⭐️LOSE IT! July. Summer Edition⭐️

Healthy eating in the summer can be tricky to navigate. Summer barbecues, holidays, get togethers with family & friends makes it tougher to stay on track. No one wants to miss out on all the goodies on offer or be seen not joining in. However with forward planning and by setting your intentions you can mitigate any serious undoing of your endeavours. For example having a lighter lunch if you know you’re going for a slap up meal. Eat lighter the following day and keep hydrated to compensate.

Yet another new month will provide the opportunity to embrace a re-set and refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9.5st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back mainly on track. Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes!

It's a shame that there's rain for the school holidays in England. Here in Australia we're in winter and it's so much easier to entertain the kids when it's dry, we've had an unusually dry winter.

I've just put a large chicken in the oven. Most of us will eat and enjoy chicken, my son can be fussy so you just never know if he'll eat it! But I'll be really happy to have some chicken soup tomorrow:) soup has been my mainstay over the last couple of months. I can cram in loads of veg, some protein and it's filling, easy and helps me lose weight.

WeirdPookah · 26/07/2023 08:21

@Ninjachicken @Weatherwax13 I am so sorry you are going through so much right now.

After being disappointed by the 4lb gain, I have been really struggling to get my mind in the right place. Knowing I have more family birthday celebrations coming, with plans for pizza, brownies and a buffet party, it's been so hard to not just give up and say 'eff it all.
But I haven't.
I did fairly well at the weekend, ended up eating spanakopita from the freezer one day after spending hours sorting things in the loft.
Weekdays have been ok, it's harder with the children off, we went for a good walk yesterday and going out shortly for one today.

TheRealHousewife · 26/07/2023 09:45

Good Morning

WOW - I’m basically maintaining. Fluctuating the same couple of pounds.

@WeirdPookah Absolutely well done on not chucking the towel in! It’s the right decision. Partaking in all the summer celebrations and parties is part of a life well lived. Wrapping that round sensible eating is the answer 👍 You’d regret giving in. Good luck and have fun!

@DownUdderer I’m finding soup is my savour too! Protein, fibre, healthy carbs, taste, keeps you full … what’s not to like. Chicken soup is lovely!

@ImALittlePea Fingers crossed the weather improves! Sorry to read something precious has got broken 😞

Menu
Meal 1 - Minestrone Soup. Almonds.
Meal 2 - Chicken & Avocado Buddha bowl.
Tea, black coffee, water.

Evening all. I'm hanging on in there. Just read some of thread to catch up. I loved reading your story @AutisticLegoLover and sorry to hear yours @Ninjachicken @Weatherwax13 . Sending strength to face the next steps.
Stayed the same weight wise for a while. This is what normally happens at this time of year when routines change. Going to try a final push for July.

TheRealHousewife · 26/07/2023 18:33

Hi @Bikechic I’m the same as in trying for a final week of being on point 🤞

Soon time for the next thread 😮 The Soggy Summer has gone by so quickly. Once everyone’s children return to school it’s the early start to the
Christmas Countdown🎄 🎅🏼 🎁

Hi All!

Late to post my WOW, but @ 9 st 12 lb I’m up 2lbs this week. However overall trajectory is in the green so that’s promising. I haven’t done ANY exercise this week at all and hen do @ weekend completely threw me off course (didn’t even drink that much but I am too old to be out until 2am and the tiredness nearly killed me 🤣).

I think I have been having some blood sugar issues, had a few funny spells and so I’m very interested in the Zoe thing. I need to look into this. I do have a glucose meter anyway (not diabetic just have one for work) so can check it but it’s a pain doing it all the time. Going to leave the intermittent fasting for now as feel as though it is contributing to the dizzy spells.

Loving the portobello mushrooms 😋

Sorry to hear about the relationship woes 😢 💔 sending all the strength

WeirdPookah · 27/07/2023 06:42

@TheRealHousewife thanks, I did "test" a couple of the broken brownies I've made for my Mum's birthday, but didn't go overboard with anything else. So I call that a win.
Weigh in, back to just under where I was before all first round of celebrations, so lost 4.2Lbs this week.

