⭐️LOSE IT! July. Summer Edition⭐️

Healthy eating in the summer can be tricky to navigate. Summer barbecues, holidays, get togethers with family & friends makes it tougher to stay on track. No one wants to miss out on all the goodies on offer or be seen not joining in. However with forward planning and by setting your intentions you can mitigate any serious undoing of your endeavours. For example having a lighter lunch if you know you’re going for a slap up meal. Eat lighter the following day and keep hydrated to compensate.

Yet another new month will provide the opportunity to embrace a re-set and refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9.5st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back mainly on track. Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes!

Morning all. 53.55kg this morning for WOW. Good luck to all those weighing today.

@DownUdderer clothes shopping is awful. Those mirrors should be banned.

AutisticLegoLover · 05/07/2023 07:44

After 2 weeks without it I'm back on porridge this morning and I've missed it.
I've got a day off today, of sorts, and am going to make butter beer fudge. Then once ds is home from school he can help make risotto with me. I don't know if we will like risotto but I'm wanting to get more veg into us. It has wine so I'm going to have a glass of it tonight for a change.

Hope everyone has a great day 🍾

LavenderfortheBees · 05/07/2023 08:07

Stayed the same at 9st 8lb this week which is as expected after a heavy weekend and normal good eating and exercising otherwise.

Sunday was a day hungover and travelling so the worst. I ate:
Travelogue breakfast of cornflakes, pain au chocolat and oat bar.
Lunch: poached egg and avocado on sourdough
Dinner: half a big lidl pizza and hallumi fries
Snacks: KFC drumstick, Mcflurry, maoams, 40g chocolate bar, a bag of cookie dough bites from M&S
Blush

Feels much better to be eating normally and I forget how sick and sluggish eating like crap males me feel.

Found a new breakfast recipe recommended by a friend. I don't do slimming world but like this for a breakfast. I did it without sweetener and the raspberries kept it sweet enough.

https://www.slimmingworld.co.uk/recipes/baked-oats

Dinner was chicken tikka masala. I use a Madhur Jaffrey recipe which calls for bucketloads of oil and cream. I just leave out almost all the oil and switch the cream for 0% yoghurt and its still delicious. Never actually made the full fat version so can't compare!

Bikechic · 05/07/2023 08:24

Pleased with WOW today. 10 st 12lb.Down 2 lb from the place I've been stuck for a while.
@AutisticLegoLover love a risotto, good way of using up some limp celery. This time of year - broad beans. Autumn - roast pumpkin or butternut. Wine is a problem though as we don't drink white wine. White wine sotck pots work well.

NothingTraLaLa · 05/07/2023 08:40

Morning! The scales this morning were a nice surprise for no apparent reason - I’m down at least a lb since last week, but can’t be bothered to go back through June’s thread to see precisely how much.

SW 128 lbs
CW 123.6 lbs
TW 119 lbs

Which means I’m about halfway there!

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 05/07/2023 08:58

So another little loss again today 130.4lbs - doing it a few ounces at a time but that's ok.
do you mind me asking what height and age you are @NothingTraLaLa as I'm not very tall and cannot see me ever getting to your target weight.
The Bonne Maman was delicious yesterday with lots of home grown fruit and some lovely greek yogurt - Filling too.
Onwards and inwards my chums!

NothingTraLaLa · 05/07/2023 09:17

Hi @Was126orbustandmaybebust , I am very short at just under 5’ so I tip into overweight at around 9 stone. My target weight is 8 stone 7 pounds, with a possible stretch target of 8 stone, depending on how I feel when I reach target, just to be smack bang in the middle of the “normal” BMI range, but as I’m late 40s and perimenopausal it might be a bit tricky!

Although you say you’re not very tall, I would hazard that you’re taller than I am - most people are!

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 05/07/2023 09:26

A little taller @NothingTraLaLa at 5'2" and I am mid-fifties.
Go for it I say - if I ever get under 126lbs then I will be trying for a bit less in little chunks.
Onwards and inwards for us all 🤞🏻

WeirdPookah · 05/07/2023 09:56

Yesterday was pretty good.
Feeling emotional due to hormones and anxiety over waiting to hear who my youngest is moving up to at school.

Was going to make palak aloo, but I don't want to smell of curry for sports day this afternoon, so taken some homemade curry sauce out the freezer for dinner as I need quick dinner to get everybody to the martial art classes!

B: Kidney bean burrito
L: Peach haricot curry and cabbage
D: Mango almond chickpea korma, cucumber
iced protein coffee.

Not walking today, got horrible cramps and also my achilleas tendon and hip are sore, I think the work out I did was harder than I thought!

