January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Morning all! It's an Ice Day here with ds's school closed and Dd off due to it not being safe for her to get to school.

Well done on the losses but if you haven't lost anything don't give up, you've got this and some weeks are just like that.

WOW of 53.65kg or 8st 6lb. A loss of a pound since Monday but only 150g since the last WOW. I'm maintaining anyway so go up and down around 54-56kg.

@YourBlueSquid you are more than the numbers on the scale. They do not define you. You can do this. I really recommend Happy Scale and also weighing in kg because you can see the smaller increments and it gives the boost needed at times when feeling discouraged. Stick with us here and I'm pretty sure you'll find lots of solidarity.

IDareSay · 08/01/2025 09:51

Seriously over indulged over Christmas and New year, so not surprised by weigh-in this morning, though most of it will be 'fluff' due to too much sugar and wine! Hope to see that disappear quickly now I am following 16:8 and sticking to lower carb meals with more protein and veg.

SW: 72.5 kg
GW: 70 kg end January
GW: 65 kg end March (in time for weekend away)
GW: 60kg end October

The weekend away is a good motivation as at 65kg the majority of my clothes will fit much more comfortably. Long term goal of 60kg means everything I own will fit me which hasn't been the case for a long while!

under60kgbyJuly · 08/01/2025 10:04

First WOW and here's a really modest loss... but I'm glad it's any, as my weight has been all over the place this week, including above my starting point. So it goes.

SW: 63.4kg
CW: 63.2kg
TW: 60.0kg

My WOW shows I’m almost at my interim GW, so I’ve set a new one for end of Feb. On one hand I’m pleased that I’m losing. On the other, I don’t want to lose too quickly though as my body fat is already high (I started at 35.5%, and it’s currently still >34% I think!) so I’m desperate to lose body fat whilst maintaining muscle. From what I’ve read, I understand that that means I need to avoid crash diets, up my protein, and do regular strength-training (I’m starting with pilates, rather than weights…)

I’m Really struggling to get enough protein though! I’m aiming for 100-120g protein daily . However, I’ve not achieved that even once and my BEST day (protein-wise) was just under 80g protein but that was when I ate chicken breasts both for lunch and dinner which I don’t fancy doing too often!

How do you all cram in enough protein to your meals? I ate two eggs for breakfast (with other stuff) but that’s only 12.7g!

———————-

stats:
SW (mid-December): 67.7kg
current weight: 65.05kg
previous interim GW: 65kg
new interim GW: 62.5kg
’Easter’ GW: 60kg

NothingTraLaLa · 08/01/2025 10:38

Well done to all those weighing in today, whether you’ve lost or not - it won’t necessarily happen every week, but if you stick with it, you will lose over time.

I’m back on sensible eating which for me mainly consists of lots of fruit, veg, nuts, eggs, yoghurt, etc. for breakfast and lunch, and whatever is on the family meal plan in the evening (as I am in charge of the family meal plan, I have kept these reasonably healthy, but they do need to cater to everyone’s likes/dislikes which isn’t wholly straightforward).

SW 122.6 lbs
CW 121 lbs
TW 112 lbs

I am totally unable to follow a recipe!

I just take it as a basic guideline and add and remove ingredients. It usually works although I've had some awful disasters especially when baking!

Changed my mind as I remembered we had rice yesterday so I dragged some falafels out of the freezer and we had them with hummus and salad. I've been out dancing all evening so no chance to snack either.

Do you make your own falafel? The best falafel I have ever had was when I was in Tel Aviv, second best is from a food chain called Pilpel (it was started by an Israeli street food seller so makes sense!). I absolutely love proper falafel.

This thread is full of positive energy and it's great!
It will be my first WOW tomorrow after getting back into normal routine. I'm anticipating an increase due to my very sore and solid legs muscles after yesterday. I'm swearing with each step as I go downstairs! I keep thinking about having toned legs and grin and bear it. My arms are starting to ache now too. I've walked 25,709 steps/10.73 miles today which is a good day for me. It was mostly on slush and it was pretty dicey out there today. It's now completely frozen and there's no way we are even attempting the hills in the morning. It will be a massive ice slide. School might be closed anyway the head said at home time.

I hope all the wowers get good results in the morning but if not then remember it's not linear and staying the same or a slight gain isn't a negative. Slow and steady is the way forward.

