⭐️LOSE IT! July. Summer Edition⭐️

Healthy eating in the summer can be tricky to navigate. Summer barbecues, holidays, get togethers with family & friends makes it tougher to stay on track. No one wants to miss out on all the goodies on offer or be seen not joining in. However with forward planning and by setting your intentions you can mitigate any serious undoing of your endeavours. For example having a lighter lunch if you know you’re going for a slap up meal. Eat lighter the following day and keep hydrated to compensate.

Yet another new month will provide the opportunity to embrace a re-set and refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9.5st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back mainly on track. Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes!

Morning all.
I'm up 1lb this week. No surprise as things have gradually slipped. Need to find some will power again. Trouble is I feel like I've done well by not buying an 'eat it now' bakery item from supermarket, but then I eat biscuits at home. Must track on mfp!

TheRealHousewife · 12/07/2023 10:08

Good Morning

Are you feeling a little more refreshed today @ImALittlePea ? 🤞

@WeirdPookah Lovely tasty menu you have there! 😋

@buzzofthebumblebee A salad can be so tasty! Which one are you considering?

@Bikechic Sorry to hear that. I’m sure it’ll soon be gone! Remember weight loss isn’t linear and it’s generally a case of 3 steps forward and 1 step back🤞

WOW - Up a 1lb but after last weeks unexpected loss I’m not too disheartened.

Menu
Meal 1 - Scrambled eggs, Parmesan and truffle sprinkle. Minestrone soup.
Meal 2 - Chicken Shawarma and salad. 0% Fage and compote.

Morning!

Up a lb at 9st 9lb this morning from last week. However, I hit a low of 9st 5lb towards the end of last week and while I have eaten a lot at the weekend, it wasn't enough to gain 4lb! Think it's down to a fair bit of water retention due to salt intake and my menstrual cycle going a bit odd this week. Will see what happens when it's calmed down.

Made this yesterday with butternut squash subbed for the sweet potato. Also used a whole Scotch bonnet so it's very hot! Going to be eating it for a few days so will get used to the burn.

Karatema · 12/07/2023 12:05

I forgot so will weigh myself in the morning 🙁

Cleotheclimber · 12/07/2023 19:22

My first WOW and I am also up 1 lb @ 10st 0lbs! Not a great start 🤪 but exactly why I need to be here and accountable. I have upped my steps to 15k a day and drinking lots of water.

will keep going!!

TheRealHousewife · 12/07/2023 20:19

@LavenderfortheBees That recipe you shared is right up my street! Thank you for sharing. Sorry to hear about the small gain. I agree it’ll be water/salt/hormone related.

@Cleotheclimber Keep going, it’ll happen 👍

@Karatema I often forget to weigh on Wednesday, especially if I’ve been on the busy side. You could weigh tomorrow instead 😬

WeirdPookah · 12/07/2023 20:43

I have lost 2lb this past week.
Total down: 55lbs.

Now entering celebratory long weekend! So no idea how that will affect next week. Still feeling sad and tearful, sneaks up on you. Watching new Bluey and it was a Muffin episode, so that did it when I said "poor Muffin". I hope I can enjoy everything we have planned.

Today:
B: Black bean burrito
L: Haricot and peach curry
D: Palak aloo with naan
corn thins with some flora

NothingTraLaLa · 12/07/2023 22:43

I too am a lb up this week at 124.6, but I sort of expected it - I started doing the Zoe course at the end of last week so I have a glucose monitor on and I’ve been giving it a good test with chocolate brownies and the like. The brownies didn’t spike my blood sugar particularly badly, but banana bread did, for some reason. I’ve got another week of the monitor so I’m going to test out lots of different foods (not just cake!) to see what effect they have on my levels.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 13/07/2023 06:05

