A fresh new month; perfect time to re-set the mind, outline goals and affirm intentions. A fresh start to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to stay healthy, lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and to exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 1lb. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - Positive thought:- If you were to lose on average of a 1lb per you could be a stone lighter by Christmas 🎄

@WeirdPookah they're so cool! We did them a few years ago and the kids were really excited and helped make them, but weren't so enthusiastic about eating the cooked pepper itself (which is ridiculous because we cook with it a lot!).

Their preferred option was mummy hot dogs (hot dogs wrapped in puff pastry with added eyes) but for me it's just too much faff! I'll make them a little menu card and decorate the kitchen with cobwebs/pumpkin lanterns - pretty sure it'll keep them happy!

Morning all. I've completely given up it seems. I just can't be bothered due to too much going on and feeling quite depressed due to issues with my dc and exH being a complete twat.
I'll be making soup and fruit compote today and tomorrow is a new week with a new month starting on Wednesday. Today will be soup for dinner and a balanced day.
I feel my thoughts are bloated but that's normal for menstrual cycle things. It's all over the place thanks to peri.
Is there s November thread yet?

That's a shame, if it's any consolidation I've been eating rubbish since Friday! Can't seem to stop stuffing my face.
Had my period this week although not a great excuse!.
Tomorrow's is the start of a new week. I've done a bit of exercise today which is something.

DownUdderer · 30/10/2023 04:37

I'm checking in. I've read everyone's updates. It's nice to see some losses. Well done everyone.

I'm self sabotaging at the moment and it's just stress. I'm trying to be gentle with myself. Every day is a new day. And some days are better than others. I think I've put on 4lb. Normally I'd put my head in the sand and stop weighing myself. I will try to make better choices.

LemonDrizzle23 · 30/10/2023 07:40

Sorry to hear you're all having a bit of a rough time @JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots @ThriceInALifetime and @DownUdderer

Haven't been doing too week diet-wise here either. My morning started off with my Apple Watch informing me I didn't meet my calorie burn goal on any of the days this last week. And the scales are slightly up. I think that's an accurate reflection of the last seven days....

Slightly period-y seem to equal major snacking. Friends over for the last two weekends, so lots of "nice" food. Lots of half term fun, but no gym visits and apparently not very much walking.

So! Last day of half term today. Tomorrow I hit the gym. Food will be sorted from today. And I look forward to the november thread.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 30/10/2023 09:57

Back on it today. Porridge for breakfast, have got yogurt and compote for lunch and will make veg soup later for dinner. Have put it all into mfp.
I averaged 5.5 miles a day last week which isn't too bad for the holidays. It will likely be 8 miles a day this week. I need to get bouncing on my hall again and need a good boxset to watch while I do it-any recommendations? Comedy or crime preferably.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 30/10/2023 10:13

If it’s ok can I rejoin?!

I’m currently on WeightWatchers and go to the weekly meetings but find tracking can be time consuming.

I do know the past few days I’ve had Twixes and Lindt bars and less walking than I should do plus more carbs.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 30/10/2023 10:13

This morning though, porridge 15g with water and 80g blueberries.

Rich tea light biscuit

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 30/10/2023 10:34

Goodness @GonnaGetGoingReturns that's a baby portion and not going to keep you full. I have a half cup of oats with a cup of semi skimmed milk and a teaspoon of chia seeds with an indecent amount of golden syrup. I lost over 2 stone with that breakfast as part of my diet. Maybe you've missed a zero off or aren't bothered about breakfast though. Welcome back though and I hope tou find it supportive. I've not been very present for the past couple of months but need to get back to better habits.

@JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots maybe I should have more and add milk. In the summer I ate Rude Health Puffed Oats with slimmed milk though.

WeirdPookah · 30/10/2023 11:13

40g of oats is 150-odd calories @GonnaGetGoingReturns you are setting yourself up to fail by having such a tiny amount of food.
I had 40g oats, grated small apple, cinnamon, 20g almond butter and heaped teaspoon maple sugar and it came to 340 calories. Plus a milky coffee bringing my breakfast in at about 400 calories.

We went out for fish and chips last night with inlaws, was absolutely delicious!

But need to get back on track, but this week is a weird one, children go back to school tomorrow, but my husband is going away for work which he doesn't normally do, and the weekend away as well. So on my own with the children a lot.

Hi Everyone

Apologies for not being around. I’ve been quite ill and hopefully through the worst. Virus ended up on chest and I’ve felt totally wiped out. I even had a couple of days in bed as was feverish and had headaches from hell.

