5 stone to lose - Anyhow that works for you - thread 3

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 08/05/2024 09:10

If you have (or had) more than 5 stone to lose and plan on doing so over many months in a reasonably sustainable way and would like to hang out with a supportive crowd this could well be the thread for you.

I took the title of the thread based on the previous threads some of us were on which turned out to be lovely supportive threads. With a mild edit to clarify no I'm not guaranteeing everyone will lose 5 stone in 6 months.

Super happy for anyone who likes the sound of this to join us. Weigh ins have typically been once a week on Monday. I generally prefer working in kilos because the maths is nice but stones are also perfectly fine.

General medical advice for most people is to aim to lose 1 - 2 pounds a week, or somewhere between 0.5 - 1kg. If you've quite a lot to lose a kilo (2.2lb) a week is perfectly healthy and sensible amount to aim for. That is a 1000 kcal deficit a day. = 26kg (4 stone in 6 months). This is clearly a VERY ask if your total daily energy expenditure is 2600 kcal than if it is 1600 kcal. This advice does rise up to 2-3 pounds a week or 1.5kg a week if you have a high BMI, (so e.g. the person below has an estimated total daily energy expenditure of 2591 so could quite sensibly aim to eat 1340 kcal a day) but do get medical advice if you aren't sure what a good target for you is.

Absolutely no pressure on anyone as to how fast you should be aiming to lose weight. I would like the priority always to be getting healthier bodies and healthier habits.

you can calculate your total daily energy expenditure with a site like this one

https://tdeecalculator.net/result.php?s=metric&g=female&age=49&kg=124&cm=168&act=1.375&f=1
Calories Needed for a 49 year old, 124 kg Female

Calories Needed for a 49 year old, 124 kg Female

A 49 year old female who is 124kg needs an estimated 2,591 calories per day

Thank you for setting this up! Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

Hi everyone. I'm still watching your successes on the previous thread but haven't commented as I have none of my own.

Congratulations all. Particularly @mondaytosunday you had some crazy losses.

I looked at the voy link from the previous thread. My understanding is that these make you feel really rough. I also looked at the results and even with this miracle drug it's 10kg in 3/6 months. I think my expectations are too high.

Bumblebeebum23 · 08/05/2024 13:14

Thank you for the new thread @stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk 😊

@TesticularHeft high expectations can be a problem when it leads to the failure to meet them sapping your resolve.

@stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk yes consider me sapped but fighting.

I'm @TesticularHeft but can't be arsed with namechanging for the next 1000 posts.

Thanks for the thread,@stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk 😀

Binge-eater here. Would love to lose five stone by the end of this year, but have just come out of a slump where I gained over a stone in a few weeks, so not very hopeful atm. Happy to lose 1-2 lbs each week, and not regain.

BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh · 08/05/2024 23:22

Just place marking for the new thread!

Bumblebeebum23 · 09/05/2024 07:45

Early weigh-in but just had to share that I am 12st 0.5lbs today, so I have officially lost 50lbs, and I have just scraped into the overweight BMI bracket 🥳 Now to keep going and move into the 11s 😊

Tibby2024 · 09/05/2024 07:55

Place marking going to start Monday.

Will update with start weight on Monday when I weigh myself but it's 17 stone something so I've got a way to go:/

I need to lose about 7 stone, aiming for 10 stone 7lbs to 11 stone will know when I get nearer.

Reading all the weightloss on here is very inspiring I wish I started in Jan though :( time flys by when you are not on a diet but seems every day goes so slow when dieting.

Nice to also have people with lots to loose or who had lots to lose I've found my people.

Popping in to tell my sister’s story. She lost 9 stone in 2 years, has kept it off for 5 now. In her late 50s. Noe bang in middle of normal BMI.

she said a switch went off I. Her head one day that she could do it. She tracked her calories, switched from a very carb heavy pudding filled diet to far more veg, slice of toast/bread (rather than whole tiger loaf) peanut butter, protein diet.

she also starting walking, slowly at first, 40 minutes at a time, gradually the 40 minutes took her further and further and she upped that to an hour. She is still walking an hour every day, and hill walks at weekends now. She does track calories any more but has got into a habit of knowing how much and what to eat for her size.

she inspired me and I’m 1.5 stone into 3 stone WeightLoss.

Yay, new thread! I'm having a pretty good week this week. The rain tried to spoil my last run, but since then it's been lovely and sunny so I'm really looking forward to going tonight.

HippyChickMama · 09/05/2024 10:10

Thanks for the new thread @stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk
I've been very quiet but still here, hope everyone is doing okay. I'm 3st exactly down since August, 3.5-4st left to go to get to target. I'm still tracking, still running and also fitting in a 3-5 mile hike every weekend. Am hoping to start swimming soon too

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 09/05/2024 14:05

3 stone is great @HippyChickMama I'm getting myself psyched up to do better after some dodgy weeks. Fresh thread, fresh start!

Hope everyone is having a good week!
Weigh in day for me today I lost a lb and a quarter.
SW 18st 9.5lb
CW 16st 5.25
Next mini goal is to lose the 2 and 3 quarter lbs so I'll have lost 2.5 stone. Still hoping to be in the 15s in 3 weeks time. Keep up the good work everyone and welcome to those that are just starting on their weight loss journey😊

Bunnyjo · 11/05/2024 12:44

Apologies for posting once and running last time. Life feels very hectic at the moment with work and kids; DD (16yo) awaiting an urgent operation being one of many worries we've had lately.

Still on the wagon though, and latest is:
SW 15st 6lb (26/2)
CW 13st 8lb (11/05)
TW1 12st 1lb (BMI <30)
TW2 10st 1lb (BMI <25)
TW3 9st (or as close to this as possible without looking ill).

I've lost 9lb in 6 weeks, so it's my weight loss has steadied to 1.5lb per week now.

Lovely to read everyone's updates, both inspiring and reassuring in equal measure. Good luck to those starting out and well done to everyone who has hit a mini or big target.

Kneenightmare · 11/05/2024 13:26

Can I join? I’m immobile currently but a second knee injury this year (now in both knees) convinced me that I really need to lose weight to speed up my rehabilitation a reduce the impact on my poor knees and to get mobile again.
SW 17 stone 3 (20 April)
CW 16 stone 10
TW 11 stone

Im trying to stick to 1700 calories a day. Weight loss is much slower than it has been before but I’m older and not walking at all currently so I’m trying to be patient and stick with it.

BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh · 11/05/2024 16:05

A few non-scale victories from me today-

I’m no longer afraid of chairs with arms. Went to a cafe for lunch and sat outside on patio type woven chairs with arms and there was so much room either side.

Realised today that when I’m walking/standing and I look down, I can’t see my stomach at all. At one point, my belly stuck out further than my boobs but not anymore.

I’m in a hotel and the bathrobe not only fits but is roomy! I might spend the rest of my weekend in it 🤣
