January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

What type of exercise are you planning?

I am going to Pilates this week. I have a few items of basic home exercise equipment and I need to start using it again. I prefer walking but physically the cold really gets to me now after a big weight loss so even with thermals on I just find it miserable being out there. I need some vitamin D, I need some daylight! I work full time and it’s always dark before and after. I just get home late clean up and go to bed.
Spring time I find it much easier

SeekingTreasures · 07/01/2025 18:49

Checking in at the end of the day. Reading the thread and really hungry.
This is my worst time of the day. Not finished work yet. But, really trying to avoid temptations ...
Snacking at this time of day is a habit I want to get out of... Going for another cup of tea...

PatienceOfEngels · 07/01/2025 19:24

Checking back in.

Has been an okay day food wise, though my chocolate orange has taken a battering 😂

B - boiled egg, rye toast and butter, cup of black tea, 2 cups of coffee
S- pear and some cheese, cup of herbal tea
L- cheese, crackers and grapes
D- mashed potato with kale, bacon bits and smoked sausage with an obscene amount of mustard
S- aforementioned chocolate orange! Probably about half.

Relative in ICU has shown some improvement. DH and I feeling shattered from the whole experience.

Managed to get out for a walk this morning after school drop off which helps clear my head (and get my steps in). Also ticked a few work things and housework tasks off the list.

I hate the dark as well @Jaderz . I got in my pyjamas straight after my shower at 6pm tonight!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 07/01/2025 19:32

I hear you on the vitamin d @Jaderz I was able to go for a walk in some snowy hills last week after being stuck at home for days and it really lifted my soul!

professional grade gym at home sounds fab @happytobemrsg I much prefer working out at home (when I’m in an exercise rhythm) so much quicker than going to the gym (and I like to do Les mills classes so I don’t have to worry about finding the right class at the right time.

Having a good day so far. Double the amount of fibre than yesterday which I’m pleased about.

Puffalicious · 07/01/2025 19:45

I'm weighing on Tuesdays as it's my day off. First week, so probably water weight, but I'll take it- 3lbs off, which I'm delighted with. It's taken me into the next stone category, which is motivating.

I know I'll be a slow loser, as usual, but aiming for 1lb a week, so a stone by Easter is do-able.

I've stuck to no sugar and v low carb (only one piece of bread all week), with lots of protein & fibre. I kept to an average of 1200 calories on MFP.

My new plan to walk 45 minimum everyday is on track. I know it's basic exercise, but I need to start somewhere. Met a friend today for a long walk in a gorgeous, frosty, country park: scenery & good chat lifts the.mood!

SW 14 st 2lb
CW 13st 13lb
TW 11st 6 lb

2.5 stones to target, but I'm out of my misery & motivated. Thank you all you lovely peeps for helping me stop feeling sorry for myself & get started. Non scale win is that I've had no heart-burn since the healthy eating started 👍.

Good luck for WOW tomorrow everyone.

Jaderz · 07/01/2025 20:12

I would walk in the day but the early mornings and evenings are so so cold I find myself walking briskly with my eyes pouring down my face & steaming up my glasses so I can’t see anything, my ear ends up hurting from the cold air slapping me in the face and if I bundle up my face it adds to the steamed glasses. I can’t see without them and I don’t wear contacts. Then let’s not add in the chillblaines and Raynauds 😂. I really hate winter with a passion! My house isn’t very warm either so I am not even enticed to exercise indoors as I just want to roll myself in a duvet. I need it to be a few degrees warmer and I will be back out! Walking is a great exercise I love it and miss it

CornflowerBlueSky · 07/01/2025 20:15

Had a good two days, what is it about a Monday that puts you in the 'serious ' diet mode?? Walked for an hour yesterday, only managed 45mins today. Thought a stone had got in my trainer, even though after 4 stops, taking it off, turning my sock inside out etc and still couldn't locate it I finally noticed I had a blister as it was my first time wearing my new trainers..... Bought what I thought was a healthy brown bread I'd had before, only to realise it was a different one that had aubergine in it. Love aubergine but was dubious about it in bread.....wasn't great, a bit of a weird taste. I was eating it while talking to my daughter on the phone and I was telling her I didn't think I liked it, then looked down and I'd finished 2 slices. Honestly thought I must have dropped a slice on the floor. Couldn't have been that bad could it!

beezlebubnicky · 07/01/2025 21:01

Happy New Year everyone and thanks @TheRealHousewife for another thread! I'm slinking back after dropping off the December thread. Said I was going to eat healthily apart from the main days over Xmas but that went out the window. We move! I'm calorie counting using Nutracheck to log my food, which worked well for me back end of last year.

