A fresh new month; perfect time to re-set the mind, outline goals and affirm intentions. A fresh start to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to stay healthy, lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and to exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 1lb. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - Positive thought:- If you were to lose on average of a 1lb per you could be a stone lighter by Christmas 🎄

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife

September saw me losing at a faster rate than any other month, as I dropped 2.5 lbs. I was averaging about 1 lb per month before that. Only 2lbs away from my target weight!

DomesticElf · 01/10/2023 14:54

Thank you for the new thread.
We went to get photos taken today, and I was determined to wear my new jeans. Mainly because I don't really have any other presentable pants I can vaguely fit into. Had to use some industrial scaffolding in the form of structured belly band, and I managed to close them. Sitting down was a problem, but otherwise it looked ok with a loose shirt over them to hide the muffin top of a year 🤣

Onwards and upwards.

DomesticElf · 01/10/2023 14:54

Of the year..

Midnightstar76 · 01/10/2023 15:14

@TheRealHousewife I am in to try again but re-set tomorrow as would work for me being a Monday. Also thanks for sharing the October positive calendar actually going to do this each day. Dare not get on the scales but I will tomorrow morning.

119orbust · 01/10/2023 17:07

Hello all - name change here and warning of a long post but just in case it helps anyone.
I was @139orbust, @136orbust, @131orbust, @129orbust, @126orbust and @was126orbustandprobablybust.
Before I left the thread in July I spent about 2 months yo-yoing from 130lbs-127lbs and with my DD’s coming back from uni and holidays and meals out to welcome and wave off I could only see my weight going in one direction and come October I would be 137lbs again and having to start again so I took a hard look at what I was doing and decided to come up with one rule for the summer.
I could see my error was I would have a calorific meal and think I would eat lighter and go for a walk/cycle/play tennis later to balance things out - and then not do it so I decided that I would not eat any more calories that I had burned by the time of the meal.
This was easy enough as I rarely bother with breakfast anyway so even if I hadn’t really moved I would have 600kcals by lunch and 900Kcals showing on my Fitbit by dinner ( I know Fitbit isn’t perfect but I wanted to have something in black and white that I couldn’t argue with). If I wanted to go eat more later then I had to make sure I burned more - if it was a restaurant meal I checked out the menu the day before and picked two possible things and planned for it.
I walked a lot and to be fair to DH and the DDs, when around, they walked to lots of restaurants too and sometimes the walk there was so pleasant we walked home too ( and sometimes we didn’t but because I was only eating what I had already burned that was fine)
The idea was to keep my weight stable and under 130lbs.
So here we are - both DDs back at Uni and today I weigh 122lbs which is about 8lbs less than I had hoped and 4.5lbs less that when I started my maintenance so I’m going to stick with it and go for my new name/target.
This thread is great and so as I always say - onwards and inwards!

TheRealHousewife · 01/10/2023 19:18

@AllProperTeaIsTheft I can’t do much exercise due to disability so do small bursts of either yoga, hand weights or floor exercises. My exercise has dropped off in recent months due to an increase in pain. Nonetheless I’m planning on reintroducing small amounts again. Anything is better than nothing 👍

Welcome to the thread @Newname2308 @PlusOneTwoThree 👍 I've not come across the Better Me app. Is it a free one or paid? I love apps 😬

@BucksOxonMum You're welcome! You’re achievement is very inspiring!

@WeirdPookah Weve all had weekends like that. You must have counteracted some of it with that long walk! Well done on getting in some exercise! I’ve heard that Birthday Cake does not have any calories 😬

Welcome again @DomesticElf @LemonDrizzle23 @NothingTraLaLa @119orbust @Midnightstar76 👍Great to have our regulars on board again! ❤️

@119orbust Great inspo you shared, thank you! Like I’ve always said; everyone knows what works for them and rarely are 2 of us the same.

@DomesticElf well done on getting in your jeans👍

Thank you for the new thread @TheRealHousewife ! 🙂

I'm back for another month of living a healthier lifestyle and losing some weight. I started the end of July on 62kg and finished August around 58kg I think. I am currently hovering around 57 or 56.5kg. I'm looking to get leaner and get more muscle and just be healthier overall.

