Following on from LOSE IT! Awesome August

Drum roll please! Now it’s the time for an Autumn Re-set!

If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am idling around 9st 4lbs after having been hovering around 8st 12lb for several months. TIME FOR ACTION and get back on it! 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

I am in!

Not making much progress at the moment and seem to yoyo every time I have a moment of peak workload at school, unexpected stresses at home or a holiday. I eat when I'm stressed, bored, lonely. Aiming to be a little more consistent this month.

Keep up with:
-plenty of water
-no alcohol
-no caffeine after breakfast
-as many whole foods and home-made as possible, avoid UPF
-daily yoga (just starting my 3rd 30 day programme and loving practicing outside as the sun rises)

Get better at:
-daily journalling
-sticking to 12 hour eating window (no evening eating)
-10,000 steps a day
-taking time to relax away from my phone (watch a play, read, craft/draw, garden, do a puzzle)
-daily pelvic floor exercises
-clearing the clutter - it creates stress and despair!
-making plans with friends

Still heading towards my goal of 68kg. Was almost there in February but 4kg has crept back on.

SW 77kg (October 2023 - the summer before I was 79kg)
GW 68kg
CW 73kg

Autumn is my favourite season so looking forward to soups, stews, baking bread and fruit loaf, jumpers, boots and tights, winter walks in the woods, candles and snuggly blankets.

Am steadily doing an autumn clean. Found so much dust in DC rooms yesterday after pulling out beds and rugs, behind the TV unit and under the sofas too. Have bags in my boot that need putting in clothing bank or for the 2nd hand store. Going to tackle a bookcase this week.

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife

Happy September everyone! 🍁🍂

I really need to lose weight and I have decided that I am going to change my diet this month!! We went shopping yesterday and for teas we are going to have:
fish, potatoes and salad
spiced chicken, rice and vegetables
2 different types of curry made with Quorn quicken and rice
fish in butter sauce, potatoes or mash and tinned peas and carrots
I’ll have a look what we have in the fridge and cupboard to decide on the other 2 nights meals/or see if we need to shop again

For breakfast I will be having porridge everyday as it’s just easier to not have to think about it

I thought I had some slimfast in to have for lunches but it’s past the best before date so I’m not sure what I’m doing for lunches yet but I’m sure that there will be something in and if I keep it to 300 calories or less it should be okay 🤞 If all else fails I will just have porridge again 🤷‍♀️

For snacks/desserts I have got strawberries, pears, bananas and low calorie yogurts.

There will be no takeaways or fast food this month.

I am going to limit myself to one drink of Dr Pepper/Coke a day - I know that I should just stop drinking it altogether but I need to be realistic or it isn’t going to work.

I have to do this!!

Hi @PatienceOfEngels @Rhinohorn 👍👋.

@PatienceOfEngels There’s nothing like a good feckle; I find it very cathartic. Tidy home tidy mind works for me 🥰

@Rhinohorn Excellent plan you’ve outlined there! I find a good strategy for me is to also clean and close the kitchen after our last meal. It’s become one of my solid routines now. Can totally relax knowing chores finished for the day and the kitchen is prepped ready for morning service 😬

Cross posted @toofatwontfit Welcome to the thread 👍 A low cal high protein dessert I frequently make (other half NEEDS a pudding! 😅) is sugar free jelly made with part boiling water/part Greek yoghurt or cottage cheese 😋. Occasionally have a bit of whipped cream with it. If I have any berry’s in I will warm through & mesh through a sieve and add at the making up stage. Without the fresh cream topping it comes in at around 100 cals a serv. Just took a pic of the ones I’ve made today.

Happy September everyone! I haven't posted in a while as I've had just over two weeks off work which has been lovely. However, I am so looking forward to getting my son back to school and getting back into a routine! I have put on weight since I've been off work, but I was expecting that to be honest!! I'm weighing tomorrow morning.

I'm going back to the 5:2 diet. I also do the 16:8 diet, and I'm getting back into my Mediterranean diet which I do love. I want to be doing 10,000 steps a day, get off of my phone and get back into reading. Also wanting to do at least two early morning dog walks and at least two lots of yoga a week.

