Following on from the January thread.

February 2024! Start to get Fit & Fabulous by adopting healthy eating habits & moving more. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now I’m back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Follow along to get Fit & Fabulous in readiness for the long awaited Spring and a bit of sunshine ☀️

@upanddowns welcome! You can do it and with no dads or special diets or foods. We all tend to focus on sensible eating on here with improved fruit and veg, less junk and increased exercise. I've lost 2 stone thanks to this thread!

56.85 this morning so a nice loss from yesterday of over half a kilo.

Porridge for breakfast as usual but not sure about lunch or dinner today yet.

Have a great day 🍾

How long did it take you to lose two stone?

I can manage sensible eating for a while at least, not so great at exercise due to mobility problems, but try to walk several times a week.

LeftyLou · 15/02/2024 19:45

I gained 1.5 this week. Not overly upset by it as a good time was had in Whitby. However, I now won't to focus on getting a loss for every week of lent at least. I am going to start posting my weight daily in lbs on here just to help keep myself accountable. I'll do that starting from tomorrow. I'll still post my usual WOW.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 15/02/2024 20:04

School holiday officially started which means sticking to calories will be hard.

We're out for lunch tomorrow then off to Butlins next week.

LegoTherapy · 15/02/2024 21:20

@upanddowns it took 8 months with calories counting to around 1500 a day. Since July last year I've not been calories counting very much and am a couple of kilos heavier than my lowest but struggling to care. I need to tone up mainly and get back into the swing of things. 9 st 3lb was my original goal then I got into kilos and went for 55kg then 54.5kg and now considering the swimsuit horrorfest I think it needs dropping to about 50kg. Or more but toned. I think my boobs will have to be sacrificed for a flatter stomach and less thigh wobble. I walk a lot. 50 miles a week on average and my thighs wobble. It's so disheartening. I've got some weights and need to use them, and one of those ab roller things, and a skipping rope, and a bike. I just lack the energy and time to use them. I eat porridge with chia seeds and a fuck ton of golden syrup for breakfast every day. 0% Greek yogurt with berries and honey and chia for lunch. Dinner is vegetable soup with those part baked dinner rolls, or pasta, or a burger and chips, pizza, or whatever I fancy. I'm back on intermittent fasting and currently hungry and trying to ignore it like I did last night. I was rewarded with a pound loss so I'll keep going. It just takes some getting used to but within a few days it will be fine. What do you think wlll work well for you? Little consistent changes are good. Add one, keep going, add two, keep going and soon you'll have developed healthier habits that are second nature.

afaloren · 15/02/2024 22:00

Evening everyone. Welcome to the newcomers.

B - Protein yoghurt, banana
L - Corned beef salad, clementines
D - Salmon, green beans, sugar snap peas, chocolate protein pot and a little chocolate truffle egg
S - Hula hoops
E - Dog walk, yoga, step class

Weigh in tomorrow. I don’t feel like I’ve lost anything but we live in hope!

That's brilliant, eight months isn't long!

SW 13st 5.4lbs
CW 12st 9.4lbs

Comedy Central Thank You GIF by The Jim Jefferies Show

Morning everyone. Finally seeing a drop in the scales this morning. Lol @rainbow616 my CW is your SW.
I've been smashing the gym this week, my weights are getting heavier and switched up the cardio to make it tougher.
I'm down to 2 meals a day, try to have my first meal at 1pm then a small dinner later on whenever I'm hungry.

LegoTherapy · 16/02/2024 09:23

Morning all. The IF has resulted in another drop so now over a kilo down since Wednesday. It will slow I know but for now it's great to be back in the game and seeing results.
Well done on all the losses! If you've not lost just keep plodding on and it will happen sooner or later. Consistency is key.

Flowerchild547 · 16/02/2024 12:08

Hi all! So I’ve definitely slipped since having a take away on valentines. It’s just proved to me that I cannot trust myself to be sensible and I definitely can’t have high cal items in the house. My lack of willpower has really shown its self the past two days.
However, I’m seeing it as a blip and now I’m back on the straight and narrow!!
Does anyone have any coping mechanisms for when your partner is a feeder? I have jokingly said to him that it’s like he’s trying to fatten me up!! But I do know that it’s my decision to eat all the things!!

LemonDrizzle23 · 16/02/2024 12:45

@Flowerchild547 I've specifically said to DH to never buy me anything in a sharing packet! I also told him no chocolate on Valentine's Day for example. Whenever he asks if I want anything from the shops, I say no, or I specify exactly what I want and how much.
I think a thing that also helped was him deciding he wanted to get fit too, so we have a shared goal.
Good luck - it can be tricky!

DH and DS are away today, so I booked myself a table at a Vietnamese restaurant for lunch, and made plans for a swim beforehand. Nearly bailed and sat on the sofa all morning! But I didn't. Got up, went for a gym and a swim - my 3rd km this week - and now Mumsnet-ing and eating squid. Good start to the weekend!

LeftyLou · 16/02/2024 13:17

My weight today is 200 lbs.

@LemonDrizzle23 that is a good idea. It's my birthday near the end of the month and thinking of telling my parent I don't want chocolate or a massive cake. Last year he got me a really delicious cake but was so big was eating it for weeks after.

