January 2024! Fresh start & develop new habits. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Doing WoW a day early again due to work - it’s been a difficult week with work being very busy, plus 2 family birthdays to eat and drink through 🤣 But I’m pleased to be down 0.2kg and 0.5” off my waist despite all that 🎉
SW 70kg
30/1 62.6kg
TW 60 then 56kg
Waist 30.5”

Will keep going with my food/alcohol approach (moderation!), but once I’m into the second week of Feb I need to get moving again 🏋🏻‍♀️🧘‍♀️🏊‍♀️ My spring goal is weight bearing exercise alongside the weight loss.

AnnieCambs · 30/01/2024 11:10

Praying for ease for all who need it today.

I do hope all of you get the news you're hoping for.

It seems there's a few members who are around the same weight as me. As of today I'm giving the scales a break for 6 weeks - to allow my mind to be at ease for my next 6 week goals....which is to build my eating house with a more solid foundation - working on looking at past relationship with food, stress triggers and how to better manage stress, what my body now needs from me at age 44.

I will also start posting menus soon.

@TheRealHousewife yes, the strength conditioning is impacting positively on few levels! Though I do need to increase my NEAT (non exercise activities). Ie walking, parking a little bit farther, walking little bit faster. Just being a more active person in general.

AnnieCambs · 30/01/2024 11:25

Ahh you sound upbeat regardless of the challenges and celebrations. I started strength conditioning 4 weeks ago, really by accident and its been great. Only short time everything is so much more tight, and I'm happy with my silhouette in my fave clothes. Sincerely hope for you to set and work on your Feb goals 😊

ThriceInALifetime · 30/01/2024 12:09

Hi I haven't posted in nearly a month. Have not been watching what I've been eating, usual colds in the family and January blues! Will need to remember and weigh tomorrow. Have just been for a 5k run/ walk which is something at least.

ImALittlePea · 30/01/2024 12:31

Managed to stay on track yesterday barring a small chunk of blue cheese I had a work last night - had just within my IF eating window though!

Today's plan:
L - salad made up of lettuce, tommies, cucumber, red onion, pomegranate seeds, halloumi and a sweet chilli drizzle/glaze. Followed by greek yoghurt with mixed berries and a drizzle of honey
D - feels like the hundredth attempt to have it this month but all being well - risotto! The kids eat one variety (so far) which is onion, garlic, pepper, bacon, pea and pesto. I finish it with some parmesan rather than creme fraiche (as my mum always did). DH and kids will have garlic bread but I'll avoid it
S - just been to a cafe and had a small oat latte. That should be it for today

I've got a mixed bag today - shift was cancelled today (again - getting fed up now) but it's turned into a good thing as I have managed to get a docs appointment for an issue I'm having with one of my legs, and I've also just found out I've got an interview for a new job next week, so I can start to prep for that. But first I'm having a tiny nap as I'm not sleeping at all well at the moment.

Continued hugs to everyone who needs one ❤️

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 30/01/2024 13:19

Hi everyone. I had a sneaky peak on the scales this morning, and there doesn't seem to be any lasting damage from my birthday blow out. I'm being pretty good today too, so I'm hoping to end the month 4lbs lighter than I started it. Granted that mostly came in a post-Christmas whoosh, but a loss is a loss.

Good luck to everyone weighing in tomorrow, and virtual hugs to everyone having a bit of a time of it just now.

I'm looking forward to February and it starting to get a bit lighter - I'm in Scotland and it's dark for sooooooo long in deepest winter!

ImALittlePea · 30/01/2024 13:24

Meant to post a pic of my lunch, so here it is. There's little better than halloumi with pomegranate 🤤

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 30/01/2024 13:29

Oh looks lovely @ImALittlePea everything looks pretty with a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds!

afaloren · 30/01/2024 13:34

@ImALittlePea that looks so good! I love squeaky cheese.

@TheRealHousewife thank you! We didn’t have any Christmas fripperies but it was still a really nice time. We had the pub/restaurant practically to ourselves, everyone’s doing Dry January and on a diet! 🤣

ImALittlePea · 30/01/2024 13:43

Squeaky cheese with tiny jewels 🥰

Oh my goodness @ImALittlePea that plate of food you’ve posted! I’m drooling 😋👏👌

afaloren · 30/01/2024 22:01

I was concerned having a drink last night might trigger me to eat crap today or skip the gym but I’m pleased to say that wasn’t the case!

B - Protein yoghurt, banana
L - Chicken sausages, salad
D - Mackerel, broccoli, green beans, protein yoghurt
S - Popcorn, protein shake
E - 2 x dog walks, yoga, weights at the gym

I don’t usually weigh until Friday but I might join in WOW tomorrow to see how much I’ve lost over the month in total.

LumionaMoonsplash · 30/01/2024 22:20

Everyone is doing so well 🏅.
It's been a weird last 7 days, last week my energy was on the floor and my cravings were sky high, this week my energy has improved and I'm not hungry. I've completely lost my appetite. This is not me at all but it's been wonderful slowly enjoying small plates of colourful healthy meals, rather than my usual stance of shovelling in big portions of delicious but unhealthy meals.

I did my knee in overworking it at the gym so took a rest day yesterday and it's on the mend.

I decluttered 3 bin bags of baggy shapeless clothes that look huge now I have a waist again and have an order of smaller clothes arriving this week. I've remeasured my bra size, gone from a G to a DD, I'm excited to wear proper bras again instead of stretchy crop tops. I have some more decluttering to do, I bought a batch of bigger summer clothes last year as I couldn't fit in my old clothes, they'll be too big this year 🤦🏻‍♀️.

