January 2024! Fresh start & develop new habits. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Jan NSV's:

First of all sorry for those who are grieving this week - sending ease.

@LegoTherapy hope you're feeling a bit more up beat today.

Way to GO! To the lovers! I'll definitely be creeping around your menus this week!

@PatienceOfEngels please share which yoga you choose. Perhaps I will join too. Will it be YT thing?

About me - end of Dec I started eating well, and strength training which was so positive on a few levels. Last week I tried keto fast 800. Which I was utterly miserable on, impacted negatively quite a bit. I have noticed since I gave that up Tuesday, my mind is more peaceful again. For this reason I do think I need to cut weighing in, give myself 6 weeks to gauge results. Food, I am going back to being sensible again, tracking calories, which I alternate between CW X 10 and TW X 10. Salads, olive oil, fish etc.

My weightlifting days are M, W AND Fs - look forward to them so much.

Lunch Ceasar salad

Dinner egyptian ensemble - kofta kebabs, chicken swarma, breads and salads I'll post pic later.

😊😊😊😊

PatienceOfEngels · 31/01/2024 11:34

@AnnieCambs I use Yoga with Adriene on YouTube.

https://www.youtube.com/@yogawithadriene

Every January she does a 30 days yoga series released day by day. You can find all her perviously 30 days as playlists on her YT page. She also releases a calendar each month with random practices (if I do this I just pick what takes my fancy). I really like this years 30 days playlist as most are no more than 20 minutes.

Before you continue to YouTube

Morning everyone. Well done on some amazing losses and also to those who stayed the same / didn’t lose as much as hoped, in the face of a difficult January. Both are successes to be celebrated.

I ended the month down 4.6lb. Not as much as I had hoped for, but I’m still really glad to have lost it, and will keep on keeping on for February.

I have controlled my inputs since I started on 7 Jan (i.e. tracking and weighing everything, keeping within my calories each day, focusing on moving more - flu bugs aside), and I know I can’t control the outputs (i.e. what the scales do). I just have to keep making sure I stick to the plan, and the scales will eventually do the right thing!

I feel so much better ending the month than I did when it started, so that is something to remember too. I must remember it’s not all about the scales.

I completed Dry Jan (from the 7th when I started) and will now keep alcohol to weekends only, and stay fairly sensible with the amounts when I do drink.

This thread is brilliant, thank you to @TheRealHousewife for it, and to all of you for the contributions in commenting. I feel positive about starting February and seeing what I can do!

AnnieCambs · 31/01/2024 11:40

@PatienceOfEngels thank you so much x. Never done it but wanting to for ages

ChickenChipsandBeans · 31/01/2024 12:00

Well, after not liking the numbers on the scale last week, the ups and downs have finally stopped going up over the last 4 days and I've finished January with a 3.6kg loss which I am very happy about. I'm not tracking calories anymore, but trying to be mindful of food choices so it is just a way of eating rather than a 'diet. As such, I know progress will be slower, but also surprisingly I'm ok with that. I think mainly because I have already lost a good amount, I feel good and I can wear nice clothes again, so the hardest part is over. I had set myself a goal this month to try to get down to the 2 stone loss mark for my birthday which is in 2 days, but I haven't quite managed. 1kg more and it will be a total of 2 stones gone. Maybe next week. Well done everyone and I also thank @TheRealHousewife for her time and effort on this thread.

SW (last week of Sep'23) 82.2
2nd Jan 74.4
CW 70.8
TW 60kg

Allthegoodnamestakken · 31/01/2024 12:45

@ImALittlePea I don't even like pomegranate seeds but that looks good!

I forgot today was Wednesday so didn't weigh but it's ok because I did weigh yesterday so going to log that as my weekly weight.
Ate far too much cheese last night but didn't drink so reduced calories that way, lunch today was a slice of cake.
Dinner I haven't decided on yet, something batch cooked from the freezer so chilli, bolognaise etc. with veggies for me and rice/mash for everyone else

TheRealHousewife · 31/01/2024 14:07

Good Morning

I love it that we officially end January with the last WOW of the month 👌

WOW:-
31/01/24 - 9st 0.1lb
01/01/24 - 9st 6lbs
Total lost 6lbs 😮 I’ve checked and checked. According to MFP (that’s what I was using then) on 2nd of January and I was 9st 6lb which I’d never even registered tbh. I was 8st 12lb 20th December 🤷‍♀️. I do remember having had pain meds around that time that affect my weight negatively. I’m now transferred over to NutraCheck and I’m a total convert.

I don’t know if it’s Mumsnet or my connection but I have had another failed posting this morning, hence I haven’t replied to anyone personally ❤️. It’s very frustrating.

People are posting some fabulous results and I’d like to congratulate each and everyone one of you no matter what your outcome has been. 👏👏👏

If you’ve stayed the same - Carry on! If you’ve gained - Carry on! If you’re feeling despondent - Carry on! Consistency is key! Keep doing what you know works for you and you will see results!

Menu
Meal 1 - Homemade 100% Beefburger on GF Low carb bun. Lettuce and sauce.
Meal 2 - King Prawn Rolls and Red Pepper, bean sprout, carrot, baby sweet corn, mange tout and spring onion stir fry. Dipping sauce.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Thank you to all of you for your contributions to these threads. It’s each of you that makes these threads work. You are a great bunch of supportive and inspiring people! Respect ✊.

Final weight in of January

SW (June 2023) - 93kg
First Goal - 72kg (achieved Christmas 2023)
CW - 69kg
GW - 55kg

That's a very slow 3kg loss this month. Not sure what I can do to move things a bit faster. I'm very short so my calorie allowance is only 1200 a day. I can't do much exercise although I do try and go for a walk most days. On the other hand, if I continue at 3kg a month I'll reach my goal in another 4-5 months. That would mean a loss of 38kg in a year, not too shabby.

