If you have a bit more to lose and will be doing this for a while and want a nice supportive crowd to hang out with while you're at it this might be the thread for you.

@stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk thank you and that's definitely what I am aiming for next week!

PotatoFan · 15/01/2024 21:29

Does anyone buy or make salad dressing? I’ve been medically advised to be eating low carb and low fat so avoiding added sugars and sticking to olive oil in small quantities when oil is needed. I’ve just looked at what feels like hundreds of labels and Google pages and I’m no closer to having a clue whether to have salad plain or with some dressing for a bit of flavour, and what that would be.

KrazyboutKillian · 15/01/2024 22:37

A decent olive oil , a very small amount of vinegar ( I use balsamic but that is sweet ) half teaspoon or less of mustard , stir it up and a teeny bit of salt ( only add the salt last )
it’s easy , I mainly have the ingredients in already , and I know what’s in it
also nice on roast veg as well as salad

Thinkingthin · 15/01/2024 22:52

@PotatoFan Dr Wills Miso Tahini is great. All their sauces are. Some more low call than others.

@stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk Thanks so much for your lovely encouragement and the forewarn. I don’t expect to keep losing at this rate (I imagine a lot was water), but I think the v hard part will start when there’s less loss to motivate. Really hoping to see it through. Glad to have this thread 😊

Levo · 16/01/2024 06:21

Forgot to post my figures yesterday.

4.4lbs off, pleased with that for a first week loss.

SW 208.5lbs
CW 204.1lbs
TW 165lbs
38.6lbs to go.

RedBoxWithABow · 16/01/2024 07:24

@stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk , thank you for this - very useful and entirely possible explanation. I guess when I was heavier whatever I ate for OMAD was going to be under calorie threshold but now that threshold is lower which makes total sense. I got MFP app and will start paying more attention to calorie intake and macros going forward. Didn’t have any sweets yesterday, only 2 dates (still sweet but not processed at least) and was at 1.5k calories so let’s see if this works. Will try to keep myself under 1.4k calories from now on.

Realist2022 · 16/01/2024 07:50

So i am disappointed. I haven't lost this week. I thought I had been fairly good so am hoping this is an increase in muscle mass and a decrease in body fat ....

owlyboo · 16/01/2024 08:03

Weigh in day for me.

SW:100kg
CW: 97kg

2 kg off for me this week which I'm over the moon with! That's 3kg in two weeks and I haven't been on a diet at all! Just mindful eating, lots of use of the new air fryer, no alcohol and minimum 10k steps a day.

Good luck to my fellow Tuesday weighers!

RunningKatie · 16/01/2024 08:54

This morning I've sorted out my scales so the app works properly now.
Wrote everything down yesterday, definitely ate too much but less than if I'm just boredom eating. Today I'm doing the same and increasing my water intake again.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 17/01/2024 08:42

I ate a little too much yesterday too, I was just so hungry all day. As much as I love fruit and salad they just weren't filling me up yesterday - I always find it harder on cold weather as I crave carbs and cappuccinos. Only went 80 calories over my target but felt hungry all day.

Hurryupharry · 17/01/2024 09:01

I’m struggling to get myself back on it ! I have barely been to the gym in weeks and there are still biscuits and chocolate everywhere I look. One of my struggles is that I’m not in any routine. I find when I’m trying to lose weight I have to have time to focus on it. Hopefully things will start to settle soon.
Well done to so many of you though who are really getting some fantastic results!! I catch up most days with the thread and it’s always fantastic to hear of the successes - and the lovely support when we’re feeling challenged!
Fingers crossed I manage a proper’Day One’ soon. 💪🏻🙏🏻😊

Penguinpairs · 17/01/2024 11:35

Well done Englishgirl. I think you should be proud of yourself for staying so close to target. I was also feeling the cold and need for carbs. I was doing fairly well until DH suggested Christmas pudding which I love, so trying to be extra sensible today but I think it's even colder today!

EnglishGirlApproximately · 17/01/2024 12:58

Thanks @Penguinpairs . Today I've discovered I quite like a coconut milk cappuccino and I don't need sugar in it so lower calories, which is helping keep me away from the biscuits! I just wish someone would eat the last bit of Panettone now...

PotatoFan · 17/01/2024 14:08

Party time…. After a week stuck every day around 19st1-1.5 today I finally broke under the 19 mark and was 18st13.5. 😁

i don’t want to see 19 again now!

