10st plus to lose - part 3

ShinyPikachu · 26/04/2024 13:22

A big welcome to anyone who wants to join us on bigger weight loss journeys.

We are all following our own methods, whatever works for each of us and no judgment for anyone who falls off the wagon for a bit either. We've all been there and know we're on a marathon and not a sprint.

Part three, let's go!

A yoghurt is actually a great idea. My calcium intake is not good.

I do make sure to drink at least 2 litres of water a day. I don’t drink tea or coffee and always have a bottle of flavoured water on my desk.

I think having so much to lose feels so demoralising sometimes. It feels like I will never get down to a healthy weight. I will keep going though because it is coming off slowly.

Sammysees · 01/06/2024 09:27

Week 11
SW - 295lbs (21 stone 1lb)
CW - 273lbs (19 stone 7lbs)
Total loss 22lbs which is an even 2lbs a week

That's incredible @Sammysees keep chipping away.
I have lost 1lb and three quarters this week.

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 01/06/2024 12:18

Can I say hello please?

Started MJ 5 weeks ago at 23 stone

Was 22 stone 2 yesterday so 12 lb off in that time

I know other people lose more quickly but I’m trying to keep my calories around 1500 a day and lose it more slowly in the hope it doesn’t go on again quickly.

I’m not setting a goal at the moment, taking it a half stone at a time.

DuckWithOneWing · 01/06/2024 12:21

I did another ParkRun today. This time I ran all the way! My last run was awful so I didn't know what to expect today, but I hoped I could run it all and I did.

Sammysees · 01/06/2024 12:57

Well done @Sunshineandrainbow . Slow and steady wins the race. Even though I would love to lose 2 stone a week I think that is a tad unrealistic 😂

I am in awe of you running @DuckWithOneWing. I have started walking which is about as good as it gets right now. You are, genuinely, amazing!

Welcome @DownWithThisKindOfThing. That is a brilliant loss in 3 weeks. I’m trying not to think about an end goal too much either. I am a grazer (and a binger) so trying to just set some good habits in the hope that they are routine when I get to the point I want to be.

I have discovered a love of chicken salad. On a Sunday evening I chop up individual salad items like red onion, celery, radish etc and put them all in individual mason jars. Each morning I can just empty a little of each jar into my lunchbox with a side of coleslaw and take it to work. I am all about quick and easy!

Tesco do a mango and lime chicken which is only 113 calories per half a pack. I am really enjoying it with my salad and would recommend.

For the first time in 6 years I am feeling positive. My PTSD is under control, also for the first time in 6 years, and I am feeling hopeful that I can do this.

Thank you everyone for the support - it really makes a difference 💪🏼

ShinyPikachu · 01/06/2024 13:45

Well done @Sammysees and @Sunshineandrainbow

Welcome @DownWithThisKindOfThing - I prefer a slow and steady loss too. It might be more of a marathon but I feel it's more sustainable for me in the long run.

Great job for the running @DuckWithOneWing

I'm trying to get out walking more now we're having mostly nicer weather. If it rains I can't sit on a bench to rest so as long as it's dry I'm trying to get out and about. Running is definitely not my thing but I love when people find things they enjoy doing.

That's a great idea about the chicken salad @Sammysees I tend to buy pre-prepared salad ingredients because it makes a difference with my health issues so I wouldn't need the jars but I could easily throw something like that together with the flavoured chicken. I once did something similar with precooked salmon fillets if you fancied a change. I got them instead of raw ones as a swap in a supermarket delivery and I just didn't know what else to do with them. I should pick them up again if I see them. Smile

Thanks @Sammysees for the lovely salad idea, I am going to try it. I am a bit fed up of cottage cheese and crackers for lunch.

DuckWithOneWing · 03/06/2024 18:58

@Sammysees 7 stone ago I was struggling to walk and couldn't have dreamt about running 5k. I added more walking when I could, and then I started the couch to 5k plan a few weeks ago. It's supposed to be 9 weeks but I changed it a bit at the end as it builds up to a 30 minute run (which is supposed to be 5k) but I'm a lot slower than that.

