Following on from the February thread.

Spring is right around the corner so it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now maintaining around 8st 12lb; although I’d like to see another half stone off 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes

@katmarie look up Joe Wick's children friendly work outs to do together. They are fun and my kids loved them. We did every single one through lockdown, and often go back to them when the weather is too awful to get out and they NEEEEED to move. The old lockdown PE with Joe is all kid friendly, and longer than the specific kids ones he has done later.

That is a great shout, thank you, I'll have a look this afternoon, and see if we can add a workout together to our morning getting ready routine.

There are worse habits to have @Rewis ! I really wish I could motivate myself to get up early and exercise before work. Would different trainers help with the route surface?

Oh this won't become a habit 😅 I'm not a morning perosn but was so tired that I went to sleep at 11pm so I managed to wake up earlier. And quite honestly, I prefere outing in late evening! Bowling today so that also counts as exercise and I'm not gonna count the cider I drink while doing it!

43ontherocksporfavor · 07/03/2024 16:10

B: boiled egg, seedy toast x1, tea with skimmed milk
L: leafy salad with a little feta and pumpkin seeds, an apple , lots of water all day.
D: white fish curry with spinach, brown rice

LemonDrizzle23 · 07/03/2024 18:47

Anyone else's app behaving atrociously today? It's like the internet in the year 2000 here (albeit with an app....)

Some lovely sounding food going on. Ive been feeling very uninspired this week, so there has been lots of chicken and rice combos.

Went to Mother's Day tea today after school (at school), but was saved from cake calories as they had nothing gluten free. I also nearly bought a delivery of brownies for the weekend, but stopped myself at the last minute, as we will be going out for lunch! So hard not to fall back into old habits 🤦🏼‍♀️

Car is in the garage, so no gym access tomorrow. I will aim for a 5km walk and a work out with the body project.

Welcome to @katmarie and @tiredandbaggy and anyone else joining in. Hopefully you will find some good motivation here!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 07/03/2024 19:29

Today's menu

B - seeded toast and scrambled egg
L - lentil & bacon soup, some chicken pieces, pear
D - halloumi, potato, broccoli, cauliflower traybake with Lebanese spice, pomegranate seeds and lemon juice

Snacks - two glasses of Prosecco and a slice of cake at a work celebration. I organised it so couldn't really avoid it.

Exercise - none, couldn't really face it after the cake and fizz!!

I'm over calories yesterday/today so will have to rein it in the rest of the week and get some exercise in.

ThreeRingCircus · 07/03/2024 22:15

Reporting another 1lb loss this week! Getting so close now to my first stone off.

Today's menu:

L - slice of buttered sourdough and an apple, a yoghurt and some nuts

D - tarka dhal and brown rice

S - two crackers

ChickenChipsandBeans · 08/03/2024 07:44

Posting today as last Friday was the 1st of the month. Feeling really rubbish as ill again. Just got rid of the lurgy last week and now it's back. Have no energy, feel achy and sorry for myself. However, even though I haven't been active, I was determined to try harder with food choices and I'm pleased to say this week I am 2.1kg down. My period finished, so that has helped. Although a great result, I am just re-losing February's gain. 0.6kg more and I will be back to my lowest weight during this weight loss attempt which I was on February 1st. Getting out of the 70s is so close, I can't wait.

SW 82.2kg (Oct.'23)
74.4 Jan '24
CW 71.3

SewingIsMySuperPower · 08/03/2024 09:00

Hi all. New to MN (long time lurker!) I've been struggling with my weight for a long time. Currently the heaviest I've been. I've successfully lost weight with Slimming World previously but I found getting to the meetings to be really hard due to my work schedule, and to be honest I was getting tired of it.

But I'm 41 and need to get myself in gear. I don't want to end up gaining more weight and having health problems because of it. Currently 12st 7lbs which I accept isn't huge, but for me it really feels it.

I need a mental reset and a bucket load of motivation so I'm here and going to try my hardest! X

SW: 12st 7lbs
TW: 11 - 11st 7lbs (although anything below 12st would be nice right now!)

tiredandbaggy · 08/03/2024 09:28

@SewingIsMySuperPower Hi! I’m 43 and we’re pretty much the same weight. I’ve just signed up to this thread too. I’m aiming to get under 11st but haven’t been there in the lifetime of my two youngest kids so we’ll see…

@ChickenChipsandBeans that’s an awesome loss for one week - envious.

