January 2024! Fresh start & develop new habits. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Hello eager to join and not so eager to weigh on Wednesday after holding back only a little over Christmas.
Weight BC (before Christmas) 12.0
CW 12.5
Aiming to reach 11stones then hopefully continue from there if I do.
i started cutting back yesterday because my blood pressure review reminder appeared and suddenly panicked. Aiming for April or at least by July. Doctor will probably say need to aim for earlier date!

Welcome! @Mummyofthewildones What’s your Masters in? Sounds tough!

So sorry to read about your miscarriage @NphysT 💔 Hope you’re getting all the support you need/want. Be gentle on yourself, you’re going through a very tough time.

Reducing waist size is very beneficial for our health markers as well as our silhouette @2024fit Congrats on already reducing yours by nearly 6 whole inches 👏👏👏. That’s an excellent plan you’ve outlined and clearly it’s working for you 👍

@ThisYearIsMyNewStart When I lost the bulk of my weight all my health markers improved such as blood pressure, cholesterol and liver readings (forgot the proper name). When people are not carrying extra weight it really does have far reaching benefits for our health beyond how we look.

Hello can I join too please
I need to lose about a stone but mostly need to get fit and tone up. I'm menopausal and tried HRT a few times, just doesn't work for me.
I need to be accountable otherwise I go mad on snacks in the afternoon.

Mummyofthewildones · 31/12/2023 08:12

@TheRealHousewife its to become a prescriber, so very full on and a big responsibility! DC are 2 and 4 and DP works lots of extra hours on call etc, rarely home on time so it's all on me. DD4 is at school and DS2 is at pre school and starting an extra day from next week to give me 6 hours of breathing space!! Hopefully that will allow me to meal prep a bit as well as getting the coursework done. Good luck to everyone, strength in numbers!!

NothingTraLaLa · 31/12/2023 09:17

Morning all. I’ve moved over from the Christmas thread for my final stats for 2023.

Having weighed myself again this morning, I’m down over a pound since yesterday, so some of my Christmas gain was indeed water. I’m still feeling a bit bloated so I expect a bit more will drop off over the next few days.

I first posted on these threads back in May, so my starting weight dates back to then.

SW 128 lbs
CW 118.6 lbs

which means I hit my target of 119 lbs by the end of the year. New stretch target of 114 lbs for the full stone loss.

PatienceOfEngels · 31/12/2023 09:41

@Mummyofthewildones I did a 2 year online MA which finished over a year ago and honestly it almost finished me off! My emotional eating got out of control. i was prioritising study above everything else so all exercise fell by the wayside. I just kept telling myself, when I've finished, then I'll sort my diet out. I made myself so ill (especially the last few months with my final research project) that I gave myself some stress induced physical issues that too a year to sort out.

With that on top of the pandemic, I feel lie I'm only just coming out the other side and able to take care of myself again. Good that you're able to take the steps to look after yourself now. This is a very supportive thread!

Welcome to everyone else who's hopped on!

ItsTapasTime · 31/12/2023 09:51

Hi, I’d like to join you.

Currently 74kg (size 14/16 and overweight bmi)

1st goal 66kg (size 12/14 and slightly overweight bmi)

I would ideally like to get closer to 61kg but I’m not sure that’s realistic. My main goal is to get down to a small size 12, so I can wear some of the lovely summer clothes that have been stuck in the attic for the last 5 years.

Also doing dry January and no spend January. I’m an all or nothing type of person 😀

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 31/12/2023 09:53

Hello I'm new to this.

usual story of weight creeping on after children.

I'm currently 12st 4lb which gives me a BMI of 29.9

my first goal is to get a weight that starts with 11 rather than 12b- so 5lb to start of with which seems very achievable.

my diet is pretty good, and I'm already at the gym several times a week, it's my alcohol consumption that is the problem - several bottles of wine a week so I'm going to do 100 days alcohol free as a kickstarter and hopefully it will become my new normal.

🍋🚰🚰 HELP YOUR WEIGHT LOSS BY STAYING WELL HYDRATED 🚰🚰🍋

Start your day with 1 pint of water with half of a lemon squeezed in to it first thing on an empty stomach. It’s an incredibly simple step that will literally make you feel amazing.

Look up lemon water benefits for a full list but it helps with hydration, better digestion, healthy looking skin, controls blood sugar, good dose of vitamin C and lots more.

ThisIsntThe80sPat · 31/12/2023 13:23

I'd like to join please. I'm 11 months pp with my second and I'm not far off the biggest I've ever been. Legs getting achy every day is a sign I'm far too overweight, and the stark realisation that I'm actually now a size 20 because the size 18 joggers that I got for Christmas are too tight has me feeling determined this year to make a change.