School holidays are so hard to get a routine in, we have another week away in Wales to go and I refuse to be a slave to the kitchen so it's going to have to be easier food. I've promised children ice cream (though looking at the rain we are not walking anywhere!) and they want fish and chips after uniform shopping as we have done in the past, I just can't say no to that, as food is a part of celebrations and culture and you can't just ignore that part of food.

Hi all, weighing in at 57.5 kgs this morning so I am still dropping pretty fast. Stress is clearly a good weight loss tool though obviously not a healthy one
things are tough and we now have family here until august 14th
well done to everyone carrying on!
thinking of you @Weatherwax13

Cleotheclimber · 27/07/2023 16:15

@TheRealHousewife it’s called Happy Scale 👍🏻

@Cleotheclimber Thank you, i have that one too but my display is different. I’m on Apple. Are you Android?

@Ninjachicken Sorry to hear of your ongoing stressful situation! I hope you are managing to find some downtime!

Is everyone on holiday or just bored with our thread 😬

OP posts:
TheRealHousewife · 27/07/2023 19:09

@Cleotheclimber On accessing my Happy Scale I’ve noticed I’ve not entered any data since January 😮 I’ve been concentrating on MFP but will start again updating HS … I like the fanfares when you reach a milestone 😬

OP posts:
DownUdderer · 28/07/2023 02:34

I used to love the happy scale app, I used to get fanfares for each pound I dropped because I loved them. I couldn't get that app on my current phone.

I've had a busy week and my brain is frazzled! So last night I couldn't face making soup so I had cold chicken and salad bits, still tasty and very quick to get it together.

I've had a little walk today and that was enjoyable.

Thank goodness it's Friday. Tomorrow we can chill out!

ImALittlePea · 28/07/2023 08:51

Hi @TheRealHousewife mixture of the first week of school holidays and a general bad mood behind my lack of posting over here I'm afraid! I could never get bored of you ladies 😉 Thankfully the week has got better as it's gone on, the weather is still rubbish but at least it's not teeming with rain constantly now.

I'll try and catch up on everyone's posts and progress today 😬🤞

I was convinced I'd be gaining today, I've not been as good as I'd planned (whoopsie mid week wines 🤦‍♀️) and I attacked the cheese and crackers last night, but I've somehow registered a maintain this week. Super thrilled but mindful that I need to not continue along this road as I'll undoubtedly have a whoosh up if I do. I really have struggled with the holiday mindset though, need to find a way to focus.

Those on UK school holidays - I hope your first week has been a decent one!

Its Friday Yes GIF by Denyse®

Good Morning

@DownUdderer Still sounds like a tasty meal! I hope you get some downtime soon! TFIF 😬

Hi @ImALittlePea The weather does look a bit brighter today so hopefully you’ll get play time in the sun ☀️. Positive result considering the cheese, but that’s no biggie. A little bit of what you fancy does you good 👍

Menu
Meal 1 - Minestrone Soup. Boiled Egg. Almonds.
Meal 2 - Salmon, salad, quinoa.
Tea, black coffee and water.

OP posts:
ImALittlePea · 28/07/2023 11:16

It's been drizzling on and off where I am, kids have been happy just playing at home though so a downtime day for us. Which I don't mind when we've also managed a couple of days out, it's the endless days in that I find frustrating and give me the mum guilt!

@DownUdderer you've put me in the mood for chicken salad, thank you! That'll go on the menu a couple of days next week 😁

Interestingly, I've just recalculated my TDEE and the calculation is saying my daily maintenance calories are 1,747 so the fact I'm not gaining does make more sense, as even though I'm not being what I'd consider 'good', my gauge on that is my mental limit of around 1,200. So I've got more allowance than I thought. My 'mild weight loss' (0.5lb/week) allowance is 1,500, which still feels like a lot to me?! I suppose I need to adjust my mentality to the fact I'm 2st lower than when I started, so my calorie needs are different?

