Following on from the January thread.

February 2024! Start to get Fit & Fabulous by adopting healthy eating habits & moving more. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now I’m back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Follow along to get Fit & Fabulous in readiness for the long awaited Spring and a bit of sunshine ☀️

I’ll join in again! Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife

I managed to lose the princely sum of 1lb in Jan but I did lose my Christmas gain and manage to not massively overdo things on a work trip with high cal food and very generous hosts! I did overdo it a bit but recovered it quickly. And weirdly, I don’t lose as easily when I’m not drinking. Bring on Feb! 😄

I got new scales which weigh differently and threw me a bit. I have adjusted the figures accordingly, if I am 3lbs heavier now, I was 3lbs heavier at the start right?

I have a couple of things on in Feb but should be able to work around them.

Plan is to continue with Noom and exercise 3-4 times a week.

Good luck everyone!

@baileybrosbuildingandloan Sorry I missed your previous post. 6lb loss whilst navigating Birthday Celebrations is epic! That can not have been easy with all the temptations around you! Well done 👏👍

@Spudlover Well done! 1lb loss is still a win in my book 😬 That’s a 1lb nearer your goal 👍.

Urgh, just realised the shop was out of my cup-a-soup the other day. So that means another bejewelled halloumi salad for lunch today! I'm not particularly upset by this!

Can I ask about supplements or boosters for health/wellbeing/weight loss. I saw someone mentioning apple cider vinegar. What are the benefits of this? Is there anything else like this that is a health booster (if it aids weight loss too then bonus!)?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 01/02/2024 09:30

Hello, please can I join?

I was very overweight in my 40s (14 stone). I lost over 4 stone in time for my 50th birthday and kept it at about 10 stone for a few years. I was also very fit - gym every evening after work.

Then I had a back injury which stopped me exercising, followed by lockdown. I piled 3 stone back on over 2 years. I managed to lose a stone last year but am now stuck at just under 12 stone.

I really want to get back down to 10 stone, so need to lose 2. Low carbing usually works for me but I just can't get motivated.

HighlandCowRose · 01/02/2024 09:38

I didn't post yesterday, I fell asleep on the sofa 😳

Nothing particularly interesting happened yesterday, I succumbed to some chocolate, plant Cadburys, was surprised by how close it tasted to the regular bar, or I've forgotten it's been so long. No palm oil either which I think is in the regular bar.
Little win. It took me over my calories for the day but I try to look at it as a weekly allowance rather than daily.

buzzofthebumblebee · 01/02/2024 10:00

Checking in on the Feb thread for focus and accountability.

In good news - I lost another lb between WOW yesterday, and 1st Feb weigh in today.
In bad news - I celebrated my Jan loss & a friend's birthday with big slice cake yesterday. Admittedly it tasted delicious, but regretting it now as the sugar (I presume) has given me a really bad headache, one of the painful hangover-type ones. Lesson learned. Sugar and I really don't get on. When will I learn?

SW 12 0
CW 11 7
GW 11 2 for starters.

Here's to a fit and fabulous February indeed. Thank you @TheRealHousewife

WeirdPookah · 01/02/2024 10:24

@Gingernutloses100biscuits glad you decided to come and join in!

@ImALittlePea I don't think there is much real evidence to support the claims about apple cider vinegar. There is however plenty of evidence that drinking it regularly will damage the enamel on your teeth!
Supplement's that are more likely to be useful are a multi vitamin, extra Vit D. since it's impossible to get enough from the quality of sunshine in the UK in the winter! I've been taking collagen supplements, as I am stuck in a cycle with hair loss all occurring at the same time, and I believe it has helped with re-growth.

@buzzofthebumblebee now when I eat something really sugary I end up with terrible trapped gas.

OK, so January, I lost 20.5lbs total.

I weighed in today, this week was obviously a bust, I didn't expect anything better but still disappointing.