PatienceOfEngels · 31/01/2024 06:57

SW 77kg (beginning October 2023)
CW 68.9kg
Interim GW 68kg
GW 63kg

WoW -0.7kg this week - more than expected. A total of 1.2kg this month which is definitely more than expected. 8.1kg since beginning October and just 1kg to go for a healthy BMI (now on 25.3). That's my goal going into February.

Today:
-boiled egg, rye toast w butter, coffee with milk
-vegetarian scotch broth
-beef rendang with rice and whatever extra veg my DH outs in.
-fruit at school, greek yoghurt with honey

Probably no walk today apart from dropping Dc at school (only 1km round trip) and walking up and down stairs at school. YWA this evening - day 30!🎉

Will get myself prepared for February this evening - set up journal and pick new yoga series.

Thanks for all the support this month, sharing your progress, and @TheRealHousewife for such a great thread.

ItsTapasTime · 31/01/2024 07:11

Morning all.

5:2 and 12 hour fasts. Dry January.

Started 01.01.2024. January done 👍
SW: 74 Kg
CW: 71.0 Kg
Loss this week: 0.8 Kg. Feel and look dehydrated, so not sure how accurate this loss is.
GW: 63Kg (June holiday), then 61, possibly less? A small size 12 👙

Will finish dry January tonight! 🎉

My clothes are already feeling a bit looser, although this may be down to the extra exercise classes I’m doing.

LemonDrizzle23 · 31/01/2024 07:15

Good morning. Joining in for the last WOW of Jan. Have spotted the new thread and will be heading over tomorrow!

My plague has just about gone, so I'm getting back into movement a bit more. I'm sorry to read others have had some health scares. Wishing you well.

Very small 0.1kg loss this week as have been sitting on the couch for most of it....

SW: 97.5
CW: 94.9
5% : 92.5

EndlessGuineaPigCycle · 31/01/2024 07:19

Morning all.

WoW today, and a 0.9kg loss this week, taking me to a round 5kg loss since 2nd Jan, and into the healthy BMI range. Also achieved my first mini goal of 77kg. Feeling very pleased with that

SW 81.2 kg
CW 76.2 kg
Next mini goal 75 kg
GW 73 kg (then I will see how I feel)

ImALittlePea · 31/01/2024 07:29

Forgot to weigh 🤦‍♀️ so I'll stick to my normal WoF. Good luck to everyone today!

buzzofthebumblebee · 31/01/2024 07:52

Lost another 1lb so 6lbs total since I started 1st Jan. I'm pleased with that. Hoping for the same in Feb. Top half I'm now a comfortable size 12. Bottom half small 14 (but I'm a pear anyhow). Want to turn chunky parsnip legs/thighs to more svelte carrots, and banish some more bulge tummy, upper arms etc.

SW 12 0
CW 11 8
GW 11 2

Other stats for January:
Alcohol = 0
Chocolate = 0
Biscuits = 0
Other Sugar = 2 (bakewell tart after long run, and meringue at friend's dinner)
Crisps = 4 tortilla chips before I remembered I was cutting them out for jan
Exercise = 75 km run, 4 pilates/yoga, 6 gym (weights / strength)

Yesterday was a light food day to make sure I saw a loss today!
B - yoghurt & berries
L - squash & carrot soup, 1 slice brown seeded toast
D - roast salmon, broccoli, 2 spoons brown rice & peas

Goal for Feb:
Keep off sugar, chocolate, crisps, snacks etc
Limit alcohol to weekends only
No comfort eating as a means to manage stress
More of the same

Thanks @TheRealHousewife for the wonderful supportive thread you have created, month after month. Well done to everyone else who has worked hard to loose and maintain. See you in February ...

LegoTherapy · 31/01/2024 08:05

Ending the month the same as I began which is rubbish but at least it's not a gain I suppose. Well done on all the losses!

ThreeRingCircus · 31/01/2024 08:16

Hello all, another 1lb loss for me so that's a total of 10lb lost in January which I'm very pleased with!

SW: 15st 1lb
CW: 14st 5lb
GW: 11st

I'd like to get into the 13s by the end of February as my next mini goal.

Today's plan:

B - coffee and a banana
L - greek yoghurt, raspberries, flaxseeds and honey
D - baked gnocchi made with a sauce of cottage cheese and sun-dried tomato purée with peas and spinach. Not sure how that one's going to go but I'm trying to make the sauce a lighter version of what I'd normally do!

I'll join the new thread tomorrow 😁

afaloren · 31/01/2024 09:35

Don’t normally weigh in on Wednesdays but joining in for the last day of the month.

This week so far - 3.5lb off
Since Jan 01 - 13lb off

Very happy with that!

WeirdPookah · 31/01/2024 10:14

@LumionaMoonsplash that is really great! I was holding my old jeans up with nappy pins lol, so I got some in December.

@TheRealHousewife thanks for hosting such a supportive place all January! Onwards to February!

I haven't weighed in, waiting to my normal Friday.

Been for a walk to Sainsbury's, to get a specific thing, which they obviously didn't have! Cold cold wind rising out there.

B: black bean burrito
L: minestrone
D: fish fingers, cauliflower/potato mash, peas, mushy peas

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 31/01/2024 10:34

Posted on the Feb thread by mistake, but 5lbs off in January, pretty pleased with that after all the birthday celebrations. I'm where I was last autumn, so hoping to knock off another half stone by the summer.