Meals today:
Lunch - burger & homemade chips (we're out over dinner time and then I'm working)
Dinner - something quick to grab before my shift

TheRealHousewife · 29/07/2023 07:30

Good Morning

You’ve achieved a very significant loss @ImALittlePea 2stone is awesome 👏. Weather is utterly pants at the moment. So wet! I hope you get some breaks in the weather before you all start climbing the walls.

Menu
Meal 1 - Mediterranean Omelette and salad
Meal 2 - Salmon and Spicy Rice. The piece I got out of the freezer yesterday was massive so salmon it is again today.

Cleotheclimber · 29/07/2023 10:38

@TheRealHousewife that screen is on the logbook section? It is good isn’t it, the fanfares are good 🤩

this morning I have run for 25 mins and made some homemade granola for breakfast to eat with protein yoghurt ✔️ keep going….

TheRealHousewife · 29/07/2023 10:41

Thank you @Cleotheclimber . No Happy Scale fan-fair for me this morning... I'm up! Bugger 😬. Well done on getting your run in! Great start to the day!

Morning all. There's been teenage drama here this last week and I dread to think what the scales will say and I'm bloated from eating the wrong things. My middle child is away with her dad fir a week soon and it's just me and the wee man so I'll be back on track. I get paid on the 1st so I can do a big shop and get some better food. Soup has gone to waste this last week as has yogurt which is shameful.
I'll catch up on the thread in a bit but hope everyone is doing ok.

Weatherwax13 · 30/07/2023 17:15

@Ninjachicken so sorry you're going through the mill like this.
@TheRealHousewife yes the thread seems quiet. I'm home now so I'll be checking in regularly again.
@AutisticLegoLover hope your teenage drama passes. I've found parenting teens and young adults a hundred times tougher than babies or kids!
@ImALittlePea you're doing amazingly well.
I have an "emergency " trauma therapy session tomorrow with my psychologist who found space for me when I told her what was happening. She says I'm having breakdown. I'm lucky to have her.
H has GP appointment for psych referral. He's saying he's desperate to turn things around, he's so ashamed and sorry, he knows now he has a terrible problem blah blah
I've been stuffing myself with ice cream. Can't stomach anything else. Ridiculous but I'm not even focussing on that atm
Back on home scales and I've gained a little since D Day (discovery day) and am now bang on TW

BabyNo03 · 30/07/2023 17:17

Hey!

I'm new to this thread. I did really well starting in April but have totally lost my mojo!

Do you have a WhatsApp group or do you all check in on here?

X

DownUdderer · 31/07/2023 04:48

I've been out for a walk today. I haven't managed to get out for a proper walk in a couple of weeks. I still want to build up my stamina. So I'm glad the have made a start. I did a lot of up and down hills so that definitely builds strength and stamina.

I had a lovely filling lunch. I ate loads of snacks this weekend. It's a bad habit creeping back into my life.

ImALittlePea · 31/07/2023 07:49

I'm glad you're getting some support @Weatherwax13 how are things now you're home?

Walking is such a wonderful activity @DownUdderer one I wish I had more opportunity to do. Well done for getting out!

Welcome to the thread @BabyNo03 we all use the thread for chat and support.

I hope things settle at home with the teenager @AutisticLegoLover

I feel really sluggish and bloated after another over-indulged weekend. It was fun etc, but as it followed on from a week of not really caring much about healthy choices it definitely was just too much. So I'm setting and reaffirming my intentions right now that I will break the holiday mindset and make healthy choices. The major one being no wine 😬

Off to a castle today, so lots of steps incoming! Haven't meal planned for the week yet and need to do the food shop later, but lunch will be a picnic, so I'll have a wrap and an apple.

Here's to a positive week ahead!