My husband is away for work, and this is always a trigger to eat things I know I shouldn't because some part of me thinks I can "get away with it" if nobody sees. I have done a short Joe Wicks workout as I have a headache, prepped my lunch, making something my girls and I like for dinner.

TheRealHousewife · 01/02/2024 12:17

@ImALittlePea As you might be aware I’m no advocate for the ‘magic bullet’ approach to weight loss. However, that said I’ve read that taking a little ACV in water prior to meals helps to lessen the sugar spike. This would lessen cravings and long term reduce calories by not snacking. Although I’m not a snacker I do have a wish to reduce my sugar spikes! I’ve been reading a lot around insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, diabetes and blood sugar levels in general and a few sources say ACV can help. Apple Cider Vinegar & Blood Sugars

Welcome to the thread @EmmaGrundyForPM 👍I am similar to you in that I acquired a spinal cord injury a few years ago which put paid to my previously very sporty lifestyle. I quickly gained quite a few stones as I carried on eating what I did prior. I absolutely overhauled my diet and identified my TDEE and I used that as a guide to my calorie intake. I found that being in the right head space for successful weight loss is key! In regards to exercise and weight loss, it’s said that you secure weight loss via a healthy diet and any weight loss effect from exercise is minimal. That said when one is able to exercise freely you have more leeway in regards to calorie intake and I do miss the buzz from exercise and feeling fit and toned.

Im pleased you’ve joined us again @buzzofthebumblebee 👍

@WeirdPookah Fabulous January result 👍👏

Happy February everyone 😊

Well I gained 1 lbs this week so I am ending January on a maintain overall.

I am not going to dwell on it too much because if I do I will not be getting any further forward and may even find myself heavier by the end of this month.

On the positive side, I have been adding in some small exercises mainly 20 mins walk on my lunch break and some strength training and have lost 9 cms around my body.

This week I am going to focus on my diet more as I really need to remember the motto "you can't outrun a bad diet"

I am going to aim for a mini target of 4lbs this month.

WeirdPookah · 01/02/2024 12:39

Ah, apologies, my knowledge of ACV is all about the "skinny drinks" and "cleanses" and so forth, I hadn't read anything about effects on diabetes issues and that it might actually be useful. But still be aware of the tooth enamel issue!

LeftyLou · 01/02/2024 12:43

@Gingernutloses100biscuits welcome to the thread 😊I love your username

LumionaMoonsplash · 01/02/2024 12:48

I take ACV in tablet form every morning along with all the other supplements. No idea if does any good?

ImALittlePea · 01/02/2024 13:31

Ah absolutely @TheRealHousewife I'm certainly not after a magic bullet (if only, eh), rather I have seen it mentioned (alongside other things such as collagen) on here, instagram and so on, and just pondering on the health benefits of these and supplements in general. I feel like I'm hurtling towards 40 now, and I don't take any supplements at all - maybe it's time to investigate what is out there to boost my health in general. As I say - if a side effect of that is a bit more stability with weight - bonus! Off to Google.....

HighlandCowRose · 01/02/2024 14:02

WeirdPookah Wow what a fantastic loss for January

Bethechange2024 · 01/02/2024 14:05

Can I join please. Managed to put on weight in January rather than losing the Christmas weight as I had planned. I aim to just cut down initially and not snack as starting any diet that is too strict tends to make me fail and then eat everything in sight.

SW 11 2
GW 8 7

Gisl for February 4 lb

TheRealHousewife · 01/02/2024 14:35

Welcome to the thread @Bethechange2024 Bang on! Don’t knowingly set yourself up to fail by being too restrictive. Being consistent and ensuring your way of eating is sustainable is sensible 👍

Afternoon! Well done to all of you seeing great results for January.

A day late for the weigh-in; I’ve maintained since last week so nothing too exciting. Two pounds down over the course of January which I’m perfectly happy with. In my head I think it’s more likely to stay off if I lose it slowly, but I fear that may be misinformation. Half-remembered stuff about set-points and metabolic rates. Ignore me, I’m rambling.

