2 Stone Slimmer For Summer - a thread for those with lots to lose

RedDoughnut · 01/04/2024 11:54

Here we go! This is our third 2 stones off thread.

I did really well in 2 stones off for Xmas, less good in the Easter thread.

I found having an end date in sight meant I could focus on the date rather than than the monumental amount of weight I needed to lose

End date for this thread is 15th July which will roughly tie in with school holidays. 15 weeks from today.

Welcome to anyone new who wants to join and to anyone who has been involved in either of the two previous threads.
Im not starting until tomorrow

I'd also like to ask that everyone adds one element of self care that they don't usually have time for. I'm going to start using a specific cream for my eyes. Maybe by summer that will also show a difference?

This group seems a lot friendlier than the exercise board!
Blimey!
I was mostly told I was making excuses not to exercise.
Totally ignoring I'm busy with work and family.

However I did have a day off today and went swimming.
It's too far away to go usually but a nice treat.
And the water pressure in the showers there is amazing!

Hey, I could absolutely find the time to do more exercise, I could, but using today as an example

  • 6.20am - up and get DD up, sort breakfast, wash up, quick tidy round
-8am leave for 40min drive to holiday club
  • 9.30am - home and start working, work through lunch to make up for later start and earlier finish to pick up from holiday club
  • 5pm - off to get DD
  • 6.30pm - home and start on getting dinner ready
  • 8 pm - DD goes to bed

Now I could have gone out at this point to swimming, or done an exercise video, but I had not stopped all day, been busy for 14 and a half hours and I just cannot drag together the energy to do anything more than lay on the sofa looking at the floor that hasn't been hoovered and pissing about on MN.

socks1107 · 04/04/2024 21:36

I've walked 14.5k in steps today which according to my Apple Watch is 10k.
I've stuck to calories so all good today!

I could've gone swimming but am exhausted after work and cba!

RedDoughnut · 04/04/2024 21:51

@FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain

That's just it! It's exhausting.
One poster told me to get up earlier to exercise, ignoring the face that my working day is either 6am to 6pm or 7.30am to 7.30pm.

They must be made of stronger stuff than me.

I think exercise had lots of benefits but to lose weight it is 99% diet. Great to fit exercise in if you can but not essential to losing weight.

afrikat · 04/04/2024 21:56

Nonewclothes2024 · 04/04/2024 14:32

Exactly me , except 3 weeks. So frustrating

Wtf right??

Eumie · 04/04/2024 22:15

I managed to exercise some willpower today, I didn’t get a fancy coffee at lunch, just an espresso. Then I didn’t get takeaway and stuck to my meal plan.

Although I did have some Prosecco this evening as I managed to pass my difficult exam with flying colours. I do feel a bit guilty now though. I am still under my calories for today, but only just.

I really want to see a drop on the scales as I am feeling like I am doing so much and getting no where!

Chucklemaker · 04/04/2024 22:16

Hello, I’m a bit late but can I join please? So inspired by how many of you have had great losses on the previous Christmas and Easter challenges! I’ve lost a stone so far via slimming world but I keep dicking about and it’s taking too long.

Currently 12 stone 2 lbs.
Target by July 10 stone 2 lbs
Ultimate target 9 stone.

Jelliclecats · 05/04/2024 07:15

If you lost weight with how cold it is, I’d have lost two stone last night! The wind chill is awful…kids are getting bored with being in, aargh. GP is sending me for scan of kidneys and I’m just eating bland food when I can - yesterday was just porridge and ryvita. Today, I’m going to try for porridge and a tuna jacket potato. Lots of water.

thisplaceiscraziness · 05/04/2024 07:26

is it ok to join?
SW 103kg
CW 96kg
GW 70kg

I fell off the wagon over easter and feel utterly low.
Struggle with peri - decided to stop HRT last year.
love the gym but not been for a week.
I always fail. I am 44.

Rennypie03 · 05/04/2024 07:28

@thisplaceiscraziness well done for your 7kg Weightloss. That's impressive. May I ask what you did that helped? I'm 43. I'm in Peri menopause SW105 in January CW 102.5. It's so so slow for me

Any tips please?

We can do this!!!!!

I'm with you too. What time is there that isn't already taken?!
My average day
6-630am wake-up with toddler, get me and toddler ready
7am wake-up eldest and get ready for school
745am leave the house for nursery/ school drop off and go to work
830am-5pm work (at a desk so sedentary). Only get 30mins lunch and usually work through it/eat at desk because nowhere to go
6-7pm get home, make tea
7-830pm bath and bed for kids
830pm sort the house out. So making packed lunches, tidying up, cleaning, putting washing on / away etc etc. Usually finish this about 930-10pm by the time everything is done.
I then try to go to bed because toddler is usually awake at 2am for a bit and I need sleep!

I'm not exactly sure where I'm meant to fit it in without losing sleep, and I only average about 6.5hours a night as it is!!

Stripyunicorn · 05/04/2024 07:37

I did manage to do half hour on Wednesday, but only because traffic is less due to school holidays so I've built up a bit of lieu time by getting to work early!

Thanks!!!
I started by upping my steps weekly - regular walk once a week ( huge walk) and sticking to this.
Then i went quite low calorie for a few weeks - not maintainable.
started the gym and swimming , then moved to weights.
I believe the biggest thing i did was dropped sugary hot drinks - i have one coffee with sugar a day.

