⭐️LOSE IT! July. Summer Edition⭐️

Healthy eating in the summer can be tricky to navigate. Summer barbecues, holidays, get togethers with family & friends makes it tougher to stay on track. No one wants to miss out on all the goodies on offer or be seen not joining in. However with forward planning and by setting your intentions you can mitigate any serious undoing of your endeavours. For example having a lighter lunch if you know you’re going for a slap up meal. Eat lighter the following day and keep hydrated to compensate.

Yet another new month will provide the opportunity to embrace a re-set and refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9.5st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back mainly on track. Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes!

Thank you for your kind words @ImALittlePea The sun is shining this morning and I'm a little more positive about how to handle things. I haven't gained, and I've found that I can survive an unhappy day without emotional overeating.

There's a lot to navigate over the next few days/weeks. I'm going to get as healthy as possible so that I can deal with it in a healthy way.

LavenderfortheBees · 18/07/2023 16:44

Sorry for those of us who are struggling. It is so often replicated in our appetite either comfort eating or can't face food. Neither is good.

I have been a little stressed at work recently and get both sides of it. The urge to eat my feelings but also restrict to gain control. I've managed so far by free eating strawberries when anxious and planning for treats at a later, calmer time. Hope it all evens out.

Have been doing well generally and weight seems to have settled a little calmer after jumping all over the place last week. Will WOW tomorrow to confirm. Away this weekend with lots of drinking and celebrating so prepping now!

RaisingTeens · 18/07/2023 18:59

Hi everyone, new here. I’ve recently started 16:8 fasting. Been about 8 weeks now and I’ve lost a stone. But finding I’m slipping a bit now. Hoping to find some motivation and advice on here. x

WeirdPookah · 18/07/2023 19:25

@Weatherwax13 I am sorry things are so hard for you right now.

Emotional eating is so hard. If I'm a bit stressed etc I will eat more, when it gets to being so miserable I just can't eat. It never helps. I never learn!

Today has been ok food wise, didn't exercise much, still got a child off school, so cleaned and then it was pouring with rain, so didn't walk at school pick up time. Going to miss this extra 15 minutes walk I would do most days over the holidays.

B: Kidney bean burrito
L: Peach haricot curry with cabbage
D: roasted tomato/almond sauce over broccoli.
iced protein coffee

@DownUdderer that sounds fun planning out on maps!

LavenderfortheBees · 18/07/2023 19:48

Recipe plug while I'm here. Recently been going to this website:

https://www.indianhealthyrecipes.com/

Made the palak paneer and the chana masala so far over the past week. Both low calorie and delicious. It's just DP and me so usually save some for lunch the next day as well. So far just done brown rice cooked in spices for the sides as not that adventurous but considering doing aloo gobi or okra at some point next week instead of rice.

Morning All

hope you’re all well

recording this as my WOW but I have been weighing daily using Happy Scale app as I like the weekly rate section to see if it’s green or red 😂
I have been very strict with myself this week and so this mornings WOW was 9 st 10 lb which is great 😃 so pleased!! It has been very boring though being strict.
I’ve been eating salads for lunch, having a protein pudding for snack and then my dinner. Still sticking with my 16:8. It’s probably not sustainable but I’m in a good headspace with it so will keep it up (for now!).

I did 2 x runs last weekend with the C25K plan and really enjoying it! Haven’t done any exercise so far this week though, although keeping up with the 15K steps a day as a goal.

I was aiming for another run today but I have a poorly toddler to watch today instead of nursery/work! Maybe I will do a home workout if I can.
I also have a hen do at the weekend, so we will see what the damage is next week…!

keep going everyone!!

AutisticLegoLover · 19/07/2023 07:48

@Cleotheclimber well done, that's great!

My happy scale has shown a slight gain so need to rein it in now. 55.25kg or 8st 9lb this morning. Still only a pound over target but annoying all the same.

Have a great day everyone!

LavenderfortheBees · 19/07/2023 09:47

Morning all.

WOW very pleased at 9st 3lb. On paper, that is 6lb less than last week but that was a week with crazy fluctuations so in reality more like a 1-2lb loss I think. Just looked over my longer term records and it's a 7lb loss over 5 weeks so just over a pound a week which is exactly what I'm aiming for.

Away this weekend and not going to track at all so expect a STS or slight gain next week but it will be temp and back to normal after that as don't have any big plans for August.