Well done to everyone else. It's hard in January, a very long month. See you on the February thread.

maybein2022 · 31/01/2024 14:30

Finally the end of January! Hope everyone is doing ok and sending much love and strength to anyone who has had bad news, health issues, or a tough time for whatever reason.

Well done to everyone who has lost weight this month, even if it’s a small amount, you still weigh less than when the year started and that’s brilliant!

I didn’t weigh myself today as my weigh in day is Monday, but as of Monday I’d lost a total of exactly 14lb/1 stone in January.

Also, something I NEVER thought was possible- I’ve done a whole month with absolutely no Diet Coke or similar! Never going back to it now.

TheRealHousewife · 31/01/2024 16:33

@talkingdeadscot Congratulations on your loss! I think you are making fantastic solid progress! 👏👍

@maybein2022 Im aghast at how well you’ve done! A loss of a full stone in January alone is phenomenal progress. Congratulations 👏👍

Please bare with me while catch up and learn more about all of you and your journeys, determination, highs and lows.

Please do let me know if I transgress any of the rules or guidelines.

A word of warning to others - Struggling so much with appetite after one week on fast 800 keto. I can't eat anything, a few bites and I'm full - not in a good way. Lots of hairloss too. Lunch below had few bites of salad and the chicken would just temp me at all. Today's egyptian dinner came out nice. Though again I had to force myself.

Such a shame as I spent a month on a freestyle diet that made supercharged and feeling full and fantastic.

WOW
SW 81.5kg
CW 77.1
Change from last week - 1.1kg
GW 69kg

Feeling happy with this, down 4.4kg this month. The biggest change I’ve made is reducing alcohol and it’s definitely showing. Next step is to introduce more exercise!

PatienceOfEngels · 31/01/2024 20:08

@talkingdeadscot everyone is different but for me 3kg is not a slow loss. I started really addressing my weight in October and averaged 2kg/4 weeks until Christmas and then one kg this month. 3kg is amazing!

Well done @Gemstonebeach 👏

@AnnieCambs that doesn't sound good. Is this a sudden change? I think I would be maybe heading to my GP if I suddenly felt full/unexplained hair loss.

@maybein2022 breaking an addiction is the hardest thing to do so well done for no diet coke. 👏Keep going. Now you've been away from it for so long it should be easier. Amazing loss this month.

LegoTherapy · 31/01/2024 20:11

The GP surgery wanted my weight this morning. I used to refuse as I was pushing it at BMI of 26 and felt embarrassed but I was happy to give my weight today and get a BMI of 21.68 😃 According to my records I was 62kg (clothed) in 2014 when I first saw the midwife at 5 weeks pregnant and am now 9% less. I'll take that. My face and neckline are not holding up quite so well but my boobs remain pert. Thank god for small mercies. I can't hoik up my fave and jawline though so maybe it would be best to be the other way round 🤔 I'm 47. I've been under immense stress for 12 years and I'm alive and pretty healthy so I'm grateful for that. And soft lighting 😁

Let's rock February! I'm on holiday next week and will not be restricting anything but will start properly on the 10th.

afaloren · 31/01/2024 20:41

Wow well done @LegoTherapy that’s brilliant.

Last post on this thread!

B - Protein yoghurt, banana
L - Lentil and bacon soup, clementines
D - Haddock fish cakes with sugar snap peas, protein yoghurt
S - Protein shake
E - 2 x dog walks, yoga, cardio session at the gym

I’ve found this thread so helpful and I’m sure the February one will be the same! Thanks @TheRealHousewife and everyone else.

Try 5:2, the full on Fast 800 might be too severe for you.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 31/01/2024 21:29

Gah, had my final January birthday lunch today. Opted for haddock & salmon fish cakes, rather than a shepherd's pie with a cheese mash and red wine sauce (which is what I really wanted to have) as I thought that would be a bit healthier and maybe lower in calories. Just looked up the menu online to check calories to add to my app, and what I thought was the healthier choice had almost double the calories 🙄 Note to self: check calories online BEFORE going out. My dessert was a modest 170 calories, so that's something. And I resisted the temptation to get a side of fries.

ThriceInALifetime · 31/01/2024 22:40

SW- 11st 6Ib
CW- 11st 3Ib

Have put on weight again but determined not to go back to 11st 6Ib. Sometimes feel like my stomach is bottomless but have no willpower!
Went for a long run/ walk tonight over an hour.

Well done on everyone who's kept going! It's so hard to get in the mindset.

Stripyunicorn · 01/02/2024 07:01

Everyone has done so well in January, congratulations.

I skipped WOW yesterday, I've had a bad few days food wise. Poorly child over the weekend meant lots of grab and go kind of food, and a couple of takeaways as no way could I cook.
Then as baby got better, I now feel rough. So I've weighed today as an end of Jan / start of Feb instead. I've gained 3lb this week apparently, but I'm due on my period and I'm constipated so not sure how much impact that has.

SW 13 stone 2
CW 12 stone 8
GW 10 stone 7

So total January loss 8lb which I'm happy with even though it could've / should've been better.

Will join the Feb thread now!

WeirdPookah · 01/02/2024 10:10

@LegoTherapy that's great!! If you use Instagram, try looking up anastasiabeautyfascia and the pinned 10 minute massage. I've been doing some of it, combined with stone roller with light almond oil on my face and neck. I've already noticed a difference in my face.

MrsPepperpotty · 02/02/2024 08:19

Late WOW for me:

SW 15st 4
CW 14st 9
GW 11st 11

Only a tiny loss for my this week, but proud of myself because I had a bad weekend / start of week and I managed to bring it under control in the last few days rather than falling off the wagon. This weekend will be better!