@Jaderz I feel the same re: winter and exercise, I have chronic pain & joint issues so I really struggle to get out when it's cold. I must try harder.

First day back on plan. Just been to the shop to stock up on my favourite healthy staples, and managed a few mins on treadmill today while catching up on my emails.

Today's food:

B - Large cold brew iced coffee, wasn't hungry
L - Spicy spring onion tuna melt, cucumber, baby plum toms
D - Pork chilli with peppers, Mexican rice
S - Vanilla Skyr yoghurt with chopped apple and dark choc chips (love this snack, high volume & low cal)

I hope we all start to see some slow progress over Jan and get back into routine a bit more.

LemonDrizzle23 · 07/01/2025 21:26

Decent day today - although it did include more homemade tiffin 😂

Managed to accidentally defrost a pot of beef stew instead of bolognese, so dinner was not quite as planned. Can't even remember when i made the stew, but it was very tasty!

10km bike ride at the gym and a bit of a walk.

First WOW for me tomorrow and I'll take it as a fresh starting point. First goal will be to lose 5% of my current body weight.

LuckyMauveReader · 07/01/2025 22:21

Had a quiet day at home due to being very tired. I have stuck to my eating plan and had my last meal at 4.30.

The 16:8 IF suits me which I didn't think it would.

Tomorrow will be better exercise-wise as I will do Yoga with Adrienne. Hopefully, I will get a lot of steps in tomorrow

Well done everyone for the first week!

FaeryQueen · 07/01/2025 23:01

happytobemrsg · 07/01/2025 14:18

It’s amazing how you can just put together meals like that based on whatever is in the fridge! I’m not a confident cook but have a keen interest 😂

Edited

I am totally unable to follow a recipe!

I just take it as a basic guideline and add and remove ingredients. It usually works although I've had some awful disasters especially when baking!

Changed my mind as I remembered we had rice yesterday so I dragged some falafels out of the freezer and we had them with hummus and salad. I've been out dancing all evening so no chance to snack either.

LegoTherapy · 07/01/2025 23:59

This thread is full of positive energy and it's great!
It will be my first WOW tomorrow after getting back into normal routine. I'm anticipating an increase due to my very sore and solid legs muscles after yesterday. I'm swearing with each step as I go downstairs! I keep thinking about having toned legs and grin and bear it. My arms are starting to ache now too. I've walked 25,709 steps/10.73 miles today which is a good day for me. It was mostly on slush and it was pretty dicey out there today. It's now completely frozen and there's no way we are even attempting the hills in the morning. It will be a massive ice slide. School might be closed anyway the head said at home time.

I hope all the wowers get good results in the morning but if not then remember it's not linear and staying the same or a slight gain isn't a negative. Slow and steady is the way forward.

A recommendation to the new posters: I use the Happy Scale app and it's great for tracking weight. It does some magic that evens out the little spikes so you get a more progressive picture. It monitors trends and gives you nice stats and goals that keep you going. It's a free app and I use it most days still. Highly recommended.

Well done on a great day everyone!

OnceMoreWithAttitude · 08/01/2025 00:24

I made this tonight, and had it without the suggested crusty bread. Also substituted Greek yog for creme fraiche. But have they made a mistake with the calories? Surely half a can of cannellini beans, some salmon and a couple of spoons of yogurt (plus spinach, capers and onion) cannot be 715 cals?

https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/recipe/salmon-creamy-spinach-beans

(it was v nice)

CornflowerBlueSky · 08/01/2025 05:12

WOW -1.2kg Very happy to see a loss, gives me motivation to carry on. Feeling better from eating good, whole foods, not mindlessly snacking and not drinking. Decided not to tell myself I am doing Dry January as then because I am not allowed something I want it all the more. Just taking it day by day.
SW 76.8kg / 12st 1lb
Cw 75.6kg / 11st 12lb

Good luck everyone xx

offthewagon234 · 08/01/2025 05:52

Morning all,
Not the best start to the day as I felt really ill and shaky after exercise class and ended up drinking a can of coke. Worked a treat though and I was back to feeling fine quickly.

