January 2024! Fresh start & develop new habits. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I'm in! I lost 15kg last year but gained over half back so I'm looking to get back on track starting tomorrow morning.

Will be doing intermittent fasting eating lunch and dinner with exercise in the morning. Not sure yet what meals will look like but big increase in vegetables

DaisySnowdrop · 27/12/2023 21:30

Hello all, I am starting tomorrow but weighed today (have just finished all my Christmas chocolate and polished off the rest of the cheeseboard).

I’m shockingly 14st10 as of today and would love to be 11 stone by my birthday in early June. It’s also my brothers wedding in mid July and I’d love to be 10st 7 by then! Time shall see- I’m doing nutracheck and starting on 1300 calories a day.

I’m also going from zero exercise to 8000 steps a day. I completely WFH so it’s hard to exercise sometimes so this is my first step!

Good luck everyone, I’m excited for this journey together :)

DomesticElf · 27/12/2023 21:32

Placemarking!

RainDropsStorm · 27/12/2023 21:37

Hello everyone, I will join if that's ok.

I have three stone to lose and need to increase my exercise. That's as far as I've got so far Grin

Does this thread start on January the 1st?

Ivy09 · 27/12/2023 21:43

I'd like to join if that's ok please? I have around 21lb I would like to lose (although it could be more, I can't face the scales this week!)

TheABC · 27/12/2023 21:55

Ads me in. I will do inches instead of scales. Intermittent fasting and the blood sugar diet.

rainbow616 · 27/12/2023 21:59

I'm in! I'm on it next year. I'm back to work after having one year off for Mat leave, so need to do some lunch and dinner prep! Good luck everyone 😊 x

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 27/12/2023 22:12

Thanks for the bmnew thread @TheRealHousewife

I'll have my 1st WOW on the 3rd. 2023 was an awful year, but I'd really like to get my physical and mental wellbeing on track next year.

Back to the calorie counting for me (I like nutracheck) because I find that works when I'm motivated. Need to stop sabotaging myself at weekends though.

Exercise wise, I'd like to get back into a good routine with three strength focused classes a week. I want to make a concerted effort to get outside more. It's too easy to go from home in car to work and back home again without ever really getting outdoors. Especially in the winter.

Undisclosedlocation · 27/12/2023 22:18

This sounds good, Im in. In an ideal world, I want to lose around 7pounds but more importantly, I need better habits around diet and exercise that will work for the long term with an emphasis on health and longevity
It turns out, menopause sucks and I’ve come to realise that I can no longer get away with a passive approach. I’m not sure yet what sort of diet I might follow, although it will definitely include intermittent fasting- I’ve been skipping breakfast for a lifetime naturally. Finally I’m trendy in at least one minor element of life 😂

MsHybridFanGirl · 27/12/2023 22:39

Can i join please, at least 2 stone to lose but ideally 3. Will be lowish carb and intermittent fasting, no alcohol. Has worked well in the past. Life issues over last couple of years have left me fat, bloated and feeling like shit. Can't go on any more like this (and scared of it getting even worse if I don't deal with it).

MuthaHubbard · 27/12/2023 23:02

Me please! Lost a lot a few years ago, put a bit back on. Would like to shift 14 to 20lbs. I do have an op on the 4th so if all goes well will be on it from then onwards - combo of cal counting and IF. FC brought me a walking pad so will hopefully be able to put to good use alongside gym for some weights (when allowed)

Newname2308 · 27/12/2023 23:56

Love these threads, glad to join another one 🤩 I’m currently recovering from overdoing it over Xmas, so won’t worry too much about whatever I’ve gained.
Started at 70kg last September, delighted that I lost 6kg by my final WoW of 2023! Combination of intermittent fasting and logging calories, which quickly led to cutting out alcohol Sun-Thurs. I’ll carry on with all that, plus I want to get back to some strength training at the gym.
My target weight was an arbitrary 60kg, but I’m going to revise it to 56kg having looked properly at what’s advised for my height.

Penguin2024 · 28/12/2023 00:32

Hello there
Am with you all in spirit. I don't have a proper plan as I seem to fail at all diets! But will cut out sugar and go for very low fat, only eat when hungry, try to measure portions, and get out and move more. My main problem is comfort eating when feeling tired, exhausted, overwhelmed or low, and usually late night eating. So I will need to find ways to tackle this. Good luck everyone.