I'm a daily weigher my scales haven’t moved for a couple of days now which is frustrating but I’m getting used to it and more chilled out. Today is a tough day as I’m at home with the toddler and then doing a million ballet/ tutoring ferry trips for the older kids. We’re going to a toddler art class and will go to a cafe after where I will just drink black coffee - yes I will.

todays food:

chocolate chia seed porridge with raspberries :220

omlette with extra egg whites and prawns + a bag of rocket - 230

mussels with celeriac chips and some braised leeks 300

im going to a board game meet up tonight (I’m such a geek) worried there will be lots of snack-opportunities there but I’m determined to resist. I’m driving so won’t feel tempted to drink.

have a good day everyone :)

WeirdPookah · 08/03/2024 10:32

Weighed in today, lost 2lbs this week.

Total down 63.8 lbs

Pleased with that after eating out on Sunday, I kept on track the rest of the days, didn't let the all-or-nothing get me, and I am glad it actually was validated by the scales this week. Going to try and carry that feeling to keeping on track today and tomorrow, and only eating some special things on Mothers Day.

Been for a walk, feeling hormonal headachey (wow, just for a bloody change). Finally a more normal day today after a crazy week.

B: cocoa and prune porridge with cashew butter
L: peppers, tomatoes, eggs
D: veggie meatballs, mashed swede/carrot, cabbage, gravy

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/03/2024 13:19

Today's menu

B - protein bagel with turkey rashers
L - lentil & bacon home made soup, pear
D - keema biryani

Snacks - to be decided
Exercise - will do a Les mills class later.

43ontherocksporfavor · 08/03/2024 17:01

Happy Friday all.
B: soft poached egg on one piece of dry seedy toast, tea with skimmed milk
L- green salad with a tin of tuna in spring water, an apple. Lots of water all day.
D- tbc

grumpypug · 09/03/2024 07:13

Morning all,

I weight in with a 2lb loss this week, so was happy with that. I managed to do a very short Get Fit with Rick video one evening which brought my step count slightly higher but I'm so inconsistent that I don't think it made much difference at all. I'm going to try and do a bit more walking this week. I also need to drink more water, I'm back on the iron tablets so need to combat the side effects!

I was out for a meal last night so need to make good choices today to undo some of the not so good choices I made last night!

SW: 14st 7lb
CW: 14st 5lb
Target: 10st

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 09/03/2024 08:13

Good losses @WeirdPookah and @grumpypug, well done!

I have been a very grumpy person this week, full of snot and cold and ridiculously busy at work. Managed to stick to my calories though so hoping Monday will prove it's worth it when I step on the scales.

Jecstar · 09/03/2024 08:55

Morning all!
I’m hoping to join your lovely thread, as I’ve been reading on and off since the Jan one. I’m in my late 30s and am becoming more and more mindful about how I act know will pay off in the future. I hate the way I look in the mirror and just want to feel better about myself.

I lose weight incredibly slowly, have been using nutracheck since Jan at my stating weight of 13st 6.5 and have only just managed to see 13st 3 on the scales.

Am swimming at least once a week and am going to try and commit to at least three walks a week and two at home yoga classes. Would love to see low 12s on the scales eventually.

LemonDrizzle23 · 09/03/2024 10:32

Morning and happy weekend!
The scale is moving very slowly downwards. Couple of meals out this week though, so I don't think there will be a huge loss.

Looking forward to eggs on toast and a roast chicken with trimmings today. I nearly bought the full size magnums this morning, but swapped them for the minis instead...
Gym this afternoon and then the rugby. Tomorrow will be gym and out for Mother's Day lunch.

I'm currently watching worlds best monster truck rally's, courtesy of DH and DS 😂

WeirdPookah · 09/03/2024 15:33

@FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain thank you!

Doing ok-ish today. Had a couple of fig rolls, 4 small chocolate coins and opened the cream for a coffee that's meant to be for fruit salad for breakfast tomorrow! But lunch was light and I'm only 200 calories over for the day really. Tomorrow will be worse!!

B: hash browns, fried eggs, peppered mushrooms
L: mushroom soup, wholemeal English muffin
D: cauliflower/potato mash, vegetarian Mince.
+snacks mentioned above!

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 09/03/2024 17:53

Eeee by God, just home from taking 2 x 10yr olds round the shops on a hunt for 'the perfect swimsuit' for a pool party in a couple of weeks, stopped in at Dunkin Donuts where they had donuts and I had Diet Coke.

Want to stuff my ears full of cotton wool after listening to the incessant chatter for 2 and a half hours, but proud that I managed to abstain from eating my bodyweight in sugar.

