If you have a bit more to lose and will be doing this for a while and want a nice supportive crowd to hang out with while you're at it this might be the thread for you.

Oh bloody hell. 16st 7lb. 5'7.

There's me checking in!

PotatoFan · 04/01/2024 13:44

I lost control a bit last night, couldn’t sleep and had too many unplanned late night unhealthy snacks. I’ve added a meal category to NutraCheck for late night snacks now so that I can see how much it adds when it happens (bit of a problem area for me sometimes), and I’ve now logged what I ate last night. Actually still got my green tick for the day surprisingly.

In previous diets, that would always throw we off, @PotatoFan. I’d feel like I fell off the wagon and may as well give up as I’d undone all my hard work.

I learned a while ago that to gain a pound of fat, you’d need to eat about 3,500 excess calories. I found that really comforting because if I overate by say 1000kcals, I knew it wouldn’t really lead to massive and immediate weight gain and I could just reduce my calories for the rest of the week to bring the deficit back down.

Moier · 04/01/2024 14:18

I'd love to loose 3 to 5 stone.
As long as it's not anything to do with Slimming World. Which is scientificly proven not to work.
Thing is I'm disabled.. l can swim and l do.. but any " gym" kind of exercise l can't do.

summerlovingvibes · 04/01/2024 14:19

Joining.
Have about 4-5 stone to lose, realistically I reckon I could do 3 but 5 would be amazing.
Re-joined SW last night after a failure of attempt at 1:1 Cambridge end of last year.

PotatoFan · 04/01/2024 14:21

@Moier i can’t even swim right now and barely any walking as have ME/CFS but luckily losing weight is more to do with what you eat than your exercise levels

Moier · 04/01/2024 14:29

@PotPotatoFan
I have Fibromyalgia from trauma of breaking both hips and pelvis.
Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis.
I have a stairlift and wetroom etc etc.
But l do feel the benefit of swimming. I've gone from 10 stone to 19 stone in the nine years scince the accident.. that's a stone a year.
I used to go to the gym. I walked everywhere. I went dancing every weekend.
Yes l agree about the eating.
That's my downfall these days.
Especially eating out.. l never choose the healthy option.

Can I join please? I got to my heaviest weight ever over Xmas. I have 6 stone to lose, and my eldest son's wedding in a hot country at the end of July!

I am now back to IF since Monday, and have been extending 18/8 slightly when I can. Today was 7pm yesterday to 1pm today. I use My Net Diary and try to stay under 1600 cals, and track my protein & fibre.

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 04/01/2024 16:09

sure @UtahGirl12 I'm planning to weigh myself and update once a week on a Monday but with this many people having some people do Monday and some people do Tuesday could be better.

owlyboo · 04/01/2024 16:15

Stayed on plan all week so far and not felt deprived at all. Got an air fryer for Xmas and been really impressed with how easy it is to use and produce nice low fat meals.

So far this week for dinners/tea depending where you are!

Tuesday: chicken kebab on flat bread with salad and roasted veg
Wednesday: minted lamb kofte with salad, flat bread and low fat minted yogurt
Thursday: roast

For lunches had a mixture of soups/poached egg etc.

I'm also doing dry jan which doesn't come easily to me usually but I feel different, think I've hit my rock bottom with how I feel about myself so I'm ready to spend the work needed to right those wrongs!

BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh · 04/01/2024 16:24

Is anyone else very unmotivated by exercise?

I’m trying to build up my fitness and stamina. I have a treadmill and try to do 3 x 20 minute brisk walks each day when I’m working from home. I set the treadmill to 8km/hr (5 miles/hr) so I’m walking quite quickly and my heart is pumping, but it’s not overly strenuous and means I walk around 10,000 steps a day.

The bit that annoys me is that my treadmill calculates calories burned. One of my 20 min walks is 17kcals.

Surely that’s not right? I’m considering putting a sticker over the calorie counter so I don’t see it as 17 calories doesn’t seem worthwhile.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 04/01/2024 16:39

I'm doing this program and an Aqua aerobics class once a week. Aqua aerobics is the only class im brave enough to join at the moment.

couchtofitness.com/

I actually enjoy doing it and the feeling afterwards but it is usually a bit of a job convincing myself to actually start the workout.

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 04/01/2024 16:51

@BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh I find the best way to lose weight is to focus on the calorie deficit. As you say the extra calories burned during a workout can feel like they would have quite a minimal impact.

I have been going to the gym, because I wanted to be able to walk further and faster and get stronger. So I measure gym success as its own thing if that makes any sense. I'm not up to 8 km/hr but I am walking faster and can really feel the difference when I'm out and about.

@BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh no that's not accurate! Do you wear a fitness watch? That would give you a more accurate reading.

No but I’m seriously considering getting one.

Nearly cried when I saw 17 calories. Like @stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk , I’m focusing on diet for weight loss and then exercise for other benefits but it really peed me off today.

owlyboo · 04/01/2024 18:27

@BusinessSecretsOfThePharaoh I went for a walk with the dog today (and she's a fat bulldog so not as fast as you walked but we did do hills etc. for 48 mins and burnt 249. It's still not loads but more than your treadmill is saying. That takes into account my HR as well as age/weight etc. I wear a garmin

SisterAgatha · 04/01/2024 21:17

I weigh everyday but only log my saturday result usually.

today was:

porridge with maple syrup
3 x terrys chocolate orange pieces
chicken breast with spices
Massive bowl of broccoli
A whole swede hahahah (not joking)
About 150g of butter, oh dear

I did a hiit class earlier in the week and am booked tomorrow but will see how I go as I ache!

also to the PP if the treadmill has no heart rate monitor it won’t have any idea how many calories you as a person of your own weight and height and body composition burned. Walking outside is much more motivating I find, especially if you have scenery which a lot don’t sadly, and it burns more as it’s not a smooth ride. A purposeful walk to the shop or something makes you go a bit faster too so gets more cals off.

SisterAgatha · 04/01/2024 21:18

I also wear a Garmin. But I don’t eat any burned calories back unless I’m maintaining.

owlyboo · 04/01/2024 21:20

@SisterAgatha I don't eat any back either. Definitely not reliable enough for that! Just an extra bonus hopefullly 🤞

I'd like to join. Ashamed to say I need 4-5 stone off. It feels insurmountable.
I started the 121 diet today, I did it before and it worked. But 4 stone feels like and awful lot.

I have 4 stones to lose too. What is the 1 to 1 diet?

coronafiona · 04/01/2024 21:31

Turefu · 04/01/2024 21:44

I had one protein shake today ( about 300 cal) and three bowls of homemade lentil soup. I had one light workout too, half an hour.

Onthegrid · 04/01/2024 21:55

Can I join please, I need to lose 10st but I would be happy to get to 5st in 26 weeks or somewhere near. Over the years I have tried most diets, fad or group, this time I am just trying to eat smarter, smaller portions of normal food. My exercise level is non existent due to back and knee issues but I will be building this up gradually.

SW 24st as of 1st Jan
First target 19st and to be able to walk 5k

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 04/01/2024 22:18

hi @coronafiona & @Onthegrid welcome.

I suggest we update weights once a week, but there are so many of us that we can have different teams update on different days.

4 stone is my aim, being realistic I haven't been under that weight since 21. 6 months is perfect. Started by ordering hello fresh as they are controlled in calories, lower portion size than id serve myself otherwise. Dp want to loose about the same and dsd needs to loose 5 stone!
