A fresh new month; perfect time to re-set the mind, outline goals and affirm intentions. A fresh start to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to stay healthy, lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and to exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 1lb. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - Positive thought:- If you were to lose on average of a 1lb per you could be a stone lighter by Christmas 🎄

You know what they say about the best laid plans, I was really looking forward to coming home, batch cooking split pea soup, lentil soup and green tomato chutney... but... park my car to go into supermarket and see my back tyre is flat as anything when I come out. So ended up taking it to my parent's, Mum ran me home with shopping, then back again to see if the tyre would pump up. Seems to have done, and so far staying up, but see what happens on school run, or else taxi to sports classes tonight.
URGH... home so late, and stressed, didn't want to try and cook anything. So put the soaked lentils etc in the freezer for another day.

So food plans changed, as I also was going to cook sauce for paneer curry, and just no time (nor inclination) left, so grabbed a curry from the freezer, will add a bunch more veg to go further for dinner, and had bought on a whim reduced samosas, we can have those with it!

B: Black bean burrito
L: Leeks, courgettes, fried egg
D: Vegetable korma, vegetable samosa
raspberries for snack

Goals for October.
I'm 60lbs down total now. 🎉
It's my birthday this month and plan to enjoy a takeaway and to make an apple cake, have discussed the gifting of chocolate etc with my husband, so hopefully won't get any!
I'd be happy losing 5lbs this month, but would settle for not gaining!
And a plan to try and avoid the avalanche of things arriving in stores for Christmas food.

TheRealHousewife · 02/10/2023 13:45

@WeirdPookah I’m still agog at your 60lbs loss … awesome!!!! 🙌👏👏👏Here’s wishing you a fabulous Birthday Month 🥳🥳🥳

Everything started off with good intentions here, then DH, being poorly, ordered burgers for lunch, so a minor setback - but the day isn't over yet.

I'm going to try do a small exercise session this evening once DS is asleep.

I feel very lethargic today!

UtahGirl12 · 02/10/2023 14:46

Wow @WeirdPookah 60 pounds!! I want to be you. Please inspire me with all the improvements you have seen losing this weight, as this is what I need to lose.

I went to the gym for the first time today. 1 early morning yoga class and 30 lengths of the pool. Loved them both and feel really pleased with myself. Makes it easier to keep on track with my food!

ThriceInALifetime · 02/10/2023 15:14

Thank you for the new thread! I was being more careful with what I was eating and think had lost a couple of pounds but have been unwell last couple of days. So have hardly eaten anything, will weigh tomorrow or Wednesday.

WeirdPookah · 02/10/2023 20:26

When we got to the highschool for my family to do their sports, loads of equipment was left out, so I was lifting 25KG core bags, that's just less than my loss right now... bloody hell, puts it into perspective!

@UtahGirl12 well, trying to lift those bags was mad, thinking thats gone from my knees. I can nip up the stairs now easier, I have a bad knee from slipping in the shower as a teenager, and it's vastly improved. I can breathe easier, I don't have to breathe through my mouth when lying down now, so my mouth isn't so dry, or throat as tickly. I just feel lighter when moving about in general.

UtahGirl12 · 02/10/2023 21:35

@WeirdPookah that’s amazing! A visual representation of weight loss is so powerful. The health benefits sound amazing too. I wonder if weight loss would stop me snoring? 🤔

CupOfTia · 02/10/2023 21:47

This morning I did a 20min cardio work out, then had a healthy lunch. Vegetable soup for dinner

Then this evening, half a packet of party ring biscuits and a chocolate bar 🙄😂

pacificoceanwhale · 02/10/2023 21:59

I would love to join! This month is going to be the month that I finally shift some of this excess weight. I'm determined.
Currently 13.5stone and would love to get down to 12ish stone by Christmas.
Piled on 2 stone last year during a very stressful time.
I'm going with the Mediterranean diet/way of eating and hope to hit the gym minimum 3 times per week.
Good luck everyone!!! Let's do this 💪🏼

DomesticElf · 03/10/2023 09:15

I did my weigh in today:
SW: 70kg
CW: 65kg
GW: 50kg

So that's no loss over past week.
I have started 16:8 yesterday, hopefully this will kick off the weight loss again. I am feeling better about my reflection in the mirror though.

Exercise wise, I'm fairly active throughout the day with my kids. I have started doing gentle toning exercises (like press ups, and abs work. But post pregnancy and c section 2 months ago, my abs are not very abs) and stretches.

Cleethorpes · 03/10/2023 09:25

Hi, may I join too?

I've lost a lot of weight this year (67 lbs) but am having an incredibly annoying plateau. I need to lose another half a stone to get safely into a healthy weight range, according to my BMI. Then I need to keep it off!

This thread will be really helpful to keep me accountable and chipping away at that last bit.

I'm trying to do 2 hours of exercise each day as I have a very sedentary job. I eat once a day and stay mainly keto (though I'll have carbs now and then).