Being quite short, having extra weight around my tummy restricted how much I could move. I can feel the difference in my knees, it's so much easier to do things and I feel more flexible because I am trying to move more, stretch more often.

I really liked reading everyone's posts last month and it kept me encouraged to keep on at it with being healthy. Last month I was trying to eat and drink more healthily and I want to maintain this plus incorporate more exercise in. I had a good week and a bit of light exercise, then work got busier, then towards the end of the month I picked up some exercise again.

I've signed up to Les Mills on demand today and am trialling it for the month. I used to do Body pump, body combat and body balance classes at the gym but it was expensive and work meant I couldn't keep up with it. I'm hoping online workouts will help.

October Goals:
Maintain: Water, vitamins, high protein, fruit and vegetables, CICO
Add in: 150 minutes of exercise a week, broken down to 30 minutes Mon-Fri post work. 10k steps minimum (usually achieved or close to it at work).

CupOfTia · 01/10/2023 19:55

Hi, hope ok to join.

Haven't weighed myself yet (urgh)

But this is gone be the month i start feeling better in myself :)

PlusOneTwoThree · 01/10/2023 13:11

Hello!
I would love to join?
I’m not technically overweight on a bmi checker thingy, although I am the biggest I have ever been, but I carry all of my weight on my belly and would love it not to look like I’m 6 months pregnant
I don’t really do any exercise and me and DH have got into the awful habit of feeding the kids earlier on and then getting a takeaway at around 9/9:30pm once they’re all in bed - several times a week!
This is hurting my pocket just as much as my waistline!!
We are terrible influences on each other and both love a little treat so I would love to have someone to hold me actually accountable? 😊

Are you me?
I'm in exactly the same boat !

december2020 · 01/10/2023 20:09

Can I please join -

I'm "normal" on the BMI calculator but definitely heavier than my normal weight. I've fallen into some bad habits (mostly due to young kids and really stressful long work hours).

This month I'm looking to create some boundaries with work, the start of some healthy habit and hopefully lose 1kg/2lbs.

featheryfancy · 01/10/2023 20:11

Can I join? After getting married early in the year I’ve fallen back into bad habits.
Aiming for 2 stone off following 16:8 and just generally healthy eating

ModeWeasel · 01/10/2023 20:13

Great thread! Have just lost nearly a stone over a few months but seem to have a psychological barrier to get down through the next stone mark.

Pumpkinshine · 01/10/2023 20:32

I’m in with a new seasonal name change.

I lost 2lbs in September. Also an improvement in muscle tone as I have been able to do lots of walking.

I want to be happy in my skin this Christmas and not feel like the chubby one in my friendship group.

TheRealHousewife · 01/10/2023 20:37

You’re welcome @wiltingflower. BTW great post you shared, thanks!

Welcome to the thread @CupOfTia @ModeWeasel @featheryfancy @december2020 you’ll all soon be in the swing of it! Getting into the right headspace, setting your owns goals, planning your healthy menus etc and by this time next month you’ll be seeing real results! We don’t have to be the ‘frog’ in the pic 😬

PatienceOfEngels · 01/10/2023 20:53

I'm in!

I'm overweight - need to lose 9kg to get to a healthy BMI.
It's all piled on the last 2.5 years. The second lockdown at the beginning of 2021 in combination with part-time study just pied on the weight and I haven't been able to shift it. I managed to drop 7kg from last summer but then have put 5 of that back on! Ideally I'd like to lose 12kg but just 5 would be a start.

I hate calorie counting as it tends to make me get a bit obsessive. Trying to focus on whole foods and massively reduce any UPF/sugar. I really like Dr Rangan Chatterjee's books which think about the big picture and not just food. I've suffered from stress a lot in the past which always kills any good intentions and caused some physical problems last year which meant I found it hard to exercise.

