5 stone to lose - Anyhow that works for you - thread 3

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 08/05/2024 09:10

If you have (or had) more than 5 stone to lose and plan on doing so over many months in a reasonably sustainable way and would like to hang out with a supportive crowd this could well be the thread for you.

I took the title of the thread based on the previous threads some of us were on which turned out to be lovely supportive threads. With a mild edit to clarify no I'm not guaranteeing everyone will lose 5 stone in 6 months.

Super happy for anyone who likes the sound of this to join us. Weigh ins have typically been once a week on Monday. I generally prefer working in kilos because the maths is nice but stones are also perfectly fine.

General medical advice for most people is to aim to lose 1 - 2 pounds a week, or somewhere between 0.5 - 1kg. If you've quite a lot to lose a kilo (2.2lb) a week is perfectly healthy and sensible amount to aim for. That is a 1000 kcal deficit a day. = 26kg (4 stone in 6 months). This is clearly a VERY ask if your total daily energy expenditure is 2600 kcal than if it is 1600 kcal. This advice does rise up to 2-3 pounds a week or 1.5kg a week if you have a high BMI, (so e.g. the person below has an estimated total daily energy expenditure of 2591 so could quite sensibly aim to eat 1340 kcal a day) but do get medical advice if you aren't sure what a good target for you is.

Absolutely no pressure on anyone as to how fast you should be aiming to lose weight. I would like the priority always to be getting healthier bodies and healthier habits.

you can calculate your total daily energy expenditure with a site like this one

https://tdeecalculator.net/result.php?s=metric&g=female&age=49&kg=124&cm=168&act=1.375&f=1
Calories Needed for a 49 year old, 124 kg Female

Calories Needed for a 49 year old, 124 kg Female

A 49 year old female who is 124kg needs an estimated 2,591 calories per day

Hello everyone, please can I join you? My weight and not having done anything about it for so long literally kept me awake last night. I feel so sort of foolish and embarrassed to have done this to myself, if anyone recognises that feeling?

Anyway, so from today and tomorrow I have a plan, which is this:

I'm going to do the Blood Sugar Diet for about 8 weeks ish
Because I need a quick result to start with
I have written myself a long letter today about why I want to lose weight
Also what I'm looking forward to about it once I've lost the weight
How I'm going to do it, including "posting on a good mumsnet thread"

My downfall is bread, butter, chicken skin, roast potatoes, cheese, toast and wine. I don't particularly have a sweet tooth so I reckon I can cut sugar fairly easily. Aggggh, it SHOULD be doable but somehow I've just not done it and have accidentally been fucking fat for about 20 years. It's ridiculous! But now it stops. I will miss wine, I love wine, but I really want to be thinner, so it has to go, mostly. I am going to build in the odd cheat day though.

Welcome!
I definitely recognise a lot of what you said, especially that feeling of turning around and realising in the blink of an eye that you've spent years not where you want to be.
Mindset shift is the hardest bit IMHO and it sounds like you're in a really good head space now.
Best of luck and lean on this thread if you need to - it's been so helpful and supportive for me.

Hi all, I haven't posted for ages because I have just returned from 3 weeks in Australia (which was part of the reason I started my weight loss journey over a year ago!). My sister's wedding was amazing and I felt confident and (dare I say it!) beautiful in my dress.

I have managed to pretty much maintain whilst away (slight gain but nothing major) which I am pleased about. However, back on it properly from today 😊

Start weight: 15st 9lbs
Current weight: 11st 12lbs
Target: 10st

TheStroppyFeminist · 28/08/2024 11:41

Wow @Bumblebeebum23 , that's an amazing loss.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the thread.

I need to do some final preparation before I go for it fully. I need to throw away the bread that's still in the house and the wine needs to go, I have 2 open bottles I need to pour away. But on the bright side, I didn't drink any wine last night and slept amazingly well as a result. And I've re-read the Blood Sugar Diet book and booked an online shop for Friday, I just need to meal plan for the next week or so and amend my shop and then I am good to go. I might even put the toaster and breadbin in the garage tbh.

Today I have had toast x 2 and a piece of shortbread so not ideal but like I said, I need to rid my house of stuff before I can fully commit to this. No wine is still a win though.