Hello all, I have made terrible food choices this week, a lot of binge eating on chocolate and biscuits. I felt awful afterwards. Determined to get back on track.
one positive is I have been a lot better at getting the exercise in lately. Trying to do at least 3 active things a week whether that is a class, riding, running, a long dog walk etc.
lunch - roast chicken salad
dinner - stir fry and rice

currently doing an elimination diet on medical advice so no grains or legumes for 4 weeks so my meals are going to be a lot of meat and rice probably

Weatherwax13 · 13/07/2023 06:23

@TheRealHousewife found the July thread. Thankyou as always🩷
Hello to the old regulars and newbies.
I'm still in France and it's been tumultuous to say the least - hence the long absence from the thread.
No idea what I weigh but the jeans waistband test suggests I've actually lost a couple of kg.
I think it's called the Stress Diet! Marriage hanging by a thread after a discovery a few weeks back so to say it wasn't the trip I'd planned is an understatement:(
DH going into therapy upon our return. We'll see.
Anyway I thought I must check in. Have been skimming through everyone's news and will get back on board properly when I'm home in two weeks

LavenderfortheBees · 13/07/2023 07:36

@TheRealHousewife just weighed again and 2lb down from yesterday. Really annoying when my cycle is messing around as my weight goes all over the place!

@Allthegoodnamestakken I ate terribly at the weekend and it's really unpleasant. I feel super bloated and gross yet the types of foods (crisps, homemade cookies and chocolate) just really make me want to keep reaching for more. I do so much better eating whole foods and lower sugar/higher GI foods.

So sorry to hear about the relationship troubles @Weatherwax13 . Relationship stress can make you feel sick to your stomach so not surprising you are struggling. Hope you can reach a better place once you are back.

TooEarly4Breakfast · 13/07/2023 08:24

I'm sticking to IF with alarms on my phone for kitchen window. This helps me not to think about food beyond planning the next day's menu. I have far fewer supermarket deliveries and the freezers are coming under control.

Clothes are looser, with a definite gap in jeans waistband. I've lost 6 lbs since end of June.

TheRealHousewife · 13/07/2023 08:25

Good Morning

You’re very welcome @Weatherwax13 I’m Pleased you found us! Sorry to read of your relationship difficulties, sounds very tough and stressful 😢💔Hope everything soon settles and that you regain your equilibrium. Sending a hug and a cuppa ☕️

@WeirdPookah Fabulous result! Is the 55lbs what you’ve lost in total? That is absolutely life changing and health enhancing! Congratulations 🥳

@NothingTraLaLa I very much wanted to partake in the Zoe study but I’m ruled out due to being celiac. I’d be very interested in how you get on and how different foods affect you. I know it’s an individual program and results aren’t transferable to other people due to different gut health/bugs and how our bodies process foods. But I’m still interested 😬 PS does it hurt when you attach the blood monitor to your arm? PPS I’m sure the weight will go again once you’re in the groove 👍

@Allthegoodnamestakken Are you eating enough protein and staying hydrated? Those 2 elements can make a huge difference and stop the cravings if adequate. Also depending where you are in your cycle, hormones are an appetite disrupter. Don’t be hard on yourself, we’ve all done it.

@LavenderfortheBees Thats a good result 👍Hormones affect so many aspects of our mind/body. Being out of whack is very unsettling. Are you accessing support for hormonal health? (Don’t feel you have to answer if it’s private)

Menu
Meal 1 - Minestrone soup. Scrambled egg. Walnuts.
Meal 2 - Prawn stir fry. Greek yoghurt and chopped nectarine.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Cross posted @TooEarly4Breakfast Definitely sounds like you’ve found what works for you! Well done on seeing off nearly half a stone 👍👏

TBH I don't really know what a normal cycle is like. I think I have PCOS and as a teen was very irregular. Went on the pill at 16 then the implant in my 20s and been on that ever since. Am in my 30s now and the first few implants stopped my periods altogether but now I do get them just irregular and usually very light.

Had a light period last week and thought it finished but Tues night had a heavy bleed overnight then nothing on Weds daytime! Fuckery but but they have never been normal so am meh about it. Not TTC and likely never will so never had any real motivation to look into it further.

