New year sort my shit out.

Anyone else up for sorting their shit out, starting tomorrow 1st Jan.

I need a complete overhaul, I'm far too fat and look a mess. It's making me feel miserable so I'm going to do something about it.

I would love some company.

@devildeepbluesea is that Caroline Girvan? I'm going to give her a go this morning weekend
@Swearwolf that sounds miserable.

cardibach · 05/01/2024 22:22

@dancinginthewind I do one of her kettlebell workouts sometimes. Excellent.

I was doing really well today until it got cold this evening. My heating is in, but something about cold weather just makes me miserable and makes me want to comfort eat or drink alcohol. I managed to restrict myself to one slice of toast and butter and one gin, but I’ll have been over my target calories by a bit (nit the full amount as I had about 150 in hand).

I don’t know how I’m going to manage with the cold weather forecast this week. It just does my head in.

devildeepbluesea · 06/01/2024 06:56

@dancinginthewind yes, I first tried her before Christmas, did the Advent series then went straight on to Iron. There’s so much free content on YT - she also has an app which has more, that’s £80 per year and I’ll get that when my gym membership runs out.

I agree re soup - it’s the perfect breakfast really!

Having a day off full-on healthy eating today cos I’m meeting friends for tapas and wine! Will still track everything and I’ll do an hour’s Group Fight first (like Body Combat, great fun).

Swearwolf · 06/01/2024 10:14

I've just braved the scales - only half a kg up! This is a good starting point and I feel like I'm still with you all. I won't be getting in much activity, but can eat sensibly and definitely am not drinking anything.

Swearwolf · 06/01/2024 10:32

And I'm going to have to eat sensibly as the shopping isn't coming until later and I've been too sick to do top-up shops, so the cupboards are pretty bare.

Swearwolf · 06/01/2024 10:45

My first actual weight goal is 4kg, half a stone. That will match the last weight I felt good about myself. I think I can do that by the end of February.

Rowgtfc72 · 06/01/2024 17:41

2lb off. I've been more careful with snacks but have had 2 days not walking as it hammered it down.
Not calorie counting but carefully considering what I eat before I put it in my mouth. I watched a diet programme that said if you fancy something wait ten minutes to see if you actually want it. The control group generally found they didn't actually want the food in the end.
Opened a tin of posh biscuits earlier- normally I would have half emptied it. I ate 2 and put the lid on.

My Christmas present from DS arrived today - three boxes of Gilbert's chocolates, at 1000 calories a box.

I got DH to hide them.

@Desecratedcoconut I'm the same. I really struggle if I cut things out completely. So I'm cutting down on junk and try and get out for a walk at least once at the weekends. Once the brighter evenings are here I will try and get out more often. I didn't go for a walk this weekend as it's icy and don't fancy breaking a leg.

Stayed the same this week, I was expecting a gain as I was still in Christmas mode last week.

Anyone any easy filling lunch ideas that I can take to work?

Eat one chocolate a day and enjoy your lovely present. Whatever method of weight loss you are using, one chocolate a day won’t scupper it.

But I can't just eat one chocolate.
If I open the box, I'll eat them all.

I know it’s hard, but you really can.
Or ask your husband to bring you one from wherever he’s hidden them if you really can’t!
I genuinely think denying yourself all the good stuff is unsustainable- plus if they are hidden what happens next? They go off? One day in the future you eat them all?

I totally get this, I'm the same! I can go without chocolate no problem if I don't have any at all, but as soon as I have a little I get a taste for it and it's all I can think about. And if anything it's then worse if I don't have any in (or if it's hidden) because I'll then try to replace it with something else and eat all manner or sugary crap... and still not feel satisfied!

If putting them away completely works, go for it.

devildeepbluesea · 07/01/2024 13:30

Hi everyone.

I had a bit of a day off yesterday, had tapas and prodigious amounts of wine! However, all has been tracked and so far I’m winning the battle against hangover munchies! I did a bit of a run, plus dog walk and weights earlier, so now lolling on the sofa. Dog will need to go out again later.

I’m making chicken noodle soup for lunch and Quorn bolognese for tea, both fulfilling my new food criteria of being filling and healthy.

TheShellBeach · 07/01/2024 14:27

Might be quicker to pop to Boots and check your weight unless you are able to get in GP quick

Just noticed this comment from @Sunshineandrainbow on page 2 of this thread.

One of the advantages of our living in a tiny Scottish village is the ability to get doctor and nurse appointments immediately. I can ring in the morning, someone will answer the phone within two rings, know who I am by my voice, and have me booked in for the same day - or occasionally the next.

One of the disadvantages of this idyll is that the nearest Boots with weighing scales is 58 miles away. Our little village pharmacy hasn't got scales. They're very quick with prescriptions though. I can ring the surgery in the morning for a repeat and the prescription is at the pharmacy in the afternoon.

Ah. Apologies then. I shouldn’t assume stuff.

That makes a lovely change from the rest of today.
I feel like I've lurched from ableist thread to ableist thread, reporting horrible posts.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 07/01/2024 17:46

I was always starting properly tomorrow (back to school/work for me) and will weigh in the morning.

Today I've done the driving to take DD back to uni. We no breakfast, then some lunch at Wetherspoons next to her accom. Dinner has been a bowl of pear and chocolate cake (home made), but I've had it FOR dinner, rather than as pudding after dinner.

I’m so sorry that’s been your experience and that I may have contributed to it!
Actually, I should just assume everyone knows their own body/psyche best and is making sensible decisions for it, really…

Shiny88 · 07/01/2024 18:13

Can I join in?
I used to be a size 8/10. Had my daughter almost 5 years ago - was loosing the 'baby weight' and then covid hit and lockdowns made me gain so much weight. I went up to size 16/18.
Iv been trying for 2 years previously to loose but I loose 4lb then o go back on the binge 🙈🙈.
I can't stand to look at myself anymore in photos so this year is the year I sort my shit out!

I weighed myself on the 1st and I was 15stone 8lb will weight again on Monday.
I'm opting for the carnivore diet. Iv tried every other one so giving this one again 😂

You didn't! You had the grace to apologise - most people argue and argue.

I was so heartened to read your response, honestly.

Swearwolf · 07/01/2024 19:11

Welcome @Shiny88! Maybe a silly question, but what is the carnivore diet (assume lots of meat, not exclusively meat?)?

Iwishiwasasilentnight · 07/01/2024 19:41

Welcome @Shiny88.

Well I was supposed to be doing a soft start this week before really starting tomorrow and I’m definitely an all or nothing kind of girl! The week started well but I fell down when I was tired, tantruming/ ill children and too much Christmas chocolate still on display.

The true start is tomorrow.