Lunch - leftover chicken and veggie wrap filling
Dinner - I have a work event so will probably be canapes and wine, I’m going to drive myself so I can’t be tempted by more than one small glass.

YourBlueSquid · 08/01/2025 07:04

Morning , I have taken the scary step of weighing myself today and it is grim.
I know by experience that I have to start small or I will crash and give up and then weigh again in 6 months and be even heavier than now.
So for today I will plan my food for the whole day before I leave for work , drink more water and allow myself one snack.

My weight is making me miserable and really affecting how I feel about myself.

Good luck to everyone weighing in today.

SeekingTreasures · 08/01/2025 07:10

Morning,
Starting the day off pleased that I didn't lose track at the end of yesterday and had a reasonable meal at the right time. So, no snacking or sabotaging . Nice feeling to have right now.
Weighed in just done:
SW 77kg
CW 76,20kg
TL 0,80kg

Doesn't sound much. But, it's early days and I'm glad to have made this little shift.

My goal for the day:
No snacks when I get home from work.

All the best to each of you for your days

Skyglimmer · 08/01/2025 07:13

Morning all.

I did my weigh in on Monday as that is when I got back into it after Christmas. Only a 0.4kg gain from December so I am happy with that. Did walking pad Monday and today and went to the gym yesterday 😀

Sparxdislike · 08/01/2025 08:07

2.5kg lost! I'm so happy. I think most is probably water weight as week 1 but I'll take it :)

I found it scary weighing myself but I knew I had put on as clothes were tight. I'm hoping being on here will be a great support for myself and for everyone else.

New things I have done this week are overnight oats and using my soup maker a lot more. Little changes can make a big difference.

I hope you have a good week :)

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 08/01/2025 08:18

Congratulations on the losses! A modest start for me - 2lb loss. TBH whenever I have lost weigh it's been at the rate of a pound every other week or so, which means I need to be in this for the long hall.

Morning! First WOW of the year here. I'm up from November time after a foodie December and Christmas. But there you go. Fresh start!

SW: 94.1kg
CW: 94.1kg
5%: 89.5 kg

My next goal on Happy Scale is 92.8kg and 5% of my body weight will be 89.5kg, so those are my next two goals.

Good luck to everyone weighing in this morning!

socks1107 · 08/01/2025 09:10

I lost nothing. Absolutely nothing.
So so disappointed. I lost some of my weight last year so maybe I'm at a plateau but I can't be bothered now what's the point?
I said I'd give it until end of the month when wet go away and then I'm ordering mj when I get back and it looks like that's where I'm heading. I have even cut out my daily can of Coke and I still lost nothing.

CakeFace1234 · 08/01/2025 09:30

Sorry Socks. Very discouraging when that happens. I have spent years dieting so know how it feels.

SW 15.5
CW 14.12
W1 Loss 7 lb

Surprise, loss as I have not been as disciplined as I could be - still finishing Christmas chocolates and haven't gone to the gym. I am now querying if scales are accurate as my clothes feel as uncomfortable as ever. I will try to get to the gym later and weigh there. Either we need new batteries or perhaps it is losing excess gained weight and excess water from December?

I discovered I cannot fit into my bracelets any longer! That will also be a good marker for me, when I can comfortably fasten them again.

Jaderz · 08/01/2025 09:30

@socks1107 try not to be disheartened how long has it been since you have been trying? It’s only first week of Jan so I think we can have high expectations. I am losing and gaining water weight recently as I have had wild fluctuations of 2lbs for no apparent reasons although I assume I was just eating a carb heavy diet for 2 weeks and the water from this will take some time to go.

If it makes you feel any better I can share

8th Nov - stable weight
31st Dec - gained 6lbs since nov weigh in
3rd Jan - lost 2lbs
6th Jan - gained 2lbs
8th Jan - lost 2lbs
