January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

My legs are all quivery! I'm only just having my morning cup of tea. I've swapped my shower to before breakfast seeing as I got sweaty doing the workout. Leg day wasn't fun! I think I'd prefer a full body workout out. At least it's done and now the day will be spent walking and going up and down loft ladders putting away Christmas decorations.

Here's to a good week!

Goodafternoonmillie · 06/01/2025 08:46

Well done @LegoTherapy 💪🏻

Yesterday went well, 1434 calories in the end. And also did a 10 min yoga stretch before bed.

Today:
25 min hiit completed ✔️
B: Smoothie
L: Pearl Barley & Mozz salad
D: Chicken & Rice

I am liking keeping my daily streak on MFP up ⚡️

LemonDrizzle23 · 06/01/2025 09:21

Loving seeing everyone's dedication! We're still on Christmas holidays here 🫠 so not quite back to real life yet.

First WOW of the year for me will be Wednesday. Definitely put on a few over Christmas! Lost about 7kg on this thread last year, and aiming for more in 2025!

LegoTherapy · 06/01/2025 09:29

@LemonDrizzle23 I've gained some over Christmas too. I might hopefully have dropped by wow time but currently at 54.25kg. That's two kilos on since Christmas Eve. Lack of walking and eating cheese and crackers and chocolate will be the reason for that. It will go again. You did great last year and will no doubt smash it again this year.

I'm enjoying a cup of tea in peace now that the dc are at school. Bliss. We got to school early too with no cross words from anyone or stress. Long may it continue.

TheRealHousewife · 06/01/2025 09:34

Good Morning All

Hopefully everyone can get back into their normal routines now the festive period has ended. Anyone else feel it’s all over in a blink of an eye?

I’ve ate to plan this past week and I’m hoping to see a loss on WOW! I’ve also added small sessions of exercise into my day such as hand weights, stretches and general body exercises. I do feel they assist in keeping me on track and motivated although the actual amount I do is so small they won’t burn calories as such.

Menu
Meal 1 - Shredded chicken salad & gluten free seeded crackers.
Meal 2 - Salmon fillet, peas, broccoli, carrots. Might do a sauce.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Hand Weights
Session 2 - Short walking vid.

Welcome back and I'm sure you'll soon be on it. The bugs this year have been beastly!

Well done on your workout @LegoTherapy !

Just came back from my 45min yoga class. I’ve recently got into yin yoga (fewer poses but held for longer) but this was regular yoga. It was HARD. I was born with hip dysplasia so I know hip-focused yoga is good for me but boy that was tough. Felt more like a workout than my yin class or Yoga With Adriene videos. But I’ve done it 😁

Just had my once-a-day-only coffee (nespresso vaniglia which tastes like a custard cream biscuit). Now going to make my mail meal for today - tuna salad sandwich. I make it with wholemeal toast instead of normal bread. Yum 😋 Usually eat it with crisps (impossible to eat a sandwich without crisps) but since I’ve given them up for January I’ll somehow have to go without. This is uncharted territory 😂

DivaRainbow · 06/01/2025 14:29

Hi everyone,
Wondering if I can join.?

Today is my first day, I plan start cal counting, intermittented fasting and drinking more water.

Sw: 84Kg 😬
Gw-70kg

jane46b · 06/01/2025 14:58

My friend asked me to make him a Biscoff cheesecake...

I'm doing intermittent fasting and it's not my eating window yet...do you have any idea how much willpower it took not to stick a spoon in the bowl to taste the topping (several times) 😂😂😂

I'm feeling very righteous right now!

GrannyInTheGarden · 06/01/2025 15:14

Hello, I’d like to join in. Last year was hard going, and by October I’d pretty much given up. I’ve got some support now, and things are less bleak. I’ll be seventy this year, and want to establish better habits and not feel about ninety.

My goal is to lose one or two pounds weekly, go to check-ups, and take more exercise.

Welcome to the thread @DivaRainbow 👍

@jane46b You like to live on the edge of… making biscoff cheesecake 😋

@happytobemrsg Well done on getting the yoga done! Sounds like it was tough!