I’ve lost 1kg/just over 2lbs this week for a total of 50kg/7st 12lbs since the start of August 2023.

Very excited about hitting 8st loss, hopefully over the coming weeks. I’ve never been able to lose more than 4st before.

Bought a pair of size 16 trousers this week. To be fair, they’re a baggy, floaty fit and I wouldn’t get into size 16 jeans, but I’m happy with my trousers. It’s been well over 25 years since I’ve been in a 16.

Last week, someone I know well walked past me, did a double take and came back saying they hadn’t recognised me. I cried 🥹

I’ve bagged up 8 huge black sacks full of clothes. They’re mainly sizes 26 and 28 and I’m too embarrassed to bring them to a charity shops (plus I don’t know if they have demand at those sizes or if they just take up space) but need to decide what to do with them. Plenty is fit for only the bin as I was rewearing things constantly.

13kg/2st left to go.

Bumblebeebum23 · 28/08/2024 22:25

Thank you @TheStroppyFeminist it's been slow and steady, but I definitely feel better for it x

89redballoons · 29/08/2024 07:38

First week and I am down 5lb Smile clearly that's mostly water but it is still encouraging to see, especially considering that yesterday I passed an exam and celebrated with lunch from a street food market near my work - but it was tofu and vegetable stir fry noodles, so while definitely oily and fairly carb heavy, it didn't massively blow me off course.

Other than that, I've been sticking to around 900/1,000 calories, but not counting fruit or non-starchy vegetables, so in reality it's likely to be around 1,200 - 1,400 calories a day. I find this stops me getting obsessive and motivates me to fill up on salad and fruit. I have also not had any alcohol for the last week, no bread, no pasta, and only brown rice.

Just under 6 weeks until my birthday, and feels like I should be able to keep this up until then and hopefully shift a further 9lbs in that time, so that I'll have lost a stone Smile

TheStroppyFeminist · 29/08/2024 10:30

Wow @BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh , that's amazing, incredible loss. 8 stone is absolutely astounding. You must feel so happy!

I am still slowly getting rid of crap food that's in the house so I've thrown out 2 open bottles of wine this morning, they were probably horrible anyway as they'd been in the fridge a few days. There is still bread but once that's finished I won't eat any more. I'm on day 2 of not drinking and feel pretty good for that so far, I'm not going to drink until 6th October then I will have some wine but will just count it into my calories.

I need to add to my online shop today so I'm thinking next weeks food will be

Butternut squash soup on at least 2 days
Trout with horseradish and creme fraiche and salad a couple of days
Lots of salads with chicken breast

And I need a couple more things from the blood sugar diet book so that's my lunchtime sorted, amending my online shop and adding stuff.

whatthejuice · 30/08/2024 08:19

Omg some of these losses are staggering! Well done to you all, you're amazing!
I've not posted for a couple of weeks, summer holidays are getting to me now 🙃
In the last 2 weeks I've lost 3lbs which I'm very happy with. My losses have definitely slowed up but that's to be expected. I've been committed to this weight loss for nearly 5.5 months now, so it's inevitable. I am 1lb away from a 60lb loss, so I'm really hoping I can hit that by next Friday.
I've got the last of our big summer dos tomorrow, and then everything calms down with the social stuff. That, coupled with the kids back at school, will hopefully mean I can get into more of a consistent exercise regime again. That has definitely fallen off the radar since school hols started!!

Numbers this week -

SW - 18 st 10lbs
CW - 14 st 7lbs
GW - 12 st

Have a good week all x

Whale80ne · 31/08/2024 12:54

BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh wow well done, and well done everyone!

I wasn't on the thread especially long before I disappeared 😳 been on holiday from work and away a couple of times and put 3kg on in 3 weeks BUT lost it again in three days 🤣 so it was definitely bloat! I'm exactly where I was three and a bit weeks ago, which is fine.

Highest weight ever in June 2020: 119kg
Lowest weight since starting to lose weight (August 2022): 70kg
Highest regain since losing the weight : 90kg
Current weight: 86 kg

Would like to get back under 80kg by the end of the year, even if only just.

