, a few cherry tomatoes
D - Spicy bean stew with peppers and chipolata sausages (pictured)
S - Choc protein mousse, Options hot choc

Accidentally had a bit of chocolate too but oh well!

@TheRealHousewife that dressing feels like it would be wonderfully sharp!

@GrannyInTheGarden I would second the recommendation for the happy scale app.

Reasonable day here. Lots of driving around this PM, but somewhat balanced out by an outside walk for an hour this morning. Freezing cold, but beautiful blue skies.

Definitely concentrating on eating more "proper" foods. I also finished off and threw away the "Christmas full fat mayo" bottle today. Not to be replaced for a while....

LegoTherapy · 09/01/2025 21:57

Note to self leave more than 3 hours between eating and core workout. I've ended up with indigestion 🤢 I've just read the epic series us not actually for true beginners like my wobblyness here but her beginners programme is on the app.

socks1107 · 09/01/2025 23:01

Tonight was a big test as I went out to a show with my daughter and dinner.
I planned what to eat and stuck to it and I had flavoured water not coke so I've come in 200 calories under. I'm hungry now but will head to bed when I get in as there's no reason to eat now!

happytobemrsg · 09/01/2025 23:12

A good food day for me today. I had my morning coffee, the rest of my broccoli salad from yesterday, 2 peanut butter crumpets & 2 corn crackers. No sweet treats! Lots of water & herbal teas too.

@LegoTherapy Ive downloaded the Happy Scale app & added my weight since end of June (had DS3 at the end of May). I do like some of the analysis it gives me but the data on the Renpho app is more detailed because it’s linked to my scales. Might be fun to use both!

Jaderz · 10/01/2025 07:55

This morning weigh in. Earlier this week I got to 67.6kg but it has gone up and down

SW: (original) 99kg
lowest ever weight (2024) 65kg
SW (2025) 69kg
CW: 67.8kg
GW: 63kg

4-5kg feels like a hard slog for some reason! I have until April in my mind as that’s the next time I am putting a bikini on

offthewagon234 · 10/01/2025 08:25

@Jaderz seems we are at pretty similar places! I started at 82kg got down to 64kg by late 2023 but am now back at around 68kg. I am aiming for 62kg as my final target weight and then to maintain! The last 4-5kg always feel really hard I think because the loss is much slower than the first several kgs.

Had an ok day yesterday, Cafe sandwich for lunch and a baked potato for dinner, not the most nutritious but no snacking so total calories was ok.
Todays plan
Lunch- chickpea fritter salad
Dinner- Homemade Pizza (I will do a small one for me)

I went to an early morning gym class (weights) and have a second one (yoga) booked for this evening.

socks1107 · 10/01/2025 08:28

I'm currently using a very cheap old way of weighing scales. Does anyone recommend a digital set? Something that links to my phone

Sparxdislike · 10/01/2025 09:40

I have soup prepped in the slow cooker and really enjoying overnight oats in the morning. Not sure what to have for dinner yet. The chilli posted looked yummy so may do that :)

Weekends are the hardest for me with lots of temptations. So going to try very hard and get some healthy alternatives in the cupboard.

Managing to avoid my normal evening snacks and having an options hot chocolate in the evenings.

Hope everyone else has a good day.

beezlebubnicky · 10/01/2025 09:50

@Sparxdislike You sound so determined, I love it! Soup is always a great weight loss staple, I should make some actually in this cold weather.

Sounds like everyone is doing really well!

Ended up facing my fear and weighing in late last night. Not as bad as I feared, only put on a few pounds. Finding it really hard to stay within my calories in this cold weather though, often find myself so hungry & going over by about 200.

SW: 11st 3lb
PW: 10st 8lb
CW: 10st 12lb

Today's menu:

B - Black cold brew iced coffee, flatbread with a bit of leftover bean stew & 2 chipolatas
L - Salad with various bits and pieces, nuts, cheese etc
D - Spinach, black eyed bean soup topped with chorizo, hunk of sourdough rye bread
S - Apple and vanilla Skyr, Babybel

afaloren · 10/01/2025 10:07

Hi I’d like to join. I’ve lost 4.5lb since the new year. Got over 100lb to lose.

Happy to see a non-judgemental thread here in this topic! Best of luck everyone!

TheRealHousewife · 10/01/2025 10:28

Good Morning You Lovely Lot!

I’m pleased to see so many of you here and showing total commitment! It isn’t uncommon for people to drop off the threads as we all know how tough it can be to change habits. So a massive well done 👏👏👏

Today I’m going to a batch of ‘minestrone’. I always add what I have available and try to get as much variety into the soup as possible.

