5 stone to lose - Anyhow that works for you - thread 3

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 08/05/2024 09:10

If you have (or had) more than 5 stone to lose and plan on doing so over many months in a reasonably sustainable way and would like to hang out with a supportive crowd this could well be the thread for you.

I took the title of the thread based on the previous threads some of us were on which turned out to be lovely supportive threads. With a mild edit to clarify no I'm not guaranteeing everyone will lose 5 stone in 6 months.

Super happy for anyone who likes the sound of this to join us. Weigh ins have typically been once a week on Monday. I generally prefer working in kilos because the maths is nice but stones are also perfectly fine.

General medical advice for most people is to aim to lose 1 - 2 pounds a week, or somewhere between 0.5 - 1kg. If you've quite a lot to lose a kilo (2.2lb) a week is perfectly healthy and sensible amount to aim for. That is a 1000 kcal deficit a day. = 26kg (4 stone in 6 months). This is clearly a VERY ask if your total daily energy expenditure is 2600 kcal than if it is 1600 kcal. This advice does rise up to 2-3 pounds a week or 1.5kg a week if you have a high BMI, (so e.g. the person below has an estimated total daily energy expenditure of 2591 so could quite sensibly aim to eat 1340 kcal a day) but do get medical advice if you aren't sure what a good target for you is.

Absolutely no pressure on anyone as to how fast you should be aiming to lose weight. I would like the priority always to be getting healthier bodies and healthier habits.

you can calculate your total daily energy expenditure with a site like this one

https://tdeecalculator.net/result.php?s=metric&g=female&age=49&kg=124&cm=168&act=1.375&f=1

Calories Needed for a 49 year old, 124 kg Female

A 49 year old female who is 124kg needs an estimated 2,591 calories per day

Hey there @Bunnyjo no stress, well done on your progress. There's nothing like being scared for your kids to throw you off balance so I think you've being doing amazingly well. I hope your dd doesn't have to wait too much longer.

Terrific NSVs @BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh the horror of those light patio type armchairs when you stand up and the chair comes too! Totally the stuff of humiliating nightmares.

Loving the non-scale victories! Makes all this bloody work worth it!

Well, I seem to be weighing in on Sundays now so here are my numbers:

SW 18st 10lbs
CW 16st 10lbs
GW 12st

So another 3lbs gone since last Sunday 🥳 Seeing the 2 stone loss come up on the scales this morning was fab!

My mid term goal of being in the 15s by 21st June is looking just about doable, but trying not to put pressure on myself. At the moment I am loving feeling like I've got a lot more energy and a lot more of my wardrobe fitting!

Great to see everyone's successes and NSVs. We'll done all 😁

I am currently feeling bloated from too much bbq food yesterday combined with coming on my period. I was up 2lbs this morning which was depressing following my success at reaching 50lb loss midweek 😪 However, trying to remain positive and focussed. I will officially weigh in again tomorrow and refocus!

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 13/05/2024 06:05

✅111.8kg 6 stone lost

Wow that's fantastic @stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk well done on reaching your 6 stone lost target👏🤩

CommeUneVacheEspagnole · 13/05/2024 07:27

Well done @stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk that's amazing and so close to 2 stone lost too!

Summers tough for me as I can't wear the pretty outfits others do and it's an annual reminder that I have to go through being too hot again as I didn't lose the weight again. The joke is I never thought I could wear the outfits but looking back, I'm sure I could have.

I'm working from home today as I have my 121. As I'm not out and about I'm going to try and skip breakfast and eat 2 small meals (we have a debate in our house as to what those meals are officially called.) pre Covid I never ate until 12pm but I then ate as much as if I did. I was 10/20kg lighter tho.

Bumblebeebum23 · 13/05/2024 07:45

Well done @stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk 👏so close to another 2 stone this year which is amazing!

As anticipated, I am up this week 😭 back to 12st 2lbs! Oh well, new week, fresh start.

We are in the same boat today but your last update was amazing so 1.5lbs is neither here nor there. It will be gone before you know it. Well done. 👏

I'm already hungry haha

Bumblebeebum23 · 13/05/2024 08:10

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words @CommeUneVacheEspagnole 😊 here's to a good week for us both x

mondaytosunday · 13/05/2024 08:45

Well done everyone!
Ok so didn't weigh today as DDs birthday on Friday and son came up and it was another indulgent couple days. But on Friday I was finally down again so lost 8.2kg (18lbs) total in a month. I have six weeks til my flight to Spain and I believe I said previously I really really fear having to get a seatbelt extender (I know this is a normal request and FAs are discreet but I would consider it my personal rock bottom). EasyJet - I've always fit and while not a comfortable trip this has always been my benchmark. And I am now 20kg (44lbs) heavier than when I last flew with them in 2017.
Don't worry I know I'm not going to lose 20kg in six weeks. But I have no other celebrations to tempt me off plan. I'm contemplating doing the 5:2, keeping under 1500 calories for five days going down to say 800 for two. I'll try it this week. The proper Fast 800 I don't think I can cope with plus with type 1 diabetes it's not advised.
After my holiday I'll be totally happy with a slower 1kg weight loss a week which I have done previously long term.