Bumblebeebum23 · 04/09/2024 07:38

Well done all. Some amazing losses!

I'm going to make Wednesday my official weigh-in day now (as that's when I weighed in last week. 1.5 lbs down this week. Not bad considering I haven't been particularly focussed this week.

Start weight: 15st 9lbs

Current weight: 11st 10.5lbs

Goal Weight: 10st

Going to try and be "on it" this week before my birthday celebrations ensue next Thurs!

TheStroppyFeminist · 05/09/2024 11:45

Hi everyone. Wow, everyone is doing so well. I've finally got rid of all the crap and sugar in the house so have been doing well the past ten days or so. No booze, lots of sleep, multi vitamins, I'm feeling good. Weigh in tomorrow so we'll see if it's had any effect.

BaublesRocking · 05/09/2024 21:01

So inspiring to see the losses on this thread, I've read the last few pages.

I joined nutracheck 3 days ago and am doing well and sticking to the calories it recommended (1950). That website above says 1,861 a day though. Have never tried to lose weight before except a brief pointless dally with slimming world in which I lost, then regained, a stone in a month.

SW is 21.3 stone 😞

TheStroppyFeminist · 06/09/2024 12:45

I have lost 7.7lbs in about a week, well, 10 days of no booze but I've only been doing the blood sugar diet for 7 days so I'm really happy with that, it's a good start and is going to keep me motivated. Only another 6 stone or something to go!

BaublesRocking · 08/09/2024 16:01

Weighed today and in week 1 of calorie counting I've lost 5lb 😎

whatthejuice · 13/09/2024 05:59

Well done, everyone, on the last couple of weeks since I posted. Some amazing starts and very inspiring "still here" posts.
This cold weather has made me crave stodgier food, I'm not going to lie, but I've still been able to stick within my calorie goal.
I'm 5 days away from 6 months on this journey - I've not stuck at anything this long ever!!! - and I'm very happy to say I've now reached my 60lb weight loss. It feels hard to compute in a way, but I do now look at photos and can see I look very different. My next mini goal is to get under 200 lbs for the first time in 4 years. No pressure on when, but I will definitely do a little happy dance when it happens.
I'm enjoying not drinking any alcohol at the moment after quite a bit of rosé. I do have a big celebration coming up next weekend and then another early October, so I'm just going to enjoy those when they come around and keep no/low alcohol the rest of the time 💖

SW: 18 stone 10lbs
CW: 14 stone 5.5lbs
GW: 12 stone

BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh · 13/09/2024 08:48

Well done to all for the fabulous recent losses.

I’ve lost another kilo so a total of 51kgs down meaning I’ve hit the 8st mark.

12kgs to go to target.

Going on holiday tomorrow and a bit worried about gains but let’s see what happens.

MangoLove · 13/09/2024 11:04

Hi all, this seems like a lovely group to join - if you don't mind?

Overall, the GP would say I need to lose 24kg to be at the top end of a healthy BMI. I'd be really happy with 14kg and then see what happens from there.

I'm 5'5 and as at Sept 1st weighed in at 89.1kg

SW 89.1kg HW: 98kg CW: 86.7kg GW: 75kg (80 initially and then 75)

I'm an all or nothing - So I'm walking loads, IF and calorie counting. So far its done me good, although I know that it will slow down.

01/09 - 89.1 09/09 - 88.2
(down 0.9kg on last week - weigh in again on 16/09)

whatthejuice · 27/09/2024 07:04

Welcome @mangolove hope it's all going well for you.
It's been a couple of weeks since I last posted, hope everyone's been OK.
I've been finding the back to school routine really helpful to keeping to a good routine with my food. I've lost another 3.5lbs in the last 2 weeks so nice and consistent. I'm now under 200lbs for the first time since pre covid. I know "onderland" is a big deal online (especially with American weight loss accounts) so I'm taking that as a mini victory!!
I'm hoping to get under 14 stone in the next couple of weeks, as that will mean I'll be less than 2 stone away from my goal weight, which sounds really manageable given where I started 😀

Numbers -
SW - 18 stone 10lbs
CW - 14 stone 2lbs
GW - 12 stone

Have a great week everyone xx