TheRealHousewife · 03/10/2023 10:05

Welcome to the thread @Cleethorpes. Congratulations! You have already lost a significant amount of weight 😮 that will certainly have had a very healthy benefit on your body and health markers. 👏👏👏

@DomesticElf Plateaus suck but try to keep going 👍. You'll be glad you did 😊

I'm thinking of putting the heating on today 🥶 Anyone else?

How is everyone this morning?

I managed to rein it in yesterday and had a healthy dinner and one small glass of wine and then early to bed.

This morning I've done the nursery run, dog walk and made some scrambled eggs on a bagel thin.
Exercise scheduled at lunch - their a run or true assault bike.

Contemplating signing up to the gym so if I have time I may nip down and enquire - it also has a pool so keen to know what their kids policy is (in case I could take DS with me during weekends for a swim).

sayhellototheworld · 03/10/2023 12:13

Hello everyone, I have some catching up to do on the thread. Life is very busy with baby at home, especially that my little boy is very unsettled in the evenings.

I am 61.1kgs, so that's another 1.1kg down for me.

We had health visitor today, I am about to start writing my personal statement (I decided to apply to midwifery from next year Autumn). It's my husband's weekend today and tomorrow, so I am hoping for some coffee out.

WeirdPookah · 03/10/2023 12:30

I managed to get my green tomato chutney cooked today, though worried the recipe I used has made it a bit too spicy/salty than the excellent one I made last year. Got veggie sausage and green split pea soup in slow cooker.

Should have gone for a walk, the weather really cleared up after it looked like a wet start. Hopefully get a good long walk tomorrow. Will get a short walk in at school pick up.

B: Black bean burrito
L: Lentil dal, cabbage
D: Roasted tomato, almond and nutritional yeast sauce over cauliflower (family has pasta)
kiwi, protein pudding for snack

@UtahGirl12 my husband has been losing a bit of weight too, and it's definitely helped his snoring!

Cleethorpes · 03/10/2023 13:08

@TheRealHousewife Being chilly is one of (the few) negatives that I've found from weight loss. My heating went on yesterday and my dogs are very happy about that!

There was a really fun thread about the unexpected results of losing weight, discovering that hotel bathrobes weren't really too small after all, that sort of thing. I'll see if I can find it.

Cleethorpes · 03/10/2023 13:12

It was called 'Unexpected or unusual advantages of weight loss'. Apologies, I don't know how to link threads into other threads. 🙂

I successfully lost approx 2 stone a (good) few years ago and secretly loved feeling cold, knowing it was a sure sign I was losing weight 🙈

sayhellototheworld · 03/10/2023 13:20

@TheRealHousewife loving the Optimistic October. It actually applies to me. 3rd- "take a small step towards your goal" and I'm writing my personal statement to send my application to uni. I am not in the best place currently (I think I have PPD, my GP put me on antidepressants and I was referred to mental health services), so anything that helps me survive is godsend.

2Early4Breakfast · 03/10/2023 13:52

I got the Audible UPF book with a free credit from amazon prime. There's also the podcast with the brothers "A Thorough Examination".

Heating is on one hour in the morning and two hours in the evening.

my WoW is 112.3 kg. A loss of 0.4 kg. I know a slow and sustainable loss is best, but at this rate it'll take me two years to get within shouting distance of a healthy weight/bmi. I just don't want to lose motivation. My dairy intake has crept up, so that would be something to pay more attention to.

TheRealHousewife · 03/10/2023 15:40

@sayhellototheworld Congratulations on your baby ❤️ I'm so pleased you’re being supported in your ppd! Wishing you every success with your uni application too!

@Cleethorpes thank you for the thread signpost 👍 One unexpected weight loss result for me is that my rings are all too big! I really need to get my wedding, eternity and engagement rings resized. They came off again in the shower this morning when I was conditioning my hair. I really don’t want to lose them when out and about so need to sort asap.

@2Early4Breakfast I will have a look at my Prime and see if there are any credits. Either way I think I will download the UPF audio book. I’m also reading a bit around the MIND way of eating. Predominantly based on the Mediterranean diet. Basically it’s fresh foods and oil's rather than anything processed. I like how vibrant I can feel when eating clean. Or rather I notice how sluggish I get if I have too much gf bread/white rice/gf pasta etc.

@WeirdPookah Tasty menu you posted 😋😋😋

@UtahGirl12 I started snoring for the first time in my life about 18 months ago and it's definitely linked to weight gain. I was listening to a podcast (can't remember who was speaking but it was the feel better, live more one) and they talked about how your neck is an area where you put on weight without even noticing it which leads to snoring.

I had such good intentions today. Didn't eat too much junk but did eat too many snacks. Hate having PMT as I feel shattered and just want to sleep and eat.

@2Early4Breakfast loved both the book and the podcast!
