⭐️LOSE IT! July. Summer Edition⭐️

Healthy eating in the summer can be tricky to navigate. Summer barbecues, holidays, get togethers with family & friends makes it tougher to stay on track. No one wants to miss out on all the goodies on offer or be seen not joining in. However with forward planning and by setting your intentions you can mitigate any serious undoing of your endeavours. For example having a lighter lunch if you know you’re going for a slap up meal. Eat lighter the following day and keep hydrated to compensate.

Yet another new month will provide the opportunity to embrace a re-set and refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9.5st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back mainly on track. Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes!

@Ninjachicken really sorry to hear you're having the same problem. It's horrible, isn't it :(
I think I'm falling prey to the sunk costs fallacy.
He started the gool ol' mumsnet Script but at least has packed that crap in and I think I'm getting 90% honesty now.
Some really tough talks to say the least.
Hope you're coping 💐

TooEarly4Breakfast · 15/07/2023 09:55

Lost another pound, so that's the first half-stone gone. I looked at my online supermarket order last night, and felt irritated rather than tempted by all the sweet treat suggestions that they made. Of course, the suggestions are based on my previous orders, so not a surprise. I'll edit the Favourites list and that might make a difference.

WeirdPookah · 15/07/2023 12:25

@TheRealHousewife yes, 55lbs down in total since January!

I am so thrilled, my daughter won student of the year at school!
She's in a 3 intake school, so she won out of over 90 students.

The last couple of days a total bust following any food plan, we had a little party to celebrate her win and our anniversary, then we went out yesterday and going out with family tomorrow!

Today was going ok, but just had a couple of chocolates that are still about from anniversary.
B: english muffin, richmond meat free ham, eggs, miso mushrooms
L: Rice free poke bowl
D: blue masa tortillas with various veg/not-fish for filling.

DownUdderer · 17/07/2023 06:56

Everyone must be having a busy time at the moment :)

I'm really good to try and focus tomorrow and have a great day. I need a few great days in a row. I just want to lose weight instead of maintaining. The kids go back to school tomorrow so I'll be about to have a bit more headspace for dieting.

I hope everyone is keeping well.

AutisticLegoLover · 17/07/2023 07:13

Morning all. 8 days of school left before the holidays for ds bit dd finishes on Thursday. No more school run equals being more careful what I eat. I've gained a pound over the past couple of weeks due to poor choices and being totally out of routine with food. Luckily my exercise has still been good otherwise it would be more than a pound. So back to yogurt and compote for lunch today. I've been having homemade bread toast for breakfast a lot and have run out of porridge oats which isn't good. Pasta for dinner tonight as have sauce to use up. 6 weeks of school holidays is a lot of no school run and those 5 miles a day will be missed.
This week I need to get a load of clothes on vinted. All my sleeveless tops that are my go to summer staple are too big and gaping under the arms/side so my bra cup is half visible and they gape at the back too. A favourite pair of cropped chinos are now ridiculously big and to think last summer I was squeezing into them. For all my weight has stayed more or less the sane with a pound up and down at most I seem to have shrunk more than when I first hit this weight. Clothes are looser than they were a month ago.

Have a great week everyone, don't forget this 🍾! I'm off to catch up on the thread but congratulations to those who are winning and lots of you can do it vibes to those who need them.

Greeting Good Morning GIF by JellaCreative

Good Morning

Hi @DownUdderer I agree the threads are unusually quiet. Hopefully everyone is having a good time! 😬 Well done on sts even with a disrupted routine👍 You’ll soon be back into it!

Congrats on reaching your half stone milestone @TooEarly4Breakfast , awesome 👏

@WeirdPookah WOW 55lbs … that is absolutely awe inspiring👌🔥👏Well done! I must have taken my eye off your stats as it’s taken me by utter surprise!

Menu
Meal 1 - Chicken Cauli Fried ‘Rice’ = 420. 0% Fage & compote = 150.
Meal 2 - Home made gf pizza, Salad & ‘healthy fries’ = 500
Tea, black coffee and water.

Ive been weighing daily in recently as I’m keen to see a loss 😬 I’m down a 1lb since last WOW and I’m working on seeing a small loss on official WOW 👍. I’d really love to get below 9st this year but it’s proving very elusive. I’m shaving calories from a couple of days a weeks but not less than 1000. It’s proving tough to lose anymore being petite framed, disabled and with a wonky thyroid … but I won’t give up. To do so would put me right back where I started (which would make me both unhappy and unhealthy) quicker than a blink of an eye 😅

Is it me or is July speeding by?

Morning all.

Not a great weekend food wise (well a great weekend in that we had a delicious taster meal out on Friday! But not great for losing weight!!). Had a major moment with myself as I looked all wrong in everything I put on, so sulked a bit!

