30 plants a week

PrawnDumplings · 11/01/2024 07:38

Improving my microbiome and therefore my health and energy is my current aim.

Good gut bacteria helps absorption of nutrients from your food, which supposedly means you have less cravings.

I'm going to list my 30 plants here if anyone wants to join me.

Fruit, veg, nuts, seeds, spices all count 🍆🍑🍌🍊🍎🍓🍍🍒🥑🥒🌱🥔🍋🍉🌽🥙🥦

45 plants this week, without even trying!

This is my normal. I'm happy about this.

Alloveragain3 · 25/01/2024 22:57

In the last 2 days:

Oats, chia, flax, courgette, red pepper, tomato, turmeric, black pepper, orange, passion fruit, cherry, mango, carrot, celery, apple, banana, almonds, walnut, tea, coffee, olives, chili flakes, peas, kale, potato, oats, brown rice, white onion, cucumber, blueberries, sweet potato

However (!)

6 of these fruits come from one single glass of juice

The walnut was a lick of a spoon containing walnut butter I spread on my son's sandwich

The white onion, tomato and pepper were in a Dorito's salsa and the sweet potato was fried into crisps!

The peas, kale and potato were in a ready meal...

So, seems healthy, but... not so much. :/

I didn't realise oats, tea, and peanut butter counted!

cordeliachaseatemyhandbag · 20/02/2024 18:58

Does balsamic vinegar count?

Happyinheels · 22/02/2024 09:52

I am trying to do this to improve my gut health and overall energy levels!
One thing is an idea from Tim Spector on creating a diversity jar - get a large Kilner jar and fill it with a variety of nuts and seeds. Use it on top of porridge, yoghurt etc. I grabbed a few bags from Aldi - their whole foods section has a good variety. There's 13 different varieties in my diversity jar 😊

30 plants a week
WeirdPookah · 22/02/2024 10:34

@Happyinheels that's a neat idea. I do similar with bean/lentils when I batch cook. They mostly behave similar ways to cook, but you get different nutrients etc from using the different varieties.

I got a count of 58 last week, up to 39 so far this week.

Happyinheels · 22/02/2024 15:23

@WeirdPookah ooo I never thought of doing it with beans - I am so rubbish at using legumes in my food! I need to try and get some core recipes to try out.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/02/2024 16:29

Asda do a nice 5 bean mix - it's not the type with some sort of dressing on it, just different beans. They're good for chucking into a tomatoey veg soup.

Happyinheels · 22/02/2024 22:53

Ah great, thanks for that! I'll have a look.
Has anyone seen The Blue Zones with Dan Buettner? Where he visits various parts of the world where he looks at the diets of centenarians. There are some great ideas on that - including a longevity stew kind of thing, bit like a minestrone which includes all sorts of plants and pulses.

WeirdPookah · 04/03/2024 10:51

@Happyinheels we watched that, it was quite interesting.

Something I took from it was practising the range of movement on a daily basis. I often sit cross legged etc and pretty flexible because I never stopped doing in, working for years with children!

But what I have been doing is the flat footed squat, so as the programme said, it puts your hips, knees and ankles right at their most extended, and I do this twice a day whilst brushing my teeth!
Been doing it a good while now, and my extended position is so much more now. Noticed I my bottom was just grazing the floor.

My total for last week was 51, pleased with that!

Wanttolikekimchee · 04/03/2024 21:08
