Anyone else up for sorting their shit out, starting tomorrow 1st Jan.

I need a complete overhaul, I'm far too fat and look a mess. It's making me feel miserable so I'm going to do something about it.

I would love some company.

I have realised that it is exactly 15 weeks until I am presenting at a conference. Not only do I want to look good on stage, but I have a more specific goal of having a might more toned bum before I have to climb up the steps onto the stage in front of a few hundred people.

Hedonism · 02/01/2024 22:11

A pretty good day here too - I've stuck to no snacks and no booze, and swam 50 lengths. I did, however, have some trifle for pudding after my tea, because I made one for a family do tomorrow and made a mini one for us to test (it was good 😋).

I'm going into the office tomorrow so I've made a big pot of tomato and chickpea stew, I'll take some of that to heat up for lunch instead of hitting the sandwich shop.

Now there's some good motivation 😁

I threw away a load of biscuits today; felt guilty at the food waste but would have felt guiltier eating them!
Put the children's leftover Christmas chocolate in their cupboard so I won't be tempted with it on the side! Tiny steps but feel useful!

Can anyone suggest easy recipes I can make for dinner that will keep me on track but also fill up a huge husband and two children who ask for snacks as they are eating 😂

rockingbird · 03/01/2024 07:00

Morning all.! Did well yesterday on calorie counting and removed all temptations left over from Christmas.. 5k walk yesterday (very wet) spin class this morning. Feeling determined 🤩 hope everyone is doing OK. Happy Wednesday all xx

Iwishiwasasilentnight · 03/01/2024 07:28

@dancinginthewind now that’s motivation.

@littlemousebigcheese I’m going to eat a carb free version of what the rest of the family eating so last night we had fish with breadcrumbs on for those who like it, new potatoes and veg, I didn’t have the potatoes. I will do the same this week with chicken casserole and not have any mash with it and for recipes with rice I will have cauliflower rice.

Well today was day 3 of doing yoga in the morning! I seem to have lost a pound already in my soft start to my diet. And yesterday I managed day one of no chocolate, cake, biscuits or sweets despite there being loads around the house. It seems a total ban is easier for me to manage than damage limitation.

There is still a cambert in the fridge and part cooked bread. I’m debating if I should have it for lunch or not.

DustyLee123 · 03/01/2024 07:30

I swapped my normal cereal breakfast for full fat yougurt/fruit/granola for the last couple of days, but found I was ravenous by 10.30, and ended up eating chocolate. So I’m going back to cereal today to see if it’s better for me, to stop snacking.

Have you tried Greek yoghurt? It’s higher in protein.

It was Greek

Then definitely do whatever helps you avoid the chocolate.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/01/2024 10:10

Do you like overnight oats? I make mine with 40g oats, Greek yoghurt and frozen fruit, I make about 3-4 days worth in advance depending on the date on my yogurt and it’s so filling. I sometimes add half a scoop of flavoured protein powder to it as well, chocolate is especially nice. 👍 cereal doesn’t fill me up, but I find fruit and yog on its own give me high blood sugar, the oats seem to slow down the sugars and keep me fuller.

To be honest, I prefer hot milk on cereal. I’m thinking about making porridge in advance and heating it up in the morning 🤔

TheShellBeach · 03/01/2024 13:19

I've lost a stone in six days.

Am now 18st 10lb.

Expect the weight loss will slow down now that the water weight has pretty much gone.

I'm eating fruit and cream for breakfast. It's lovely, but I'm craving eggs and toast.

I've tried to avoid bread. And have cut down on spuds.

devildeepbluesea · 03/01/2024 14:25

Well done everyone on losses so far.

A good day yesterday. Had a tempeh and veg stir fry with noodles last night with ginger, garlic, chilli, lime and a teaspoon of sesame oil. It was lovely, having the same thing tonight.

Did Iron Day 3 (glutes) and a run combining hills and sprints this morning.

Made Mexican bean soup earlier which I can chuck a handful of shredded chicken into. Smells beautiful.

I weighed today and am very surprised to learn I’ve lost about 8lb in the past 6weeks or so - thanks presumably to the weights I’ve been lifting. I haven’t really watched my food / alcohol intake until this week.

Desecratedcoconut · 03/01/2024 14:44

Pulled myself together and went on the scales, it's not quite as bad as I thought it would be, a little over 13 stone. My focus is on cutting out junk food, alcohol and going to sleep early. No heroics yet - I'm doing the least I can get away with and still lose weight.

dancinginthewind · 03/01/2024 14:51

@devildeepbluesea could you share the Mexican bean soup recipe? I am trying to get more legumes in my diet.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/01/2024 15:12

Terrible start to the new year in terms of diet so far, and my exercise class isn't back til next week. (Excuses?!)

I always really start when work goes back, which is Monday 8th this year

DD2 will be back to uni so I'm going to set up the rowing machine and exercise bike in her room I think.

Zumba gold on a Monday, then some form of exercise most days. I already do 8k steps easily at work (teaching) so will just add a bit to that to get to my 10k steps.

A friend and I have decided to up our walking when we meet instead of always sitting with coffee or dinner.

And I've bought a cute diary (and matching pens) in which to write logs of exercise, food tracking and general targets and thoughts.

TheShellBeach · 03/01/2024 15:14

Well done @devildeepbluesea

devildeepbluesea · 03/01/2024 15:48

@dancinginthewind I made it up as I went along but this is it:

1 large onion, finely chopped
about 3 cloves garlic, crushed
ground coriander, about 1tsp
ground cumin, about 1tsp
smoked hot paprika, at least 1 tsp
tin tomatoes
squirt tomato puree
tin of mixed beans in water
small tin sweetcorn
veg stock cube
cherry tomatoes, halved

fry off the onion and garlic for 5mins
add the spices, fry another minute or so
add tinned tomatoes, tomato purée and veg stock cube with about half a can of water. Bring to the boil then simmer for about 10mins
Blitz the lot with a hand blender then return to a simmer, add the beans, corn and tomatoes. Simmer 5mins then it’s ready.

I chucked in a bit of shredded chicken too.

cardibach · 03/01/2024 16:22

I’m in from tomorrow (out for a friend’s birthday today).
I lost just over 2 stone last year with calorie counting and seeing a PT. Back at PT tomorrow after a 3 session break (I was ill, then she was, then it was Christmas) so that’ll be a killer! I’m going to weigh in the morning as I need a bit of a shock to get going, and anyway if you see it at its worst you at least get the motivation of the easy early gains!
I weigh 8n kilos so 8 have no idea what it means (🤣) I find that easier x though I convert loss to lbs so that I DO know what it means…
Before Christmas I was 111.7kg and I’m 5’10”. Need to lose about 4 or 5 stone really, but aiming to get under 100kg as a start.

TheShellBeach · 03/01/2024 16:50

I weigh 8n kilos so 8 have no idea what it means

Is that a typo, because I do not understand it.

It’s many typos!
Should say ‘I weigh in kilos so I have no idea what it means’ (because I’m too chicken to want t9 know my actual weight being the subtext here).

TheShellBeach · 03/01/2024 16:57

@cardibach

Ah, I see now.

I do not weigh in kilos because the loss seems so small. I mean, if I weigh in pounds I can be delighted to lose 2 - 3 lb a week. It feels crap to only lose 1 kg.

Swearwolf · 03/01/2024 16:57

@ccardibach I do the same! It's less of a shock emotionally.

But saying you've lost a stone is much more exciting than losing 6 kg.

Well it is for me, anyway.