For the last 7lbs lost, I've been in the uncharted territory of lowest ever adult weight which is a strange feeling. I'd like to get into the 8st bracket to see what that feels like but would be pretty happy up to 9.5st I think.

My size 10 clothes are still fitting but feeling a bit loose and have literally nothing smaller than a 10. Going to go shopping tomorrow and see if I can pick up a few bits in an 8 which is crazy!

Sending good vibes to all.

Karatema · 19/07/2023 10:44

CW: 76.5

I am hoping to get back on track this week; we are nearly back to normal.

NothingTraLaLa · 19/07/2023 10:53

I’ve still got my blood sugar monitor on as part of the Zoe testing phase, so it’s been another week of experimental eating. For example, one experiment involved five breakfasts of either a carb (in my case, a bagel) or a fat/protein (I had almond butter) or a combination of the two, with other variables as to timings and exercise. I’m not sure that all those bagels (and an entire tub of almond butter) have done my bid to lose weight an enormous amount of good!

@TheRealHousewife you had a question about putting on the monitor. It really didn’t hurt - it was a bit like being flicked with an elastic band. The finger prick blood test hurt much more 😁

I weighed in today at 124.8lbs, which isn’t too bad, and not really up on last week; still some way to go to my target of 119lbs.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 19/07/2023 11:12

@Weatherwax13 sorry to hear of your troubles and being unable to celebrate your goal. You have done so well to reach it no matter the circumstances!

@NothingTraLaLa did you have to eat 5 bagels in one day? or one a day for 5 days? I love bagels but think i'd get sick of them 5 days in a row.

I am still on my mission to increase exercise as well as decreasing food. Managed 1 workout so far this week so 2 more to fit in!

WeirdPookah · 19/07/2023 11:20

@LavenderfortheBees that website looks great, I'm going to have a look around later.

Today I walked a good distance, got keys cut for caravan and in the indoor market, a bakery is back and I absolutely wanted these huge slices of Cookie Pies, they looked so good. But I didn't!

Just about an hour's walk total, including powering up a long hill on the way home.

B: Black bean burrito
L: Cold roasted vegetables, chicken
D: Cauliflower and some leftover Indian takeaway curry from freezer
fresh apricot for snack

NothingTraLaLa · 19/07/2023 11:29

@Allthegoodnamestakken it was 4 plain bagels spread over 5 days (the day without a bagel was 48g almond butter, which I can tell you is A LOT when you’re just eating it from a bowl with a spoon). Gutted that my body didn’t suppress the sugar spike as it was supposed to with food sequencing or exercise; I’m not sure why, unless it was because I’d just started my period which apparently can affect things, I am a bloody martyr to my hormones 🙄

Allthegoodnamestakken · 19/07/2023 14:21

@LavenderfortheBees thanks for the link I love Indian food! can't eat it currently but one to bookmark for when I can add fun things back to my diet.
A Friday indian is a real downfall of mine so good to have healthier options

DownUdderer · 20/07/2023 01:05

I've weighed in this morning, I weigh most mornings if I remember. I'm down a pound! Hooray! I'm normal weight down from overweight! I'm one stone down in total! I'm so relieved! And happy.

The Zoe nutrition blood sugar levels thing sounds pretty interesting and confusing! I can tell in myself when I'm feeling a sugar rush and then crash, it makes me feel sick in my stomach. I sometimes line my stomach with protein before having a sweet treat and that definitely helps me feel more on an even keel. I had gestational diabetes with my last baby (he's 7 now) and I remember some of the advice from then with regards to sugar and carbs. If I can plan my food well during the day I don't get crashes and feelings of starving hunger. But sometimes my heart overrides my brain :)

AutisticLegoLover · 20/07/2023 06:58

@DownUdderer that's brilliant well done! Such a great feeling isn't itSmile

55.05kg this morning which is much better. I've got porridge with chia soaking in the jug while I have a cup of tea. I've been at home a lot this week and I'm just wanting sweets all the time. I'm determined to put a stop to that today. I've not been sleeping well this week and that won't be helping. I did go to sleep at least an hour earlier than normal last night and did feel better for it when I woke up.