Welcome to the thread @GrannyInTheGarden You’ve taken what will be a life altering first step! Well done! You can do this. One step at a time. I like your approach in breaking down your goal into smaller increments 👍 The last thing you want to do is overwhelm yourself.

@LegoTherapy Fabulous progress 👏👌🥳

@beezlebubnicky Your beef stew looks very tasty! 😋 To help mange the cold weather and avoid extra cals could you have a bouillon type drink which is tasty and hot for minimal calories?

Thank you @LemonDrizzle23 x

@socks1107 Well done on swerving the coke!

Menu
Meal 1 - Home made minestrone soup. GF cob.

Meal 2 - Bolognaise with buttered cabbage ribbons.

Tea, black coffee and water

I didn’t weigh on Wednesday as I have still been scoffing the Christmas goodies. However they are nearly all gone now so now eating much more healthily. Weighed this morning and have lost half a pound. Small start but at least it’s the right direction.

SW 11.9
CW 11.8.5

Goodafternoonmillie · 10/01/2025 11:11

I did a 20 min stretch before bed last night (caroline girvan one) after my extra snacking yesterday, but also really like doing a stretch before bed to signal to my brain its time to rest soon.

Today:
30 min dumbbell hiit (penny barnshaw) ✔️
B: Smoothie
L: last of the PB salad
D: homemade meatballs
everyone else will have meatballs in a ciabatta roll which is 👌🏻 but I will be having with side salad tonight.

well done everyone, hope you are all keeping warm 🥶

happytobemrsg · 10/01/2025 14:29

@socks1107 We use this one. I really like the app too: amzn.eu/d/c7nXcKc

happytobemrsg · 10/01/2025 14:36

Went to my usual yin yoga class today & there was a substitute teacher. It was amazing! Really good for my hips (born with hip dysplasia). She does online videos too so when I go back to work in May & cancel my DL membership I think I’ll sign up to her.

Today I’ve had a coffee, toasted bagel with butter & garlic scrambled eggs. No idea what to have as my lighter snack later. Our food shop gets delivered tomorrow night so there’s not much in the house to eat….

Can I please ask those of you who make their own soup… do you have any easy & filling recipes you can share? I have an unused small slow cooker if that helps.

Super 30 Spicy Minestrone Soup.

This looks so good!!

I skipped my run this morning as it was so icy but I did spend 1.5hrs taking a sledgehammer to our garage which is being torn down. It was so much fun and I was sweating! 😅

Fellsbells · 10/01/2025 15:53

Braved the scales today and I was up a few pounds, no surprises!

I ate well yesterday and today. Just about kept within calories. Today has been even better and a long wintery walk this morning will have done some good.

TheRealHousewife · 10/01/2025 16:05

@AnonymousMum37 That sounds so exciting! I'd love to take a sledgehammer to something. I bet it was very satisfying 😅

I’ve got a set from Eufy (can get them on Amazon).

I make it out of whatever is lurking in the fridge so we occasionally have some weird and wonderful ones. Most combinations work well.

One family favourite is veg and lentil. It's pretty substantial and based off a Turkish recipe I was given in Cappadocia years ago.

Quantities aren't critical so feel free to vary. I throw in what ever quantity of carrots/onions I have to hand and want to use up

This does enough for 4 portions

Splash of olive oil ( or use any cooking oil)
2 large onions
4 large carrots
2 cloves of garlic ( we love garlic so I put at least double this in)
Veg stock powder
Mug of orange lentils well rinsed
Mixed herbs
pinch of chilli ( if liked)
Squeeze of lemon juice
Salt and pepper
Water to cover

Fry up the vegetables until the onions just start to soften a bit. Add everything else except the lemon juice and simmer until veg is soft. You may need to add more water as lentils absorb a lot so keep an eye on it.

I then whizz up with my stick blender and add a squeeze of lemon. Add more water if too thick, reheat and boil a bit off if too thin.

It's virtually impossible to go wrong with this one unless you overdo the chilli ( only once -oops!)

This will work in the slow cooker - allow 5 hours or so and cut veg up small

Thank you SO MUCH! I’ve saved this to my phone. When you say to fry off the vegetables is that the carrots as well? Sounds yum! I just found this online so might give this a go as well as I have most of the ingredients already: www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/veggie_slow-cooker_curry_48226

I am trying to eat much bigger dinners to stop snacking.

Had a huge plate of red cabbage, broccoli, baked fish and some rice this evening