@GrannyInTheGarden Welcome! Have you tried reading Atomic Habits? It’s all about how to build new habits or breaking old ones. It’s very interesting. Might help!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 06/01/2025 16:24

I’ve tried to stick to my usual diet and only 2 biscuits today (could’ve passed on those). Am hoping I can keep this up all week fingers crossed.

Did have carrot and coriander soup and 1 slice toast with pro activ spread for lunch. So not my usual soup.

Didn’t have light rich tea biscuits after breakfast (habit) which I’m pleased about.

Just a tip, I find drinking green or fruit and other herb teas are just as good as water plus nicer to do in cold weather.

I do also have home made jellies I have for snacks (10-20 cals, mostly water).

justanotherboymum · 06/01/2025 16:34

@DivaRainbow welcome, you are a similar starting weight to me, feels daunting! I'm hoping to get down to 75kg as my first 'goal'.

Done well on diet today, no workout yet as have the kids but did do some kids workouts on YouTube with them, not sure that counts but I did have to take my jumper off haha maybe a few calories burnt 🤣 Going to try for another short YouTube one later when they are asleep if I still have any energy left by then 🤞

GrannyInTheGarden · 06/01/2025 16:36

@happytobemrsg I haven’t read that particular book, thanks for mentioning it. Is it a bit like Michael Moseley’s “Just One Thing”? First habit to stop would be calling in to the corner shop on the way back from school drop-off. And a habit to start is drink lots of redbush tea.

LegoTherapy · 06/01/2025 16:46

My legs are aching after this morning! I'm currently on 22,000 steps so a good first day back into things. I'll probably reach 25,000 by the time it's bedtime although I might go on my gym ball while I watch tv later so I might push for 30,000.
I've decided on spinach and ricotta lasagne leftovers for dinner tonight. I'll save the soup for tomorrow.

Welcome to all the new posters. You'll love it here 😃

happytobemrsg · 06/01/2025 16:46

@GrannyInTheGarden I’ve not read that one but one of the habit making strategies was to “habit stack” so add the new habit on to something you’re already doing. Like putting face cream next to your toothbrush you put it on every time you brush your teeth (sounds obvious but it helped me!). DH does it with his vitamins which he now regularly takes with his morning cup of tea. I have a coffee every morning so I put my probiotic yogurt next to the milk so I remember to take it while I’m waiting for my coffee.

I need to do something similar change my habits to something positive which will work. brilliant tip. 👍

Since 1 January I've not gone near any junk food I really want to keep it up. Thankyou to you and sooo many wonderful ladies its been a great support that I've stayed away from bad eating. Yesterday had 1 mini roll Cadbury cake, 1 rocky buiscut. Not any other junk. That's a big achievement for me. Again reading so many comments here it has helped me so much in my journey I feel the positive vibe every morning when I come on here. Thankyou every one. It gives me a big positive push and I look forward to reading these messages and comments it gives me that motivation every morning that am not on my own. I can do this. 💕💕💕🌹🌹🌹💙

happytobemrsg · 06/01/2025 17:41

We’ve got you @TealSloth!! I’ve given up crisps for January so I feel your pain but we can do this 💪🏻

LegoTherapy · 06/01/2025 17:58

Yes, I made the lasagne. Lasagne is one of my favourite things. I used to eat it with chips and salad but I didn't have either of those so had it on its own. I put a roasted red pepper in my sauce and blitzed it for extra veg. I used to make it with quorn mince and store bought pasta sauce but I don't eat those things now. My mindset has totally changed with these threads.

After reading that book I have managed to break a 30-year habit of drinking fizzy drinks. I like to understand the 'how' or the 'why'. I have done a few diets over the years and have never been able to break some of my habits. Although not excessively, James Clear explains why we behave the way we do with food.

I'm only 6 days in but I can say I don't even think about going out to buy a can of Coke. To say I'm impressed is an understatement. I may have one a week as I do enjoy the taste.

See if you can get it in your local library first. If you don't enjoy it or you don't find it useful, you won't have lost anything.
