⭐️LOSE IT! July. Summer Edition⭐️

Healthy eating in the summer can be tricky to navigate. Summer barbecues, holidays, get togethers with family & friends makes it tougher to stay on track. No one wants to miss out on all the goodies on offer or be seen not joining in. However with forward planning and by setting your intentions you can mitigate any serious undoing of your endeavours. For example having a lighter lunch if you know you’re going for a slap up meal. Eat lighter the following day and keep hydrated to compensate.

Yet another new month will provide the opportunity to embrace a re-set and refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9.5st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back mainly on track. Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes!

Oh @ginsparkles lovely to have you back and with such positive vibes! Well done ❤️

That's amazing @DownUdderer I also had a mass wardrobe try on recently. It's revelatory isn't it! Fingers crossed that 1lb buggers off nice and quickly for you 🤞

ginsparkles · 08/07/2023 06:47

Thank you @ImALittlePea ! It's nice to be back Smile

SmackMeOnTheBottomWithTheWomensWeekly · 09/07/2023 08:11

Morning all,
It's a bit grey and miserable here today and I'm feeling a bit low. I could use some advice and motivation if anyone could offer a kind word? My scales haven't moved in two weeks...I'm still 9st 11lbs. My measurements haven't really changed much either, very minimally maybe.

I'm sticking to around 1100 average calories a day, but think I'm going to need to drop to 1000. I'm 5ft 3 and normally don't lose unless I'm under 1200 but I'm not losing at all at the moment. I think the other thing I've identified is I'm not drinking anywhere near enough water so I think I'm possibly retaining? I think that's how it works? I'm also having some loo issues and not going more than once a week which is making me tired and sluggish and feeling...well...full of crap 😂

I started C25K this week and have just completed my first three runs after staying away from exercise for the last month or so. Normally I prefer to lift weights but with the reduction in calories I know personally I'm better not lifting and instead upping my cardio. Once I've hit a more comfortable weight, I'll increase calories to maintenance and start lifting again.

I don't know what else I can do to get things moving again. Any ideas? Thanks in advance 😊

ImALittlePea · 09/07/2023 08:44

Morning @SmackMeOnTheBottomWithTheWomensWeekly there's probably others with much better advice but I wanted to message quickly to send some reassurance and solidarity that plateaus like these are super normal, as frustrating as they are. Sometimes it doesn't make any sense. Also from what you've said I would definitely try and up up up the water in the coming days! Hopefully that will help your gut and your numbers too.

SmackMeOnTheBottomWithTheWomensWeekly · 09/07/2023 08:49

Oh many many thanks @ImALittlePea - much appreciated. It has been TOTM too this week, maybe I'll see a whoosh next week when my hormones have settled. It's just frustrating, I'm trying so hard and just feel like I'm getting nowhere and I've hit my body's "ideal weight", which, alas, does not correspond with my own! Thanks again 😊

ImALittlePea · 09/07/2023 09:03

I'm afraid I've not had a chance to read the thread back through but I hope everyone is ok. Night away with DS was amazing, food choices were so-so but we did a LOT of steps and lugging around of bags, plus I'm on strong dental antibiotics which you can't have alcohol with, so I'm having a rare weekend without any wine - nice calorie saving there 😂

The annoying thing with my antibiotics is I have to take them with food which means eating before lunch, but that's only for five days. Going to have toast and a banana this morning as I've got work from 10, that should see me through until I can stop for a snack during my shift. Not sure what dinner will be yet as not sure what time in finishing.

It has been so humid where I am lately, there was thunder and lightning but I don't think the storm actually broke (I was so tired I conked out early), I'm hoping for a nice little storm today to clear the air. Anyone else?!

ImALittlePea · 09/07/2023 09:06

We can all very much relate to that @SmackMeOnTheBottomWithTheWomensWeekly I danced around the same few lbs for weeks on end a while ago. Hormones don't help either do they. Focus on water, maybe log on MFP or similar if you don't already do that to help refocus? You've got this ❤️

Cleotheclimber · 09/07/2023 09:14

Hi All

is it too late to join? I need somewhere to be accountable. Overall I have lost just over 2 stone since having my children (3 years ago!) and my weight has been very stable for the last year. I’m currently 9 st 13 lbs and I really want to shift that last 13 lbs!

