10st plus to lose - part 3

A big welcome to anyone who wants to join us on bigger weight loss journeys.

We are all following our own methods, whatever works for each of us and no judgment for anyone who falls off the wagon for a bit either. We've all been there and know we're on a marathon and not a sprint.

Part three, let's go!

I've read the whole of this and the previous thread and have to say I think you're all amazing and need a round of applause for the way you are all encouraging each other 👏👏👏.

I have about 5 stones to lose and am really struggling, so please may I join in?

SW: 16:10
CW: 16:7
GW: 11:7

Feel like as I've got older (early 40s now), losing weight the SW/WW way has become more and more difficult and have resorted to IF, which seems to be more sustainable for my time of life now.

Thanks for helping to inspire me to put some meaningful effort into my weight loss journey.

PreesHeath · 06/05/2024 08:14

Hi @JackieWeaverhasendedthemeeting . Good start!

Checking in for accountability- am all over the place. Have had one day off programme 6 days on this week and …..2lb gain and am back over 15 stone 😪Don’t feel it’s really deserved and a stone back one in 6 weeks or so. Obviously feeling down, but am going to climb Glastonbury Tor today to perk myself up.

JackieWeaverhasendedthemeeting · 06/05/2024 08:59

@PreesHeath Happy climbing! At least that will blow the cobwebs away, nothing like a bit of fresh air!😊

I really need some accountability too - my sister passed away some months ago, partly as the result of obesity, so I really have a catalyst to push me into a healthier way of eating but transforming a life of dodgy eating choices into a healthy, balanced way is not an overnight thing and I have a lot of bad habits that need to be unlearned and replaced with something else.

Everyone's kindness and sheer determination on here is such a motivator so onwards and downwards

Happy Bank Holiday all

DuckWithOneWing · 06/05/2024 21:07

I've lost half a pound this week. I haven't had a good few days though - on Saturday I was far too tired and so ate everything in the house, and on Sunday I was out for most of the day so didn't eat much and then ate loads when I got back. I also didn't go for my planned run on Saturday.

Today I did week 5 run 1 of couch to 5k, and it was easier than I expected. Last week was hard, but today I felt I could run forever. It's only running for 5 minutes followed by some walking and repeated 3 times but I felt like a real runner!

@PreesHeath try to ignore the bad weigh in and carry on. It can just be things like you drank more than expected the day before so are super hydrated but not actually fatter. The views from Glastonbury Tor look stunning so hopefully you enjoyed yourself.

@JackieWeaverhasendedthemeeting welcome! I'm not following SW now, but I do try to stick to their basic principle of eating more fruit and veg whilst limiting higher calorie options like chocolate and crisps. It's good that you've found something that works for you, but you're right about changing habits being hard!

Sammysees · 10/05/2024 19:25

Hello all. I have had a bumpy few weeks. My last 3 weigh ins I have stayed the same. I am tracking, weighing measuring, every mortal thing and averaging 1200 calories a day. Gutted doesn’t even begin to describe how I am feeling. I have been really poorly the last 2 days with D&V. Got on the scales this morning (a day early) and I have lost 7lbs. I think some of that will go back on next week due to the illness though.
It’s a rocky road isn’t it? Weight goes on so easily and it’s a bloody nightmare to lose it again.
You have all been a great support and I hope our weight loss journeys become easier over time.

PreesHeath · 10/05/2024 20:45

Yes I’m still struggling too! Wish I had the answer. Keep on keeping on.

DuckWithOneWing · 14/05/2024 09:23

Sorry you've been struggling @Sammysees and @PreesHeath How have things been this week?

The previous Sunday I really struggled because I went out all day and then came home starving so ate everything in the house. This week I planned better, so I took snacks with me and actually managed to have a good day. Today I'm trying a new Zumba class as my usual one isn't on.

JackieWeaverhasendedthemeeting · 15/05/2024 06:05

Morning all! I had a pleasant surprise on the scales this am, which is a motivator par excellence. This whole intermittent fasting malarkey seems to be starting to actually have an effect. Phone call with the GP later so at least I can tell her the weight isn't piling on and is actually starting to peel off (albeit at a snail's pace!)

SW 16:10
CW 16:4.75
GW 11:5

Have good days, everyone!💐

PreesHeath · 15/05/2024 11:46

Well done on the loss, @JackieWeaverhasendedthemeeting !

I've had a good couple of days food wise, and an OK few days exercise wise. I'm not going to weigh myself for a few weeks, and am just trying to stabilise, and stick to the programme as best I can, concentrate on good habits, (sleep, exercise, regular meals, stopping work on time) and not put myself through the ordeal of a weigh in which I know will only upset me. Going to the Lake District at half term, so I think a proper reset after then will be the way to go and return to weekly weigh ins at that point.

Good luck all!

Sunshineandrainbow · 17/05/2024 18:55

I really find not weighing for a few weeks helps me especially when the scales are not moving quickly.

I am annoyed with myself as where I work they got chips today and I had approx quarter of a portion that was going to waste. I have a really thing about waste and it doesn't help my weight. Should have just taken them to the local fox cubs instead of being a greedy guts.

Sammysees · 18/05/2024 09:36

Hi all. I have been poorly with food poisoning that lasted 10 days. You’d think that would help with weight loss right? To be fair I am losing weight but god it’s so slow!

Week 9
SW 295lbs
CW 276lbs
Total loss 19lbs
Mini goal 224lbs

When I look at it written down it is an average loss of 2lbs a week which is great really. But why can’t I lose 2 stone in a week 😂

Do you find it easier to lose weight in the warmer months?