@ShinyPikachu definitely find something you enjoy! I hate yoga but I know a lot of people like that. I do some of the YouTube walking workouts if it's bad weather and I can't get my steps in. I like Leslie Sansone and Get Fit With Rick. I've also tried someone called Gina.

My weight is currently really annoying. I seem to be having a good loss one week, and then a bad loss the next. The week before was 2.4kg loss, so this week was the bad week and somehow I ended up with a small gain.

Agree the walking videos on your tube are a fab idea and easy to fit in.

DuckWithOneWing · 10/06/2024 14:56

This week continued with the bad weigh in followed by good weigh in trend and I lost 2.3kg! This week I have an exam and am then going on holiday to celebrate.

How is everyone else doing?

PreesHeath · 10/06/2024 15:46

Well done! That's a massive loss in a week. Brilliant.

I'm holding on, just. 14 stone 11 today, although I am still 9lbs up since Easter. On the way back down though slowly.

Coming to the end of week 9 (with many breaks) of C25k, and am going to start again from week 1, but jogging in the walking bits, and running as fast as I can in the running bits. Hope to improve my speed a bit, and build up to running further in 30 minutes than I can at the moment.

Also climbed Scafell Pike at half term. Climb was fine, descent was tough, but not as tough for me as Snowdon. Having two walking poles helped. Recovery quicker than Snowdon too (5 days soreness in one leg, as opposed to 10 days in both). SP is shorter and a bit smaller but hopefully my training paid off too.

DuckWithOneWing · 12/06/2024 22:31

I have now finished my degree! I'm in Devon, via Cheddar (where I had a cheese ice cream which was really nice).

Well done on climbing scafell pike! I didn't climb Jacob's ladder at Cheddar today. Looking at it was enough for me. Leslie sansone says that recovery is a good gauge of fitness, so if your recovery time is going down you must be getting better!

mondaytosunday · 13/06/2024 00:04

Haven't checked in on this thread for a while.
Week 9
SW: 24.9
CW: 22.8
GW: 12.5
Mini goal: 18 stone by Christmas, which will be a bit over the half way mark!

Two meals a day, limited carbs. No alcohol. I'm not so much stomach hungry between meals as head hungry, but winning so far.
I have been away a couple times and eaten at maintenance or a bit more which results in an immediate gain, water weight from the extra carbs I guess, and it takes a few days to get back into a proper deficit and to see it go back down again.
12 days til my holiday, hoping to lose another 4lbs maybe 5 by then.
I'm not doing any exercise other than walking. The rapidity of my loss (stone/month) is because I have so much to lose. Previous it's been an average of 10lbs/month which I will be happy with after my holiday.

Sunshineandrainbow · 13/06/2024 09:14

Congratulations @DuckWithOneWing on finishing your degree that amazing. Enjoy your well deserved holiday,

You have a fab loss @mondaytosundayyou must feel great, what kind of things do you have for your meals?

I have bought the chicken you recommended thanks @Sammysees been enjoying it with salad and beetroot.

Seven7seven · 13/06/2024 15:19

Good afternoon all. I hope you don't mind me hopping on this thread. I turned 40 last week, and something in my head finally clicked, and I've started my journey to a healthier me!
I'm taking orlistat to aid my loss and the nutracheck app.
Week 1
Sw 17st
Cw 16st 8lb
Gw 12st
I don't know why I let myself get so big, but I'm now finally taking accountability and changing my habits. I've a massive sweet tooth and a bit of a binge eater, so this is going to take some serious willpower

PreesHeath · 17/06/2024 09:48

Hello @Seven7seven a belated welcome to you! That’s a very encouraging 6lb loss in week 1!

I’ve had a 1lb loss this week, better than a kick in the teeth, but it’s such a slog. Any thoughts of reaching the merely overweight zone by my 50th in August have receded but surely I can do it by Christmas?! Healthy weight by my 51st?!