I am doing intermittent fasting, trying to workout whenever possible - I usually do YouTube such as Heather Robertson/Caroline Girvan etc. and I am also on Week 6 of C25K although I don’t do it 3x a week like it’s supposed to be done - it’s more like 1 x a week…! i don’t calorie count anymore but wondering if should start with MFP again.

today I am trying to avoid the chocolate cake that husband made yesterday…. 🤤

DownUdderer · 09/07/2023 10:14

Welcome @Cleotheclimber everyone is friendly here :)

@SmackMeOnTheBottomWithTheWomensWeekly drink so much water that it gets on your nerves! It really really helps. Getting stuck on a plateau can be really soul destroying. I've definitely been there and been on here moaning about it as well!! Sometimes I change up what I'm eating and I find eggs really filling and versatile.

We had a busy day and I was grateful to find sushi for lunch. Much better than McDonald's :)

My gym leggings that I wore today, looked too big. Gosh, they used to be a bit tight!

WeirdPookah · 09/07/2023 12:20

I'm feeling so sad. My 21 year old cat died yesterday.
She was peaceful and died in her sleep, I suppose you can't ask for more.

Trying not to eat my feelings and make myself feel worse by adding regret and sickly feelings.
Yesterday:
B: egg, miso mushrooms, english muffin
L: rice free poke bowl
D: homemade blue masa soft taco's with quorn, refried beans, pica de gallo, dip

Today:
B: Homemade waffles, cashew butter, sour cherries, greek 5% yogurt
L: Mixed vegetables, kimchi, 1 egg omelette, melon
D: Lentil bolognaise, broccoli

AutisticLegoLover · 09/07/2023 12:48

@WeirdPookah I'm so sorry to hear about your beloved cat. Cats are the absolute best. Mine died at age 19 and it was utterly heartbreaking. Pets are such a part of our families. Be kind to yourself x

WeirdPookah · 09/07/2023 19:34

@AutisticLegoLover (by the way that describes me too!) thank you. My cats are so important, when I was pregnant with my second child, my 22 year old cat died, I was heartbroken she didn't get to meet my baby when she had loved my first so much. She was a cat in a million, she would play dress up with my daughter! Muffin, who just died, knew when you were ill and would come and sit on you, refusing to move, then later your illness would show to you and Muffin was always right! Thank you for your sympathy.

TheRealHousewife · 10/07/2023 10:00

Good Morning

Thank you @AutisticLegoLover

@WeirdPookah Epsom salt baths are very therapeutic 👍 I love them! Also magnesium salt baths are good too, especially if not sleeping well. So sorry to read about your beloved cat 💔 Pets are very much part of the family and their loss is a real bereavement. 😢

A very warm welcome back @ginsparkles lovely to see you ❤️

@DownUdderer Thats great news! You’ll soon reach that milestone. Trying clothes on and finding them more loose is a great motivator 👍

@SmackMeOnTheBottomWithTheWomensWeekly I totally understand your frustration! It’s tough, especially when not very tall. I barely reach the 5ft mark and that coupled with disability makes it’s difficult to lose even when low on calories. I try to eat nutritious food, good fats and plenty of water. Try to keep going ❤️

Welcome to the thread @Cleotheclimber Its never too late to join 😬 Congratulations on your loss to date! Impressive!

Menu
Meal 1 - 2 boiled eggs and cottage cheese. Minestrone soup.
Meal 2 - Salmon stir fry. Raspberry/blueberry compote and 0% Fage.
Tea, black coffee and water.

sneaking back in, and see that the lovely @ginsparkles is back too - with an AMAZING loss in the process. Well done!

My eating habits have regressed, so I need to get back in zone, cut out the snacking & sugar (& wine), and get out running. Easier said than done with life in the way. Eating emotions atm. But it's not going to happen on its own, without effort. So here I am.