ImALittlePea · 16/02/2024 13:54

Hi all. Struggling over here, this week has been tough and loooooong. Actually had to laugh at my WoF today - the 4lb I lost last week have leapt straight back on 🙄 I think last week's loss was artificially big though, probably due to the interview nerves, and this week's gain is also artificially big with half term bloat. I'm sure next week I'll have a more sensible drop and steady the numbers.

Got the in laws over for dinner tonight, making a chicken and veg pie, mash and greens.

7-ish weeks until my birthday, so if I can sort my shit out I think I can drop a good half a stone between now and then...

Have a good weekend everyone.

LemonDrizzle23 · 16/02/2024 18:22

@LeftyLou I sympathise. My birthday is usually within a week of Easter, so I often end up with cake and Easter eggs to make my way through simultaneously 😂

You can def say no cake. Or get him to get you one, glorious, ridiculously overpriced cupcake / individual slice. Then you can enjoy it on your birthday, but won't be eating it for a week.

Sorry you're struggling @ImALittlePea - scales really do have a life of their own sometimes!

LegoTherapy · 16/02/2024 19:24

@ImALittlePea scales are utter bastards at times. You'll get there!

LeftyLou · 17/02/2024 01:29

*parent = partner.

@LemonDrizzle23 an individual cupcake is a grand idea 😀

@ImALittlePea sorry to hear you're struggling🌻

I keep unnecessarily sabotaging myself and feeling really unhappy as a result that I need to have a deep think to why I keep doing it.

VallesMarineris · 17/02/2024 10:46

Too much has happened all at once. I've fallen into my old binge habits and gained four pounds in ten days. I was getting used to the feel of being able to move more easily and now my body feels it's gained more like four stone.

Things have been spinning out of control, and I can't be everyone's emotional punchbag. The stress is affecting my cognitive abilities. I'm trying to get through all the paper decluttering and life admin so that I can think straight. I don't want to think about food at all, and almost everything in the house is on-plan. Had to cancel credit cards because of possible fraud, so any spur-of-the-moment food impulse buying is out of the question. Suppose that's an unexpected plus.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/02/2024 11:47

Sorry to hear that @VallesMarineris If it helps, you need something like an extra 12,000 calories to put on 4lbs, so it could be water retention/bloating that are tipping the scales. Do you feel up to a few days of healthy eating, lots of water, some exercise?

Sending motivational encouragement to everyone who is struggling.

I have been off the boil for a couple of days, but some hidden small wins. I fitted comfortably into the jeans I couldn't do up on New Year's Day, and went out for food with friends last night, plenty of calories from the food, but I was VERY restrained on the alcoholic.

So no sabotaging hangover this morning, I've got exercise plans later, and won't be drinking for the rest of the weekend.

Todays menu

B - protein bagel with grilled bacon
L - not sure yet
D - beef/orzo pasta dish with some calories saving amendments to bring it under 500 calories.
Exercise - some kind of strength class to be decided.

Weather looks ok here tomorrow, so will go on a proper big walk.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/02/2024 11:49

@ImALittlePea a half stone in 7 weeks is definitely doable. Slow and steady wins the race!

VallesMarineris · 17/02/2024 12:06

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo thank you for encouragement. There's no junk or anything sweet in the house anymore, and I think the binge has run its course. I've got my jug of tea made and salad and protein in the fridge. I'll definitely walk in the evening to collect teen. Other exercise will be catching up on neglected housework.

LegoTherapy · 17/02/2024 12:39

@VallesMarineris Flowers deep breath, maybe a walk, park the binge and keeping going forward. It happens to us all but doesn't define us or equal success or failure, it's just a little rain shower in an otherwise sunny week and the wind will blow away those clouds.

NothingTraLaLa · 17/02/2024 16:00

I’ve not been around for a week or so as we’re having the bathroom done and the scales are packed away somewhere, so no WOW. But with two family birthdays, meaning meals out and lots of cake (I had to eat the cakes; I made them and they were delicious) I suspect that my trend is no longer downwards. This week, I will mainly be trying to undo the damage.

VallesMarineris · 18/02/2024 00:47

@LegoTherapy I like your weather analogy :-)) I think the storm is over now. I walked for about forty minutes in the evening, ate on plan, and had about one litre of redbush tea. Laundry and tidying.

WeirdPookah · 18/02/2024 09:10

Wow, ok, so that Was. A. Week.

I guess when your baby turns 10 it's a big deal!

Been eating mad things all week, pasties, party food, birthday cake, leftovers, pancakes, chocolate, crumpets, out for a meal, more pastries, more party food, more leftovers, scones!

I haven't weighed in this week and refuse to do so, as also my period turned up with miserable headaches.

Back to school routine tomorrow, though this term is absolutely manic with extra-curricular trips and clubs. Going to be meeting myself going backwards.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 18/02/2024 09:16

@WeirdPookah I've got a week in Butlins on the dining plan and in an apartment directly opposite the waffle hut planned starting tomorrow. I do not have high hopes for my willpower managing to hold its own 😂

Had a sneaky peek at the scales this morning before official weigh in day tomorrow and it looks like I'll be on track for a 2 or 3 lb loss this week if I can behave myself today.