Bumblebeebum23 · 17/01/2024 14:42

Well done @PotatoFan always feels great to move down to the next stone bracket 😃

Gabriella83 · 17/01/2024 15:49

Well done @PotatoFan on getting down below 19st.
Hope everyone's having a good week!
I need a new hobby....baking cakes is not my friend. I think I need an exercise hobby but this weather is not very inspiring!

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 17/01/2024 19:06

Well done @PotatoFan !👏

@Hurryupharry I find when I’m trying to lose weight I have to have time to focus on it. 💯🎯You can know precisely what you need to do but it absolutely takes time to plan healthy meals, organisation to shop for the right ingredients, the time to cook what's healthiest rather than what's easiest.

@EnglishGirlApproximately Now I have a genuine urge to try a coconut milk cappuccino.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 17/01/2024 22:02

@stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk do it! It's less than half the calories of a regular one so you can enjoy it without worrying 😁

Morred · 18/01/2024 07:52

Well done @PotatoFan ! I am down in the 93kgs this week which is great. Just need to keep at it. I am always enthusiastic at the start and then I get bored and go back to mindless eating.

slamfightbrightlight · 18/01/2024 08:58

Dipping my toe in. 18st2 this morning, heaviest I’ve ever been. Have been putting on weight rapidly since lockdown 1 and it wasn’t great before that either 😬😆

Current weight not only causing aches and pains, but I’ve become a bit of a hermit and don’t like going out socially anywhere, feel self-conscious all the time, hate seeing people I haven’t seen for a long time. I definitely do better with accountability and have previously got down to 12st and felt great (around 2017) so hoping the thread will
help.

I’m a classic binge eater, chocolate and bread being my particular vices, food is my comfort item (no longer a smoker and don’t drink all that often) but it’s also killing me so need to sort myself out!

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 18/01/2024 09:27

Hey there @slamfightbrightlight
Food is an unhealthy coping mechanism for a lot of people and one I think many of us can relate to.

I recommend writing down everything you eat for a few days you don't even need to work out the calories, just write it down. The act of writing it down is often enough to interrupt the habit when you're eating food for the wrong reasons. At the end of the day look over the list and estimate the calories and think about what you want to eat tomorrow and not eat again tomorrow.

Get a decent estimate for your total daily energy expenditure and decide how fast you want to burn fat. A 1000 calorie a day deficit will lead to you burning a kilogram of fat per week, which would mean you would lose 5 stone (32 kg) in around 7 months.

Welcome and good luck.

Thanks @stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk - the daft thing is I am really, really informed about nutrition and fat loss and the mechanisms and know what works/should work - I just can’t stick to it 😆 if I cut chocolate and bread out of my diet I’d lose the weight in no time. But I’d also be miserable so I need to find some balance and set some rules for myself.

Sparklyhat · 18/01/2024 11:38

Hi......might try and join in with this thread if I may. Just been reading it from the beginning

I'm age 33, 20st 9lb. I want to be 13st 7 so I have just over 7stone to lose. Had success with WW about 10 years ago (got to 13.7 and was happy) but I am now at my heaviest ever weight.

I know I need to cook more, eat fruit and veg. Plan and meal prep better.

I really need to do this. My blood pressure is high and I have other things which are caused by my weight. When it 'clicks' in my mind I have the will power and motivation to do it. Hoping it is going to click into place with me again, as I find staying motivated the hardest bit. Either I am or I aren't. Any tips for being/staying motivated?

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 18/01/2024 12:26

Hi @Sparklyhat Any tips for being/staying motivated?

I can only speak for myself here but I found that for me it had to be about health I don't want to be 60kg or a size 8, not in any real way that would be enough to motivate me, because I haven't got a clue what being 60kg looks or feels like. It's a completely alien landscape. Intellectually I know I was 60 kg at one stage, but I have no experience of an adult version of me that weighs that much. I picked it for the simple but brutal reason that it is dead centre of the healthy weight category.

I have ample experience of self harm and recognise that at times I was using food as a coping mechanism and sometimes it absolutely crossed over into a form of self harm. The motivation to do this, is for me, a determination to not do that anymore.

I am worth taking care of, I deserve to be healthy, I deserve to feel ok about the things I eat and the space I take up. It took me an embarrassingly long time to get to this point but I'm here now.