Good luck everyone! 🍂

TheRealHousewife · 01/09/2024 11:35

Welcome @rainbow616 Thats a great plan and 5:2 does work (Thank you Dr Michael Mosley 😢). I’m a Mediterranean diet fan too, it’s so tasty and satisfying.

Yes I’m in!

I had a strong 6 week period in June/ July following weight watchers. Got from 13 stone 6 to 12 stone 7. Then from the last week of July I’ve been on holiday and coming and going almost continually. I was doing quite well and keeping the weight fairly steady until our latest holiday (which came straight off the back of a two day conference) - 8 days in a motor home which rained almost constantly. So yeah, daily beers/ wine, too much pasta/ bread/ chocolate and not much fruit/ veg. A bit of stress eating in the mix for sure.

just stepped on the scales and it’s 13 stone 0.25 lbs. Some of this won’t be ‘real’ if I get back on track but a bit gutted to be half a stone up after two weeks. Going to try and get back in the grove but we’ve got another night away tomorrow before school starts on Weds so still feeling difficult to get it back under control

🤯

LegoTherapy · 01/09/2024 11:45

Morning all and welcome to September!
I'm starting the autumn month at 54.8kg and am quite happy with that. I trundle along maintaining a couple of kilos upwards of this usually but I'd like to stay below 55kg. My BMI is 20.9 but I have a lot of work to do to tone up. My belly is still a significant roll of fat sadly.

I'm not back to eating properly yet after the funeral and am a bit of a mess really but I'm hoping to make good choices and get back into porridge true breakfast, yogurt and berries for lunch and soup for dinner whilst trying to keep away for UPFs. I ate some sweets a couple of days ago and my stomach felt awful within a couple of minutes. I'll stick to chocolate.

The school run cometh and I'll be hitting between 5 and 10 miles per day of walking.
I should restart the weights routine and add in the rest of my body not just my arms.
I really want to be lights out at 10.30pm because my sleep pattern has been rubbish with me not sleeping much before 2am.

All in all I'm feeling rather melancholy today but I'm cheering you all on and know that you've got this. These threads are awesome and so supportive and non-judgemental. No-one is perfect, no-one has weird ideas about carbs, no-one is obsessed with protein or restricting calories to 800. I think we are all a sensible, realistic, supportive group who look at this from a health point of view as well as a how we look point of view but there's no vanity if that makes sense. We are the weight loss equivalent of a warming bowl of soup and crusty bread on an autumn day rather than some carrot sticks and a plate of lettuce deprivation and judgment type and I love that about this group. I hope all the newcomers find it as welcoming and supportive as I do. I think I'm 2 years on now and couldn't have done it without these threads.

@MsMarple as a repeat WW follower I’d say it definitely works but you need something alongside it to address the underlying issues around your relationship with food and your body. I’ve found the book The Last Diet helpful for this, or counselling or something if you can afford it! If you follow WW you’ll lose weight but the trouble comes when it’s hard to follow it for whatever reason or you lose your motivation. Good luck with your journey, I’m sure you can do it!

I'll be doing intermittent fasting as I do better when I'm not eating a big dinner. Everyone is back to work/school tomorrow so I can get back into a routine.
Ive taken inspiration from some other posters and will start on an autumn clean of the house, and try and get more daily movement going.

Fellsbells · 01/09/2024 14:14

Thank you @TheRealHousewife for the new thread.

Loved reading everyone’s introduction posts and thought there were some really helpful points and things that have helped me reflect about how I fuel my body.

I’ve learnt lots in the last month about what works for me. I feel healthy and strong, I’m at my goal weight after making nutritious food in sensible quantities my priority. This month I want to continue that, not let bad habits slip back in. Back to school will give me the freedom to exercise more, but that is just a bonus, you can’t outrun a bad diet.

Good luck everyone.

Caeneus · 01/09/2024 14:30

Hi all, I’m in.