Sending positive vibes to all you fabulous ladies ❤️

@TheRealHousewife I am sorry to hear you were unwell. Very pleased things are getting better!

Last week was my toddler's birthday, so naturally I ended up throwing all dieting to the wind and properly indulging in pizzas and cake. I don't want to do a weigh in tomorrow 😩 (I do them on Tuesdays rather than wednesdays).

With that said, I am meal planning to get back on track.

LemonDrizzle23 · 30/10/2023 21:02

Sorry you've been so under the weather @TheRealHousewife . I appreciate the festive tone of the next thread!

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 30/10/2023 21:34

Glad you are on the mend @TheRealHousewife and thanks for the new thread for the Christmas countdown which has scared me nicely. Tomorrow is Halloween party food so I'm hoping my virtuous day today will even it all out and then Wednesday here we come!

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 30/10/2023 21:43

The good habits have kicked back in and my morning porridge is in the fridge (it cooks faster if I put the oats and chia in the milk overnight and saves time measuring in the morning when I'm half asleep). My face is cleansed and moisturised thoroughly, I have a hot water bottle against my painful back and one on my cold feet and am tucked up in bed for an early night about to read Robert Galbraith's latest. The pumpkins are carved ready for tomorrow and the decorations are mostly up. Is anyone doing anything for Halloween tomorrow?

Weatherwax13 · 30/10/2023 23:07

Sorry you've been so poorly @TheRealHousewife sounds like you've had a really bad lurgy!

SaltySeaCat · 31/10/2023 07:41

Hello all and glad you are feeling better @TheRealHousewife - thanks also for the new thread 🎄!
Just weighed in for the last day of October and I’ve lost a pound this week, making 5 in total for this month (September was -7). The weight loss has definitely slowed down, but I only want to lose another 6 pounds - hopefully I’ll get there in the next thread 🤞

SW 12 stone 7 (15/05/23)
CW 9 stone 12
TW 9 stone 6 (I think)

I bought 3 new jumpers yesterday and they were a mix of size 12 and 10! I was a size 18 back in May - still can’t quite believe I’ve lost 37 pounds 😁. Some of my clothes that fit are still a size 14 though.

TheRealHousewife · 31/10/2023 08:00

🎃Happy Halloween🎃

This month has flown by!

Thank you for the good wishes @SaltySeaCat @Weatherwax13 @JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots @LemonDrizzle23 @DomesticElf and anyone I’ve missed ❤️ I sound like Bonnie Tyler 😬 I’m still coughing like mad and my ribs are really painful. But better than I was.

Welcome back @GonnaGetGoingReturns , lovely to have you back with you us 👍

End of Month weigh-in = 8st 12lbs.

Sorry to hear you've been so ill @TheRealHousewife Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Happy Halloween!

End of month weigh-in: 74.4kg (11st10)
Start of month was 77kg (12st1) so 2.6kg (5lb) loss! I know the next month will be harder but determined to chip away and get to my first goal of 68kg/BMI under 25 (realistically I hope I can do this over a six month period...we'll see).

Last week has been harder food wise. Haven't been logging, sneaking in a few extra snacks, not weighing everything, some evening eating/stretched my eating window.

Put on a pair of velvet trousers that I bought in the sale last spring and were uncomfortable round the wait then, fit perfectly now!

Currently pre-menstrual which makes me tired and prone to stress. Day off today so trying to take some time to relax, bake/cook and decorate kitchen for Halloween dinner, as well as a quick tidy up and get some tasks done that have been playing on my mind.

On the menu today:
-boiled egg and rye toast
-soup out freezer (spicy pumpkin or ham and vegetable)
-ghoul-ash followed by pumpkin pie
-snacks - mango and blueberry smoothie

TheRealHousewife · 31/10/2023 08:54

@PatienceOfEngels That’s an awesome monthly amount! Well done! 🥳👏 … and thank you. Enjoy your Halloween Celebrations 🎃🎃🎃

Happy 🎃 Halloween! My Fitbit hadn't updated yesterday and I actually walked 11.59 miles so I'm happy with that.
Congratulations on the losses for the month! I'll be joining you with those at the end of November if I stick to things.

So I’ve had 30g of porridge oats with water (forgot to add milk, habit!) plus tiny bit of honey. It’s natural to me now to have less but will try to up it.

Yesterday had:-

1 slice chocolate and banana home made loaf cake
small bit cheese and 2 salt and pepper crackers
1 crunchie
small bowl Florida spring vegetable soup with leek and potato plus Tesco finest olive bread with olive oil spread approx 3 slices
2 x tangerines
1 x 80g serving pineapple chunks
vegetable bean stew with small jacket potato and grated cheese