It is interesting that a few of you have said not to weigh so often. I have been thinking about changing my weigh ins from weekly to monthly. Do you feel this takes the pressure off?

Sunshineandrainbow · 18/05/2024 09:59

@Sammysees your weight loss is fantastic, be proud of yourself. Wow one more pound and you have lost 20! That's amazing.

I quite enjoy salads in the summer, just have to be careful with dressings and coleslaw (tend to make my own)

You could try weighing less often and see if it suits you. I like the freedom of it.

Sammysees · 18/05/2024 10:26

Our local Morrisons has the salad bar. For me it is all the little extras like the onion crunchy bits and bacon bits. The coleslaw for definite too! I do still have them but limit myself to a teaspoon rather than half the salad being the naughty bits 😂

I’ve not counted my calories in the last few days which I need to get a grip with. If I don’t things start creeping in and before I know it I am eating 500 calories more than I thought. Or more 🙈

How are you getting on @PreesHeath ?

PreesHeath · 18/05/2024 11:33

Thanks for asking @Sammysees . I’m sticking to it, which is half the battle. Am enjoying salads at the moment. Had a crunchy Thai prawn and peanut salad yesterday which was great.

Started week 9 of C25k and I ran for 30 minutes without stopping but I am still slow. Just shy of 3k covered. After I complete the course I am going to set myself a goal of 45minutes for a 5 k. Taking inspiration from @DuckWithOneWing ‘s Park Run efforts.

Quite an interrupted week coming up, lunch at MIL’s tomorrow, an overnight stay in Bristol on Thursday then going on holiday on Saturday. Will be hard to stick to the programme, but I will try my best!

Sammysees · 18/05/2024 18:22

Wow! That’s amazing! I couldn’t run for 30 seconds.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday 🏝️

DuckWithOneWing · 19/05/2024 14:55

I haven't been able to do another ParkRun since, as I usually work on Saturdays. But I am off in a couple of weeks and can't wait! I've kept up with the running. I've just started week 7 so can now run for 25 minutes without stopping. Yesterday I ran 1.5 miles! My pace is about 4 miles an hour so about the same as yours @PreesHeath so I'm sure you're not actually slow!

ShinyPikachu · 20/05/2024 07:32

Hi all, had a 2lb gain a couple of weeks ago and just got into a weird funk over it all so stepped away from the scales last week.

Happy to announce I've lost those 2lb again, plus another 2.8lb.

SW: 19st 11.6lb
CW: 18st 8.5lb
Loss: 1st 3.1lb

Hopefully there's a good week ahead for everyone.

OP posts:
Sammysees · 22/05/2024 21:05

That’s amazing @ShinyPikachu .
I am still poorly and have not been tracking my calories at all. I’m not eating much though so I’m hoping that I still have a loss on Saturday.
I had my annual review at the Dr’s last Friday. I have been called back for a follow up blood test in 8 weeks. I think I may have diabetes. I was pre-diabetic last year. My blood pressure was also very high - 148/102. It’s more important than ever to get this weight off.

Sammysees · 27/05/2024 13:55

Are we all ok? The thread has gone very quiet. Anybody need some support?

ShinyPikachu · 27/05/2024 14:55

I was thinking it had been fairly quiet. Hope everyone is doing ok, remember we're here for the ups as well as the downs.

And on that note I had a gain this week but it's been a very busy week with family celebrations so I knew I was madly over on my calories and there was no chance of anything but a gain. Back on it today, I'm determined not to sabotage my progress so far because of just one week.

OP posts:
Sammysees · 27/05/2024 16:38

I am struggling too. I am bored of eating the same thing day in, day out. I need a good shake up!

DuckWithOneWing · 27/05/2024 18:23

I have been so busy recently. I'm finishing up my degree with the OU, and have far too much to do. I've got an exam and a huge piece of work both due in June. So I've actually been doing fairly well recently - I don't have the headspace for anything else, so it's been easier to stick to my calories than think about anything else. I just have the same thing ever day because then the hardest bit is choosing which flavour protein shake to have (and that usually just ends up being a lucky dip!).

Sunshineandrainbow · 27/05/2024 19:53

What kind of things do you have @Sammysees maybe we could help with ideas.

Sammysees · 27/05/2024 21:16

I always have porridge for breakfast. One of the pots you just add boiling water to. It’s easy for me to make/eat at work.
Lunch is always chicken and salad. I also take in to work a piece of fruit. Either a banana, some berries, a plum or some fresh cherries.
Mid afternoon I have a treat of an 80 calorie skinny whip bar or a bag of Frazzles.
Dinner is fish and veg, usually a fish cake or salmon. I’ll have another (less than 100 cals) treat in the evening.
God I sound so dull 😂
I love spicy food. But I can’t eat a curry without rice. And carbs are not great for me post menopause. I try and stick to 1200 calories per day but even on that I am only losing 1 to 2lbs per week.
I also need to move more but just don’t have the enthusiasm. I am usually exhausted by the time I get home from work.
Any tips gratefully received 🙏

Sunshineandrainbow · 27/05/2024 22:24

Could you add a yog for some extra protein either at lunch or mid afternoon.
How about a hot choc in the evening or merguine nest with strawberries and yogurt.

Are you having enough fluids.

I find not having breakfast works for me so I don't eat at work until about 2ish.

Could you do a 10 min walk in your lunch break. I have downloaded an app called active 10. Which wants me to brisk walk for 10 mins a day and it tracks it.

But do you know what 1 or 2 pound a week is such a good loss, remember you are doing amazing.