Tessisme · 05/07/2023 12:37

No change for me this week. Still 11st 3lb. Always happy to have no gain and feel fairly optimistic that I'll have a loss next week if I stick to the 16:8. The schools are off here for summer (NI) and I always find it harder to stick to anything when the DC are about!

I really fancy the look of those baked oats @LavenderfortheBees. Thanks for the link - I'll give them a go. Although I'm doing intermittent fasting where my eating window starts well after the normal breakfast time, I still eat breakfast type food as my first meal as I love oats, granola, yoghurt, fruit etc and miss them if I just cut them out.

Well done on your losses @Bikechic and@NothingTraLaLa⭐️⭐️

Tessisme · 05/07/2023 12:38

Oops, tag didn't work @NothingTraLaLa!

Karatema · 05/07/2023 14:39

Short and sweet:
CW: 76.10

I'm not unhappy with this.

Karatema · 05/07/2023 14:40

Should have added:

In the current circumstances!

Ninjachicken · 06/07/2023 08:23

Morning all, I am maintaining at just over 60 kgs. I am going to have a super healthy weekend to try and get under the 60 kgs mark before the summer starts properly. My son has already finished and my daughter breaks up tomorrow. Then no routine until September really which will make a diet regime more difficult but I will try and maintain over the summer.
going back to fast 800 principles for the next few days so will be having a smoothie or eggs for lunch and then meat or fish with salad in the evenings
those oats look great, thanks @LavenderfortheBees
i like all the breakfast things too @Tessisme so often have breakfast type meals at lunch when I do IF
did you like the risotto? @AutisticLegoLover and how did the butter beer fudge come out?
@WeirdPookah your food sounds amazing, I would love some of those recipes!
i am short too @Was126orbustandmaybebust and @NothingTraLaLa i agree anything over around where I am now and I would be in the overweight catergory and I am at 9 stone 3 at the moment. Really want to get to around 8 and a half stone . Happy to take it slow but would like to be there by the end of the year for sure
have a good day everyone

WeirdPookah · 06/07/2023 11:10

Well according to the scales I'm 0.2 of a pound down, but not really recording that, I only followed my plans 4/7 days last week, so didn't expect a result, but no gain is great, as the days I didn't follow my plan were pretty heavy.

Onwards, wading through wedding anniversary, delayed fathers day celebrations, my husbands birthday...!!

I am hurting a lot though, I can easily walk for several hours, but have spent yesterday and today, standing on school field for over an hour a time watching 2 sports days, and my hips, knees and back are complaining. Walking is different from standing!

Also feeling pretty burnt out from just everything going on. It's been a lot lately and feeling really stretched thin (except not literally lol).

Today:
B: kidney bean burrito
L: Poha
D: Roast vegetables with feta

@Ninjachicken thank you, I do love cooking for the most part, I used to try a new recipe every week, but when Lockdown happened and couldn't shop properly, it wasn't possible, then I haven't got my drive to do this back yet.

AutisticLegoLover · 06/07/2023 11:19

Congratulations on all the losses and the staying the sames. I love reading other people's meals-mine are so boring but I did make risotto with ds yesterday and it was lovely. There are leftovers but I'm not sure how well it will reheat.

I'm making bread right now and haven't got round to the fudge yet but hopefully will today while the bread rises.

I'm hovering between 53.2 and 54.5 no matter what I eat which is baffling. I'm keeping a close eye incase weight quickly goes on when I'm not looking. Sneaky bastard is lard.

Have a great day everyone 🍾

AutisticLegoLover · 06/07/2023 12:50

The first layer of the fudge is made and tastes delicious from what I've tasted off the spoon. It took some Storting and whisking so good exercise 😁 good Lord it's sweet though.

TheRealHousewife · 06/07/2023 14:01

Good Morning or rather Afternoon … today has flown!

WOW (belated) 9st 4lbs. Loss of 3lbs since last week. I moved the scales about a bit, same result each time. Unexpected yet welcomed.

Welcome to the thread @crazeekat

@Allthegoodnamestakken It must have been tough uprooting each time. Hope you enjoy being stable for a change. 👍

@MercuryRising I really believe MFP helps me stay on track. I log everything and occasionally follow their fitness plans too … the short ones 😬

@LavenderfortheBees Great recipe you shared thank you! I posted a blueberry oat one a couple of months back. Utterly lovely! Too lovely tbh. I inadvertently turned it into dessert as I poured fresh cream over it 😬.

@NothingTraLaLa Im similar in height to yourself. I understand how frustratingly difficult it is to lose when we are on the petite side. My ultimate goal is also to get to 8st 7lbs.

