5 stone to lose - Anyhow that works for you - thread 3

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 08/05/2024 09:10

If you have (or had) more than 5 stone to lose and plan on doing so over many months in a reasonably sustainable way and would like to hang out with a supportive crowd this could well be the thread for you.

I took the title of the thread based on the previous threads some of us were on which turned out to be lovely supportive threads. With a mild edit to clarify no I'm not guaranteeing everyone will lose 5 stone in 6 months.

Super happy for anyone who likes the sound of this to join us. Weigh ins have typically been once a week on Monday. I generally prefer working in kilos because the maths is nice but stones are also perfectly fine.

General medical advice for most people is to aim to lose 1 - 2 pounds a week, or somewhere between 0.5 - 1kg. If you've quite a lot to lose a kilo (2.2lb) a week is perfectly healthy and sensible amount to aim for. That is a 1000 kcal deficit a day. = 26kg (4 stone in 6 months). This is clearly a VERY ask if your total daily energy expenditure is 2600 kcal than if it is 1600 kcal. This advice does rise up to 2-3 pounds a week or 1.5kg a week if you have a high BMI, (so e.g. the person below has an estimated total daily energy expenditure of 2591 so could quite sensibly aim to eat 1340 kcal a day) but do get medical advice if you aren't sure what a good target for you is.

Absolutely no pressure on anyone as to how fast you should be aiming to lose weight. I would like the priority always to be getting healthier bodies and healthier habits.

you can calculate your total daily energy expenditure with a site like this one

May I join you please? I’ve been trying to lose 10 stone for about 5 years. Classic yo yo-er.
I’ve 5 stone to lose as of now, and this time I’m not taking my foot off the gas until I get there.
I’m using Noom for the first time which I hope will give me some tools and I’m going to pay attention to water and exercise and stress instead of just calories.

whatthejuice · 25/05/2024 06:28

I'm off on holiday today so I've weighed a day early. A little under 1.5 lbs off which I'm very happy with, after 2 weeks of bigger losses.

I'm a bit nervous about going away. Obviously I'll have a good time with the family but I've been in a really good place with my nutrition and exercise. I don't want to be swayed off track. I will probably end up doing more walking etc...than I normally do. But I'm also sure there'll be a lot of eating out and "oh, just have one of these" etc...

If I come back and I've maintained I'll be really happy with that.

I'm 5.5 lbs off being in the 15s so that's my focus over the next few weeks.

Here are my numbers:

SW: 262 lbs
CW: 229 lbs
GW: 168 lbs

Total weight loss so far: 33lbs

Bumblebeebum23 · 25/05/2024 08:11

Weighing in early as I'm away for the bank holiday weekend.

12st 0.5lbs this morning, so still hovering just over the 11s bracket but 0.5lbs off since Monday. Hoping to maintain over the weekend and get back on it properly over half term.

I've signed up to walk 300,000 steps for charity in June so hoping that will help me lose a bit more before I go to Australia in Aug

We are looking at booking a holiday for mid June. My worst nightmare as we will be by the pool or at the beach. I will spend the whole thinking I should have pulled my finger out a long time ago and you can't polish a turd etc. I don't want people to be looking at my Adonis like partner and thinking why is he with her and embarrassing him. I deserve better and so does he.

I'm going to go shopping for sarong type beachwear and long dresses with cycling shorts underneath for the thigh rub.

Every summer these are my thoughts. Fingers crossed this is the last bloody one.

DuckWithOneWing · 25/05/2024 09:10

Early weigh in today looks like I'll definitely meet my Monday target so I'm really pleased. And yesterday I managed to run for 2 miles without stopping! I've been doing the couch to 5k plan and am getting towards the end, but I'm slower than the plan seems to think I should be. The plan seems to think you can run 5k (just over 3 miles) in 30 minutes, whereas my 2 miles took 35. I'm really pleased because a few weeks ago I found the 60 second runs in week 1 hard.

LemonTurdCart · 25/05/2024 10:12

@DuckWithOneWing thats amazing to go from running 60 secs at a time to 35 mins in a few weeks! Well done
Don’t worry about the distance - I wonder if the plan was written by/for a tall man with enormous strides?

Gabriella83 · 25/05/2024 11:05

Weigh day for me today. I lost 3 quarters of a lb.
SW 18st 9.5lb
CW 16st 3lb
I'm off work this week and we have 3 days away. Just hoping to maintain and any loss will be a bonus. I'm not optimistic my period is due too. Well done on your losses everyone! Hope you all have a good week.

mondaytosunday · 27/05/2024 10:52

@CommeUneVacheEspagnole heard good things about anti chaffing shorts at Tesco.
So weigh in today and thank goodness things starting to shift again! I'm eating homemade cabbage soup three lunches a week (I eat twice a day, lunch and dinner) which is about 300 calories less than my normal lunch. So lost 1.8kg this week which is almost 4lbs, that brings my total to 10.8kg (23.7lbs) in seven weeks.
Holiday four weeks from tomorrow- ideally want to lose 8kg, which is unlikely😟! I've bought a Shapely bodysuit, which gives absolutely no support to the chest so will still have to wear a bra, but does make my hips a couple inches smaller. Don't like the sound it makes walking though. Anyone have any suggestions for smooth shaping shorts?