A recommendation to the new posters: I use the Happy Scale app and it's great for tracking weight. It does some magic that evens out the little spikes so you get a more progressive picture. It monitors trends and gives you nice stats and goals that keep you going. It's a free app and I use it most days still. Highly recommended.

Well done on a great day everyone!

I use the Renpho app which links to my scales but I agree, having an app to track progress is so helpful!!

I made this tonight, and had it without the suggested crusty bread. Also substituted Greek yog for creme fraiche. But have they made a mistake with the calories? Surely half a can of cannellini beans, some salmon and a couple of spoons of yogurt (plus spinach, capers and onion) cannot be 715 cals?

https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/recipe/salmon-creamy-spinach-beans

(it was v nice)

It’s the creme fraiche. A tablespoon of that is 300 calories so you made a huge saving with that substitute.

Happy New Year everyone and thanks @TheRealHousewife for another thread! I'm slinking back after dropping off the December thread. Said I was going to eat healthily apart from the main days over Xmas but that went out the window. We move! I'm calorie counting using Nutracheck to log my food, which worked well for me back end of last year.

@Jaderz I feel the same re: winter and exercise, I have chronic pain & joint issues so I really struggle to get out when it's cold. I must try harder.

First day back on plan. Just been to the shop to stock up on my favourite healthy staples, and managed a few mins on treadmill today while catching up on my emails.

Today's food:

B - Large cold brew iced coffee, wasn't hungry
L - Spicy spring onion tuna melt, cucumber, baby plum toms
D - Pork chilli with peppers, Mexican rice
S - Vanilla Skyr yoghurt with chopped apple and dark choc chips (love this snack, high volume & low cal)

I hope we all start to see some slow progress over Jan and get back into routine a bit more.

That Skyr snack sounds lovely, do you happen to know the protein in it?

OnceMoreWithAttitude · 08/01/2025 11:19

On the subject of small losses (aka Gains in meeting our goals!) 250g / 200g loss is easily visualised as a pack of butter.

The equivalent of one pack of butter vanished from your waist (or wherever).

Probably boobs in my case, but that is a good reframing all the same - thank you!

Good Morning

WOW - Lost 2lbs 👍I’ve been on point all week so I feel it’s a just reward. Now to repeat 😬

@socks1107 Try not to be so hard on yourself. Weight loss can be tough especially if you don’t have much to lose until goal. I am the slowest loser, especially the last few lbs. I estimate if I hadn’t taken positive action 8 years ago I would definitely be in the morbidly obese category, I’d have high blood pressure and most probably type 2 diabetes (currently insulin resistant). Eating
healthy not only benefits your weight but also your wellbeing and general metabolic health. Try to keep going, without being punitive, you’ll make your mind and body very happy 😊 . If you give up now or in the near future you’re at risk at undoing all the progress you have made. Healthy eating is for life ❤️

Congratulations to all of you 🥳👌👍👏 Some fabulous progress being shared and even if your efforts haven’t been rewarded by the scale, by being present and accountable is all part of the process. Try to take a longer view of your progress and not just day to day. If your overall progress is downwards you’re winning 🥇 Keep going, it’s worth it!

Menu
Meal 1 - Halloumi stir fry.
Meal 2 - Spaghetti bolognaise. Grated Parmesan.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Hand weights.
Session 2 - Stretches.

I lost nothing. Absolutely nothing.
So so disappointed. I lost some of my weight last year so maybe I'm at a plateau but I can't be bothered now what's the point?
I said I'd give it until end of the month when wet go away and then I'm ordering mj when I get back and it looks like that's where I'm heading. I have even cut out my daily can of Coke and I still lost nothing.

I had this last year and it was really disheartening. Are you drinking enough? The second week I had a good loss so think it was water weight. I found tracking what I was eating helped as I think just pouring out and approximately measuring was a lot of extra calories. For example I was having 4 X the amount of oats for my porridge. 😬 whoops.

TealSloth · 08/01/2025 11:44

I weighed myself today I've gained 1 pound. Am not going to stop working hard. It does attend to go up and down but not giving up.

Did 10 minutes bike work out before bed

B musli, coffee
L banana, coffee, spinach and potatoes
T 2 toast, haddock fish, boiled vegetables

Need to get more cardio in.

No. I probably should. These were Gosh which are at least real food without any nasties.

Still 10st 12 here which is no change. Very disheartening as I have not been cheating. I haven’t had any real loss since November even though I didn’t gain any over Christmas when I was more relaxed about eating.

