A fresh new month; perfect time to re-set the mind, outline goals and affirm intentions. A fresh start to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to stay healthy, lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and to exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 1lb. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - Positive thought:- If you were to lose on average of a 1lb per you could be a stone lighter by Christmas 🎄

Can I join? I've put on quite a bit of weight over the last year - a combination of rather enthusiastically reintroducing wheat and dairy after not eating them for 8 months, and starting a new very busy job and failing to fit in exercise.

I've had enough of faddy diets, and I don't want to calorie count or weigh myself. I will go by how I feel and look, and how my clothes fit me! My plan is to cut down on red meat, processed foods and snacking, to eat lots of veg and drink more water, and to cut back down a bit on wheat and dairy. Also to reduce portion size at dinner a bit - I tend to eat as much as dh, and I probably shouldn't!

TheRealHousewife · 01/10/2023 10:37

Hi @LivingDeadGirlUK Great to have you join us again 👍 Well done on ending the month with a loss. Every bit counts; a loss is a loss😬 I’ve had the most frustrating plateaus that have lasted months. The key is being consistent with your healthy eating and just keep at it until the scales decide to catch up.

Welcome to the thread @AllProperTeaIsTheft Yes I totally agree, diets don’t work. Especially in the long term when people revert back to how they ate before. Portion control will certainly help you in achieving your goals. My other half is nearly double my weight and a good foot taller; yet if he dishes up he gives me the same portions as himself. That’s just too much food for me. BTW Congratulation's on the new job!

Hellooo... can I join pls? over the last 6/8 months I've piled a ton of weight back on again, purely by overindulging!!
Would love to lose 10-14lbs... starting today with getting more veggies back on the plate and drinking more water, as I'm dreadful at it!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/10/2023 10:49

@TheRealHousewife My dh is actually a pretty similar size to me, but has always had an efficient metabolism Envy. He does do more exercise than me, but he's starting to put on a bit of weight too, so he is (for the first time in our 20-odd years together) actually up for a bit of a diet re-vamp! It's so much easier when the people you live with are on-board. Teen ds lifts weights and is keen on healthy eating with plenty of lean protein, so no worries about him! Dd is off at university, so goodness knows what she's eating Grin.

Diah · 01/10/2023 10:55

I’m in! When I saw the photos from Christmas last year I knew it was time to do something about my weight, with the aim of being a healthy weight by Christmas this year. I have taken it slowly with a lot of plateauing, but lost just over a stone overall, and have been weight training so have generally toned up a lot and feeling good about myself.

I am now hovering on the border between a healthy BMI and overweight, so I would love to have a half stone buffer on that. A stone by Christmas would be marvellous!

I’ll check in on Wednesday after a weigh in 🙂

TheRealHousewife · 01/10/2023 11:53

Welcome to the thread @CowboyBootsForAllOcassions & @Diah The ladies on these threads are very supportive and encouraging. They can help in motivating real change. Just imagine how you’d feel and look this time next week, month, by Christmas just by being consistent in your healthy eating, moving more and checking in on the thread regularly 👍

@AllProperTeaIsTheft Annoying isn’t it! My other drops weight so easily too when he puts his mind to it. Down to their increased muscle mass. Strength training is very useful for females to assist in building more muscle.

Hi everyone, dipping my toes in here! I joined ww a month ago and have lost 9.5lb. Funnily enough I weigh on a Wednesday, so this is perfect!

We are away to Cyprus on the 19th of the month for my Mum’s wedding, so hoping to shift a few more lbs before then x

TheRealHousewife · 01/10/2023 11:57

Wow @BucksOxonMum 9.5lbs is an awesome monthly results. 👏👏👏👏

@TheRealHousewife I did do some weights for a while and felt great for it, although I find it very boring to do! I've been wondering if I could have similar effects from doing yoga (specifically routines for strength) which I find much more enjoyable!

Newname2308 · 01/10/2023 12:21

I’m in - I started the Better Me app 3 weeks ago, and it’s suiting me. Logging everything to monitor calories (just helps me be mindful, I don’t worry if/when I go over the suggested level), and it’s forcing me to look at things like protein as well which I’ve ignored thus far. So I’m pleased it’s educating me a bit!
i’m failing miserably on the water intake, but I’m doing the short workout every day which is forming a habit 👍
70kg on 8/9, 68kg today (was away last weekend which undid some of my good work 😩🤣). I weigh every day but will record Wednesdays on here as extra accountability.
I hope to get to 60kg.

Wow @BucksOxonMum 9.5lbs is an awesome monthly results. 👏👏👏👏

Thanks so much! Really very pleased with it.

Have started a cold this morning though, so hoping I will be okay - tend to snack on comfort foods when I’m poorly!

Just saw @AllProperTeaIsTheft mention Yoga. I used to do this all the time when I was younger, and have recently taken it up again. Absolutely loving it!

WeirdPookah · 01/10/2023 12:56

Not having the best weekend, though walked a really long way yesterday, which did end up with fish and chips!

But back for this thread again, it's my birthday coming up this month, so not sure how much will go on for that, I usually make an apple cake for myself, it doesn't have icing, loads of apples.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/10/2023 13:03

Jealous of your Cyprus trip, @BucksOxonMum ! Incidentally, I spent most of my life in Bucks & Oxon (but am a long way from there these days!).

I honestly can’t wait to go and get some sun!

Whereabouts were you? We are Stokenchurch, so right on the border. Love it here, only recently moved.

Can't believe it's time for an October thread! I am leaping on board.

I've been getting to grips with nutracheck over the last month. It's so much better than myfitnesspal - I'm guessing it's Uk based? As it's so much easier to find things! Went to pizza express last night and whilst I enjoyed my meal, it's really an eye opener to see just how many calories are in what.

Good luck to everyone in October. I'm hopeful that we can still make a real difference by Christmas time 👍🏻

BucksOxonMum · 01/10/2023 13:09

@LemonDrizzle23 Love Nutracheck. And yes, pretty certain it’s UK based.

PlusOneTwoThree · 01/10/2023 13:11

Hello!
I would love to join?
I’m not technically overweight on a bmi checker thingy, although I am the biggest I have ever been, but I carry all of my weight on my belly and would love it not to look like I’m 6 months pregnant
I don’t really do any exercise and me and DH have got into the awful habit of feeding the kids earlier on and then getting a takeaway at around 9/9:30pm once they’re all in bed - several times a week!
This is hurting my pocket just as much as my waistline!!
We are terrible influences on each other and both love a little treat so I would love to have someone to hold me actually accountable? 😊

I lived in the Beaconsfield/High Wycombe area when I was a kid, then not far from Oxford later on, for about 12 years. I really miss Oxford!

BucksOxonMum · 01/10/2023 13:41

I could have written this myself. My DH and I are always ‘treating ourselves’ and it has to stop. It has gotten better since I’ve been on WW, but he’s still snacking.

I used to live in Beaconsfield, gorgeous place. I’m about half an hour from Oxford I think.