RE: the young slim hot version of myself

I was (to some extent) the problem was I really didn't feel it at the time

The plan seems to think you can run 5k (just over 3 miles) in 30 minutes,

I was at a school that did an annual 5k 'fun' run for a couple of thousand people. Skinny fit people who ran for a hobby could make it somewhere in in the 35-45 minute category. Anything under an hour was considered really good.

I did a ParkRun recently, and the fastest people were around 17-20 minutes. I walked most of the way and managed 52 minutes. The annoying thing is that it was a 3 lap course, and so some people were finishing the whole thing just as I was starting my second lap!

I'm going again this Saturday with the aim of running the whole way. Not sure if this is doable, as it's a mile more than I've run so far, but I'm going to try.

I am really annoyed this morning. My aim was to be under 100kg at this week's weigh in, and on Saturday I was exactly 100.0 according to my scales. I did 10,000 steps yesterday and have stuck to my calories. So today I scored 100.1 😡

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 27/05/2024 11:41

Fair point @DuckWithOneWing 2 things I think explain the difference 1) people used to running 5k and 2) laps around a park are faster than 'cross country' style where you have to stop to cross roads safely etc.

Weigh-in this morning and 1 kg down so now at 42kg/6st 8lbs lost.

Woohoo!

Still have a way to go though- feels like I’m still climbing that mountain.

Weigh in...

SW not sure... somewhere around 22+ stone
GW 11stone
First Goal 17stone
CW 18 stone 11
Lost this week 2lb

I spent some time today trying on my various clothes that I've kept over the years that I know I last fit in x years ago. Some things are so big on me they look ridiculous now. I think I've lost about four stone, but it's complicated because I didn't weigh at all for the first month-ish, then had the scale debacle.... So the clothes are giving me confidence that I HAVE lost a significant amount of weight.

Something I've noticed since the last time I lost weight is that people don't comment on it these days. A good thing generally... but I'd like some external validation!

Bumblebeebum23 · 28/05/2024 07:34

I've just seen an 11 on my scales! 11st 13lbs and 7/8 but still an 11 🤣 Not bad after a weekend away. Onwards and downwards!

LemonTurdCart · 28/05/2024 17:22

Well done on the losses everyone. I weighed at 16st 0.5 for the 5th day in a row, desperate for the scale to show 15- something now.

I came home from work ravenous and had 4 walnut halves and a sparkling water so that is my win for today

GoneWithTheSunshine · 28/05/2024 19:06

Please may I join you? I started last week on 18st 1.3lbs (I weigh in kilograms and it was 114.9, so had to convert it and hope the above is correct). I lost 800g last week.

It feels like such a long journey, and I've had so many failed attempts in previous years. I could do with some motivation from other people on the same journey.

Here’s something I do.

Think about how much you’d like to lose as a first target. Allow a 1lb loss per week. Then count the number of weeks that would take to go back in time and think about what you were doing then. Does it seem far away? No. Will the time it takes to lose that weight go as quickly? Yes!

So, let’s say you want to lose 25lbs. A pound a week and you’d have that gone now if you’d started. 25 weeks ago was December 5th- in my case I was just starting my Christmas shopping, planning on collecting my Christmas tree at the weekend, and gearing up for the office Christmas party. It feels like yesterday.

I'm 50-something. I've yoyo dieted my whole life until now. Average size maybe 12. But I'm small-frame, so size 14 is 'big' and a lot of padding. Anyway, by 2022 I'd got to size 16, the biggest I'd ever been.

I knew the calorie rules, the intermittent fasting, the minimum 20 mins moderate exercise a day. I'd successfully lost 2-3 stone at various times. But I'd then put it back on again.

The difference this time is that in 2022 I stopped eating most ultra-processed food. No shop-bought cake, biscuits, crisps, ready meals, sausages, bacon, etc. I also stopped calorie counting. I was careful enough, didn't eat massive amounts of cheese, say, but I otherwise ate as much as I wanted of whole foods - fruit, veg, artisan bread, fish & chicken not red meat. Potatoes or sweet potatoes, not pasta or rice.

I walked a lot, but I do anyway as I don't have a car or ride a bike.

I lost 3 stone in 18 months, and I'm still on the 'diet', sort of - I'll have rice or pasta occasionally now, the occasional Haagen-Daaz lolly, but treats have to be as wholesome as possible.

My diet has now shifted completely. I just don't buy the crap I used to buy a lot. I would love a chocolate biscuit, but not enough to buy a packet.

@BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh Christmas seems ages ago!
What works for me is thinking of NEXT Christmas and asking myself 'do I want to feels as big and look as bad as LAST Christmas'?
Mini goals helps. Mine is my upcoming holiday (in four weeks - eeek). Then it will be university moving in day (do I want to be identified as 'the fat mum')? Then it will be Christmas, then my birthday, then whatever trip I do next summer when I hope to be at goal - now wouldn't that be something!