Wondering if a week of 800 a day will kick things off again as 1200 isn’t doing it and tbh I’m coming in at under that anyway. I’m not sure I can do that though

TerroristToddler · 08/01/2025 12:22

Have been on plan since Thur 2nd Jan, so not quite a week. I wanted to weigh on Wednesdays so weighed this morning - I've lost 0.6lbs, which is not the 1lb+ I was hoping for BUT when I sneaky weighed a day or so ago I had somehow actually gained 0.5lb from my start weight, so I'm hoping maybe my body is now getting used to the new diet and exercise regime and I might see a better loss next week.

SW - 139.4
CW - 138.8
GW - 125

I'll keep going! Meal plan today is heavily reliant on low-cal ready meals as I'm very busy, but should come in under cals:

B - porridge w/ small bit of oat milk (151 cals)
L - M&S cottage pie (336 cal) & banana (85 cals)
D - Coq au vin (338cal), dessert will be soya greek yog with chopped apple and honey (150cal)

Planning to do 30mins on treadmill (likely incline walking, as totally not feeling running today!) this afternoon between meetings.

Be kind to yourself @YourBlueSquid it’s a marathon not a sprint & you will get there. I’ve only just found what works for me - one main meal (pretty much whatever I fancy) & one much lighter meal, no snacking after 8pm (herbal teas instead).

It’s only one week @socks1107 you’ve got this! @Jaderz ’s kind post shows exactly how it can go up and down. Consistency is key & we’re here to support you. Keep going 💪🏻

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/01/2025 13:14

First WOW of the year 10st 10.75 lbs. I was hovering around 10st 7lbs for much of the later part of the year, so given it’s post Christmas and I’ve not really exercised for over a month, that is better than I was expecting after only 2 days of healthy eating.

Hopefully a full week of being healthier will make a difference next week. Well done to everyone will losses or positive mindsets, and virtual support to anyone feeling a bit deflated.

@FaeryQueen is it possible your calories are too low, so your body is in the mode of holding onto fat cells? Is it worth recalculating your TDEE etc. and seeing what calorie intake is recommended for loss?

happytobemrsg · 08/01/2025 13:34

Was extremely reluctant to weigh in today as I’m on day 2 of my period but I did it for research purposes 🧐

Completely surprised to report that since last Wednesday I’ve lost 1.2lb!! I’ve really stuck to the plan so I’m very happy 😆

SW: 10st 1.8lb (end July)
CW: 9st 4.6lb
Interim GW: 9st (end February)
GW: 8st 10lb (end May)

Goal weight is set for when I return to work after maternity leave. Before I start I want to buy some new clothes so I REALLY need to hit my goal weight by then.

So far today I’ve had my coffee & a charred broccoli & bulgur wheat salad.

Thankyou very much @TheRealHousewife

I have illness under active thyroid, Which because of loosing weight is even harder. But today because of you and sooo many wonderful ladies on here am determined I will loose something.
Am on thyroxine 100 mg. I've not lost any weight but gained this year I really need to work extra hard and have a clear mind to loose weight.

TheRealHousewife · 08/01/2025 13:41

You are very welcome @TealSloth! You're the same as me; I too have an under active thyroid which is medicated with thyroxine. There was a time recently where my weight loss went into reverse even though I was on plan; GP blood test showed my thyroxine wasn't at a higher enough dose so needed to be increased. If you have several weeks of no loss or even a gain and you know youve ate well it might be worth a trip to your GP 👍

They know, they told me to keep on taking meds its for life. To maintain my weight am going gym eating right try and eat under 1500 calories, I was on junk and crap but that has stopped, only been a week which didn't help. Need to change the way I eat and this is my main aim. My weight hasn't gone up since 2 years but it is steady. This year need it to go down. I am due for another check up which won't be tell Feb or March this year. Hoping to hear some good news. Last year they said its steady thyroid is on a good level. All down to my calorie intake and what I eat.

My current recommendation from all the calculators I've tried is 1200.

I'm 5' 8 and in my early 60s. I have a sedentary lifestyle in as I don't actually walk very far but the nature of the job (metalsmith) has me getting up and down constantly and requires some upper body strength so a reasonable degree of fitness nonetheless.

I'm wondering if this is my now natural weight and I should just accept it. I would really like to get back to an average size 10 ish though.