I'm trying to focus on:
-getting 10k steps in a day, usually with a walk in the evening.
-mini 5 minute strength workout every day in the kitchen (5 squats, 5 calf raises, 5 lunges each side, 5 tricep dips and 5 push ups).
-just restarted c25k (I was a runner all through my 30s but the pandemic and a few injuries stopped me so I need to start slow. Since I turned 40 everything has started hurting).
-I don't drink caffeine after 12 and have cut out alcohol (not a drop since January).
-we mostly cook from scratch anyway (lots of batch cooking - today I made 5 lots of bolognes for the freezer and lunch portions of a spice Thai squash soup), but am trying to get in 30 different plants (fruit, veg, pulses, nits etc) every week.
-try to resist bingeing junk on days I'm home alone (I really struggle with this).
-try not to eat after dinner (I REALLY struggle with this one) so I have a 12 hour no eating window. I'm trying to prompt myself into good habits and put herbal tea out ready for me, but as soon as my husband starts eating something I want it too!
-I love yoga with Adrienne but find it hard to pick up.
-I read before bed every night to stop me doom scrolling.

I know most of the above wasn't food but when I feel more relaxed and less stressed I tend to be able to make better choices when it comes to my health.

UtahGirl12 · 01/10/2023 21:07

Can I join please? I have over 60 pounds to lose. 55, post menopausal with no energy.

I'm 2 months post Zoe results, and I'm really feeling the health benefits of eating this way as my diet was pretty shocking before. It's not resulted in any weight loss yet though, so I've joined the gym today to get more active!

Got a huge incentive in that our eldest is getting married next Summer abroad, and really don't want to look back at myself in the wedding photos and feel regret!

Will check in everyday to keep myself accountable. Looking forward to getting to know you all! Smile

Newname2308 · 01/10/2023 23:04

@TheRealHousewife The BetterMe app isn’t free, but there’s a special deal for 3 months for about £30. I’m going to see how that goes and then decide if I want to keep paying. It’s got loads of workouts , plus meal plans every day. I like the way it covers everything!

SaltySeaCat · 02/10/2023 07:32

Hello 👋 please could I join too. I’ve made some big changes this year - given up alcohol, started exercising and started HRT. I’ve lost 32 pounds since May after a liver scan showed a fatty liver. I lost 7 pounds in September and am now near the top of the healthy weight range (was one pound off being obese in May) and would like to lose another 7-11 pounds (not quite sure when to stop yet).
I have fallen into Time Restricted Eating and am going to continue with that. Also currently reading Ultra Processed People which is quite horrifying!
I would love your company for this next step and then on to maintenance…. Thanks.
SW 12 stone 7
CW 10 stone 3
GW 9 stone 6 (maybe…)

SaltySeaCat · 02/10/2023 07:34

I’d love to do Zoe but can’t afford it at the moment.

TheRealHousewife · 02/10/2023 07:39

Good Morning All

You’re welcome @CupOfTia 👍

Welcome to the thread @UtahGirl12 … are you from Utah? I was wait listed for Zoe but when I did the online assessment, being celiac disqualified me. It’s great you’ve got such a significant goal to aim for. Are you the mother of the bride or the groom? When the time comes, I’m sure you’ll look absolutely elegant!

Thank you @Newname2308 . It’s great that you’ve discovered such a useful app.

Menu
Meal 1 - Tomato soup & GF seeded bread.
Meal 2 - Salmon fillet, peas, carrots, broccoli. A sauce of some kind.
Tea, black coffee and water water water … why is it so hard to get the wet stuff down! 💧

Exercise
Session 1 - Hand weights.
Session 2 - Floor exercises.

Set your intentions ladies, plan for success. Failure to plan is planning to fail 😬

Hi, coming in for month 2! I managed to lose 2.5kg last month, so very happy about that. I go on holiday at the end of this month, so I wouldn't mind getting another 1-2kg gone - although I know I'll put it back on while I'm away 😆
I did have pizza, and a glass of wine, this weekend so I'm not expecting too much on Wednesday.

TheRealHousewife · 02/10/2023 11:41

Great to have you join us all again @Kazziek 👍. I always make a concerted effort before holidays just for the extra wriggle room 🤣

@TheRealHousewife Thank you for the new thread and for last month.

I do 16:8 and finding it suits me well. Weight loss slowed in September. Today I was 112.7 kg. Aiming for 110 kg by the end of the month. Then I'll be able to get into some more too-tight clothes.

I'm cleaning the kitchen today and making the online order so I can get some batch cooking done and enjoy my meals in there.

I listened to "Ultra-Processed People" over the past few days. It's spurred me on to eat more veg and salad.