OkyDoke · 13/05/2024 08:57

Jumping back in here if that's okay, was on the previous thread for a while.

Just found my starting weight from that thread:
SW 1/1/24 217.4lbs
CW 12/5/24 204.4 lbs

No target weight at the moment, just losing bit by bit!

One thing I have found is that I am now on Week 8 of Couch to 5k and in the last couple of weeks that the runs have got longer, it has really helped to lose. Hoping to keep it up!

Realist2022 · 13/05/2024 10:28

Thanks for the new thread @stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk. I lurked on the last one but here goes:
SW (04.01.24) 17 st 11.5
CW (12.05.24) 14 st 10.5
GW 11st ish

I am beginning to be a bit more relaxed about it in so far as I find the scales can stick for a couple of weeks and then start dropping again so trying not to overthink it but gym 3-4 times a week, 10,000 steps and logging all food. We have an InBody machine at the gym and it shows visceral fat and mine has dropped from 20 to 14 (not entirely sure what the units are but a healthy woman is below 11 so that is my goal) so I am really pleased with that. Best moment though was when I went from obese to overweight and my stepdaughters commented I am no longer only wearing black!

The last thread kept me going so thank you for all being so honest, shall try and post a bit more regularly.

DuckWithOneWing · 13/05/2024 10:40

I've had a good week, and now I've realised there's a chance I could be under 100kg next week! And on Saturday I went for my longest run and completed couch to 5k week 5, which is 20 minutes non stop.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 13/05/2024 15:09

Can join you, I've got about 7 1/2 stone to lose.
Was at 17 1/2 stone when I weighed last Tuesday and have finally got to the point where I just feel so heavy I need to do something about it.
I made a start last week by really cutting back on sugar ( I often ate bowls of sugary cereal for breakfast, lunch and supper) I've found this has made me feel much less hungry overall.
My motivation was thinking that I've got 12 weeks until I go on holiday and if I can be even a stone lighter it will make walking so much easier.

SidonieBaker · 14/05/2024 00:36

I would love to join please - after burying my head in the sand for a long time while, I've realised that I need to lose 4.5 stone. DS1 weighs 4.5 stone Shock I couldn't carry him for any length of time now but of course effectively I'm carrying him everywhere! No wonder my knees are protesting (nods to @Version4needsabitofwork and @CommeUneVacheEspagnole there!) and my ankles are swollen by the end of the day...

This podcast about goal setting has really inspired me, I'm going to work out my timelines and how I can get there - does anyone have a diary app they could recommend by any chance?! By 'diary' I mean one where I can save notes, photos etc - I used to use Evernote but they now want me to subscribe for some ridiculous amount of money Hmm

My absolute downfall is meal planning, ashamed to say I have still not got the hang of it, I just cannot wrap my brain round it at all. There's me + DP + 2DC and often we all want/ need different meals (allergies etc) which makes my brain hurt just to think about it!

PS love your username @ShortFatHouseElf, that feels like me most days Grin

Blimey, you lot are awesome! Can I join you? I need to shed several stone and need the proverbial kick up the backside to do something about it!

Scrabblingaround · 14/05/2024 08:49

So, it was weigh in day for me yesterday. But I got some new scales as the old ones were a bit cheap and crap.
The new scales say I'm over a stone heavier than the old scales did. Devastated doesn't quite cover it...

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 14/05/2024 20:24

Well done everyone some great losses and totally agree with @CommeUneVacheEspagnole a little upward bounce after a nice weekend is nbd in the greater scheme of things, it will come down again (almost) just as quickly so long as you don't let it get you down so kudos for the perseverance @Bumblebeebum23 and sending good vibes for next week.

Thankyou. I'm consoling myself that I have lost the weight I thought I had... I think I was just starting from a higher number than I realised.

So I'm at 121kg now. 19st 1lb

Onwards. Hopefully I'll be 'back' in the 18s pretty soon.

Bumblebeebum23 · 15/05/2024 13:07

Oh no @Scrabblingaround! How disappointing for you 😔. However, you are right...it doesn't take away from the weight you have lost. You are doing amazingly. You've got this 💪
