“I started Ozempic last night” THREAD TWO

1000 replies

Here’s a shiny new thread for everyone who’s been sharing their experiences on the original, and of course all new starters are welcome too!

Here are my tips/learnings from 18 weeks

for nausea eat little and often
for constipation up your fibre (I started taking psyllium husk twice a day) and drink lots of water
on the days you inject make sure you eat lightly as for some people it has a very quick impact

pens only need to be refrigerated before the first dose. After that they need to be kept below 25C

if you want to travel with pen and needles in your hand luggage, MyJuniper will provide you with a medical letter for travel and I’m sure other providers will too

many of us have a refer a friend code for My Juniper for £50 off your first order (and we get a £50 referral gift) - ask on the thread and someone will be able to offer you theirs.

feel free to add your wisdom for people who are earlier in their journey

any referral codes?

Katrinawaves · 18/01/2023 20:04

Another tip for constipation - I’ve started having 3 or 4 prunes every day as a snack which has helped enormously.

StuckInTheUpsideDown · 18/01/2023 20:24

If you’re thinking about starting Ozempic privately:

  • research it carefully, make sure you are clear on the risks and potential side effects
  • appreciate this is a medium to long term commitment and takes two months before at therapeutic doses - some people do not get benefits until at 1mg then. This will get expensive.
  • ensure you’re buying from a clearly identified pharmacy you can contact for any problems
  • understand this is not a silver bullet. Whilst many people find it helpful in reducing appetite and reducing food chatter in their heads, you can’t just expect to stuff yourself with rubbish and still lose weight.
  • appreciate it doesn’t work for everyone and some people find the side effects too much.
HermioneWeasley · 18/01/2023 20:27

Ok, @StuckInTheUpsideDown ’s tips are waaaay better than mine!

Placeholding.

I’ve just finished week 1. Current weight is 11 stone 8. Felt no negative side effects. It definitely reduced my appetite. I’m also trying to reduce my Citalopram dose as I think that’s part of the reason for my huge appetite.

First weigh day and injection 2 tomorrow. Feeling positive and hopeful 🤞🏻☺️

thankyou!! it's been so helpful

Mollybeth · 18/01/2023 21:15

Just placemarking. First day has been pleasant as such, my appetite hasn’t been reduced but I’m guessing that may take a day or two to kick in?

Mollybeth · 18/01/2023 21:16

I’m quite an impatient person so the temptation to just start at 0.5 is so easy but I’ve refused too! I am just off saxenda though so perhaps I could manage the double dose!

justasmalltownmum · 18/01/2023 21:19

Has anyone successfully weaned themselves off and kept the weight off?

03X · 18/01/2023 21:23

Where can you buy this? I tried the daily injections but failed. Once a week doesn’t sound too bad. At this stage having booked a consultation for a gastric sleeve I’m willing to try anything as a last resort!

Beansontoast45 · 18/01/2023 21:25

I’m thinking about trying this, do you guys recommend? What is the rough cost for maybe 3 months supply?

Karmakamelion · 18/01/2023 21:29

I'm so disappointed with myself. I took my first dose yesterday. Went shoppingafter work and was starving and hungry when I got home and did binge. Possibly less than before but was so hoping that the control food has on me would go away finally. I'm near tears

Mollybeth · 18/01/2023 21:33

@Beansontoast45 I got my supply with Numan and for three months it’s going to be 418 pound.

HermioneWeasley · 18/01/2023 21:37

@03X quite a few of us are getting it through MyJuniper, but if you choose to go with them then there’s a code as per my post above so don’t pay full price! I’d definitely try this before surgery.

@Mollybeth i think a few people from the previous thread who’d been on saxenda felt able to tolerate higher doses quicker - one to discuss with your prescriber.

@Karmakamelion please don’t beat yourself up - it’s day one! Just keep going and be gentle with yourself.

OP posts:
Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 18/01/2023 21:41

Placemarking. I started yesterday. No noticeable difference yet but I'm watching with interest.
When, roughly, did people start seeing any side effects or appetite reduction?

Twwodoorsaway · 18/01/2023 21:49

Thanks @HermioneWeasley for the new thread. Nice to see some new joiners too. I’ve had absolutely no nausea and so far no bowel issues either but only one week in. I think for me the significant thing is that previously if dieting, if I want to lose weight I know I have to go to bed hungry and wake up hungry. This hasn’t happened with Ozempic, and I’m 2kg down. I was definitely hungrier yesterday but having had my injection this morning I feel more back to the previous days this evening. My son is aLao doing this, he has stalled on the weight loss front this week but is just up to 0.5mg so hopefully that will restart it. I’m definitely being more mindful of what I eat too.

Don”t beat yourself up @Karmakamelion tomorrow is another day.