Calorie counting and slow and steady to make it sustainable long term. Half a pound per week of 2024. So hoping for a 26lb loss in 2024.

Have made some realistic goals to start with to become more active and aid the weight loss. Obe Saturday morning a month I'll do a 2-3 hour walk. And once a week, I want to do something active like swimming or ice skating or rollerblading but I need to think properly about what's going to be realistic, what's going to work and what im going to stick to. DH and I have no family around so I need to coordinate a set time with dh on a day he's not going into the office so we have more time.

FootballFanGirl · 31/12/2023 14:26

Following! I've got 50lb to lose!

I started this recently. Also add in a teaspoon full of pink Himalayan salt. It's great for replacing minerals.

RunningKatie · 31/12/2023 17:22

Can I join too please? At a conservative guess I need to lose 4 stone. I started weight training in Oct with a PT but need to start building in cardio sessions. I used to be a runner but am now too broken to run, and banned now by the physio and hospital.
I'm hoping to start swimming again, our local pool is closed currently but should reopen soon.
I need to overhaul my food intake, I've listened to podcasts by Corinne Crabtree and think her suggestion of planning a days food and then only eating what you've planned might be my starting point.

abbs1 · 31/12/2023 19:37

Following as well. 2 young children and need to lose weight and be healthier for me and to be a better mum to them. Ideally need to lose around 10kg but going to start with a massive overhaul of my diet and get exercising more.

Keeponkeepingonplease · 31/12/2023 19:37

Please may I join? I'm thinking I'd like to lose 4 or 5 stone. Current plan is primarily OMAD but having MCT oil powder in coffee and bone broth through the day if needed. I travel a lot for work which makes OMAD difficult so will stick to low carb where possible.
Turmeric for inflammation, L Theanine to help combat stress. Reduce caffeine, get outside every day in bare feet, increase my steps until I feel a bit more able to exercise, increase my sleep. Stop being so hard on myself.
Good luck everyone and happy new year.

Rockfordpeach · 31/12/2023 20:03

I'd like to join in please. I lost 5st years ago on Slimming World and have gained it all back plus 3 so really need to lose 8st at least. It's a daunting target so I'm just going to take it stone by stone. Will be calorie counting starting Tuesday

maybein2022 · 31/12/2023 21:06

I’d like to join please. I am weighing in and restarting tomorrow (01.01.2024). I have so much weight to lose- I did actually manage to lose just over 3 stone this year but I’ve been ‘off track’ since about 16th December so need to make 2024 the year I crack this for good.

My plan:

WW online (has worked for me this year and previously)
Photograph and track everything I eat
Cut out diet coke and other drinks like this
Move more
Swim x 3 a week for half an hour

LemonDrizzle23 · 31/12/2023 21:16

Hello! Moving over from the Christmas thread. Looking to make 2024 the year of some real change in my health.

I hope everybody is having / has a fab New Year's Eve and is ready to start tomorrow 🥳

FiveShelties · 31/12/2023 21:30

I would love to join too please. Have just weighed in at 10st 12.8 and would like to be 10 stone or slightly less. So that gives me a stone to lose. Aims are:
Huge reduction in wine
Lots of water
No stupid snacking at 10pm
At least 10,000 steps per day

Good luck everyone and Happy New Year 😊

WeirdPookah · 31/12/2023 21:37

Well, most of the christmas foods are gone, tree down, living room clear, and ready to start fresh tomorrow.

I am a bit worried at seeing the damage to my losses tomorrow.

Ginnyinapinny · 31/12/2023 23:21

Hi all, I'd like to join too, please.

CW 13st
TW 10st

Plan: run 4 times per week (from no running at all over the last few years since DC3), healthier snacking, and overall healthier eating.

I must not sit at my desk eating crap all day!

Flowerchild547 · 31/12/2023 23:34

Hi! I would like to join as well!
I am the biggest I’ve ever been and I am ready to make a change. I’m unhappy and uncomfortable in myself.
To get to a healthy bmi I need to lose 7 stone but my goal for this year is 3 stone.
I’ve signed up to ww and I’m hoping this will be the first step to the new me!!

TheRealHousewife · 01/01/2024 08:23

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2024 🥳

The start of a brand new year always brings renewed hope of better things to come. A lot of stuff is out of our control but like the serenity prayer states control what you can and let go of what you can’t. In regards to our weight, health, happiness and wellbeing; these aspects are directly influenced by the choices we make during each and everyday (in the main). Stay mindful of what your goals are, have a plan of action and reaffirm your intentions each night. By being diligent and consistent you’ll see your transformation into a brand new version of yourself. Healthier, more confident and happier❤️
