If you have a bit more to lose and will be doing this for a while and want a nice supportive crowd to hang out with while you're at it this might be the thread for you.

Hi, I'd like to join in too if OK please.
I need some support and accountability to get myself back in shape! I can usually get rid of a stone and then I self sabotage, so fed up with it and feeling crap all the time.
SW 18st 13lb
GW 14st 13lb (to start with then re evaluate).
Good luck everyone

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 03/01/2024 14:31

No problem at all @RedBoxWithABow with so many people we may well fall into a different pattern more of a suggestion of what has been working well. Well done on your loss so far.

@ststillplentyofjunkinthetrunk thank you 😊

Morred · 03/01/2024 18:00

Can I join? I have a lot to lose, not entirely sure how much yet. I am "big boned" - genuinely, I know this is the oldest excuse in the book! but I have always had large wrists, broad shoulders, etc. I don't think I've been inside my "healthy" BMI weight range since I was about 11 so I'm not sure when I'll want to stop and don't want to set a completely impossible goal.

CW: 95.5kg (BMI 35 = obese)
GW: 75kg (BMI 27.7 = overweight)

GW is a weight I have previously been able to maintain and was happy with that.

BMI 'healthy' for my height (5'5") would be between 50.5kg and 68.1kg.

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 03/01/2024 18:09

happy for you to join @Morred the plan is aiming for steady progress over a relatively prolonged period and developing some good habits so it sounds like it could suit you.

I would like to join please.
Current weight is 18 stone and my first target weight is 14.10 as i remember feeling good at that weight.. then trying to get to a target weight off 12 stone. My issue is alcohol... I'm trying not to drink on week nights..i eat fairly healthily. And gave up smoking yesterday too!

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 03/01/2024 20:27

Hi @ettieb well done on giving up smoking! Kudos for the ambition of giving up cigarettes and going on a diet at the same time. If you can manage it I'm sure you'll feel loads better.

ME/CFS has really beat me today and the 2.5k steps I managed was way too much even. My target is 4K a day so a bit disappointed.

Breakfast: coffee

Lunch: half carton mushroom soup, 1 slice gf toast with cheese and tomato, 2 chicken drumsticks

Snack: coffee and banana

Dinner: salad (1k+ calories!) with sausages, chicken, cheese, gf pasta, lettuce, carrot, cucumber, tomato, sweetcorn, spring onion and garlic sauce

snack: will have an options later

on track for the day even with the salady binge for tea

My problem is definitely alcohol (wine!) as well! I've decided to do dry January if you'd like to join me. It will not be easy for me at all! Although weirdly I just felt 'ready' but we shall see. No cravings yet but it's only Wednesday 😂

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 03/01/2024 21:33

Went to adventure golf with DH and DD today and had lunch there, choices were crap so I just had a skinny ice latte while they had pizza and garlic bread, luckily I had a pack of beef jerky in my handbag as an emergency snack so had that while we were walking round the shops afterwards to tide me over.

I really really want this to work this time, I am so fed up of being fat and the aches and pains associated with it!

Ditto! I think you reach that point don't you where you've just had enough! I really hope it works for you this time 🤞 for us all!

Totally, every pound / kilo off is a step towards your goal. Persistence and determination are the way.

Can I join in, please? I want to loose 32kg, I prefer counting in kg then stones. I’ll be happy with 25kg loss , though. I’m 47, 167cm and 87kg weight. It’s harder for me to breathe now. My weight rocketed within last two years, when I’ve got WFH job. I enjoyed it and celebrated with wine. I decided to have Dry January. My second day on diet. I’ve been doing YouTube workouts five times per week since September , but more for fun, to feel better in overall. Now I’m on diet too.

PlumpAndGrump · 03/01/2024 23:46

Hi everyone.

I did well today. Had a protein bar for "breakfast" on the go as we were out at the park, a random lunch of a vegetable cup a soup and half a tin of baked beans at the kids dinner time because I had left it too late, and then spicy fajita pasta for dinner with lots of veg in it - tomatoes, onion, peppers, green beans etc. I even managed to have a few of my Christmas chocolates as pudding while coming in under calories and did almost 15k steps today.

Would anyone care to share their general meals for dinner for a week? I'm struggling with ideas for dinners.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 04/01/2024 00:08

@PlumpAndGrump I tend to have whatever DH and DD are having but switch out the carb for veg grown above ground.