Have a great day!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 20/07/2023 08:27

@DownUdderer Well done on the loss! I know what you mean about heart overriding brain sometimes. I feel awful If I binge on sugar usually I control myself but sometimes it just tastes so good!

forgot to weigh myself yesterday and today as both days where early starts! made it to the gym this morning though for workout number 2/3 this week so feeling good, same plan for tomorrow. I will also go riding on Saturday, so I will be doing 4 workouts. I struggle to count riding as mentally it doesn't feel like intentional exercise but my muscles hurt just as much as after a weight lifting session so I should count it really.

Food today
Lunch- Pasta salad (Gluten free)
Dinner- Something with eggs because the chickens are being waay to productive at the moment and I can't use them up in a cake as usual

TooEarly4Breakfast · 20/07/2023 09:32

@DownUdderer Interesting what you say about protein and sugar.

I went through a bad patch some weeks ago when I was swinging from greasy fry-up breakfast to bags of sweet binge food during the day and back to oven beige food in the evening. Then the whole thing would start again the next day.

The only solution for me has been to cut out sugar almost entirely. Cravings are almost non-existent now.

I've been out in the garden a lot more, and feel so much better for it.

TheRealHousewife · 20/07/2023 09:32

Good Morning

Gosh, the threads been busy! Apologies as I didn’t get opportunity to post yesterday as was out and about attending health appointments. I did weigh yesterday morning = WOW - 1/2lb off. Better than on I suppose 😬

@TooEarly4Breakfast Ihope you’re feeling somewhat better ❤️ I too find solace in the garden, especially when feeling frazzled. It’s good to connect with nature, very therapeutic.

@DownUdderer Sounds a great plan and increased walking with definitely increase stamina … Please stay safe if in unfamiliar territory. Well done on your loss and entering the ‘normal’ range 👌

@RaisingTeens Welcome to the thread and congratulations on your loss to date 👍

@LavenderfortheBees Thank you for sharing the recipe link. I’m definitely going to have a look around the site 😋 I think variety definitely helps to keep things interesting.

@NothingTraLaLa I did the online Zoe Assessment and unfortunately being celiac disqualifies me. Even though the muffin test is gluten free 🤷‍♀️ I’d love to partake. I even emailed the founder professor Tim Spector 😬 He did say they are looking at making the test more inclusive but nothing so far is in the pipeline.

@WeirdPookah Well done on swerving the Cookie Pies, not an easy feat!

@AutisticLegoLover Thats another positive weigh in 👌 I’ll post the Portobello mushroom pizza recipe later 👍

@Allthegoodnamestakken Well done on getting your workouts in, not easy when you have a busy life.

I hope I haven’t missed anyone ❤️

Menu
Meal 1 - 2 Boiled eggs. Minestrone Vegetable Soup.

Meal 2 - Spicy salmon and cauli rice. Greek yoghurt and chopped fresh pear and apple.

Tea, black coffee and water.

This is a couple I made previously @AutisticLegoLover

I usually cook the mushroom by itself in the oven for 10 mins before topping to get rid of the water that tends to come out of mushrooms 🍄

@TheRealHousewife I might have to go and buy some portobello mushrooms now. I'd have mine with red pepper and pineapple. My favourite pizza toppings are mushrooms, pineapple and red pepper but seeing as the mushroom is shredded there is just use the others. People can ge funny about mushrooms but I really like them. Fresh tomatoes on the other hand make me feel sick to even look at. It's the watery seedy bit.

WeirdPookah · 20/07/2023 10:41

Well, well, well, if it isn't the consequences of my own actions!!
4lbs UP this week, after toastie, cheesecake, fish&chips, ice cream, Chinese buffet and carrot cake, that's hardly surprising.

Trying really hard to not allow it to drag me down. I have a terrible all or nothing attitude that can creep up on me.

Been for a walk, menu planned.

B: Black bean burrito
L: Poha
D: Roast vegetables and Gosh sausages.

AutisticLegoLover · 20/07/2023 10:47

@WeirdPookah you' re grieving, don't beat yourself up x

What's Poha? I wish my foods were more exciting but I'm very boring.

WeirdPookah · 20/07/2023 11:04

@AutisticLegoLover thank you. I know there has been comfort eating in there, hidden with the celebrations. It's been hard being happy when underneath it is still sad.

Poha is flattened rice flakes, you re-hydrate them, then add to cooked, spiced vegetables, cook briefly to retain texture. It's a common breakfast in India.