Well I did do all this since easter weekend , I've been a mess, no gym and far too much food. Interestingly though , I realised It was an emotional trigger that set me off - now i realise the impact of this i’m hoping to manage it better.

We can do it, (I hope )the shops are full of my fashion dreams, Am gutted as my body shape is pregnant brick 🥴

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 05/04/2024 08:08

@thisplaceiscraziness you know the future alien guys from Bill and Teds excellent adventure. The ones with the stick thin legs and arms and the huge middles. That's my body shape 😂

Flintthecat · 05/04/2024 08:40

@FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain I have just had to Google the aliens- I feel that's a fair approximation of me too!

I have just been for my first small group PT session and am starving- not quite the result I wanted! It has also categorically confirmed how unfit I am. Oh well, small steps- at least I got up and dragged myself out. No one else is up, so enjoying a coffee in peace (which I have resisted putting gingerbread syrup in, although I succumbed to some sugar on my cornflakes). I now have a teen and almost teen, so am hoping that in order for me to continue, they will get up and get ready for school while I am out (with help from Alexa!) There is no way I could have done this before they were both at high school.

My biggest issue is diet- I need to work out how to trigger some weight loss without being to restrictive as I'll just get grumpy and give up after a few weeks if I feel I can't eat nice things, then treat myself to make up for it and end up back at square one. Anyone with any tips for small nutritional improvements/ calorie cuts, please share! I did slimming world a few years ago and got to target, but couldn't face counting and weighing for the rest of my life, then after lockdown I just gave up. I don't want to go back, but know I probably need to halve the calories I'm eating now (I did a quick calculation of my daily consumption and was shocked!)

Teaformetoo · 05/04/2024 08:58

This week I’ve been off work so I have a conscious effort to move more. I’ve had a cross trainer in the garage for years which I use every now and then. Decided to get on it for ten minutes every morning before I get dressed. It is an effort - would rather sit on the sofa and watch TV but even 10 minutes on it makes me feel better and have more energy for the rest of the day. Next week will be interesting- will I keep it up when I’m back at work? It’s all just will power really as I know I can fit ten minutes into my morning and I just need to keep reminding myself of the benefits. Am hoping it will help with weight loss over time too.

LolaJ87 · 05/04/2024 09:39

I have been struggling to get back into things properly this week. I've had a killer period and I think Easter (and eating more sugar) has left me out of whack. Not making excuses, just taking accountability that I am eating at maintenance, not as active as I have been recently and won't see a loss unless I sort it out!

thisplaceiscraziness · 05/04/2024 09:48

Who ever here goes to group work outs you are true queens. I can’t bring myself to join in and expose my lack of cardio fitness.

i am totally stuck at 96kg - literally will not budge …8 hot cross buns didn’t help but …
alien from bill and ted 😂 why do we treat ourselves like this why ?

Epli · 05/04/2024 14:26

I've had a pretty good week so far. I did 3 sessions of resistance training (Caroline Girvan's Epic II) and one interval sprint session (10 minutes warm up then 5 intervals 30s+2 min rest then 10 minutes slow run). I work out during my lunch breaks (I am working from home) so it is easier for me to fit them in my schedule. (also helps the workload is light but it will be mad in May).

RedDoughnut · 05/04/2024 14:45

@Epli Caroline is amazing. I could do her stuff a couple of years ago, when she very first started before everything in life and health went down hill.

I can't see how you need to be on a diet thread of you can keep up with her!

When I win the lottery I'll pay her to be my personal trainer!

@thisplaceiscraziness you don’t always fail, you always try! That’s something to be proud of, to keep trying,

I’ve got a week’s worth of antibiotics and am sat with a cosy blanket next to the fire. All set lol.
Today it’s just been porridge and some new marmite & cheese oatcakes which are very moreish. Tomorrow I’ll try for a bigger meal.

She is amazing. When I started Epic I I only worked with 2 kg dumbbells in upper body sessions, but progressed and I saw changes to my body withing 4 weeks. I also feel much less discomfort from sitting at the desk all the time.

However I finished Epic I in December and then a long stretch of Christmas holidays, travelling for work and huge workload disturbed my routine. Suddenly I was +5kg. It is crazy how easy it is to put on weight one gets closer to 40s.

Fingers crossed for your lottery win! Or just getting back to exercising with her.

RedDoughnut · 05/04/2024 17:12

@Flintthecat

I found low sugar instant hot chocolate was good for sweet cravings

Also, instant protein porridge.

Eggs,Cottage cheese and low fat feta all with salad.
I found it best to make a big bowl of chopped salad before I'm hungry as when I'm hungry I'm usually tired and then it's easy to slip up.

Hi! I’d really like to join please! I’ve got 6 weeks until I go on holiday and I’d like to lose a stone by then.

I don’t know my start weight yet but my new scales just arrived in the food shop so I’ll brace myself for that tomorrow… I’m hazarding a guess it’s going to be around the 17 stone mark 😳

I took a picture of myself in a hotel room the other day (I don’t own a full length mirror) and while I don’t hate myself, I don’t want to stay this weight either.

So I’ve been monitoring calories for the last few days, making a huge effort to drink more water and I’ve just unpacked a healthy weekly food shop. My self care will take the form of twice monthly hair masks. My hair always suffers when I lose weight so I’ll be making sure to take vitamins and treat it well.

RedDoughnut · 05/04/2024 20:47

@Tattooedcoffeeaddict
Welcome! I'm aiming for one stone in 6 weeks too!
