“I started Ozempic last night” THREAD TWO

Here’s a shiny new thread for everyone who’s been sharing their experiences on the original, and of course all new starters are welcome too!

OP posts:

Thanks for the new thread @HermioneWeasley. Following along and rooting for you all. Somewhat of a long term user, been using Ozempic since Feb last year and lost over 3 stone to date and reached my healthy target weight. Was on 0.5mg for most of the time until December last year and I then put on 6lbs over Xmas. I have recently upped my dose to 0.75mg, took the second dose on Sunday and so far tolerating it well, appetite has disappeared completely. Lost 3lbs already, hoping to lose the rest by next week then plan to drop down to a slightly lower dose (maybe 0.60?) to maintain.

Good luck everyone!

Is this plan advised by your supplier or is it what you think will work yourself?

I've been taking Ozempic for two months now. I'd 4 doses of 0.25mg and I've just taken my sixth dose of 0.5mg because I found the side effects troublesome last week I decided to get another 0.5mg pen. I've lost 12lbs in total, I'm not a fast loser generally so I'm happy with this weight loss and if it gets faster as I go up to the higher dose that's ok too but I'm not willing to spend half my week feeling ill for weightloss.

Thank you! It truly is and I'm also really pleased to have reduced my risk of Type 2 diabetes and hypertension according to my doctor. 😊

Is one I'm hoping works for me as I want to stay on as low a dose as possible for as long as possible to minimise side effects and also costs! I'm meant to 2mg maintenance dose by now if I'd followed the recommended schedule but as I was ok on 0.5mg until relatively recently, I was confident that 0.75mg would be enough to get me out of the rut and it looks like I was right.

I'm so disappointed with myself. I took my first dose yesterday. Went shoppingafter work and was starving and hungry when I got home and did binge. Possibly less than before but was so hoping that the control food has on me would go away finally. I'm near tears

Be patient! You can't expect overnight miracles. It will barely have had a chance to work on your system on day 1. Remember 0.25 is a titration dose and isn't very effective for most people. You have to build up.

MaireadMcSweeney · 19/01/2023 10:12

Weight today is showing 3lbs loss so far in 2.5 weeks. I'm happy with that. Not expecting huge weight loss as I'm still eating 3 square meals a day but not snacking and choosing smaller portions which ozempic is making easy.
I'm still feeling hungry though, not as much as before and the urge to binge isn't there at all (that might be more psychological though, I have always been able to get a hold on it temporarily when I'm a good head space and hoping that it will reduce as my dose increases.

Oigetoffmylawn · 19/01/2023 10:24

Another 1.5lbs off this morning. Still got horrific indigestion. Has anyone found anything that helps? Gaviscon isn't touching it.

orangelous · 19/01/2023 10:28

in the last thread someone said that the remarkable thing was not thinking about food all the time . Endlessly thinking about what you did or didn't eat or what you were going to eat.
I completely agree with this because even though my weight loss is really slow it seems possible that i might be able to keep up the better choices more easily. And if i'm honest i was in real danger of just increasing my weight all the time.
good luck to everyone and it's so lovely to see the stories on here. And yes it is expensive but not as expensive as having the terrible long term effects of type two diabetes

BellyDancer124 · 19/01/2023 10:34

End of week one for me and 4lb down and 8cm loss on my waist (I was very bloated last week post xmas). I'm so happy and honestly not having the constant voice in my head telling me I'm hungry is worth every penny. My meals are half the size they once were. I'm no longer embarrassed about how much I'm eating which at mealtimes sometimes matched my 6ft4 husband 🤔

Thank you to everyone on the post for the support so far 😀fingers crossed for another loss this week.

Placemarking. I started yesterday. No noticeable difference yet but I'm watching with interest.
When, roughly, did people start seeing any side effects or appetite reduction?

Day 3

Oigetoffmylawn · 19/01/2023 11:10

OzzyOzworn · 19/01/2023 10:50

Day 3

Same. Was the same with my 2nd dose.

I'm now in the next stone bracket, which is good!

IAmBreathingIn · 19/01/2023 12:11

Thanks for the new thread (and indeed for starting this chat) @HermioneWeasley

Congratulations to everyone on your losses this week!