Losing weight is the best treatment for PCOS anyway outside of metformin.

Ninjachicken · 13/07/2023 09:34

Hello all!
great to see you back @ginsparkles and @Weatherwax13
@Weatherwax13 so sorry to hear about your troubles when this was meant to be your time for yourself. I unfortunately think my relationship is in difficulty as well. It is so difficult.

so sorry about your cat @WeirdPookah but fantastic loss, well done!

i am going to weigh in tomorrow, going to be very good today and really hope I see below 60 kgs on the scale tomorrow. 🤞🤞🤞

buzzofthebumblebee · 13/07/2023 12:35

@Weatherwax13 Flowers Hope you can keep strong for next 2 weeks.
And sending thoughts your way too @Ninjachicken

My work meeting ran on, so no salad made for picnic last night. Ended up grabbing cheese & biscuits, and pimms to take. Not the best choice ; ) But compensated extra calories by going for a run this morning. 1st in a little while. Forgot how satisfying it is after exercising - and the solitude that comes with it ; )

DownUdderer · 14/07/2023 00:34

Sorry to read about relationship woes. What a stressful time.

Also congrats everyone who's doing well.

I'm just chugging along this week. It's the second week of school holidays here, but they're back to school on Tuesday. It's our winter half term. I just can't plan in the same way whilst the kids are around 24/7.

Anyway I weighed this morning and was relieved with a maintain because I had biscuits and other snacks yesterday.

Keep on keeping on :)

Ninjachicken · 14/07/2023 07:35

Thanks @buzzofthebumblebee and nice to see you !

So weigh on Friday: 58.8 kgs!!!!!!
feel so pleased with that I just need to carry on and keep doing what I am doing over the summer!
good luck to everyone weighing in today and I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
i have my dad visiting for a week from tomorrow so my food choices will be less healthy than normal!

ImALittlePea · 14/07/2023 07:59

Morning!

@TheRealHousewife it's taken a few days but I do feel back to myself now. Have managed to lighten the mental load a fair amount this week too which certainly helps.

So sorry to hear things aren't great @Weatherwax13 @Ninjachicken ❤️

I'm 1.5lb down this week! V happy with that. Need to start maintaining rather than losing, my sized-down clothes are starting to feel a touch in the loose side and I can't afford any more replacements so I need to stick now 😂

Sending warm thoughts to everyone.

ginsparkles · 14/07/2023 08:05

Morning!

Sending love to all those that need it. It's a grim wet day here. Hoping it brightens later so that DD and I can go and have a ride on our new shared horse!

Bad week food wise this week and time of the month so 2 lb on. But unlike before I'm not stressing, just heading back to plan and knowing it'll fall back off. I always gain at this time of the month, and then it falls away often taking an extra lb or 2 with it!

Todays plan is to be sensible during the day, because tonight i am out for a fancy meal.

TheRealHousewife · 14/07/2023 09:33

Good Morning

@LavenderfortheBees Sounds tough ❤️

@Ninjachicken Thats a lovely weigh-in surprise ! Well done.

@ImALittlePea Good to hear you’re achieving more balance. Life’s hard, even more so with little ones pulling continually on your time. You’re doing great, especially with you weight loss endeavours 👍

Disturbed sleep last night due to back pain/tingling so not feeling so great.

Menu
Meal 1 - Portabello Mushroom Pizza (big mushroom, pizza toppings) Salad.
Meal 2 - ?
Tea, black coffee and water.

Remembered at last!
CW: 76.5

Put on a little (4 grams) but I've eaten 2 tubs of ice cream this week! It's been a stressful few weeks!

TheRealHousewife · 14/07/2023 18:25

Here’s hoping you have a chilled out weekend @Karatema to even it all out 👍😬

DownUdderer · 15/07/2023 01:26

I weighed this morning and I'm staying the same. I'm ok with that. I'm glad not to have put on.

I'm looking forward to the kids going back to school on Tuesday. Just to get the routine back.