Hellooooo all,
@TheRealHousewife tour plan and your thinking really resonated with me. Good luck with embedding your last and final goal.

To everyone else - your posts are so refreshing and uplifting.

Wow wow wow @LeftyLou at the squats, I love this goal please share how you progress x.

@PatienceOfEngels Thank you for inspiring me to yoga. I did YWA last night and slept like a baby after ages.

I have Something to say ro each of you, but woe evening chores await!

Excited for tomorrow's weights day! Black skinny jeans made me feel so good today. Hoping fit another YWA tonight.

😊😊😊😊

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/02/2024 18:37

Hello February, and hello to all!

@LegoTherapy I saw your post on the Jan thread about your face. I hear ya. When I lost a fair bit of weight my face just fell to the floor. I wish someone had told me 10 years ago to lose weight before the collagen went. I'm going to look up that 10 minute massage someone mentioned.

Today's menu

B - boiled egg & toast
L - home made soup, falafels & humous, packet of quavers
D - pinch of nom dirty macaroni

Exercise - none 😳 but I plan to get back on it tomorrow.

Good luck with the new month everyone, it was light when I left for work this morning, which I was very excited about!

ThreeRingCircus · 01/02/2024 20:11

Hello all! Just checking in for Feb. Food has been off track today but I have done a 5 mile walk so the exercise bit was alright!

HighlandCowRose · 01/02/2024 21:08

Felt utterly ravenous today after work, Thursday is always a late dinner due to dd swimming lesson so had 3 rice cakes when I home then totally gave in and had 4 lotus biscuits as well.

B toast with hummus
L roll, vanilla latte
D seashoot salad, roasted med veg, smoked tofu & spicy kimchi
S 3 rice cakes, 4 biscuits, wine & crisps.

wiltingflower · 01/02/2024 22:39

I'll be joining again! Thank you for the new thread @TheRealHousewife!

I lost at least 1kg since the start of January. I'm now somewhere between 0.2 - 0.7kg off of my goal weight - it's hard to tell because although I weigh daily my weight changes depending on what I've eaten (salt, water bloat) and whether I've been able to pass stools.

I'm hoping to hit my target soon and then I'll be focusing on increasing my fitness and maintaining my weight. I've been struggling since being ill recently, I've lost strength and stamina and really need to build this back.

maybein2022 · 01/02/2024 23:12

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife

Really lovely to have so many people on board- although I am pretty rubbish with replying individually I try and read everything.

I had a good January and lost exactly a stone. Plan to carry on what I was doing which is:

WW online (mainly to keep a check on portion sizes etc)
No Diet Coke or similar drinks or artificial sweeteners
Sort of intermittent fasting- I didn’t have breakfast at all in January and it seemed to suit me
Minimal UPF, most things made from scratch and aim for 30 plants a week
Use the see how you eat app to photograph all food
Sweet stuff (other than fruit) ONLY if I have made it myself, eg a chocolate bar- no, a homemade brownie, yes. A handful of chocolate buttons- no, melted dark chocolate buttons mixed into yogurt with fruit- yes.

I am fortunate though that I love cooking and do have time to do it.

Today’s food was:

Homemade red lentil and tomato soup with 1 slice of Jason’s grains and seeds toast (plain, no butter)
Homemade almond butter cookie
Frozen pineapple
Chicken and vegetable curry with Greek yogurt
Greek yogurt with raspberries, 1 tsp peanut butter and a small amount of dark chocolate melted in

3 coffees with skimmed milk and a little bit of coconut sugar.

afaloren · 01/02/2024 23:46

First February daily update!

B - Protein yoghurt, banana
L - Lentil and bacon soup, clementines
D - Mackerel, green beans, broccoli, chocolate protein pot
S - Protein shake
E - 2 x dog walks, yoga, step class

I will weigh tomorrow but don’t expect to see any difference from Wednesday. Going away for the weekend with friends so might not update until Sunday. Have a good weekend all x