So for example

  • bolognaise I'll have with green beans and asparagus instead of spaghetti
  • enchiladas, I'll have the meat and sauce in lettuce leaf wraps instead of tortillas
  • pork loin steaks with corn on the cob and broccoli instead of rice or chips
  • beef or chicken stir fry with cabbage, sugar snap peas and mushrooms then DH and DD will have less veg but some noodles too.
  • casserole with no potatoes in it, so just meat, stock, mushrooms, carrot etc DH and DD will either have potatoes as a side or crusty bread with butter, I'll have a serving of cauliflower, babycorn or green beans depending on what I have in.
elfintinsel · 04/01/2024 00:13

I'm at SW 88kg
Tw 63kg
But more realistically 68kg
No idea where to start. I've Crohns and after years of being underweight I have found drugs that actually work. I process food properly now but have got into bad habits of eating lots just to maintain weight. I've put all that weight on in 2 years.
Think I'm probably perimenopausal too.

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 04/01/2024 09:47

Hi @elfintinsel & @Turefu

@elfintinsel Gosh that sounds hard. You're almost trying to establish a new set of normal habits from scratch I should think. I would think you may find it helpful to get an estimate of your total daily energy expenditure on a site like this one (you can adjust age / height / exercise level ) https://tdeecalculator.net/result.php?s=metric&age=40&g=female&cm=168&kg=88&act=1.375&bf=&f=1

and then track your calories if you aim for a 500 calorie a day deficit you would lose 0.5kg per week.

Welcome and Good luck

Calories Needed for a 40 year old, 88 kg Female

A 40 year old female who is 88kg needs an estimated 2,157 calories per day

Thank you. This sounds sensible and not too much extra effort either. dh and the kids would likely have some extra veg too.

PlumpAndGrump · 04/01/2024 10:52

Does anyone else find that the more they sleep, the less motivated they are?

Yesterday I had about 4 hours sleep and I got so much done with the kids and around the house, ate okay and hit 15k steps. Last night I slept just over 7 hours and woke up feeling groggy and just wanting to sit on the couch.

This is when I start craving carbs and eating out of boredom, or eating sugar for an energy boost.

I'm going to make a coffee, take my vitamins and supplements and get on with things. I have piles of washing to sort and would like to get the kids out a walk.

Hope everyone has a good day.

RedBoxWithABow · 04/01/2024 10:52

Hi everyone, doing well so far - managed to keep OMAD every day since Jan 1 so now in day 4 (countdown app helps so much!) and while I'm not weighing myself yet (will do on Monday) I definitely feel lighter and in better mood overall. I usually struggle a bit around 3pm and I know that if I push through that - I will probably be fine until 7pm when I have my meal. Yesterday I had two pieces of mortadella, 2 gherkins, 1 serving of brown rice, 1 serving of homemade chicken curry (with yoghurt rather than cream) and a handful of green beans. I did have a dark chocolate digestive cookie after as a desert but was still way below my calorie target (1.5k) and still felt full and well.

We are having vegetable cream soup (carrot, parsnip, sweet potato, 1 white potato, onion, garlic) for dinner. While DH will finish curry-rice leftovers, DD will have fish and rice with greens and I'll go for a halloumi salad.

I am using this time to learn more about low-carb version of OMAD as I want to start slowly gravitating towards that over time. Hope everyone else is having a good day.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 04/01/2024 11:00

@PlumpAndGrump a really good quick lunch which can also be used as a side is a warm salad. I will put whatever veg I have in a microwaveable jug, usually Asparagus, mushrooms, green beans and baby corn because I like them. A drizzle of water and then lightly cover. 3 minutes in the microwave, drain and then add a teaspoon of real butter and plenty of seasoning.

You can have a massive serving of that for under 150 calories. For lunch I'll add a couple of hard boiled eggs or tear up some wafer thin ham/chicken and mix that through.

It only takes a few minutes to make but the butter and seasoning makes it taste richer and the quantity you can have means you feel full.

TheNinthLock · 04/01/2024 11:01

Can I join?

SW 116.5 kg
TW 95 kg

Edited to add: that is first target. Will aim for more once at 95, but small steps…

My weigh in day is Tuesday but could shift that forward if needed?

OldTinHat · 04/01/2024 11:05

That's very fast. I lost 5st in 18m via an NHS class. A stone a month is pretty extreme unless you've had weight loss surgery. The recommended loss is 1-2lbs a week.

OldTinHat · 04/01/2024 11:07

I need to hop on the scales, don't I? My 5st loss has become a 6st gain! Hang on...
