January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Weighed myself this morning and I've lost half a pound so while it's not loads, it's the right direction 😊👍🏻

SW: 9st 11.75 lbs
CW: 9st 11.25lbs
GW: 9st

Today I've had coffee with oat milk and a slice of toast with butter, marmite and a fried egg for lunch! Dinner will be smoked haddock, potato wedges and peas - aim is not to snack but I will have a little chocolate after dinner as long as I'm within calories! Well done to everyone for losing or if not losing weight then not losing their motivation 😊👍🏻👍🏻

Checking in for WOW. I've been sulking all day but I'm here and going to carry on

SW - 10.4
CW - 10.4
GW - 9-9.7 ish

I've stayed on plan and counted every calorie but not lost an ounce. I now remember this is why I decided I wouldn't bother with the last stone. I'm in my 60's and 5ft so can only have a max of 1500 calories a day to maintain. I've had 1100 a day this week and nothing. I'll try drinking more water and stick at it till the end of the month. If nothing shifts, then I'll try 5:2 to 'shock' my body. Once my health improves I can do a bit of exercise but I can't at the moment.

I'll plod on.

justanotherboymum · 08/01/2025 19:32

I'm another who is a little disappointed but I'm not going to let it bother me as I'm proud that I have eaten healthily and exercised so even thought I'd have hoped to have lost more, my body will be thanking me for it 😀

SW: 82.1kg
CW: 81.9 kg
GW: 72kg

UnreadyEthel · 08/01/2025 19:59

Weighed myself this morning and have lost about 0.5kg in the last week :D

I’m away from home for work, so managed to have a swim in the hotel pool. Am about to order a chocolate brownie 🙃

AnonymousMum37 · 08/01/2025 20:03

Hi everyone. Ok day here I think. 1242 calories according to MFP. Training day at work so mostly sat down at a desk, only got 4000 steps so glad I ran yesterday!

SW: 176.6lb
CW: 172.6lb
TW: 154lb

I've put the next couple of days' meals into MFP already so that hopefully I won't stray too far from the plan.

LuckyMauveReader · 08/01/2025 20:25

Well done to those who have lost today - keep it up!

For those who haven't, I am one of those people who struggle to lose weight. I haven't weighed myself for this reason. Keep at it and you will get there. Just make sure that you are eating enough for your body.

I am doing the 16:8 IF. Today has been busy, and so I didn't get to have my last meal at my normal time—it was 4 hours late. What would you do in these circumstances going into tomorrow? I can't function without breakfast and hoped to go to the gym.

I haven't drank enough water but hopefully, I will make up for that before bed.

Despite this, I haven't snacked more than normal and did my yoga workout as soon as I woke up. So all things considered it hasn't been a bad day.

TealSloth · 08/01/2025 20:27

My tonight tea
Brown lentil and 2 boiled eggs

PatienceOfEngels · 08/01/2025 20:49

Realise that I never checked in last Wednesday!

SW (Oct 22) 77kg
SW (Jan 25) 72.7kg
CW 72.6kg 😂 -0.1kg - at least it's not a gain!
GW 68kg (healthy BMI, am 165cm)

Today hasn't been bad at all. I haven't been able to avoid a few cheese and biscuits most evenings though (have tonight 🎉).

Have a meeting with both sets of doctors tomorrow to discuss next steps and prognosis.

Midnightstar76 · 08/01/2025 20:51

Just checking in fast day today went well have not been swayed and proud I managed to do it. Still going strong with Red January some form of movement everyday. Did a yoga with Adrianne bedtime routine the other night and counted that one in. Also Dry January going good too. Honestly not missing that glass of red.

beconsistent23 · 08/01/2025 21:44

Hello all.
WoW for me today.
SW 94.2 kgs
CW 92.9
pleased as a getting back on track week for me - far from perfection.
hope you are all doing well.
belated Christmas party tonight - green salad starter and no dessert. Some red wine for balance!

YourBlueSquid · 08/01/2025 21:56

@happytobemrsg @legotherapy
Thank you both that is really lovely and helpful.
I have had a really tough day at work but have kept on track which is definitely not my usual way of being so I am now in bed and happy with myself.
I know I have a long journey but have to start somewhere.

Puffalicious · 08/01/2025 21:58

Well done everyone on WOW. Those disappointed, I feel you- I'm a slow loser. "Screw your courage to the sticking place & we'll not fail'. Now, I know Lady Macbeth was a bit of a psycho, but she had that right.

First day back at work today, wasn't as bad as you think it'll be- it's always the way (English teacher if you hadn't guessed 😉). Bonus was I was too busy to be hungry. After work is my danger time, but was prepped with 2 boiled eggs in the fridge 😋.

Just in from an hour's walk in -2. It's actually invigorating, & you burn more calories in the cold!

We can do this. 💪

socks1107 · 08/01/2025 22:00

After my disappointing weigh in I stuck at it today! Not one to quit and figure I'm maybe in a plateau after loosing last year.
Keeping focused...

SeekingTreasures · 08/01/2025 22:02

Well done to everyone who weighed in . Great for actually making that effort. And lovely for those whose efforts have paid off this week. I hope those who aren't satisfied will be happier next week.

I'm checking in after a tiring day at work. Feeling really hungry and wanting to gobble down something trashy. But, I've decided I need some new routines . So I'm going to try coming on here to read how everyone's doing whilst my evening meals cooking.

