Anyone else up for sorting their shit out, starting tomorrow 1st Jan.

I need a complete overhaul, I'm far too fat and look a mess. It's making me feel miserable so I'm going to do something about it.

I would love some company.

Have you successfully lost weight and kept it off? What other tips can you give us?

I lost 7 stone and kept it off for 3 years so far. I calorie counted my way down, didn't exclude any food group, didn't beat myself up over a day where I went a bit nuts. My lifestyle now to then is a night and day shift but it didn't happen overnight. I slowly added things to my routine that I could manage once the more important building blocks were set in stone.

My diet was the first thing that had to change. Simplest way I found of doing this was calorie counting and weighing my food, if I wanted pasta/rice I had it but the correct portion size for my goals. Once I could keep on top of this without having to think about it I joined the gym and that has gone from 2 days a week to 6 over time. Sure it's possible to do all these things at once but it's a lot harder. As I say a slow and gradual shift in lifestyle seems to be the way most people have success long term.

I'm not a PT or a coach but because of my success I've been asked by a few family members to help them and they're all doing well! Over the last year I've helped my Mum and Aunt lose 3 stone each and my step dad 4 stone. I was even doing them meal plans at one point.

I’m starting today! I weigh 13 stone. Want to lose two stone at least. I’m doing dry January to give my body a break as I’ve drunk a lot of alcohol and going to start by reducing sugar and carbs/snacking and reassess in February. It needs to be a lifestyle change as it’s been years of yo-yoing and I’m now at my heaviest ever and it has to change.

MumofSpud · 01/01/2024 10:01

How did you get on?

KatSlatersCoat · 01/01/2024 10:13

I weigh 12st 3.5lbs. Less than I thought to be honest. Still far too heavy as I'm only 5'4 tall.

I'm 13st 2.8lbs and want to get down to 11st which is my pre-pregnancy weight. Determined to do it before turning 40 later this year.

rockingbird · 01/01/2024 11:21

Weight 11st dead on 😩 going to try and track my weight weekly.. I'd like to get to 9.7 but that seems such a long way off!!! Fml is wasn't expecting 11st one. Well it's certainly given me the shock I needed.

If you look at it as losing 1lb a week you will be done by the end of may. That doesn't sound too bad when you look at it like that.

I'm in x
I'm not at my heaviest as I've already lost 3 stone but still need to lose another 3 stone asap

I’d love to join you, I love a January overhaul! I couldn’t weigh myself on Thursday as I smashed my scales accidentally by dropping them on the bathroom floor! So I have no idea what my gain has been this week but I’d imagine 5/6lbs. I will weigh in at SW on Thursday so I’m hoping a few really good days will reduce the gain! I’d lost 12lbs up to my pre-Xmas weigh in so I would like to get back to that asap, then lose a further 12-14lbs to get to target.

today I’ve walked the dog and now I’m watching happy valley with a cuppa. I would like to do a run but realistically I’m not going to, so it’s a lazy day for me before returning to work tomorrow.

my plan for Jan is:
dry January
do sw 100%
do my skincare every day
run 3-4 times a week

It's really encouraging that you have already lost three stone. Well done, that's amazing. How did you achieve this?

I’m in, although will start properly tomorrow as we have a pudding planned with new yr meal! I’m envious of the person who said kids back tomorrow, we are not back til the 8th. I find eating well a bit harder whilst they are home. But today reduce the grazing that we are all used to over Xmas then tomorrow, all healthy. My scales are in kg. I was 78kg this morning and want to get to 70. Also plan to start weight training this yr so any tips getting started, very welcome.

Beginningless · 01/01/2024 11:50

ps I meant to say OP that’s encouraging that you’re not as heavy as first thought!

Hedonism · 01/01/2024 11:55

I'm in! I lost 3st a few years ago and maintained for ages, but one of those stone has snuck back up on me during 2023, so I need to lose it again. 1lb per week will get me back to 9.5 stone by May (I'm only 5'3").

I reckon planning is key. I am going to add lunches into my meal plans as that's where I usually run out of time and end up grabbing crisps and cheese, and then snacking all afternoon. Also planning in my exercise at the start of the week so I don't make excuses on busy days.

Thanks, I was expecting to see roughly 13st on the scales so I'm happy.

Well, I've had a nasty shock.
I cleaned my scales two days ago, stood on them, and nearly fell off in horror.

They seem to have been weighing me very light for ages.

I don't know which weight is correct. I'll have to go to see the nurse and get an accurate weight.
Anyway. Two days ago the scales claimed I was 19st 10lb. Last week they claimed I was 17st 2 lb.

I truly have no idea now, but today, after two days calorie counting, I'm down to 19st 1.6lb.

I've just started to take Orlistat again.

Good luck, everyone.

Might be quicker to pop to boots and check your weight unless you are able to get in GP quick.

Hi everyone, start weight for me 18.1
Serial binge eater and constantly think of food. I have been obese all my adult life and I am now heading toward 50 and something needs to change.

I will be calorie counting.

Minnie123456 · 01/01/2024 12:31

Can I join please.
Not sure what I currently weigh, I'm waiting on dh to get out of the shower so I can weigh myself. I'm not looking forward to it- I weighed 13 stone 1.5lbs when I last weighed myself in the middle of November. I've did nothing but eat since then as it was "Christmas"

I'm going to cut down on snacking, drink more water and just try and move more. I do have MFP but I'm hopeless at remembering to log/count calories.

I'm aiming for 1l/b loss a week and aiming to loose a stone for now, my target date will be 13th April as I know this week will be a struggle to get on track. I'll weigh myself at a weekend.

Not sure if it's relevant to you but a few years ago I had to send my weighing scales back for repair as they were still under warranty. I was told that scales should only be put on a hard floor, never carpet. Was also told to not move the scales. I was pulling them out every time from underneath a unit and weighing myself on a floor with carpet. The scales behaved once I stopped moving them and kept them on a wooden floor.

@KatSlatersCoat The scales are on the bathroom floor, but none of the floors in this house are level.
I've moved the scales all over the house in the past and they say something different in each room.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 01/01/2024 13:15

Yep me.I feel wobbly and shit.
Would like to firm up and lose at least a stone by the spring.

TheShellBeach · 01/01/2024 13:16

So anyway. I've weighed myself on the most stable part of the bathroom floor.

I can find out for sure by going to the surgery and asking to be weighed.

TheShellBeach · 01/01/2024 13:17

I do know that when they're not wobbling they're accurate.