I’ve been up and down over the last couple of years. Lost a stone at the beginning of 2023 and kept it off for a year, but half a stone has crept on in the last 6 months.

CW 11st 5lbs
GW 10st 5lbs

No sugar/snacking. I might try no alcohol. I don’t drink much but that should mean I don’t miss it and may as well see if it helps.

I strength train but have just (re)started couch to 5k as my cardio fitness is abysmal.

LemonDrizzle23 · 01/09/2024 14:40

Thank you for the September thread @TheRealHousewife ! Welcome to all newcomers.

I love @LegoTherapy 's description of this thread being the weight loss equivalent of a warm and nourishing bowl of soup. Very supportive and non judgy here!

We've just come back from the gym, followed by brunch out, where I had a very nice shakshouka. It is surprisingly hot here this afternoon and I've planned lamb shanks for dinner 🤦🏼‍♀️

Very pleased to be into September now. DS back to school on Wednesday and it always feels like a bit of a fresh start.

SkyeBlue28 · 01/09/2024 15:36

I’m going to join you all. It’s my first time on one of these threads.

In my early 20’s I lost about 2 stone with very minimal effort but now I m 38 and I know it won’t be so easy this time. Over the last few years I slowly put back on one stone after having two children and comfort eating and drinking too much wine after the death of my brother last year. When the scales hit 10 stone for the first time in 14 years I finally decided to make some changes!

I downloaded My Fitness Pal which gave me a calorie allowance of 1390 which at first I was sure I could not achieve and the first few days were very hard and I was soooo hungry. On day 5 I turned a corner and I’m finding it so much more manageable now. I just needed a few days to adjust.

my goal for now is to reach 9 stone 7 lbs and we’ll see from there. At the start of 2024 I had to buy all new jeans and leggings in a size up because nothing fit me. Now those jeans are feeling too tight so at the very least I want them to fit me again soon.

Sorry for the essay but I don’t feel comfortable talking about my weight IRL.

The last diet is sitting in my tbr pile! Loved her book The Kindness Methid. Maybe I need to plan self-help book time to my calendar!

Iamnotaloggrip · 01/09/2024 16:05

Hi all, I’d like to join. I too eat twice a day, skipping breakfast, and am trying to reduce UPF. Low carb where I can (I’m not actually too bothered about most main meal type carbs (even chips!) so this isn’t too difficult for me).

Wine, chocolate and cheese are my weaknesses - I got to a point not too long ago when I was having chocolate after every meal, and cut off chunks of cheese to eat while cooking - my kids even had a name for it - starter cheese 😳.

So that needs to stop. I exercise when I can - tends to be walking the kids to school (a mile uphill so it does actually feel like a bit of a workout!) and I go to a Pilates class weekly. Could do better though but, like PPs, I know I can’t outrun a bad diet.

Hoping this will keep me accountable and inspire me with lots of meal ideas!

HomemadeHallie · 01/09/2024 17:59

Hi please can I join.

Since having children I have lost 3 st but for the last year I have been fluctuating aroubd 10st. My goal is 9 st.

I am IF 16:8 and avoiding all processed/sugary foods. Usually do some sort of home workout in the morning and recently I have been doing a quick yoga stretch before bed too. Just need to keep it up!! Lets go team !!

LegoTherapy · 01/09/2024 18:28

I should get my Fitbit out ready for the dc going back to school. I really miss Fitbit bingo. That was so much fun. I've been wearing my normal watch all summer and have got used to wearing it instead of the Fitbit. School restarts on Tuesday and due to what I have planned I should hit 10 miles easily. The hills are going to be a killer this week.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/09/2024 18:36

Hello September thread! Thanks for setting it up @TheRealHousewife

Checking in, posting menus again from tomorrow for some much needed accountability.

RedBlackBlue · 01/09/2024 19:29

Hi.

Can I jump on board too! I need to do something about my weight.

Not sure on my starting weight, I will get a figure tomorrow morning. I plan to up my exercise and calorie count. I probably need to do some self help reading so I will look up the book mentioned above :)