It's really hard not to jump in the fridge right now though. But, today I've made a lot of effort to stick to my plan and I really don't want to unravel that progress.

So, I'm going to carry on catching up ...

Hi @talkingdeadscot How very frustrating for you! Without meaning to sound like a stuck record … have you had your thyroid function checked? If sub-optimal it can stop or even reverse weight-loss. Also as we get older (I’m also early sixties) we can become insulin resistant (I am and manage it with diet) which can also make it harder to lose weight. Weight loss is definitely tougher as we get older but on balance healthy eating still has many benefits even if weight loss is slow. ❤️

OliveZebra · 08/01/2025 22:46

First weigh in since Christmas. I had been losing weight slowly for about 2 months before Christmas - but most of that has now been put back on 😅.

Current weight is 10 stone 12.5 and I’m 5’6.
Would like to get down to 10 stone.

No particular diet - just trying to snack less and eat more vegetables

cloudengel · 09/01/2025 05:29

Weighed myself yesterday morning, but didn't manage to update here until now.

88kg, so that's a 0.5kg loss. I'm happy with that, since I'm making small changes, and still eating when hungry.

I managed to drop my 8pm snack 3/7 days, and replace crumpets with a yoghurt for the other 3. Once I've dropped it completely, I'll work on eating breakfast after I've gotten ready for the day. Baby is feeding almost hourly again from 1am, so I'm absolutely ravenous at this point 😵

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 09/01/2025 07:06

My weight yesterday was:-

SW: 13.5 and a half stone
CW: 13 stone
GW: 11 stone

I posted a loss here earlier this week but this one is more accurate. On the downside at the start of the week I was ill with a vomiting bug so hardly eating much but back to “normal” diet and started with blueberries, porridge and skimmed milk for breakfast.

@OliveZebra that sounds good but what do you normally eat?

I glanced very briefly at a tv programme last night on diets and air fryers. Wasn’t interested!

cloudengel · 09/01/2025 07:22

Also, thank you everyone for the advice re post Christmas snacks still hanging around. We rationed open stuff out around the family in the afternoons, so we're just left with half a stollen and some unopened Lebkuchen. I can't donate them, as my husband would like to eat some, so we're rationing instead and I am working on my willpower

SW: 88.5kg
CW: 88kg
GW: 60kg

socks1107 · 09/01/2025 08:10

I was hoping yesterdays zero loss would be a blip on the scales. Today I've gone up 2kg. Unbelievable.
How much less am I supposed to eat! I'm on 1600 calories and I weigh 87-89kg at 5ft 4in.
I walk about 18k steps at least five days a week

Goodafternoonmillie · 09/01/2025 08:17

Yesterday came in @ 1429 calories.
Did not go for an evening walk as it was sleet/snowing - grim!!

Today:
Workout: 10 min arms/5 min abs/7 mins legs
B: Smoothie
L: Pearl Barley Salad (sorry I know its boring to read repeated menus but me writing out my daily plan helps me be accountable)
D: Chicken Fajitas

Well done everyone and keep going!!

Are you sure it’s not just water. When I lost all my weight I used a graph to show the overall loss over a long period of time and it pointed downwards but when I looked on a macro level day/week it was up and down and looked like nothing was happening. I also weigh daily and have gained 0.5kg today despite eating 1500 calories and low carb but I would expect by the end of this week or next to see a shift of some kind. The big losses you often see are initial water loss, the fat loss is slower and more cumulative. I know for me the last stone is the slowest and hardest to get off. Perhaps cut 50 calories from your daily allowance?

OnceMoreWithAttitude · 09/01/2025 08:41

I am drawing a veil over today’s weigh in.
Weight has fluctuated a lot, from 300g down after day 1 to 500g above starting weight, to now, 100g down on starting weight.

However:
Alcohol free nights: ✔️
Christmas sugary stuff gone ✔️
Bread kept at one thin slice a day ✔️
Water intake increased ✔️
Range of fruit and veg increased ✔️

So I have made healthy adjustments. And will restart gym classes this weekend 3.5 weeks after the accident that kept me sofa-bound.

So onwards, and recognising that I now need to take my calories down more.

LegoTherapy · 09/01/2025 08:44

Well I've gained a kilo since yesterday! I didn't even have a proper dinner. It just goes to show that the scales aren't always a good, erm, scale of how we are doing on a day to day basis. I know I haven't gained a kilo of fat or muscle since yesterday so it can only be water perhaps from the workouts.

Here's my happy scale graph for those bemoaning why weight loss isn't linear or as predictable as we'd like. You can see how I've seesawed around since hitting my goal. It went up after a cancer scare turned out to be nothing and I ate with wild abandon because life's too short. It's generally stable going up by a couple of kilos then back down again so I don't worry about it. Maintenance seems more tricky than loss at times but I like to keep an eye on things to make sure I'm not gaining too much. I eat what I like now but don't go mad because I can no longer eat large amounts like I used to thanks to these threads. I never eat salad massive or otherwise 😁but choices are usually healthier than when I started but I will eat a McDonald's or nearly a whole tub of Haagen Dazs or lots of chocolate or a big bag of popcorn if needs must. It's rare but from a weight point of view I don't worry about it. Do stress not, you've got this.