43ontherocksporfavor · 09/03/2024 17:54

B- mashed half an avocado on seedy toast. Tea, espresso
L- banana and an apple, a carrot and 2 tbsp hummus.
D- chicken curry
Had a 2 hr dog walk and an hour in the garden cutting back and raking
Will have a couple of glasses of white wine too .

tiredandbaggy · 09/03/2024 19:30

@FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain I feel your pain. I took 3 of my four round the charity shops today and then to the soft play. The wee ones fought constantly and the teen looked morose and I just wanted to drown myself in milky coffee and tray bakes. I had a black coffee and Diet Coke though. I did eat 3 of my teen’s potato wedges but I’m pretending that didn’t happen.

I was down a pound on the scales today bringing my total loss to 10lb. Don’t want to mess this up but feeling quite sorry for myself and like I want to eat crap tonight.

Brunch: smoked salmon + 2 poached eggs on tender stem brocoli - 220

Dinner: mozzarella chicken with cauliflower - 350

snack : double portion of a homemade fast800 flapjack - 260

had all my calls for today but might allow myself a few handfuls of popcorn - my husband pops it in a big pan with hardly any oil so I don’t think It’s too bad and might ward off a worse binge… I know I’m not hungry. I’m just tired and fed up. Why is dieting so much harder at the weekend????

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 09/03/2024 19:46

When did you start @tiredandbaggy 1lb in a week is the recommended amount for long lasting weight loss so you should be feeling proud of yourself!

I know it can feel frustratingly slow when you're looking at the BIG number you want to lose and feel like you'll never get there but try to put it into perspective. It takes ages to put the weight on you just don't notice it happening at first, so it's going to take ages to get it all off and very lb down is taking you in the right direction.

I have a stupidly long list of mini goals I'm working towards which helps to keep me motivated. I celebrate and record on my tracker every half stone, every 5% body weight, every 5 BMI points, every size change. I take photos at the beginning of every month so I can see the changes visually too. I also have an Apple watch and it fairly regularly tells me that my resting heart rate has reduced or my walking respiration rate or my quality of sleep has improved.

Make sure you congratulate yourself for what you have achieved even if you know that there is still a ways to go.

tiredandbaggy · 10/03/2024 09:25

Thanks @FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain it can be hard to retain perspective sometimes - especially when this is weight I lost and gained again not that long ago so I’m desperate to get back to the point I was at 18 months ago. It will only be 3 weeks tomorrow but you do expect a fairly accelerated loss with fast800 and I’m only doing 6 wks of the very fast start so I think I’m pressurising myself to lose as much as possible during this time.

I am also trying focus on longer term goals and on my attitudes around food to try and prevent me from regaining this weight again. Comfort eating is such an issue for me.

I ended up eating a massive bowl of cereal last night (weirdly while watching the apprentice episode about breakfast cereal!!). I think I was genuinely hungry and I’m not beating myself up over it. I’ve still got 3 wks til Easter and am feeling enthused again today.

today’s meals

chocolate chia seed porridge with raspberries - 200

smoked salmon and scrambled egg with rocket 240

halloumi beef casserole : 450

my dad is coming over this afternoon and if I’m feeling snacky I’ll allow myself a homemade chocolate brownies for 175

Happy Mother’s Day to those of you who celebrate - we don’t!

TheRealHousewife · 10/03/2024 10:01

Good Morning

Welcome to the thread @tiredandbaggy. I agree that Fast800 does get results if followed as recommended. The one downside for me was I started losing hair 😯, although I know this isn’t the case for everyone. Has reversed now I eat more calories (without gaining). Congrats on your loss to date.

@katmarie Welcome to the thread. It’s tough finding time for your own self care when you’re busy working and looking after family. Working mums are absolute hero’s! Great sign post to JW @WeirdPookah 👍

Well done on your loss @ThreeRingCircus 👏

@ChickenChipsandBeans @FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain I hope you both soon feel better! And well done on swerving the sugar @FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain 👌

@SewingIsMySuperPower Great to have you join us 👍. I started my weight loss journey at around your weight and I’ve more or less reached goal. You can do; just keep going through the motions and it’ll happen.

@WeirdPookah great loss! 👌Fantastic overall loss 👏👏👏

@grumpypug (I love this tag 😬) Congrats on your loss! 👏

@Jecstar Welcome aboard. I’m a fellow slow loser but nonetheless it all counts and gets you nearer to goal. You’ve outlined a sensible plan 👍

@LemonDrizzle23 I used to love Monster Trucks 🛻😅

Menu
Meal 1 - Roast Chicken, carrots, cabbage, broccoli, broccoli & gravy. Greek yoghurt and chopped fresh fruit.
Meal 2 - Vegetable crudités and guacamole.

Tea, black coffee with inulin & water with acv.

PS Can someone make the sun shine please? ☀️☀️☀️☀️ So ready to bask in some natural warmth ❤️