ShinyPikachu · 17/06/2024 15:54

Well done those with losses. I've had small gain after small gain recently. I've managed to injure myself so I can't go out walking like I was getting used to doing, and there have been a lot more takeaways as a result which I know isn't great. Thankfully it's nothing too bad and I'm starting to improve so fingers crossed I'm back to walking around again soon.

OP posts:
DuckWithOneWing · 17/06/2024 17:09

I had a gain of 1.1kg which I'm really pleased with after my holiday! I went to a ParkRun on Saturday and set a new PB even though it was an unfamiliar course but it was so nice running by the sea! Today I've bought new running trainers - I went to a shop that makes you run on a treadmill so they can see what the best shoe for you is. I was nervous because I thought they would think I'm too fat/slow for this service but they were really nice.

Welcome @Seven7seven! Hope you've had a good few days. Well done for your loss in week 1.

@PreesHeath I can't believe you're talking about Christmas already!

@ShinyPikachu hope you recover soon.

PlantDoctor · 19/06/2024 21:58

Hi! I was on the last thread but I got derailed by some family issues that caused me to stress eat again. :-/ Anyway, I'm back on the horse as of Monday, so thought I'd come and find you all again! Nice to see how well you're all doing!

I was sad to hear about Michael Moseley's death and had been planning on reading the Fast800 book. I have now read it and decided to stock the house with vegetables, lean meats, olive oil, and yoghurt and berries! I made some lovely high-protein, high-veg meals the past couple of days. I won't be strictly sticking to 800 calories, particularly on days when my young daughter is at home, but I have always done well with intermittent fasting, which is the other thing he recommends in the book. So yeah, my main approach is a low-carb med diet and intermittent fasting (16:8 where possible, otherwise at least no evening snacking!)

I've been teaching DD to swim so we both have swim memberships. We go at least once a week, but of course I am helping her and can't get much swimming in myself. I need to make sure I get there once a week on my own so I can actually get some proper swimming done!

My SW on Monday morning was 132kg (after hugely overeating at the weekend, so true weight may be slightly less). My heaviest ever weight was 136kg.

Hi plant doctor.

Nice to see you back and you sound really motivated which is fab.

I have the fast 800 book which I have never read. You have inspired me to dig it out.

I have been poorly with gallbladder infection so I am a bit derailed. Pain has gone now and back to work which helps the routine.

How everyone else doing?

PlantDoctor · 20/06/2024 08:48

Oh no, @Sunshineandrainbow , that sounds horrible! Glad you're feeling a bit better.

The book has a lot of interesting scientific studies that have been done recently using low-calorie diets. Definitely worth a read. He also didn't put any stock in starvation mode which was refreshing!

DuckWithOneWing · 24/06/2024 10:13

I've hurt my knee I went for a run on Thursday and everything seemed fine, but then on Friday I couldn't get out of bed. I've been hoping it's nothing and will wear off but this morning it's quite swollen so I think I'm just in denial. I haven't made the best food choices this weekend (although I did enjoy the wine!) so my weigh in was about the same as my post holiday weight last week.

Sunshineandrainbow · 26/06/2024 08:03

How is your knee @DuckWithOneWing hope it has eased. I have had my scan and just waiting for the results. I could hear lots of beeps which maybe means they found something but trying not to think too much about it at the moment.

I am going out for dinner tonight, will try and make a good choice.

PlantDoctor · 26/06/2024 09:23

I don't think beeps necessarily mean anything, @Sunshineandrainbow. Fingers crossed for you! What type of restaurant are you going to?

Sorry about your knee, @DuckWithOneWing! Sounds nasty! Would ice help the swelling?

I've lost 2.2 kg in my first week back on track, which is good! Might have put some on again because I had a very stressful day yesterday and chomped my way through a load of junk in the evening, but I won't weigh myself today as don't need the discouragement! Back on track today though.

We're finally getting some of the heat wave here in Cornwall. Anything over about 20 is too hot in my opinion!
