January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

My friend asked me to make him a Biscoff cheesecake...

I'm doing intermittent fasting and it's not my eating window yet...do you have any idea how much willpower it took not to stick a spoon in the bowl to taste the topping (several times) 😂😂😂

I'm feeling very righteous right now!

I love making cheesecake but often taste test to adjust the recipe. This would be impossible for me so well done (also love biscoff).

We’ve got you @TealSloth!! I’ve given up crisps for January so I feel your pain but we can do this 💪🏻

I totally agree ive been traying since 4 years to let my bad habits go. It takes place when am down. When am resting in evenings when all my jobs are done. Or when I have that urge to binge due to bad day or when my anxiety kicks in due to being nervous over something which will be small but massive in my head. It's time I had stopped turning to junk and pull myself together.

LemonDrizzle23 · 06/01/2025 18:22

I feel your pain @jane46b My little DS said he wanted to try out his first ever cook book (Xmas present), as he'd had his eye on the satay noodles. When we came to cook today, he decided he wanted to make the chocolate tiffin instead 😭 The saving grace is that it's clearly made for children and came out very small, so I can't do too much damage. But it's haunting me from my cupboard top 😂

LuckyMauveReader · 06/01/2025 18:24

This week, I would like to reduce my coffee intake to 1 a day and maybe a flavoured green tea. I don't want to replace the small chocolate bar because now that is my only sweet treat.

I have made a shopping list to include more protein-rich foods, cutting out bread and also reducing the amount of meat I eat. Since changing my exercise habits I am far hungrier so I will have to increase to 3 meals per day as opposed to the two I've been having with a snack.

HappyLittleTreeFriend · 06/01/2025 18:42

The habit stacking is a great tip @happytobemrsg I've been meaning to read Atomic Habits, will have to get round to it! My day has gone okay, yoga done, had soup for lunch and will come in under calorie count if I stick to my planned dinner (chicken Kiev, potato wedges and sweetcorn) but I have snacked more than I would have liked, I had a random yoghurt and I ate some of my youngest DD's dinner leftovers, a habit I need to kick! Still, going well with everything else so far, staying under calorie count is a good achievement I think 🙂

TerroristToddler · 06/01/2025 18:52

Another day on plan in the bank!

Brek- Huel shake (1 scoop) on drive to work.
Lunch - big salad bar lunch at canteen
Dinner - 3 bean chilli and salad, followed by soya yog and fruit.

No workout today, but went for a long walk after work.

Well done to everyone!!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/01/2025 19:14

Day 1 of getting back on track for me, ahead of the Wednesday weigh in. Gone ok so far.

B - boiled egg, one slice toast
L - home made tomato and sweet potatoes soup, portion of cooked chicken, apple, multi pack size of wuavers
D - salmon, rice, steamed veg.
S - satsuma, handful of grapes.

exercise - did a Pilates style strength class at home. Easing myself back into exercise given I’ve done so little recently, and I need to build strength up in both a shoulder and a hip after some injuries. The plan I’ve chosen is a 30 minute class every other day, but I’m aiming to do some stretch or flexibility sessions on the rest days.

I’ve got 200 calories to play with so I’m likely to have something later as I’m very hungry after two weeks of festive food.

i really want to be better at fibre - any good low cal high fibre recipes or healthy snacks welcome!

beconsistent23 · 06/01/2025 19:25

You are all doing brilliantly - collecting great ideas from your posts. Having a good day here.
B - Greek yoghurt/ blueberries/ low sugar granola
L- mushroom frittata
D- aubergine/ chickpea bake
snacks - satsumas and one of the never ending stock of
mince pies.
Thinking about inclusion of fruit/veg instead of the exclusion of the crisps! Have a good evening.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/01/2025 19:46

Do you buy or make your low sugar granola @beconsistent23 ?

I bought it. It’s Bio & Me but that’s not my favourite. I like the Eat Natural one or Rude Health is okay too

@beconsistent23 thanks for asking the question. I was wondering the same too.
@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo and thanks for sharing. I'm going to have a look for some also.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/01/2025 19:58

Thanks @beconsistent23 I’m going to look out for those - I’m trying to mix up my breakfasts a bit but can’t be faffed with making granola, and also they’re high in fibre so tick dome boxes for me!

happytobemrsg · 06/01/2025 19:59

Other than my tuna salad sandwich & sharing an apple with DS, I’ve not had anything else. The treaded twitch has started.

Me too! The Eat Natural one better for fibre that Rude Health. Also greek yoghurt is the best.