Anyway onwards and upwards, food wasn't great but exercise huge as I had to do 3 1 hour long walks along side DD on ponies she's found to exercise! I'm sure she has the easier end of the arrangement!!!

Weight maintained over the weekend so I'll take that and hope for a lb off by the weekend.

@AutisticLegoLover 7 days left here, she breaks up on Tuesday and that's primary school done!!! I suspect there maybe some emotional stability cake eating next week! I'm not ready for this!

It's raining here, I hope the sun is shining on others today! But if not here's a behind the ears photo from the weekend!

@ginsparkles Crossed posted. I adore your pony photo! So cool! 🐴 I know what you mean about clothes! I have a wardrobe full but on occasion, usually when I want to look my absolute best, nothing looks right! I find it frustrating.

ginsparkles · 17/07/2023 08:23

@TheRealHousewife it's so frustrating especially as the next day when I threw on a pair of jeans, vest top and cardigan to walk the horses, I called into work for an hour and changed boots for heels... and looked very slim! Should have just worn that for dinner Grin

😅😅😅 That is so true! … also mish mash put together clothes usually look spot on and stylish too 😅

Allthegoodnamestakken · 17/07/2023 08:51

@ginsparkles I think you're going to need a pony to ride along on next to her!

@TheRealHousewife do you make your GF pizza base?

As part of my elimination diet I have essentially had to go gluten free, I am missing bread a lot! don't think I could sustain this full time and thankfully I won't have to however it has taught me that I really don't need baked goods/pasta etc. every single day so its been a good lesson in reduction and I am sure I will enjoy things even more when they're kept as a treat.

Didn't WOW but weighed myself yesterday and was 65.2kg, so close to my initial goal of 65kg, I am under no illusions that I will probably have to rejig things when I can eat normally again as the current diet is so restrictive but for now I will take the win!

Plan
Lunch- Berries, dark chocolate rice cakes
Dinner- Gluten free pasta + mince and probably some cheese to make things a little more exciting

ginsparkles · 17/07/2023 08:58

@Allthegoodnamestakken there's quite a nice ready made GF pizza base i get for my lot. I get it from Asda or sainsburys

Am hoping that something might come up in time for me to ride with her !

Allthegoodnamestakken · 17/07/2023 10:00

@ginsparkles unfortunatley not in the UK and I can't even get ready made non GF pizza bases here. I make a great pizza dough as a result though! I will just have to hold off and really enjoy my first pizza in 7 weeks.

TheRealHousewife · 17/07/2023 10:55

@Allthegoodnamestakken Yes i make my own gf bases. I find the bought ones are like cardboard 😬. I use this recipe Gluten Free Pizza It’s very good! Today though (might live to regret it) im making one with Caputo Fioreglut flour for the first time, which actually does contain some gluten free wheat in! I’ll let you know how it works out.

Gluten Free Pizza Recipe

Awesome pliable gluten free pizza. Crisp at the edges, but with dough full of little teeny bubbles that keep it soft inside.

TheRealHousewife · 17/07/2023 10:56

I must add @Allthegoodnamestakken that I add my own toppings. Usually chorizo, chilli, red peppers, grated mozzarella on my own tomato sauce base.

OP posts:
AutisticLegoLover · 17/07/2023 11:20

That portobello mushroom pizza sounds amazing! We had homemade pizza yesterday. And I ate lots of raisins which might explain the personal weather today It's pasta for dinner tonight as I've homemade sauce to use up today.

I'm sorry that you are having relationship troubles @Ninjachicken and @Weatherwax13 and hope things settle soon.

@ImALittlePea I'm not finding the mindset of maintenance easy at all. It's weird after watching what I eat and weighing frequently ti have relaxed on that somewhat. I'm going back to my losing way of eating to keep on track.

WeirdPookah · 17/07/2023 11:37

Well, that's all the celebrations out the way... for 2 weeks! I am going to try to stay on plan for that to minimise the impact of everything else.

Weekend was a total bust, ended up eating some cake on top of that Saturday plan, then Sunday was chinese buffet and, well, I wasn't even trying to be mindful!

One child off school, but went for a walk round the block, hoping it didn't rain either.

So, back to today:
B: Kidney bean burrito
L: Vegetable stew, eggs
D: Broccoli, vegetable sauce, "chorizo" shroomdogs
Iced protein coffee.

Weatherwax13 · 17/07/2023 15:57

Thanks @AutisticLegoLover
Not many folks about it seems having just done a quick catch up read.
I'll be back on board properly when I get home end of July.
Moved into a holiday rental yesterday and found scales for the first time since we've been overseas.
Knew I was losing weight just by my clothes since the marriage crisis erupted three weeks ago - but I've actually dropped 4kg.
Pure stress as up till then, the unofficial jeans waistband test was showing that I was keeping on an even keel.
I've now lost my appetite completely and am having to force myself to eat.
So I'm under TW because of absolute misery. I'd always envisaged this day being a brilliant feeling and had so looked forward to posting it on here.
Ugh

ImALittlePea · 17/07/2023 17:56

Yes it is quieter than some months around here; time of year I guess! Hello all though!