I'm only just starting my second week, but to the new starters I reiterate the others' advice of be patient, and don't be too hard on yourself. I did experience appetite suppression and a feeling of fullness for quite a few days before it started wearing off again. I'm sure as the weeks pass and I keep dosing these effects will last longer. I'm genuinely surprised, and delighted that this drug is capable of achieving this!

I'm not going to weigh every week as I pay to use the machine in Boots, but I'll update when I do. Regardless of that, I am already starting to feel better and have lost several cm from my waist (probably mostly Christmas bloat!) so overall not a bad state of affairs for the end of week one. Second injection today.

@Intemperatefatty thank you so much for sharing your perspective as a long-term user. It's immensely helpful! Many congratulations on your outstanding weight loss to date!!

OneAndDon3 · 19/01/2023 12:55

I'm finding things are settling down in week three. The complete lack of interest in food hasb settled down a bit, which makes it easier to cook and plan healthy meals. But it's still so much less all consuming. I'm in the office today and just wondering if it's worth even walking to the shop for a sandwich.

lking679 · 19/01/2023 13:31

Can’t currently start it as breastfeeding but interested to try it when I’m stopped. I have PCOS and so tired of being overweight and craving and thinking about food. I got a stomach bug mid December and was actually relieved not to be hungry or craving food…. I did wonder if this is how normal ppl feel, no wonder they can stay thin!
Only thing is I’m not hungry when I overeat I just want to eat (I’m not full though)… does it help with that?

What happens when you get to your target weight do you keep injecting at a maintenance dose?
In the meantime have read ‘never binge again’ and hoping to try and get some sort of control on my overeating! It has helped but I haven’t tried restricting my everyday eating yet to lose weight.

Athena51 · 19/01/2023 14:17

Thanks for the new thread @HermioneWeasley when I first started taking Ozempic there wasn't many people who were aware of it so it's nice to have a community of support now to share our successes and concerns.

Peridot1 · 19/01/2023 16:14

Hope it’s ok to join.

I’ve been on Ozempic since last February. Have lost almost 3 stone. Started at 16 st 3 and last weigh in last week I was 13st 4. Am very happy with that obviously! It’s been a bit slow as I’ve had a few breaks. I’m currently on 1mg but thinking of increasing the dose as I’m definitely eating more and thinking about food more.

Food wise I am trying to limit carbs but not cut them out completely. I’ll tend to not have carbs during the day but have some with dinner. My carbs during the day are currently two biscuits after my lunch! Not ideal but it’s keeping me going.

I am also still drinking wine. I know some people just can’t stomach it on Ozempic but sadly I can!

MaireadMcSweeney · 19/01/2023 16:19

I have needles!! I feel like a dealer of some kind 😆 I've got 100 of the ones that go in the pen (32mg, 4mm) and am going to post some to one poster. If you want me to post you some and are happy to PayPal me a couple of £ for postage please send me a DM.

Hi All. Hope it’s ok to pop in here. And apologies for it being long and rambling.
I’ve been on 0.5mg for 6 weeks now and have lost zero weight (like not even an pound) and really don’t feel any of the appetite suppression I should. I moved onto Ozempic from Saxenda (got up to full dose) but just hated the daily injecting and it made me feel tired and sick all the time. Ozempic doesn’t have these horrid side effects but also seems to be doing nothing for me.
The main issue I have is with Juniper. When I started they said should the meds have no effect at 0.5 (a concern of mine as I came from full dose Saxenda) they would increase the dose at 2 months. The absolutely unhelpful clinician I am trying to speak to is doing absolutely everything she can to renege on this and wants to keep the dose at 0.5. I suspect this is because they don’t have the higher dose pens or are low on stock. Any advice? I’m loathe to keep spending £200 a month on something that has no effect whilst battling with deliberately obtuse ‘clinicians’.
Does anybody recommend any of the other providers above Juniper? Or have any advice if the lower dose isn’t working?
I average about 1500 calories a day and do moderate exercise and have done for over a half a year. The clinician simply advised me to try an additional 100 calories a day rather than address the fact the meds are having no effect.
I have about 4-5 stone to lose so lots of excess fat hanging around waiting to go…