So far today:
B = berries & spoon of kefir greek yoghurt
L = mini oatcakes x 8, cream cheese, & cherry tomatoes
D - roast chicken, cabbage, carrots, broccoli, and 1 small roast potato
E = gym 1st thing

Well done to all on great maintaining & losses.

buzzofthebumblebee · 10/07/2023 13:56

So sorry for the loss of your kitty @WeirdPookah

TheRealHousewife · 10/07/2023 14:49

Thanks for the warm welcome back! Lovely to see everyone!

Sorry to hear about your cat @WeirdPookah ... sending much love.

This weekend I haven't stuck to things at all well, but that's ok. We all need off time every now and then. Will be back at it tomorrow. Smile

SmackMeOnTheBottomWithTheWomensWeekly · 10/07/2023 20:25

Thank you so much @ImALittlePea @TheRealHousewife and @DownUdderer for your lovely kind support, hugely appreciated.

Ladies, it has happened. I have been to the toilet.

I lost 2lb in the process. I am back on track... 🙈😂

Sending you gentle hugs @WeirdPookah - so so hard when a much loved moggy goes. Please be kind to yourself 💐

DownUdderer · 11/07/2023 01:16

I took the kids out yesterday, I didn't plan ahead and we were out over lunch time. I snacked on nuts and a mini Mars bar. I didn't have much with me. Anyway I'm just going with the flow! When we got home I had scrambled eggs, quick easy and filling. Yum.

TheRealHousewife · 11/07/2023 07:14

Good Morning

You’re very welcome @SmackMeOnTheBottomWithTheWomensWeekly and welcome on the loo whoosh 😬👍

@DownUdderer sounds sensible under the circumstances. Hope you enjoyed your day out 👌

Menu
Meal 1 - Scrambled eggs and small grating of Parmesan. Truffle sprinkle dust. 0% Fage and berry compote.
Meal 2 - Chicken tray bake with carrots, red peppers, red onion, courgettes and sweet potato.

Tea, black coffee and water.

Oh @WeirdPookah I'm so sorry.

Well done on the movement @SmackMeOnTheBottomWithTheWomensWeekly 😁 water is so often the key!

I'm exceedingly tired at the moment. Not sure if it's the heat, but I feel like my bones are 10x heavier this morning. Hoping some caffeine will wake me up, if not I'll have to forgo the long to do list at nap time and have a snooze myself! Which I don't like to do, but sometimes needs must 🤦‍♀️

We still haven't meal planned for the week yet but I've got nothing in so got to get onto that and do the food shop somehow today.

TheRealHousewife · 11/07/2023 08:55

Hi @ImALittlePea I think you should go for the nap! Chores can wait, your well-being is more important ❤️

OP posts:
ImALittlePea · 11/07/2023 09:42

I think I'm going to have to @TheRealHousewife it's crippling me so far today! Annoying as I've got some gardening I was going to do while DD naps but that will just have to wait, as you say.

WeirdPookah · 11/07/2023 12:16

@ImALittlePea @SmackMeOnTheBottomWithTheWomensWeekly @ginsparkles @buzzofthebumblebee @TheRealHousewife thank you all for your kind words. It is appreciated.

Struggling a bit with knowing I am planning days off plan for our wedding anniversary, I have a terrible "all or nothing" attitude and feel like giving in to anything all week knowing I have special days to look forward too.

Also not feeling happy of course.

Yesterday:
B: kidney bean burrito
L: boiled eggs and salad (horrible salad bag and weird tomatoes, didn't help my resolve yesterday at all)
D: peri-peri not chicken in sandwich thin, quorn savoury eggs, salad
Had ends of bread with real butter and cherries off plan

Today:
B: Kidney bean burrito
L: vegetarian chili, cabbage
D: peanut miso tofu with broccoli
couple of corn thins.

buzzofthebumblebee · 12/07/2023 08:15

Oops. forgot to WOW this morning. Not a good start ?! Being much more mindful of what not to eat though.
Am at a bring and share picnic this eve. Might actually take a salad ?!