@AutisticLegoLover yes I'm trying to wrap my head around it. I've found myself having my cup-a-soup special on alternate days and a wrap or something eggy on the others. But otherwise, I'm not really changing much.. but the holidays are looming and I know I'll be off plan more so I'm going to try pootling along with some semblance of a balance until then.

We've now got a holiday to Spain booked for the end of September 😁 so that'll be in my mind to not be too 'weekendy' for the entire summer! As I'll want to be in good shape for that.

I agree @TheRealHousewife @ginsparkles quite often the outfits we just throw together can look much nicer than the ones we try and curate carefully!

I hope the elimination diet gives you the answers you're after @Allthegoodnamestakken and some nice little results as a bonus along the way too!

Hopefully the return of school routine will give you a step change to start the downward trajectory again @DownUdderer I'm at the opposite end of that - school breaks up on Friday so I've got six weeks of trying not to pile it all back on 😂

Sending hugs hugs @Weatherwax13 things sound very tough and I'm sorry it's impacting the way it is. It's lovely to have hit TW of course, but not under a cloud and not in a celebratory way.

Things are all trundling along quite nicely here tbh. A rare week without much drama! Hah. Equally looking forward to and dreading the school holidays 😂 it's our wedding anniversary this week (a big one too) so we'll be celebrating at the weekend, especially on the back of thinking we weren't going to make it at the start of the year.

Normal service for the week...
Lunch - cup-a-soup special 😁
Dinner - homemade tortilla pizza with pepperoni, peppers, onion and other veg, and homemade wedges

I might 👀 have some wine in the fridge which I'll probably be opening tonight. Just in the mood. But got some gardening to do once kids are in bed if I can face it first.

TTFN lovely losers 🫶

TooEarly4Breakfast · 17/07/2023 20:15

Things were very stressful this morning, and I spent much of it in tears. I ate the right food, but in the wrong proportions - too much fat and carbs, very little protein, no fruit or veg. Didn't even spend more than twenty minutes in my beloved garden, which normally perks me right up.

I'll weigh tomorrow, see how much damage I've done. If I don't weigh, I'll think I'm still seven pounds down, and get deeper in this spiral.

And I'll make a strict plan tonight and get everything ready in the fridge.

ImALittlePea · 17/07/2023 21:01

Well done for having a plan @TooEarly4Breakfast it's so easy to fall onto the spiral when you're having a bad day/s. Sorry things are stressful and I hope things get better soon for you, and you get to spend more time in the garden to lift your spirits.

DownUdderer · 18/07/2023 05:58

I'm trying to put together a plan. I want to do an 18km walk that I can get to with public transport and get home from the other end with public transport too. I have a couple of ideas and I just need to get on a map and measure distances. I want to build up my stamina over the next 6 weeks. I just need a goal to work towards. I have two walks I want to accomplish in my build up. I just need something to focus on. I enjoy walking and do it all the time, but I haven't had a good walk in a couple of weeks. I sometimes enjoy them more if I'm building towards something, this time I'll build towards 18km.

I'm hoping to get looking at maps this evening.

I have had an ok day of food. But it could be better.

AutisticLegoLover · 18/07/2023 06:50

55.1kg this morning. I really want to get back down to around 54kg. Still 2lbs either side of my target weight is fine with me.

I'm sorry so many of you are not in a happy place.

@Weatherwax13 congratulations on reaching your TW! although im sorry you aren't in a place to feel celebratoryFlowers

Homemade bread toast for breakfast, yogurt and compote chia and honey for lunch, soup for dinner. I successfully managed not to eat sweets yesterday which is a good start. Didn't avoid chocolate but did avoid sweets.

I am so tired the last 3 weeks now and didn't sleep well last night. I'll be glad of the summer holidays to try and get more sleep and time to make better dinners.

Hope everyone has a good day 🍾

ImALittlePea · 18/07/2023 07:50

Can't beat homemade bread @AutisticLegoLover hope all is ok with you? I recall a health issue, so I hope that is all in hand and you're ok.

Today I'm off to a nearby country park with the 2yo and a friend/her kids. Packing a lunch for DD but I'll probably just eat her leftovers and an apple. Dinner tonight is going to be a takeaway Italian feast from a local restaurant.. plus wine 😬😂 not a normal midweek endeavour but we have a generous voucher to use and it's the only day we can do it. Rest of the week will be focused on water, steps and the like.

Have a good day!