TealSloth · 06/01/2025 20:04

Breakfast- musli coffee
Lunch- cheese sandwich
Tea- chicken and rice
No snacking today woohooo
Only need to get cardio in.

Andtheworldwentwhite · 06/01/2025 20:06

Did well with my food today. Was at the gym at 6am. Did some strength training. Then did some cardio this afternoon. Did have a few chocolates at my nans care home this afternoon.

LegoTherapy · 06/01/2025 20:09

I have porridge with chia seeds and a fuck ton of sugar or golden syrup, homemade bread toast with butter and raspberry jam, toasted muffin with butter, or Greek yogurt with berries or compote and honey and chia.

I don't count calories anymore. I haven't for a long time. I've found I don't need to now that I am eating better. If I do have a day or two where I eat more I don't stress because I know it balances out. I am at maintenance though so it's different from when I was calorie counting and trying to lose weight. The habits have stayed with me and that's been one of the best things about these threads. I ate so much junk and lied to myself about how many calories I was consuming and figured my thyroid was wonky or something 🙄 no, I was just chunky and eating far too much. It was quite an eye opener using my fitness pal those first few weeks I can tell you!

FaeryQueen · 06/01/2025 20:51

The gin club subscription I had for Christmas has arrived.

I don’t mind the gin ( that’s allowed for) but there are also delicious looking calorie packed treats with it. Dark chocolate covered peanut bars and fruity energy bars. Over 200 calories in just 3 bites.

I can get rid of them at the village larder tomorrow but I have to resist tonight. I’ve been eating to plan all day so don’t want to blow it now.

Looks sadly at cup of herbal tea…..

LBB2020 · 06/01/2025 21:01

Sounds like you have all got off to a great start!
First day back to work and routine for me today. Food hasn’t been too bad although I did slip up and have a handful of the children's leftover jelly sweets.
I’m going to try to stick to an eating window of 11am-7pm (although I will have my morning coffee with a splash of milk).
I’m giving up crisps and Pepsi max during the week in January, but if I fancy it I will allow myself a small bag of crisps and a small glass of Pepsi over the weekend. Hoping to get to the gym once or twice this week or if not the gym a YouTube video (steps were really poor today as WFH and didn’t even do the school run as DH was off work)

DivaRainbow · 06/01/2025 21:30

First day complete.

Breakfast- bacon, tomato on a skinny bagel- along with a cup of tea

Lunch- kiwi, chi seeds with skinny latte

Dinner- Baked potato and tuna with side salad.

Drank 1.5 litres of water and did 30mins walking on my walking pad.

Fasting started at 8pm after treating myself to an opinions hot chocolate

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/01/2025 21:58

I have to confess having a caramel freddo. But that is significantly less than the chocolate and festive food I’ve been eating over the last few weeks, so I’m not going to beat myself up!

LegoTherapy · 06/01/2025 22:03

STOP FEELING GUILTY!!! It's food, it's not a crime to eat it. Balance. It's all about balance. It makes me so sad to hear women beating themselves up for eating a small amount of chocolate. It's not going to undo your good work, it's not going to ruin everything. It's just food. It's not good or bad, it has no moral standing and makes no judgement on those who eat it so please don't make judgement on it. Life's too short and women need to stop doing this to themselves. It's ok to eat x

LegoTherapy · 06/01/2025 23:10

Just got into bed after bouncing on my ball while watching Playing Nice. I reached my target and feel quite proud of myself. My thighs are really aching after that workout this morning.
I ate 3 meals today alongside my last Fortnum and Mason biscuit.
B: homemade buttered toasted muffin and tea
S:tea and biscuit
L: roasted red pepper hummus and breadsticks and tea
D: spinach and ricotta lasagne
Plenty of water and walking.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/01/2025 23:15

No guilt here @LegoTherapy I meant it when I said I wasn’t going to beat myself up. It was more of a light hearted confession. Life is indeed far too short, thankfully I don’t have that kind of guilty relationship with food. I enjoyed my freddo. Caramel, I’d never had one before 😃

LegoTherapy · 07/01/2025 07:01

53.95kg this morning and stiff as a board. I've done day 2 of the EPIC workout and I definitely was not epic. Too many plank based exercises and I'm not good at planks. I did about 60% of it but I've said I'll go easier today otherwise I'll have a body that has seized up on shock by tomorrow. It's better than nothing anyway and I just keep focusing on looking better in my swimsuit.

We've got snow here again today. Will ds's school be open I wonder...I hope so but I'm worried about the big hill.

Have a great day everyone!