@WeirdPookah I hope you soon feel somewhat better! Sounds tough for you at the moment ❤️

Some great results are being posted. Well done 👏 An extra Well Done to those ladies who are carrying on even when it gets tough and the scales don’t play nicely. The number on the scales isn’t always reflective of your efforts. The important thing is to keep going no matter what ❤️

Menu
Meal 1 - Scrambled Eggs on GF bread, sprinkled with feta and fresh basil.
Meal 2 - Home made vegetable soup. 0%Fage and fresh fruit compote.
Tea, black coffee and water.

YUKA - Food and Cosmetic Scanner.
Ive recently downloaded a new app called Yuka. The app icon is a carrot. You scan the barcodes on packaged foods/toiletries and it scores them from Excellent, Good, Poor and Bad. It identifies any nasties in them or too high in saturated fats/salts/additives etc. I like it and have been scanning everything in my larder with a barcode 😅 I was very surprised about my tahini score - Bad. I was equally surprised about my Zenb Yellow Split Pea Fusilli which is 90/100 Excellent. It also has Basmati rice 90/100 Excellent which I’m surprised about. It doesn’t seem to identify how many carbs are in food stuff which I find strange shrug 🤷‍♀️ Nonetheless I like the app.

The app is free for simple scanning but there is a paid version for a better user experience.

My mini victory today was baking cookies for work and only eating one of them even though they were bloody lovely!

B - overnight oats made with yoghurt, chia seeds and frozen raspberries
L - protein bar
D - undecided but probably some form of protein with either salad or green veg and a light dressing/seasoning.

Snacks - cookie and yellow sticker strawberries!

TheRealHousewife · 06/07/2023 17:12

@LavenderfortheBees Fantastic restraint! Definitely a victory !

Well done @TheRealHousewife that's a great loss!

The butterbeer fudge has turned out great but very sickly. I've also made cookies, coconut pyramids and a loaf of bread. I had Jack Daniels bbq tofu, carrots, red and yellow peppers and mushrooms with noodles for dinner. It made a nice change. I've drink loads of water today. I forgot breakfast and lunch due to baking. I usually do when I'm busy baking and time gets away from me.

ImALittlePea · 07/07/2023 10:15

Morning all. Sorry for radio silence from me, it's been another one of those weeks - kids have been super challenging (mostly blaming end-of-year-itis 😬), I've got a wisdom tooth infection, and a few plans have fallen through or been mucked up by things out of our control.. so my mood has been low and emotions a bit everywhere. Thankfully I've got more of a spring in my step this morning, the sun is out again and things feel on the up (apart from having to start our next holiday plans again from scratch, that's still bumming me right out 😏)

I've skimmed over the thread at intervals but not properly absorbed anything. I'll try and read back over everything later but if I don't get a chance, high fives and hugs to everyone who wants or needs them!

I stayed the same this week - all things considered I'm chuffed with that.. and I guess I should be in maintenance mode now anyway 😂 got a weekend off the wine because of my antibiotics so I might shave a little off next week, it'd be nice to build up some wiggle room before summer but I'm also quite happy bobbing along as I am right now.

No meal plan today as I'm away with DS after school so all bets are off 😂

Happy Friday all 🌞 remember your 🍾

WeirdPookah · 07/07/2023 10:59

Had a (short) hot bath with epsom salts last night which helped me feel less achey. Cleaned this morning.

B: Canned pineapple and Greek 5% yogurt
L: Salad with tahini dressed green lentils
D: Southwest bean salad, chicken and avocado

@AutisticLegoLover that is a delicious pile of baking!! I have been making loads of the breakfast muffins my children have as the hot weather keeps over-ripening the bananas. It's a good job they freeze well.

ginsparkles · 07/07/2023 15:19

A very small wave and check in from me. I needed some time away to gather my thoughts and find a way that actually works for me, my life and my families dietary needs. And I think I have sorted it! Over the past month of my absence I have gone from 12st 5 to 11st 12.

I took myself back to old principles and am basically fasting 16:8 each day. Weekends I give myself a bit more flexibility. Exercise has drastically increased with walking alongside my daughter as she pony rides at least 2 times a week plus walking the dog. And been on the HRT for a month now, mood much improved, sleeping better (mostly) and the nights sweats have gone.

Very happy to have things moving in the right direction at last. And feeling less of a fraud posting to you all.

DownUdderer · 08/07/2023 01:36

I'm so close to being normal weight instead of overweight. I can't wait to lose another pound and reach that milestone!

I tried on almost all of my wardrobe yesterday afternoon. I just wanted to get an idea of what fits me. I had been trapped with not very many clothing options for a few months. So I'm glad I now have quite a few things that fit me now.

I've been busy this week with the kids off school and it's harder to plan food and eating because I prefer to be flexible and go with the flow. I try and make good choices in the moment.