ChickenChipsandBeans · 28/12/2023 07:32

Hello. I'd like to join. I need to lose 2 and a half stones more. I've managed to lose 18lbs since the last week of September. I try to eat healthy, whole foods, low carb but not super restricted as I don't like having to say to the kids at the dinner table that I'm not eating rice etc. I walk 5km every weekday morning but also want to incorporate weight training in the new year. I feel so much better for losing what I have, but I'm ready to get back on track after Christmas and the lead up to it.

TheRealHousewife · 28/12/2023 08:29

Good Morning!

Welcome to the thread everyone!

@WhatNow20 You’ve done it before, so you know what works for you. Good luck!

@ChickenChipsandBeans You’ve made an impressive start! Weight training is very beneficial, good choice 👍

@DaisySnowdrop Birthday and a wedding to look forward too; Those are great motivators! Steps wise whilst working from home … are you able to get up at regular intervals and do a few laps of the house and few up and down stairs? It’ll soon add up 👍

@DomesticElf Welcome back! ❤️

@Ivy09 Welcome! Brave the scales and that way you can see how much progress you make. Be your own motivation 👌

@MsHybridFanGirl Getting healthy & happy is the bestest gift you can give yourself! You know what works you just need to get in the right headspace.

@MuthaHubbard Hope all goes well with your op!

@Newname2308 I’ve knowingly overdone it this Christmas too! 😬 Enjoyed every mouthful! No regrets!

@Penguin2024 Believe it or not I never diet either. I’m a massive advocate for eating real nutritious food where nothing is banned. Portion control, good fats, quality protein & fibre are the way to go 👍

@RainDropsStorm The thread can start now if people find it useful. Our Christmas thread will end on the 31st anyway.

@TheABC Inches are good 👍 Keeping blood sugars balanced is a great way to keep the munchies at bay too!

@Undisclosedlocation I’m the same in regards breakfast. I’m just not hungry in the AM. I agree re: menopause! That’s why I have HRT but I realise it isn’t for everyone.

@rainbow616 Congratulations on your new baby x

Welcome back @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo 👍

I'm in!

At least 2 stone to lose. Am completely unmotivated at the moment. Will weigh in on Wednesday 3rd and go from there.

Low/no alcohol
Intermittent fasting
1300 cals
C25K
Some Pilates/yoga from you tube

It's now or never. Thanks for the inspiration. See you on 3rd 😊

RealFoodLife · 28/12/2023 08:36

I'm in!

Eating real food within an 8 hour eating window. No added sugar or alcohol.

Daily walk and some yoga.

I have a lot to lose. BMI currently in high 30s. Initially want to get BMI below 30 and reduce waist/clothes size.

Tremblingmadness · 28/12/2023 09:07

I’m in too

2 stone to lose and I need to get my 10,000 steps a day habit back. I have no idea why I let that go in the Summer of 23.

I will be doing the Zoe 30 with 8:16

WonderingWanda · 28/12/2023 09:14

Can I join you please? I am not very good at sticking with anything but low carb and no sugar seems to be the way yo go for me. I am 12st and don't have weight goal but I want to reduce my waist measurement and all the wobbly bits. Will dig out a tape measure and do some measurements I think.

TheRealHousewife · 28/12/2023 09:20

Hi @mellongoose Good plan! See you in a couple of days 👍

Welcome to the thread@RealFoodLife Love your username👌Baby steps, consistent baby steps will get you where you want to be 😊. Imagine how you’d like to look and feel this time next week/month/year. Hold that thought whilst following your plan.

HI @Tremblingmadness We've all taken our eye of the ball at times. I know for me personally it used to be easier to eat my feelings rather than work through them. You’ll look absolutely fabulous come Summer 2024 ☀️

The Benefits of Protein & Exercise

Protein and exercise

Your body needs protein to repair and grow muscle that is broken down during exercise. Regular exercise will mean you need a little bit more protein than usual.

Yes please, I'd love to join. I'm planning to do Fast800 Keto and officially start on the 3rd Jan. I had a tricky pregnancy and gained 4 stone but DS is 9 months now so it really is time to knock that on the head. I'd love to lose the first couple of stone by his birthday in mid March.

Lola50 · 28/12/2023 09:46

Hi everyone. I’d like to join you all.
I need to lose about 15kg and really need the motivation of a group like this.
I’m doing Fast 800 Keto and intermittent fasting, which has worked well for me in the past, but I tend to get sidetracked then give up.
Just turned 50 and I want to stop hating the way I look and feel about myself - I’ve been “dieting” for as long as I can remember.
Feeling positive to be here for the new year!

TheRealHousewife · 28/12/2023 09:52

Welcome to the thread@tweetypi @Lola50 . Fast800 Keto will certainly work if you stick with it. Some of the recipes are surprisingly tasty 😋
